What a gem of a place with great coffee, unique beers & ciders, and other goodies. Dallas as such a pleasure and made us two fantastic coffees. We got the Mexican Mocha and the Grasshopper (peppermint & mocha). The Mexican Mocha was great not being super sweet with the perfect hint of spice just as a Mexican mocha should be. The Grasshopper (can't fully remember the name) is on the sweeter side with refreshing peppermint & chocolate flavor. A must stop on this beautiful scenic route into or out of Sedona! read more

Genuinely an extremely awful and regrettable experience. After a long drive my partner and I arrived to a wedding in progress, not only rude to the couple, but also an auspicious warning for what was to come. What was advertised as a "Private Sanctuary" was much more a concert in progress. By 9pm our windows were still shaking. Despite raising these problems with the hosts, communication was nonexistent, shy of Kevin, who gets the one star in forced to give. Days later and still no recompense, or even response from the property management, we escalated to AirBnB and beyond. Please do yourself a favor and stay literally anywhere else. I can recommend a tent. or cardboard box, as a more comfortable night sleep. read more

The "Owner , Erik Harrel , and his wife Chelsea Murphy " are slum lords . We've been renting one of their places in Prescott for a year and they have kept the new dishwasher in the family room for the last 9 months. The piping broke in the house and they had some guy come " repair" it . Now the shower turns on to scalding hot and off. The latest is we were red carded by the gas company bc there's a gas leak . Never offered to put us in a hotel till it was fixed but fought with us over how much their willing to pay and that we have to pay full price to stay here during the days we have no heat or hot water . We've been paying three months of rent at a time . They have us wire money to some shell company. We've reported them to the IRS and will be following up with the other complaints we've formally filed with the city and the state. read more

Updated review - although everything below did happen - the owner was kind enough to refund both nights that we paid for so that was very nice. My only suggestion would be to somehow arrive before check - in time when the office or little cafe is open to confirm your room is clean. Silly to have to do that but looking at other reviews, this seems to be an ongoing problem. :-( Hopefully the owners read these reviews & will work to make some changes because the cabins & grounds are amazing in a great location. It would be sad to see this old place close down. First review: The room was disgusting when we arrived at 10:30pm on a Friday night for Fathers Day weekend even though we spoke to the staff several times that day & they knew the cabin we were checking in to. All the previous guests dirty sheets, towels, etc were everywhere. No one to call, no one to text. There weren't even extra sheets or towels if we had decided to deal with it til morning & change the bed. We ended up having to rent another hotel in Sedona at 11pm. They finally called back Saturday morning & said the place was clean now do we want to come back. Ummmmm no! They said they would refund the weekend, still hasn't happened. If you're looking for that quaint getaway with rustic cabin living, so you can unplug and concentrate on your bae, then you gotta give this place a shot. They have a little market on premises which is open daily from 7am to 7pm. This is the only area of the property which offers wifi, so you wont be surfing in your lodging. The store offers a limited supply of grab-and-go but also features made-to-order coffee and pizza. Check in is at 3:00pm sharp. If you show up at 2:31pm, they'll offer you an early check in option for only $35. I found the amenities to be sufficient, as the units include an outdoor propane grill, microwave, mini refrigerator, sink, dishes, pots/pans, cutlery, and coffee maker. I found the bed to be comfortable, but there is no air conditioning. Our unit had a ceiling fan and additional tabletop fan, which we used extensively during out 96 degree September visit. The hot water was on point. Dare I say it was even hotter than what my home water heater can produce. There is a private access to Oak Creek directly across the street from the property, and the water there is nice and cold. Perfect for losing a pair of expensive sunglasses, and for staging an impromptu rescue mission in the buff. The grounds, however, could use some upkeep, as the common recreational area is overgrown and dilapidated. Overall a great place for a short sabbatical in the throes of nature. read more

I responded to a request to help find a couples dog which was lost from the location of this business in the parking lot. The manager who called himself :Sean" allowed me to go on the property to help search for the dog but then, 15 minuted later, for some strange reason, accused me of trespassing and told me I could not search for the dog. I had been quiet and respectful so I am having difficulty understanding his complete disregard for an animal in danger, or the frightened people that lost their dog. I guess I would describe his behavior as cold and cruel. I would never recommend this place. read more

