By far the best mexican food i've had in Petaluma to date. This place was Ridiculously good for the prices! Had lunch with the boyfriend and daughter here on a Friday. I had the steak fajitas, boyfriend had the chicken fajitas, daughter had a chicken quesadilla grande. The fajitas were delicious, with generous portions of food. The mushrooms in the fajitas had so much flavor that if they offered a mushroom fajita plate, i would seriously consider ordering it....me and the daughter were fighting over the last mushroom! The fajitas come sizzling to the table. The complimentary chips and salsa are house made, very fresh and tasty. The prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and portions of food received. I had a coupon for Don Panchos and thought I would try it out. It was actually better than I thought it would be. The cheese enchillada and chile relleno with rice and refried beans was delicious. The chips were ok and they give you a red salsa,tomatillo and a chipolte bean dip. I would definitly go here again. Give it a try! read more

Leaving Petaluma heading back to Livermore 6pm on a week night, it's a long haul. Found Don Pancho's near the Trader Joes off the 101. Clean. Nice level of music and not too crowded. Met right away by a super nice lady that directed me to any table. They brought me my drink and some chips, salsa and some refried bean dip with chipotle. The beans were awesome. Ordered a #8 with a carne asada taco and a cheese enchilada. The carnet Asada had a great grilled flavor the beans were on point the rice was good the cheese enchilada was not the best but I ate it anyway. One of the best it's just unfortunate it's in a hard to spot location and there are so many other good mexican restaurants in town definitely as good as the rest and better in some ways as well they all have their unique style I definitely like this place as much if not more than MI Pueblo (not as crowded too) give it a shot you won't regret it! Been coming to don Pancho's for years with my parents they like it a lot. Went tonight with my son. Fresh chips, beans, red and green salsa were good. They actually brought us more when we finished them which some places don't . I had the 2 taco combo with beans and rice. Pretty good, tacos could of used more salsa but alright. My sons macho carne burrito was huge. I ate a bit of that too when he was done mine wasn't the biggest meal. Price was under $20 for both of us. This review is long over due. Don Panchos is one of my favorite mexican food places ever. One summer I spent every other day here with a friend- fersrs. Their food is always delicious and fast. I usually go with their cheese and shredded chicken enchiladas, or shredded chicken quesadilla, both freaking bomb. My mom always goes with their Carnitas--SO GOOD. The perfect amount of spice and flava! The staff is super friendly, and if you get there at 9pm (closing time) they never hesitate to seat you. Last but not least, they have the best salsa. I've been here several times and keep coming back. I always get my favorite dish: 2 cheese enchilada combo plate. I love the enchilada sauce and all of the yummy cheese! I think they might have my favorite or 2nd favorite enchiladas in town. It might be the only thing I ever had there, except for bites of my family member's food. Their carnitas is good too. They serve their chips with a green salsa, a red salsa, and usually a bean dip. They're yummy and not too spicy. The service is great. They bring out your food super fast, so it's great for quick lunches or dinners. There's plenty of seating with big booths. Okay, so its not fancy. And its in the low rent mall next to K-Mart and Longs Drugs rather than in beautiful downtown Petaluma. However, the food is GREAT. We go there regularly for the El Diablo (spicy shrimp/tomato dish). It is not expensive, and you will find lots of Mexican/American families eating here, especially on weekends. I'm not local to Petaluma so im not familiar with the mexican resteraunts in the area. I found Don Panchos because it was basically right off the freeway and i was craving a burrito! The service was quick, the lady who served me was really nice and the burrito tasted so delicious! I was very satisfied. About 30-45 minutes later, I was stomach sick. For 3 days I was on and off stomach sick and my stomach felt strangely uncomfortable with wierd stomach pains. On the third day my stomach was begining to feel better but then, a random 2 hour fever hit me with no warning. Whatever bacteria was in my system was gotten rid of because I felt completely better after the fever wore off. I knew it could not be a stomach flu because I have never had a fever before that lasted only a matter of hours, with literally no other symptoms. I hate to point the blame and hurt a resteraunts credibility like this, especially because their food was very good. But there is no doubt in my mind that the food I ate here made me very sick. And sadly, I wont ever eat there again. read more

Went for lunch and ordered a hard taco and a quesadilla ala carte. The taco had a plate full of lettuce and the seasoning of the meat was odd at best. I ordered the quesadilla with guacamole which was $5.25. What I got was a very small quesadilla with tasteless cheese and no guacamole. The server didn't seem to understand that I was asking where the guacamole was. I questioned the bill when it came because I was charged as if the guacamole was inluded. I told the server that the bill was wrong. She didn't understand and thought we wanted separate checks (??). A gentleman came over to clarify and I asked him why I was charged for the order when there was no guacamole. Instead of apologizing or offering to adjust the bill he said that the price was the same whether or not the guacamole was served. Say what??? We had tried this place several years ago and it was pretty bad. For some reason, we thought we'd give it one more try. Big mistake. Bad food, worse service. read more

It's a rarity to find good food and good service in the same place in petaluma. It's been so long in fact that I forgot what it feels like to be served by such friendly, competent, and attentive people but that is the norm at don ponchos. The food here is fresh and authentic. Freshly made chips that are perfectly salted and wafer thin. Delicious smokey molé sauce and refreshing margaritas. It's tucked away in the most culturally diverse shopping center in town! I lovingly call it minority village. Where else can you find Chicago style pizza, korean, thai, mexican, 2 different Chinese restaurants and 2 different Vietnamese spots in the same parking lot? I think the close proximity of so many affordable, convenient eats competitively drives them all to be on top of their respective games. And best of all they reserve any judgemental looks when you put down an entire super burrito in less than 15 mins. In fact one if the servers gave me a fist bumb when he cleared my empty plate lol. I have been a customer for a few years and they just lost me. The food quality has always been decent but there is fresher food in town. The main reason I have gone in the past is because when I get a burrito I want it extremely spicy. They are the only Mexican resteraunt in Petaluma that I know of that has salsa that is spicy enough for me. I have always suffered through the terrible service and so-so freshness for the spice I crave. Well the poor service just put the last straw on my back. I have been ignored there many times but this last time I had to wait to place my to-go order for 5 minutes while the waitress had a conversation with other customers. The only table in the house that had customers sitting at it. I had to ask her to help me and this same waitress has done it to me before. This is where it gets really bad and is the reason I will never be back. I was not happy with the service so I did not include a tip on my debit card payment. I just got my statement and they authorized a $2.00 tip on my card without my consent. So I guess I will go back once more, but only to collect my $2.00 and to tell the manager what I think of their service. I would have given them no stars but it wasn't an option. read more
