The last time we visited our aunt last year, she took us to this restaurant and we had a great time, especially with their margarita tower! We all remembered it so we decided to go back while visiting her again. Of course, we ordered the same margarita tower (which holds 80 oz of margarita). While we were enjoying it, a lady from another table came up to us, pointed at the tower and asked, "WHAT IS THIS!?" We explained what it was and she seemed fascinated by it. Maybe she'll order one the next time she visits. LOL. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling well that day so I couldn't drink much. That just meant more for my husband and our aunt and they certainly didn't complain. All the food we ordered was delicious and we had a wonderful time catching up. Thoroughly disappointed. The beef in the beef fajitas was cut so small that I have honestly had McDonald's French fries that were larger. The "premium" margarita was the exact same house premixed margarita mix with a splash of slightly better tequila added to it. Nothing about it felt premium. Service was disappointing as well. Our waiter barely checked on the food and never really checked to see if we needed refills. Then came the churros. We ordered churros to go. The picture showed churros on a plate with chocolate on the side. What we received was completely covered in chocolate, canned whipped cream, and some kind of strawberry or cherry syrup. Honestly, I have no idea what it was because the red color looked completely unnatural. I asked the waiter for plain churros instead--not the overly Americanized, bastardized version we had just received. Apparently, "plain" meant SERIOUSLY plain. No sugar. No cinnamon. Nothing. At that point, we were done and headed up to pay, only to find out that paying with a card adds almost another $4 as an "admin fee." I sincerely hope that fee is being split with the staff, because believe me, no additional tip was left after this experience. This is not a place I will ever return to. read more

We had a two hour break from an emotionally draining family gathering. It was only 4:00 but we needed to be back by 6 and would miss dinner. We searched Yelp for a nearby restaurant but everything close by wasn't open for dinner yet. We expanded our search a little and found Don Patron. I'm so glad we did. Our large group was seated immediately and served the required chips and salsa (they were unremarkable). It took us a little while to order but once we did, our food was served in a reasonable amount of time. The hubs and I decided to split the carnitas dinner and a side of guac. It's a good thing we split - we couldn't finish the meal. The carnitas were cooked perfectly. The beans and rice were typical of any local Mexican restaurant. The guacamole was simple - avocado, seasoning and I think cilantro and it was delicious. Although we were all stressed, we didn't partake from the large drink menu. Our server was very attentive and quick with drink refills. The prices were pretty reasonable. Since Don Patron is in a strip mall, parking is abundant. I've been visiting Latrobe all of my life and have never found this gem of a restaurant. This, however, was probably my last trip to the area, I have no one left to visit. My daughter and I were in town for the weekend and saw this place was within walking distance. We both love Mexican and had a hankerin' for a margarita too, so we made a midday run for the border. It wasn't crowded since it was between lunch and dinner, so the service was fine and I had a Chile relleno, bean taco, and beans to go with my big ol' jug o' margarita. The salsa was flavorful and the chips were on point, too. The only downside was a septic smell coming from the bathrooms that hit when you walk in the door or use the restroom. Not sure what's up with that or if that's a one off thing...? If I lived local I'd def come back. And hope the septic odor had departed in a timely fashion. read more

Firstly, it's hard to find good Mexican in this part of the country, but everyone loved their meal at Don Patron. Collectively we had enchiladas, burritos, Rancho fries, and rice. The rice was okay. Salsa was very good. Enchilada sauce was good. Chicken was well seasoned. Nothing was over-spicy. The decor was great. We loved the suns especially the Chihully style, glass one. Me and my aunt went to Don Patrons for lunch and we absolutely loved it. The salsa they give you is absolutely delicious. Not too spicy, just the right amount of heat. I decided to order their Huevos Rancheros from their lunch section of the menu. I haven't had Huevos Rancheros before and I am not kidding, when I say, that it was so unbelievably delicious! The eggs were cooked perfectly, the yolks were nice and runny when you broke into them, the beans and rice had a great taste, and you could tell their soft tortillas are homemade and warm. I also really liked that their service was extremely fast and friendly. I would most definitely recommend don patrons to anyone I meet. read more

This is a restaurant that the entire family can agree on to eat at, even picky kiddos. There is something for everyone. The chips and salsa are on point. We love to get the queso fundito. The chorizo in the cheese is so yummy! My kids love the chicken tenders, cheese quesadilla, fries, and of course the fried ice cream is always a hit. Being a Colorado girl, I have a horrible time finding any Mexican or even Tex-Mex food that is decent out east and it breaks my cold heart. From the second I meandered into Don Patrons after a rigorous workout next door (fair I get a reward), I have been hooked! Prices are crazy amazing, chips and salsa that are delivered complimentary are perfect and the menu has something for everyone! I do wish they had a few more spicy options, but no reason to take away a star. The service is always perfect and a lot of fun to practice my Spanish with mi amor Pedro! Someone else mentioned a language barrier, but I haven't noticed as they are all quick to speak English and do very well. I'll miss this place when I leave! read more

Western PA is not known for its Mexican cuisine, but this place sure is a step in the right direction to changing all that. First and foremost, the food is all great. I had their combination plate of one enchilda, one burrito, and one chili relleno. The chili relleno was by far the best I have had. My wife enjoyed their beef and cheese enchilada plate, where her friend finished off the quesadilla offering they have. Service was mostly good and friendly, but I was a disappointed the waiter didn't keep up with our drinks. It took away from the overall experience. This is an updated review. It has been a year since I have eaten at Don Patron Mexican Grill. Our first visit didn't make a very good impression as the service was very erratic and my food wasn't what I had ordered. After finishing some appointments, husband and I thought we would give it another try here for lunch. The restaurant is in the same shopping center but moved into another space, formerly occupied by Chef Mark's Palate. This new location is a big improvement and makes a good impression upon entering. We were greeted and seated in the dining area. This time our server was very attentive, got our orders correct and anticipated our needs ahead of time. The salsa and chips were great. I had chicken enchiladas with the rice and salad. Husband got a seafood burrito accompanied with the rice and salad, also. Everything was delicious and very filling. There were a fair amount of other customers present and they seemed satisfied, too. I look forward to coming here more frequently. read more

A very poor experience this time. I went on Dec 22, with family visiting from out of town. The food was extremely lackluster, the service rushed but the biggest issue? Try to pay/leave. The credit card machines weren't processing at all. Their only 'option/suggestion' (to everyone in line to pay) was to go find an ATM, pay to get cash out, go back and pay them said cash. And for doing all that....they didn't even have the decency to apologize. Offer anything. Take a couple bucks off the bill. ANYTHING. (BTW our bill was nearly $150) But no. So, the food has really gone downhill, service was lackluster but their lack of attention and service for the customer is just disrespectful. I won't be back again and it's too bad, it used to be a decent place. I understand things break, tech can suck at the worst times but the fact they literally didn't care or try do anything at all is just beyond common decency. read more