While the scenery is incredible, the private creek access is beautiful and our kids had so much fun tromping around, the accommodations at Don Hoel's cabins are SEVERLY lacking. We don't mind roughing it a bit, but our cabin was one step up from sleeping in a tent. The whole thing was falling apart, the shower was truly disgusting, looking like it had been painted over and painted with something that looked like cement. The shower leaked water everywhere, soaking the small bathroom. There were few lights, making it hard to get ready in the morning as it was hard to see anything. The bedding had stains, the floor was slanted, there was NO fan besides one box fan in the back "room" where my kids slept. It got incredibly hot during the day, we tried to stay out as late as we could so that it would be cooled down by the time we came back for bed. By the end of the stay (3 nights) we had ants everywhere!! Despite our food bing all pre-packaged and sealed. They were in the kitchen, on the bathroom floor, just everywhere we looked. Lastly, there is a market/cafe on property with posted hours starting at 7am every morning. This was untrue, our two mornings spent at the cabin, it wasn't open until past 8am. We gave up and drove into town as other places were actually open at their posted times. Overall, the only reason I gave this place two stars is because we enjoyed the secluded area, especially on a busy Holiday weekend, but next time we will pay more to stay at the other cabin options nearby, read more

First off, if you are looking for a 5 star resort, the price point will obviously alert you that this isn't your spot. However, if you're looking for a quiet escape from the city in beautiful surroundings at an affordable price, this IS your spot. It's clean, with all the basic things you'll need, coffee maker, kitchen,stove, small fridge, and clean comfortable beds. No TV, spotty internet from your cell phone, but a romantic cozy cabin for you and your significant other. We spent our 43rd Anniversary here for a couple days after a good snowfall, and it couldn't have been better. read more

We were on our way to the Grand Canyon and saw this little cafe on the side of the road. We pulled over to give them a shot. Breakfast was 100x better than I expected! The frittata was delicious and hot. It came in a cast iron skillet. The waffles are more cake like but they hit the spot. The sausage and bacon were perfect. And two breakfast burritos were inhaled. We enjoyed our breakfast outdoors. We took a short stool around the property while we waited for our breakfast. The cabins are super cute. Each one had their own outdoor seating area. What an amazing place. This was our 3rd time staying here. Pet friendly, plenty of space, and management is very helpful and friendly. You are able to go onto the website and make your reservation in advanced. Highly recommend due to being sold out quite often. So plan accordingly. We've stayed in cabin 8, 9, and 17. Cabin 8 was the biggest with plenty of room for a family of 4 with a small dog. Accommodations are well cleaned and taken care of. They take plenty of covid precautions and you are made to feel at home. One of the biggest conveniences is the market. They have everything from Advil to made to order food. That's if you don't want to prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen. I definitely recommend bringing your own food supplies to enjoy every aspect of the cabin and it amenities. There is plenty to do around the cabins, but if you want to go to flagstaff it's only a 30 min drive. read more

The place was rustic, which wasn't a problem at all. I didn't mind the lack of TV or Wi-Fi, although the lack of an in-room phone was a bit concerning, since the cellular connection was nearly nonexistent. We left our kid with his grandparents for the weekend, and they had no way to reach us in the event of an emergency. The two-star review stems from a few other issues, though. First, the resort's website heavily advertises fireplaces. It was one of the things I was most looking forward to, as it was cold and rainy. We were disappointed to find that the fireplace is actually used as the in-room heating unit and it controlled solely via a thermostat, meaning you can't just have a fire if you'd like one. Additionally, our fireplace was apparently broken. Even with the thermostat set to 90 degrees, the fireplace never once turned on. There was, however, a portable heating unit in the room, leading me to believe management knew the fireplace didn't work. At least we didn't freeze, I guess. We did attempt to contact the resort about this issue. Our email was never returned, despite receiving emails from the resort during our stay, and no one ever answered the phone. Next, the bed was extremely uncomfortable due to the fact that the foot of the bed was about two inches higher than the head. It's significant enough that it was immediately noticeable when we first entered the room. The second night wasn't as bad because we slept with our heads at the foot of the bed. The problem with that, though, was that our pillows kept falling onto the floor. Finally, the state of repair of the cabin, even aside from the fireplace, was not good. There was significant water damage in the bathroom, where it seems there has been a leak in the vicinity of the shower for some time. The presence of what appeared to be mold in the wood paneling was concerning. The wood was soft and wet enough that it readily flaked off when touched. The kitchen faucet was broken and totally mobile on one side, making it hard to turn the water on and control the temperature. There is a sign in the cabin warning of the presence of "critters," which isn't surprising given that it's located in the woods in the middle of the canyon, but I still didn't enjoy having spiderwebs in my shower. All in all, we enjoyed the rustic room and the remote location, but for the price and the lack of basic repairs, I wouldn't stay again. read more

