Been here twice and already my new favorite! First time, the litmus test: huevos rancheros. Result? Passed with flying colors: fresh squeezed OJ, home made tortillas, nice sauce... even the potatoes tasted like potatoes; and not the prevalent frozen industrial spud we have become accustomed to. We walked here from our townhome down the street to try this new place. I had the rajas & queso tamale, a pork w/green sauce tamale and horchata. My boyfriend had the chicken and green sauce enchilada plate with a Mexican Coke. The food was served quickly and it was delicious! The owner (I believe) was very friendly and attentive. So yummy. I was looking for a casual, cheap place to get lunch and this was perfect. From the outside it's easy to miss and SUPER modest looking but it's much lore appealing inside. Their menu is great sized and has so many vegan options. I'm not even used to having so many options. The man at the register was super nice and guided me to the Mexican breakfast with pinto beans, eggs, potatoes and tortillas. I also got coffee, the esquites corn and a jalepeno and cheese tamale. I've been there twice and I had great traditional Mexican food every time. Everything is here is extremely inexpensive. I means a quesadilla for $3.95???? The tamales are some of the best that I've had, get there early for the pork and chicken because they run out quick and rightfully so. Also the empanadas are another fav of mine. What a disappointing experience. I was craving for a mom and pop Mexican restaurant experience with good wholesome original recipe, I saw this establishment's review and pictures. When I arrived, I saw mostly non-Hispanic patrons in the seats and a red flag went up but thought I would taste the food to be the judge. This place was an insult to Mexican food as tamales were dry and falling apart without much flavor, the menudo was missing the flavor other than tasting like meat cooked in salty water, the line served with it was sliced so thin so you couldn't get enough flavor inside already soulless soup, and the al pastor taco meat was as dry as jerky. I'm thinking that the reviewers of this restaurant was bought as I see them showing up as sponsors on Yelp. We ruined our appetite and went to another restaurant. The owner told us that their food is Mexico City style and for people who eat other style don't understand it. It has nothing to do with style, there was no soul in your food and your fake advertisement and bought out reviewers. If you know good Mexican food don't go there as your money could be spent elsewhere! P.S. We only ate the menudo and returned the rest of the other food. It was inedible. I recently moved from Chicago to TX and to be honest, finding a good Mexican spot has been a struggle. I came across Tamales Don Pepe, which had great reviews, so I just had to try it. I got a sope Pepe and black bean with cheese tamale. My SO got the scrambled eggs platter with chorizo and a green chicken tamale. We also shared some churros. First off, the sope and scrambled eggs platter were very delicious. Flavor was amazing and everything was fresh. The tamales, they were ok for my liking. I personally liked the green chicken tamale better, since it had more flavor compared to the bean with cheese one. I disliked that the tamales were basically wet, was falling apart, and I expected to have more sauce in the tamale. I'm picky about my tamales, I don't like them dry but I don't like them wet like these. The green chicken tamale came with a tomatillo salsa, but it didn't pair well with it. Now for the churros, it was amazing. I'm usually not a big fan of churros, but I know I'm going to be craving these churros in the future! It was perfectly crunchy on the outside. Warm, airy, and had a "melt in your mouth" effect on the inside. Overall, this place is definitely worth going to. It is a solid 5, but the only reason I rated 4 stars was because of the tamales. Everyone was very welcoming and nice. This is my new spot for authentic Mexican food. read more

I've been wanting to try this place after seeing all the great reviews. I got beef fajita tacos, chicken tamales with green sauce, and beef fajita quesadillas. The beef fajita had excellent flavor. The tortillas were warmed properly so they had a great lightly crisp texture. The quesadillas and tamales were very good also. I just wish I remembered to ask for cilantro and onion instead of lettuce in the tacos. They were still very good though. Personally I prefer the red sauce over the green as the green sauce had too much lime for my tastes. Everything tastes freshly made and the place is clean!
