A bakery I came across while passing by. The worker was very nice and the bread I had purchased was warm and tasted fresh.

A great spot to pick up conchitas to share at work or function. They have the regular size and mini size for more of a bite size. The dough was pretty good but flaky. It's pretty messy when you eat it. Overall taste is decent. The shop is spacious and has plenty of parking. I did try the chocolate cake from here. It was good. If i could give zero stars I would, bought a mixture of sweetbread some for my mom and some to take home $21 worth half way through eating a pineapple bread there was lots of mold inside , disgusting since i already ate some checked out a few more pieces come to find out they had mold as well. I know the cost of things are high but 5 dollars for 2 pieces of pan dulce. One was a beso and the other was basic plus 2 bollios is insane. Good luck finding a majority of prices for anything here. It's localyto me and I would go more often but I changed my diet. The bollios use to be 33 cents to 50 cents and are now 75 cents or a dollar?! You can almost get a loaf of bread for that. I did. I was going to get 2 bollios for me but I already had sandwich bread at home. I know it's not the same but I'd rather not waste it. I will be coming here less and going to other panaderías. Awesome mom and pop little place I go for my stress relief drink and tamale. The cinnamon coffee made my heart filled with happiness. Self serve coffee and you can add creams as much as your taste desires. Tamale can be bought as how ever you want even 1 tamale or a dozen. You can mix them up between Chicken, Pork, Cheese or corn. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Some days I got extra sauces and forgot to pay, they said pay next time. Best part no one harassed me for tips. I tipped all the time because I don't feel being pressured. I tipped because they cleaned the counter for cleanliness and they mopped the floor I walked on. Disappointed! Ordered tamales for Christmas and the guy Alex who took my order who can barely speak English said that they are open Christmas DAY not Eve as what this business was arguing. Went there Christmas Day and the place was closed and you can't even leave a message because the phone doesn't take any messages. Long story short I had no tamales for my family for Christmas. The issue was language barrier. I don't have any issues people that can't fully speak English but don't put a person to take orders who can't speak and understand English well. If that's so I wouldn't be on here to write this review. I was honestly surprised to see 3.5 stars for this local gem. I will admit I have not tried many items from this location, but what I have tried is definitely worth the five star review. Starting with the pan dulce.... The conchas are SO soft and I love that they have mini conchas. The empanada con crema is delicious. I am picky with elote pan dulce lol it passed the test but wasn't special to me. Still worth a try, it's tasty enough. The bolillo con queso is NOMNOMNOM delicious. The cream cheese and jalapeno is great but mozzarella con jalapeño takes the prize for me. I also love that they have milk and different bottled drinks for sale, in case you're stopping by for a quick breakfast or lunch. I love that they make jugos naturales!! I always get the Energizer. Specify what ingredients you want, sometimes they leave out the ginger :( breaks my lil heart when they do. I haven't been to Don Ponchos in awhile and saw the reviews that they make great bread to eat. However, I gave the four star due to the prices being higher than Northgate's prices. I bought 15 pieces of pan Dulce at $1.50 each, 4 tamales at $2.75 each, and 4 jalapeño cream cheese breads at $2.50 each. The total came out to $44.50. I get that inflation has made a lot of things expensive, but I could get a pan Dulce for $1.00 each at Northgate, cream cheese bread for $1.89 each at the Northgate in Norwalk. Aside from the prices being higher than other competitors. The service was excellent! The ladies were kind to my baby and I, and explained to me the prices of the products since I couldn't see the breakdown of each price on the receipt. From my perspective, I felt the place was clean and organized. I didn't see any food that was spoiled or left out too long that the taste is dry. I enjoyed the taste of the pan Dulce, tamales, and cream cheese to share with my family :) super tasty and it's a bakery close to home! Can't really trust these bakeries! Why are there NATS in the Pan Dulce? Do you guys not clean the clear things you have the bread in? I saw about 20 of them flying around the bread, on the bread chilling, it's nasty! I told one of the workers and all he said was "oh ok" like he already knew they are not clean! The staff is very friendly and the food is good however, if you're a panaderia that never has conchas you get an automatic zero. Last 5 times I went including today they do not have conchas and informed me that they weren't going to have any today. I liked their bread and stuffed bolillos until I found a bolt screw in one of the stuffed chorizo bean rolls. I went back immediately to notify the store owner so they can be careful when making them. I'm glad I felt the bolt right away and spit it out back into the bag. I was offered another stuffed bolillo but I didn't want anything else. Could be a one time thing that its never happened to them before but unfortunately I will not be going back. I've been to this bakery a few times & each time it reminds me why I keep going back. Their bolillos are always fresh, never hard. They always have soft, fresh bread made daily. Their mini conchas are soooo delicious. I could eat a whole dozen! One downfall, I ordered a champurrado & was served abuelita hot chocolate. I went back in to confirm they in fact did serve me the right drink and the lady at the counter reassured me it was champurrado. It 100% was NOT. It was like water, had no flavor and was cold. I've had their champurrado before they expanded the bakery and it was amazing. Thick, full of spices and great flavor. Not sure what happened to their recipe? I've been coming hear for a few years now and have alway been welcomed by the friendly staff and really enjoyed the variety or pan, cakes, tamales and menudo. They have expanded the bakery which made me excited. However, now they have less of a variety of pan and a lot of times their trays for bread are empty. I ordered two dozen tamales and noticed the quality had declined, they are now mostly masa with a very little meat on the bottom, this was the case for all the tamales. Cake decorating is not their forte. I ordered a cake and asked for it to be decorated with rosettes that had an ombre effect from white to gold. There wasn't much of an ombre effect at all... the color was more yellow than anything. The rosettes were messy to say the least. I pipe better rosettes and I just bake and decorate every once in a while. Really disappointed with the asthetics. Price was really low though. $65 for a half sheet cake.