Love this place for how clean the cabin was when we arrived and the serenity of peacefulness inside the woods. We decided to do a cabin vacation for our 6-month-old baby celebration and we are glad we chose this one. It is very near to the Sedona uptown and reaching here was easy as it is just next to the main road towards the flagstaff. Checkin was quick and easy. The cabin was well prepared and clean, especially during this pandemic. The cabin has everything you would need to cook. Has full kitchen with all utensils and cutleries including the tools you would need for barbeque. They even kept a Keurig in the cabin and also a dishwashing liquid. Kudos to them. Cabins with a full kitchen will have a dedicated propane barbeque as well kept outside. The property has some 15+ cabins and we stayed in Cabin 3. The property is so well maintained and it was very peaceful. This place has private access to the creek as well and it is just 30 seconds of walk far when you cross the road. Phone signals are not available here but they have kept a landline phone in case you need to call anyone. Wifi is available in the main lobby only but we were getting signals at one side of our cabin#3 as well. But I doubt you would have a signal if your cabin is not nearer ones. The market is not open late but if you can plan, then you can get everything you need before they close. Restaurant closing time is too early (4 pm when we went) but I bet you would be prepared with food and drinks anyways when you go on cabin vacation. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Sedona and looking for a serene environment to stay instead of a loud and crowded hotel. read more

They will steal your money!! Avoid this place! I booked a 4 night stay accommodation for March 25-29 back on Jan 27,2024. The next day I realized I needed one less night so I called. Went to voicemail which was full. Tried each day for 3 days and same full inbox. Decided to write an email on 2/1, requesting the amendment of one less day. No response. Finally on 2/5, I asked that they just cancel my reservation all together or I'd dispute it with my bank. No response. On 2/6, I let them know I have disputed the charge and that they should cancel. Finally on 2/7 I hear that they were sorry for the delay and that if I'd like to cancel the dispute they'd refund me in full. I decided to leave it alone. They told my bank it was a valid charge, I did not stay there. Now the bank is not refunding me and neither is Don Hoel Cabins. Their excuse is that my dispute cost them money, when they should have responded and issued a refund in the first place. They stole $476 for zero services rendered. I booked and stayed at Loft 2 in Sedona through Airbnb instead. It was a wonderful accommodation with superb communication. If you've made it this far, I highly recommend you do not bother with this place. read more

Stopped at this cute little spot when we saw coffee... we were greeted by a very sweet and friendly lady who told us everything was homemade... so we ended up ordering 2 breakfast burritos (one with bacon and the other sausage) and Wow! While I have not stayed at the cabins (but I would encourage you to read the reviews), I can tell you that before it changed hands, the Butterfly Garden Market and Cafe was a thriving convenience store that was always busy. After the change of ownership, the friendly signs were taken down, it was painted black and turned into a yoga and meditation center, which apparently drove away most of the business. There are outdoor port-o-potties for the truly desperate, but they set a new low for unpleasantness. The bathroom is for employees only. Now rebooted as a cafe once again, it doesn't look like the customers have come back. The parking lot is almost always empty, and the place is often locked up while the Open signs glow in the window. read more

