Second time coming to Don Cuco in Moorpark and it was so good again. I got the chicken fajitas and my husband got the pastor burrito, both were really good and both came with rice and beans so the portions were big. Their chips and salsa are also super fresh and delicious. Service was great, prices are good, and we love that they have a back patio with heaters. It's stroller/baby friendly too which is a huge plus for us. Big free parking lot in the plaza also. Overall such a good family restaurant and we'll definitely keep coming back. read more

Our last visit to Don Cuco didn't go so well. We had a reservation for a party of 9 after a theater performance. It was a chilly day, and getting colder as the sun set. The restaurant has a patio area with tented sides, which is where they seat large groups. The concept is a good one, but when the overhead heaters don't work and it's cold outside, that's not ideal. Service was slow, and our waiter made repeated mistakes. My husband asked for a taste of a particular draft beer, and was presented with a full schooner instead. He likes to squeeze in lemon and had to ask multiple times for that side request. Then our young granddaughter ordered the kids' burrito, but the brought the adult version and charged for it. I didn't pay the bill so I didn't realize it right away. Not until it was too late, actually. Dear Hubby and I ordered the shrimp fajitas to share, which had an underwhelming number of shrimp. Whole lot of grilled onions, though. The taste was just so-so. The best item I had was the virgin mango margarita. Otherwise, it was an overpriced meal in chilly surroundings. Believe it or not, first time at Don Cuco's! You know - I was quite impressed! If you have ever been to Yolanda's this is BETTER than it! We were in the area and craving some chips & salsa, so said let's try it. So glad we did! The drinks were amazing and the enchiladas, Chile relleno was chefs kiss. Beautiful inside with the art work. I've always thought that all Don Cuco's Mexican Restaurant is owned by the same family and found out today that it's NOT true. So, it's important to taste the difference between Simi and Moorpark, in essence. The ambiance are similar although I like the spirit chambers more of the Moorpark Don Cuco's; they seem to have better selections and nicer landscape. We had the Carne Asada and Wet Beef Burrito, we feel that their presentations are exactly similar and the way they cook their meats are about the same. The waiters and staff are also similar; both were respectful, polite and very welcoming. I'd say, these variables and manners are cultural and traditions, these two restaurants are just good, no differences in the way they serve their food and services. One distinct observation is their proper at the Moorpark Don Cuco's , grilled and sweet instead of spicy or hot, I ate every part of this pepper except the head, it was so tasty. So I asked for the waiter to explain the type, the way it was cooked and where it came from . Here, he explained all the answers to my questions without hesitation and evasion, thank you. Pricing was about average, parking is plentiful and location is by Los Angeles Avenue, about a mile from the freeway 23/118 and located in a mall next to other worthy restaurants in the Moorpark neighborhood. The food is really good here. It's the closest I've had to authentic for a sit down Mexican Restaurant. I like to order the cheese enchilada and chile relleno. The service is really good here. They are very attentive. The ambiance is a little more casual. The building is set up so the dining room is just one big room. Theirs not as much privacy while dining. Had a great experience recently. After missing a train, I popped in with family. I was impressed by the big bar. I only had drinks. The options are fairly limited and no unique craft beers. I'd give this place a 10 for the chips and salsa. So yummy. I had a carne tostada, without the bowl because I only like the fried flat tortilla. The tostada was fresh and had a good amount of meat. The meat was a little plain but tender and delicious. They make fresh flour and corn tortillas and they were a 10/10! My husband had the steak fajitas and he loved it and would give them a 10/10. The food and service was awful. Haven't been here in years but the food quality has gone way down. This location is nowhere near as good as the Simi Valley one. We ordered several entrees, drinks and guacamole. Guac was very bland, no salt and pepper at the table either and the server did not come around. No refills on drinks. Place was not busy. Sides of salsa and sour cream were an upcharge. Biggest disappointment was how poorly made the enchiladas and quesadillas were. Cheese was not melted inside which is so gross. In the recent past, the two times I've been to the Moorpark location have been horrible. The last time I ordered the chicken Caesar salad. How can you go wrong with the Caesar salad but the lettuce was wilted. It was warm. It was disgusting and the manager tried to insinuate that I didn't know what Caesar dressing was that it had anchovies in it. I will never go back to the Moorpark location. Unfortunately, this restaurant is a Rip Off! No meat in the tacos! Gave them two try's to bring us a taco with more than one bite of chicken in it and they failed. Open your taco next time you visit this restaurant. Also the chicken fajitas were not good. Had to send that back for raw vegetables and the chicken is the frozen chicken they use for the kids chicken fingers. Too many disappointments. The food is mediocre at best. Waiter made mistakes so we Just got a rude server bring us the wrong dish with a very bad attitude. I could have slapped him he was so rude to our wives. Talk about going down the drain. The corn tortillas for the fajitas are way too thick and ruins the whole meal. They are so heavy and thick that they crack in half and makes the meal way too heavy. They didn't make them like that a few years ago. I don't know why they changed. read more

