Every week before Christmas we get tamales from La Moderna. They're delicious. What can't be beat are the beans. We also always get salsa- that one isn't always consistent on spice level but it is consistently delicious. We also always get pan dulce from the self serve area. Their conchas are a fam fave--especially the yellow one. It's generally super busy during the holidays but the staff tries to keep things moving as quick as possible. You can't go wrong with this panaderia. Their bread is fresh and flavorful. There is a wide variety of bread, tamales and cooked food. Their menudo is top notch and their carnitas with their salsa is an always purchase. If you can make it home and not eat some of the carnitas, you either can't smell or you got a cold. I have always love the pan dulce here, and my recent experience was no different. I had some conchas of different colors, I love them, in every color. I recently had the tamales. My opinion; the beef tamale was a little dry for my taste but the cheese so juicy and savory, I loved it. I came toward closing time, so I was thankful to get such a juicy and savory cheese tamale. It had the chunk of cheese and strips of green chile inside. My next goal, is to arrive early, before they pork and chiken tamales run out. For the last couple years during Christmas time, my coworkers have brought tamales from the bakery into the office and I have loved them especially the green chili pork tamales. I finally went this year and got 3 dozen green chili pork tamales to share with family for the holidays and I'm not sure if it's because they are busy and are just trying to make them quick, but there is barely any green chili or pork in the tamale and not spicy whatsoever. The tamales are delicious; however, if you're ordering dozens of tamales make sure you count your tamales. Last time I noticed that my two dozen tamales were short two tamales and I thought it was a fluke so I didn't make a big deal about it. I ordered another two dozen tamales today and totally forgot to count them - when I got home I was short another two tamales. I think whoever is packing them is only putting 11 tamales in when you order by the dozen because this is now twice that I have come up short on my tamale count. So far I can only speak for their tamales and their Carnitas. And let me tell you if you come only for that you won't be disappointed. I have still yet to try their menudo or posole. On the outside this place doesn't look like much, you might not even think that they have Carnitas as it looks like a bakery. But do not let its appearance for you as they make some of the best Carnitas I've ever had. Their bolios are also incredibly soft and delicious. I will say that I wish that they would put a bit more meat in their tamales, but the dough on the tamales is very moist and delicious you still won't be disappointed even if you get a little amount of meat with it. What I did was throw a bit of my Carnitas on the bread and I'm more than made up for it. Overall, I guess this is mainly a review on their Carnitas. Let me tell you that if you come here just for Carnitas you will not be disappointed. They are not organized. First of all they need to have 2 lines one for advanced orders and another for walk-ins l. I placed an order the day before and when I called to change my time of pickup they called me back and told me they forgot to put my red tamales aside and had only 6 so I had to get 6 different kind. Not acceptable. The blonde girl is so rude I asked another lady if I need to make line to pick up my order and she took my name and was about to give me my order then the blonde lady came at me with attitude and told me to go get in line.