I would start with the cabins are located in a beautiful canyon outside of Sedona. This makes it quiet at night and only about a 15 minute drive into downtown. This is one of the best things about this venue. Additionally, these are Cabins and not a suite at the Hyatt so can't have that kind of expectation. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the area and for our 4 nights we enjoyed our stay overall. We also had reservations during a storm which ended up closing the highway in both directions. The staff was very helpful with our difficulties in getting there and accommodating all of the associated drama. My only complaint and caution that to call them and confirm the amenities for the cabin and the resort in general. For instance: They say they have WiFi: It's true, but it's only reliably accessible near the little general store. We could not get a signal in our cabin and would periodically go to the store to get emails, make phone calls and send texts. Additionally, the television is tied to the wifi, which is unreliable, so TV is out, have movies on your phone or IPad. The Cabins have fireplaces: however our cabins was not usable. So if you are planning to use it, confirm first. Next. If your cabin has a kitchen. Make sure to ask if All the appliances work. Our oven was defective and ended up causing the carbon monoxide alarms to go off for the better part of 4 hours. The point is if you are planning to cook, just keep that in mind. I still do not have any regrets, I will say that from a relaxing, laid back and peaceful perspective, I enjoyed my stay and would stay again, but would definitely call and have a conversation about the cabin you want to rent prior to booking. read more

I will never return to Don Hoel's cabins and would never recommend them to anyone else. Had reservations to stay here March 24-26. Ended up staying only one night. Arrived at 4:10 office/market closed and no one would answer the phone. After the first night on the worst bed ever, I pulled a back muscle. Had to go into town and spend over $200 to get another room. I did speak with Tammy on the morning of the 25th telling her what happened and why we left early. She promised she would let the owners know and they would be in contact. Of course no one has ever called me back and will not respond to emails. Extremely poor customer service and the pictures are better than the actual place. read more

We needed a last minute place to stay. I hopped online and found a cabin available. Normally I never book anything without first reading reviews, but I didn't have time to research. After I made the reservation I was a little nervous after seeing some recent negative reviews, but we had a very nice stay. A couple of things to note: Unfortunately, the business website does not give a layout of the cabins. (It would be SUPER helpful if they did!) We booked Cabin #18 only to discover that it was right on 89A, hence, it was incredibly noisy. I always bring a little white noise machine with me when we travel but it was no match for the sound of the traffic. Traffic does die down a bit between 11pm-5am but you will still hear cars pass at all hours of the night. The cabin itself was very cute. With the exception of a few cobwebs, it was also very clean. I'm assuming the cabins were smoked in once upon a time as there was a hint of old, stale, cigarette smoke in our cabin. I have the nose of a bloodhound, but someone who does not have a heightened sense of smell may not notice. We cracked a window open closest to the bed and the smell no longer bothered me. The beds are firm, but comfortable enough. Check in was simple as the code to the door was e-mailed to me that afternoon. We did not have any interaction with any staff during our short, one-night stay. Though the cabins are not on the water (we thought they were on that side of the road), it's beautiful to stay right in Oak Creek Canyon. We loved having the little fireplace to turn on in the evening to take out the chill. We are not opposed to coming back to visit again, we just won't book Cabin 18 as the location is fairly undesirable. Take note of this unusual statement on their website, though (unusual to me at least, as I have never seen anything like this before anywhere I have stayed): "Specific cabins can be requested, but not guaranteed." This makes me a little uneasy as the cabins are different prices with different locations, and I would hate to get stuck by the highway again when requesting and paying for one further back on the property. read more

The market has always been a nice convenience but went there today and the have these horrible flags for advertisin, which is not consistent with our quaint little community. I went in for a 12 pack of coors light and was charged $35.00. OMG that is highway robbery. I do not recommend spending any money in this store! super over priced. Just returned from a wonderful weekend at the cabins here. We had cabin 19 and could not have been happier. Great deck with a grill. Fully functional and well equipped kitchen great bath and comfortable bed. We were here to hike and the place is walkable to several trailheads including West Fork. The place is being run by Dan and Megan and they are doing an awesome job. It was great to see them. Dan has the on site resto rocking for breakfast and lunch. Do visit and stay here it was wonderful and we will be back! read more

We are currently staying at this property. We are stuck here two more days. This has been the worst experience we have EVER encountered. We arrived only to find all heaters in our 3-bedroom cabin broken and only 1 small space heater. It was a low of 26 degrees and we gave two babies. The cabin was ice cold and none of us slept all night, the babies were crying because they were so cold. The coffee shop said they were all out of heaters too. We had to drive 30 minutes to find some heaters and purchased our own. Now day 2, the hot water has stopped working. The water is so cold it makes your hands ache. I've called the resort phone number multiple times and left 4 messages and I haven't received one call back. They've left us here cold and without hot water. Why are we paying $1,800 for glorified camping. read more