I went in there with my PTSD dog and was told that they do not allow the resemble or any animals inside their establishment and that was by the general manager said that that was from the owner I went back in a second time, after complaining on their Instagram page and the general manager, then stated well if I was just willing to work with him and like sit outside, then we wouldn't have a problem. State requires that I am allowed to enter any establishment with my service dog and sit anywhere not only on the outside when coming to a restaurant.. really need to learn with the laws are stop treating disabled people like they have some type of disease you can catch read more

I went there for a quick bite with my husband and I had my trained service dog with me....the owner said he would allow it "this time" but normally no dogs allowed. I showed him my dogs certification (even tho she was wearing her vest and he said, "service dogs are only the ones for blind people." I meet my dad and uncle here every week for dinner. The food is always delicious, the service is amazing (shoutout to Noe, he's awesome), they have a great beer selection (more than just Corona's and Modelo's), a full bar, and the atmosphere is one of the best in Moorpark. It was my fault thinking this was owned by the same people that own the Don Cuco restaurants in Burbank and Simi Valley...it is NOT. But it's this restaurant's fault for the mediocre food and service. We love the other Don Cuco restaurants and hadn't been sinced we moved to Oxnard. So we were looking forward to having some of their good food when we noticed this one in Moorpark. In looking at the menu we realized it was different than what we were used to but thought maybe they had downsized the menu during covid. But once the food came, we knew it was not the same. I ordered a 2 item combination with an enchilada and a chicken tamale. The tamale tasted like it had been boiled....it was soggy and fell apart on the plate. The enchilada was just ok. The rice, which is a staple that's hard to ruin in a mexican restaurant was terrible...tasted like it had been sitting in a hot pan all day. And it was expensive for what we got. 2 people ordereing 2 item combinations with two beverages came to over $60. $5 for an iced tea is highway robbery as it only costs maybe ten cents to make it. Used to come here often. Last two experiences here were disappointing, the food was fair but didn't seem as good as before and the drinks have become way overpriced. I ordered a dinner and when asked what dressing I wanted on my salad I assumed it came with my dinner.... Nope, separate charge on top of my $24 plate. The final straw was being charged extra for hot sauce, it seems like they are looking for every opportunity to run the bill up. First time visit and so glad we did, we just found our new place! The service was impeccable, prompt drink refills, sincere smiles, excellent environment to relax and enjoy a great meal. CHICKEN NACHOS were beyond delicious, the chicken was juicy and flavorful, the black beans and sauce was absolutely delicious, and they do not skimp on cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and jalapeños, we shared an order and we were too stuffed for anything else. The chips and salsa was also very good. People sitting near us had a tostada and crunchy tacos and they looked mouth-watering amazing, we will be back! The fish taco needs a bigger boat! Whoever hauled in this monster for the spicy mahi mahi tacos must have been built like Popeye! Excellent spice and HUGE fish portion.
