Believe it or not, first time at Don Cuco's! You know - I was quite impressed! If you have ever been to Yolanda's this is BETTER than it! We were in the area and craving some chips & salsa, so said let's try it. So glad we did! The drinks were amazing and the enchiladas, Chile relleno was chefs kiss. Beautiful inside with the art work. Service was quick and great. Every where you turned, every patron was happy and smiling. Good vibes. I would definitely return! 10/10 stars!

I've always thought that all Don Cuco's Mexican Restaurant is owned by the same family and found out today that it's NOT true. So, it's important to taste the difference between Simi and Moorpark, in essence. The ambiance are similar although I like the spirit chambers more of the Moorpark Don Cuco's; they seem to have better selections and nicer landscape. We had the Carne Asada and Wet Beef Burrito, we feel that their presentations are exactly similar and the way they cook their meats are about the same. The waiters and staff are also similar; both were respectful, polite and very welcoming. I'd say, these variables and manners are cultural and traditions, these two restaurants are just good, no differences in the way they serve their food and services. One distinct observation is their proper at the Moorpark Don Cuco's , grilled and sweet instead of spicy or hot, I ate every part of this pepper except the head, it was so tasty. So I asked for the waiter to explain the type, the way it was cooked and where it came from . Here, he explained all the answers to my questions without hesitation and evasion, thank you. Pricing was about average, parking is plentiful and location is by Los Angeles Avenue, about a mile from the freeway 23/118 and located in a mall next to other worthy restaurants in the Moorpark neighborhood. So, if you're feeling Mexican or steak in general or burrito in particular, drop by Don Cuco's Mexican Restaurant and enjoy your traditional abuelo-abuela cooking at a reasonable price.

A staple Mexican joint for our family! Service is always fast and hospitable. Got the carne Al carbon this time and hit the spot for a steak craving.

Love the shrimp fajitas and friend enjoyed the steak fajitas. They have a delicious very hot sauce. Drinks are super. Ordered the sangria. Reliably good. Perfect service.

Had a great experience recently. After missing a train, I popped in with family. I was impressed by the big bar. I only had drinks. The options are fairly limited and no unique craft beers. But, for the price of a big stein, who cares! The staff are very friendly. We felt valued and well treated. And all my party had were a few beers! See website for more details.

I ordered the enchiladas de mole negro. I'm Peruvian, and the flavor wasn't quite my personal preference, but I took the leftovers home and my husband who is Mexican and a big fan of mole absolutely loved it. So if you enjoy traditional mole, you'll probably appreciate it. My friend ordered the mole negro with rice and completely devoured her plate. She said she really enjoyed the flavor. I also ordered the Oaxacan horchata, and that was a highlight for me. I loved it so much very refreshing and delicious. The customer service was alright, a bit slow, but understandable since there was only one girl working the register and serving tables at the same time. The restaurant itself is cozy, and the bathroom was clean, which I always appreciate. Overall, it was a nice experience trying a traditional Oaxacan spot.

For once, the Yelpers are not being their usual, brutal selves. So I'm going to bring down some…read morereality here. The food is pretty good. I go out frequently and I cook at home a lot so I think I have pretty good perspective. We consume a fair amount of "authentic" Mexican food, and we travel to Mexico frequently. Recently we went to La Katrina and Manny's. Each has their own style but I wouldn't say one is hands down better in terms of food quality. But where this place sucks is atmosphere. Yelpers are being kind when they say it's a "hole in the wall". People, it's a dive. It's hot and stuffy. It can accommodate maybe 20 guests. 90% of the male patrons wear baseball caps. Parents entertain children by blowing up balloons then releasing them to make buzzy noises. Hahaha funny, NOT. People play their phones on open speakers, all while a soccer game is going on a tv high on the wall. There's one restroom, albeit immaculately clean, but still just one so you better be quick. This is not a quick serve restaurant. Wait service, such as it is, is slow and unobservant. I.e. we had to ask for chips, and when they arrived, no napkins, so we had to wait for the rest of our order to be able to wipe our hands. Our burning question from the menu was WTH are "glass" drinks? We asked and the waiter gestured towards the refrigerator with bottled drinks. Ok? So how are they different from "bottled" drinks on the menu? I'll post a photo so you can maybe decipher its meaning. We never got a straight answer. But what was crystal clear is, they don't offer fountain drinks. And no iced tea. If there was water, we weren't offered any. We arrived 10 minutes before a table next to us, with three guys. Within just a few minutes they were enjoying their lunches while we sat there. Finally when ours arrived, yeah it was fine, but nothing to do two huzzahs and a backflip over. And definitely not something I'd go out of my way for. I ordered the "regular" (as opposed to Oaxacan) enchilada plate with green sauce. I have a pretty good tolerance for "hot spicy", but this one made me sweat. Luckily, with their apposite of drink offerings, I had horchata, which helped to put out the fire. My husband ordered the chile relleno plate. He enjoyed it and said the sauce atop it was uniquely good. Their rice and beans were pretty good; needed a little salt on the beans. Maybe we'd return for takeout, but if you're considering this establishment for date night... don't.

He brought our drinks, chips, salsa, and food out promptly and continued checking on us throughout our meal. Unfortunately, one interaction with another server really affected the experience. The CO seemed to be out on my ginger ale, and it tasted awful. When I politely asked another server if he could help me get a different drink, he seemed visibly annoyed. He grabbed the cup from my hand and walked away while I was still trying to speak to him. It was close to closing time, but the attitude felt completely unnecessary. Thankfully, William stepped in and brought me a bottled ginger ale with a cup of ice and apologized for the bad-tasting drink. That is great customer service, and we really appreciated him! Aside from that interaction, the food was good, the ambiance was great, and the setting felt very authentic. My husband ordered a beer that came out ice cold and refreshing, which he loved. We will definitely give this place another try because overall we enjoyed it. Unfortunately, sometimes one server's attitude can affect an otherwise great experience.

I've been hearing about how wonderful this Mexican restaurant is and I can see the community agrees! We waited about 20 minutes to be seated - not bad at all! The hostess, servers and busboys are so friendly and on top of EVERYTHING! They have a full bar, the margaritas are great! It's very loud in there so be prepared! Five of us dined and everyone loved their food! We started with shredded beef nachos which were wonderful! The chili verde, chicken enchiladas and asada plate were all a hit! I personally could not wait to order the chicken mole' enchiladas (I LOVE mole' and heard theirs was amazing) BUT THEY RAN OUT! So disappointed! That's all I wanted, never even looked at the menu! It's not even 7pm yet? Why oh why do you not have enough for the Friday night rush!!?? When our waitress came back to to tell me they ran out of it, (she was very sweet and apologetic) and she had already put everyone's order in - I had no idea what I wanted ‍ so I ordered a chicken taco which didn't come out until about 5-10 minutes after everyone else's food was served. Other than that snag (my reason for the 4 stars not 5) their food is awesome! I'm definitely wanting to come back for the mole' and highly recommend coming here!
