We accidentally stumbled upon this place on Cinco de Mayo about 50 minutes from our home town. What a great place. Great food, Family friendly atmosphere , nice bar with great delicioso well made drinks. Chips and salsa super addictive and tasty with a kick. We had dinner salads and loved their dressings. We had chicken and steak meals. Both delicious the rice and beans also great the bacon wrapped steak also great. Out with coworkers and we tried this Mexican place. Like all Mexican places they give you chips and salsa, which were good. But I've never seen this before... we wanted guac too and their guac said market price for the cost. Hey there is a first for everything. Overall the guac was just ok. El Buho mezcal (a personal favorite) caught my eye, then many others behind the bar... including the very hard to find Fortaleza. I came for a late Saturday lunch (2:00pm) and was surprised to see that there were a good amount of tables that were filled with customers. Definitely a popular spot! My wife and I went here on July 13, 2024, but left abruptly when our phones blew up with news of a shooting at the Trump rally in Butler PA. Given that event and the rutkus of the next few days, I simply forgot to post a review. Not our first time at Don Jose, but it's fairly consistent with great chips and salsa, and generous portions for the meal. We know the waiter, so we were provided with a grattis appetizer and that was so kind. I got my signature steak fajitas, just fantastic with plenty of meat and peppers. Price point is better than the Chapala grill franchise, but they use hanger steak so that may be the difference. My wife ordered a chimichanga and was most pleased. We skipped dessert, which is something I typically don't get in Mexican restaurants. We'd certainly come back. read more

This past week our family dined at Don Jose for a birthday celebration. It was our first time back here in a few years. On a weeknight, the inside was packed at dinner time so we ate outdoors under a tent. Outdoor seating was fine and the service was good. They start you off with chips and salsa for the table. We ordered guacamole as an appetizer. I don't eat guacamole but others at the table said it was good. Our entrees ranged from my steak fajitas to tacos, burritos, and a combination plate. The steak on my fajitas was very tough which was a disappointment. Others found their meals average. There's many other excellent Mexican restaurants in the area, so this place needs to step it up. Popped in here last evening for a quick dinner around 7:45. We got seated right away and were delighted to find live music and cute decor. The live music consisted of 3 mariachi players and they were very good! I ordered a small cup of chili and a side salad. Both were good. My son ordered soft tacos from the kids menu and really enjoyed it. My hubby had the chicken fajitas which were just OK in his opinion. Overall I do recommend this place for the ambience primarily. It is decorated with bright and upbeat colors with murals on the wall. Staff is always pleasant and very attentive. I decided to order take out to pick up on the way home. Steak Fajitas, a cheese quesadilla and beef tacos were on the agenda tonight. Ordered ahead and thirty minutes later everything was ready for pick up. After a weekend of skiing at Shawnee Ski Resort, we were definitely hungry and wanted something that would fill us up really well. No fast food or chain restaurants for this group. We stumbled upon this restaurant while browsing through Yelp. This place accommodated our party of 13 people on a very short notice. When we got there, the staff was very attentive and friendly. We were seated comfortably, not jammed in a corner. They had ample social distancing among customers. The staff wore masks and required that you wear one before you enter or work around the premises (but not when you are eating). The food was excellent! Even my kids (who are very picky eaters) liked and finished their meals. Portions are generous. Get their Chorizo for the appetizer. They're to die for! Their desserts were spot on and not too sweet. Even their Tres Leches was perfectly balanced. It wasn't a sugar-shocking, diabetes-inducing treat at all! The price was very reasonable. My only beef is that it is an hour away from my home. Sad night tonight. My wife and I loved this place. The wait staff is great but management is lacking. We went there tonight for dinner and was seated. First off it was so hot in there but we chalked it up to they were busy. Then there were flies everywhere. Then we waited over a half hour for our appetizer chorizo to come out. In the sour cream there was 2 bugs crawling in it. When we told the waiter he was very apologetic and went and told the guy behind the bar who I'm guessing was the manager who just shrugged his shoulders. Never came over to us. When I saw that we told the waiter that we would pay for our drinks and we were leaving. He went to get our bill and returned and said we were covered. Management never came to talk to us so if you couldn't be bothered to address the situation then we can't be bothered to spend money at your location. So disappointed. read more

