So there are Mexican bakeries and then there are Oaxacan Mexican bakeries, and Cinco de Mayo is the best in both categories. Their bread is exactly what Oaxacan bread should taste like, and their regular Mexican bread, like conchas ect., is beyond delicious. I had difficulty finding an Oaxacan bakery in Whittier, and I am glad that I found Cinco de Mayo. They also offer tamales, champurrado, and freshly made tortillas. I would definitely recommend trying them if you like Mexican bread. Look past the chain bakeries and give a small bakery a chance! read more

Stopped by this morning for some fresh tamales (mole, cheese, and pork) and wowthey did not disappoint! The mole tamales were absolutely amazing... soft, flavorful, and packed with that perfect homemade taste. The cheese and pork ones were just as delicious -- soft, juicy, and full of flavor! I also grabbed a champurrado and it was sooo good -- warm, rich, and comforting. I've tried their conchas and a few other treats before, and everything is always soft, fresh, and just delicious every time. The people here are super friendly too, which makes it even better! I don't really do reviews but I had highly disappointed I want it to try this bakery because it is close to my house Tamales are very dry I also got a sweet bread! Sweet bead was super hard not even able to eat it. And my Champurrado was cold and no flavor what so ever. We also bought some tamales and they were absolutely delicious! Well the new owner reached out to me, I must oblige, it's a new year, long past and things have changed, obviously the new reviews show it's a flourishing business, they are on top of their game and making great home made tortilla's, tamales and pan dulce. I also been in touch w/my childhood friends who still live in the area, they have been there and enjoy the food. Past review is no more, for this owner came into this and got it revamped, up to code withe the requirements, and obviously got good food, service and a large customer base....Love these types of businesses that cares about the community as much as they care about their products, service and business!! read more

Tamales were extremely dry and I was only refunded half of my money. The man at the counter even agreed that the masa was real dry. He mentioned something about the company he buys the masa from?? read more

WHITTIERS HIDDEN TREASURE!!!! This bakery is amazing!! Everytime I go in, I can't believe how fresh and delicious everything is. I can tell that the bakers are making everything with lots of love and passion. You can tell that they really love what they are doing. This is the best Mexican style bakery that I have ever been to. They make HANDMADE tortillas!! The other day I brought home warm tortilla for dinner. Way better than the one that you buy from the supermaket. The breadpudding is fabulous!! It has a subtle banana flavor that is so delicious. And, they are very very affordable!! I only end up spending a few dollars everytime I go in . Even with my family. The salsa is more expensive now, but it's a mom and pop store so still buy and support. They make tortillas, you can eat right out of the bag when they are warm. Very good. read more

If you plan on going here for the sweet bread "pan dulce" please don't! It's so expensive and the bread they have there is not fresh and they do not have a big variety. Bread was stale and I spent about $6.55. And all bread was already bread from like a morning before. I went there at 8am . Maybe they might specialize more on tortillas than on the bakery but will not be going back there at all. read more

Arrived at 10 on a Thrs. morning looking for fresh flour tortillas but was told they only had corn. Not sure if they don't make them at all or they just didn't have any right then. She sent me to the carniceria next door. Bought the chips and salsa which were excellent. BTW the meat market also sold chicharron which I could not resist. read more