It's Cinco De Mayo Time and what better way to celebrate then to fill up on Tacos, Fajitas and Beer at one of the local Mexican Hot Spots. I had this place bookmarked for the longest time but after seeing my Friend and fellow Yelper Cat M's latest Pics I Thought It was high time that I stopped in. And I'm pretty glad that I did because the food here is tremendously delicious. Everything that I had here was full of Authentic flavor and the Meats were cooked to perfection on a deliciously seasoned Grill for that one of a kind Mexican taste. Service was very friendly and on point with drink refills. Loved being able to walk here! Every time I drive past the parking lot is always full. Came tonight and was able to sit right away. The restaurant is decorated toward the Mexican culture - very colorful chairs and paintings everywhere. Staff was very attentive from the start. Complimentary staff brought over red salsa and chips. I had asked someone if they also had green salsa -- salsa verde, they said oh yes and brought it over. The entrees were delicious - very flavorful. We had the chicken mole enchiladas and the steak Guadalajara. For dessert -- which was eaten too quickly for a pic -- was the amaretto truffle. When the bill came I was surprised slightly when there was a charge for $2.25/per green salsa! Not that it's a lot or a big deal but it would've been nice to had just been given the heads up from staff, like sure I'll bring it over but we do have a $2 charge additionally for it. read more

We ordered takeout for a family diner from here in mid April 2021. The corn chips, guacamole, salsa, and chicken cascades were fresh and really good. The best I have had in years! This is the reason that I give them 2 star even after the entree failure. The entrees were not fresh, had no taste, and were dry (both beef and chicken). It seemed to me that the entrees may have been frozen. The place was busy so they are doing solid business. The appetizers were really good so I do not understand the failure of the entrees. For the money we spent (I did not have time to take pictures of all the food) the quality of the entrees should be much better. If your looking for some apps to share, at the time of this writing, you should not be disappointed here. I am glad we tried this place. Next time we will stick to appetizers. The reason I tend to stick to chain restaurants is that they are more consistent from visit to visit. We took a chance here but it was nice to have a change of food. My Absolute favorite Mexican Restaurant! Everything I've had is excellent! Love this place!

(Reposting, since Yelp censored off our first post) The food here is totally inconsistent, and can range from over-cooked and dried out as if made hours earlier, to way over-salted, to mouth-burning spicy even when you've told the person taking your order that you wanted the meal without jalapenos. But along with Don Jose's inconsistency is the downright nastiness, rudeness and condescending attitude of the owners/managers, who act as though they're doing you a favor by letting you buy your meals there! Don't bother explaining whether you or someone in your party has special dietary needs or allergies, because Don Jose's manager or other personnel will interrupt and insult you, tell you they don't want to hear it, and say they don't need customers telling them how to cook their food! If there are any problems with your order or the quality of what's served, such as a recent experience where almost all rice was given and hardly any beans in a dinner platter--after we explained that the person ordering the food couldn't have too much rice due to a diabetes problem--there won't be any apology. You'll just be told you're wrong by their rude female bartender or one of the owners. After getting bad, inconsistent food on multiple occasions, messed up orders and preparation, and being talked down to with total hatred and disrespect that borders on racism by the owndership, we will never patronize Don Jose again. With the area's growing Mexican population and demand for quality Mexican cuisine, hopefully competitors will move in and put this place out of business! read more

I came here the other night for dinner while in town on travel for work. This was actually the second place I decided to go to and I have no idea why it wasn't the first. Yes it looks like a little place when you go to the parking lot. However looks cam be deceiving. The place was just about full when I got there and it was a mixture of groups. The salsa is great; when it first came out, I was expecting it to be weak like most Mexican places are however looks were definitely deceiving. It was really good, so good that I wish it was sold in stores. I had a helpful waitress and she gave me suggestions on what to order. One of my favorite things to do is to ask the wait staff of places when I'm on travel, what should I have if this is the only time I'm going to be here. The chicken suiza was rrally quite good. Better then the version I've had in Michigan at the chain I go to periodically. The flan was really good. It definitely topped off my night. My waitress was attentive without being overly attentive. She did not have a problem with the fact that I only got water. She kept the water full, in fact I think I was only ever really empty one time. If I knew that I was going to be back, I would say that I would be back. However, I do not know the next time I will be in the area. read more
