Beware of what's in your food if you eat here. I left Goode Company Seafood with a cracked tooth after biting into a hard foreign object in my meal and needed dental treatment. After multiple calls and emails over several weeks, someone finally called and offered me a gift card. A cracked tooth isn't worth a gift card. The way this was handled was disgusting. My big family (12 people) came after a funeral's service without reservation and the restaurant was extremely accommodating with making sure we have good seatings and even adjusted it for us. I got the Campechana Extra (shrimp & crab) $20 - 5/5 My mother got the mesquite grilled salmon and was highly disappointed from how dry the fish was. She didn't want to complain so she just ate it. My partner got the fried shrimp AND THAT WAS DELICIOUS! The sauce that came with it was chef's kiss. Service was top notch, I forgot his name (sorry) but none of our drinks EVER went empty! We have been wanting to try this spot for quite some time because we live close by. Finally made it in and it was worth the wait! I love the seafood with a little TexMex/southern flair. The vibe is nice with train compartmant theme with the counter and watching the raw seafood being prepared. The only thing missing is some music. Because it is bit of small space, I definitely could hear the conversations of those around me. Decided to try this place while visiting Houston for the first time. The staff? They were great, loved the interactions we had with everyone who visited our table. The ambiance was nice, felt very diner (a little weird for a seafood place, but no other complaints!) The food was delicious! Fresh and full of flavor. This ceviche was okay! It has a very sweet twang to it. I wish there was more crab, but I loved the fresh avocado. The chips were hot and fresh. The stuffed combo was very sub par given the competition out there for it. I figure while visiting home, I'd love to try more staples such as Goode company, which is an institution to some. WOW was I happy to find out they had crab fingers today. After picking my brother up at the airport we headed straight here. Not only do I love fried crab fingers, but so does my brother. We had dinner here on Sunday 3/30 around 4pm as we wanted seafood and the cool train exterior caught our eyes as we drove by. The reviews were also great so we had high hopes. It's built inside an old Amtrak train carriage and the inside feels like a lovely diner. Our server was very nice but it was only her second day on the job and she was not very familiar with the menu. Since we both wanted oysters and the mesquite grilled oysters sounded amazing we decided to order a couple of them. When it arrived, it looked very impressive and I was pretty excited to dig in. Unfortunately, it was not good at all and all I could taste was the overly strong romano cheese. Could not taste any garlic or herb butter at all and ended up dousing the oysters in hot sauce to get some flavor. We also ordered the fried catfish platter that came with an empanada, garlic bread, and seasoned fries. The catfish was bland and really needed seasoning. Empanada was pretty dry and did not even taste like an empanada at all. The seasoned fries were I credibly salty and I got tired of dusting the salt off of each fry. It was such a disappointing meal:( Hubby and I both agreed how our local fast food fish restaurant back home has much better food at half the cost. Anytime I don't take a picture, understand I ate all of it before I could show you all how good it was. Shrimp PO boy divine, red fish dip, divine, the flipping MESQUITE OYSTERS DIVINE. What a spectacular place, the environment to eat the food was similar to any seafood place I've been except authentic and pretty. Service was exceptional, that goes from the hostess and host to our wonderful waiter. If you come here and DONT get the shrimp po boy, might as well go home and chalk it up as a missed experience. We came by for Good Friday lunch. We enjoyed the meal and service was efficient. I felt the bisque was too rich but everything else was tasty. The onion rings were really good. The side onion rings and the appetizer onion rings are different products. Both are good but the app option were better in my opinion. The poboys were good although being from Louisiana it's disappointing to have so few shrimp on a Poboy. There's a funny story behind the restaurant. I believe there are two brothers both missing one leg opposite of each other (see the pic). We had 2 orders of grilled oysters as it sounded amazing and the fried catfish platter. The catfish was good but was not a fan of the grilled oysters as they don't really have any flavor other than cheese. We also tried their BBQ next day and it was pretty good. We ordered For Pickup 6 Medium Rare Salmon Filets & 4 Gumbos. Salmon filets were terrible Dry & Over cooked. Texture kinda powdery. I had called restaurant around 1, talked to gal asking if any sauce or crabmeat for fillets & She said No. But a sauce wouldn't have masked the over cooked salmon. The Bread was hard. Why am I just now visiting this place?? My gawd today the food was good! Also the have an abundance of parking! This restaurant is partly constructed from an old train. You have to climb stairs to get in and they have a ramp. I will say it is a lot bigger inside than I anticipated. Any who our server was great and attentive. My friend and I each trialed an appetizer both were the bomb.com. We ordered the smoked redfish dip and was perfection! I've had a smoke fish before and it was a no. But this one was excellent. We also tried the reddish beignets, tiny but mighty. They were so good and nothing like an actual beignet. I ordered the shrimp etoufee and my friend ordered the fried catfish. The catfish was fried perfectly not over or under. The etoufee was really good and it came with garlic bread perfection. We ordered the chocolate sheet cake which came with ice cream! If you have lived in Houston for a good amount of time, you should know the Goode Company name. They've been around in the Houston area since the late 70's and have built up a little local empire with BBQ, seafood, and Mexican food just to name a few. They started off with the BBQ and in the 80's they opened up this restaurant which is very unique. They converted a passenger train into a restaurant. The train itself has a diner like feel with 4 top tables along one side and bar top seating off to the other side. I came here on a lunch date and was able to get seated right away without a reservation. Customer service was good from start to finish. As you can guess by the name of the place, they specialize in seafood with a little Gulf Coast Cajun flair. We were starving and decided to share a bowl of seafood gumbo to start with. This was a well executed gumbo. When I see a gumbo that comes out light in color I know it's going to be bad. This was nice and dark and you could tell they let that roux cook. The seasonings were on point and there was a generous amount of shrimp and crab inside. It was also served with delicious garlic bread. They actually serve garlic bread and shrimp empanadas with almost everything which I am not mad about. I am a garlic bread fanatic. For my entree, I ordered the fried shrimp and shrimp etouffee combination plate. It came with a mound of seafood rice as well. It was an enjoyable meal, but the fried food could've used a little more seasoning in the batter. The etouffee was solid and paired well with the delicious rice. My date got the mesquite grilled catfish fillet. I'm not a big catfish guy, but this was really good. I can't remember if it was a special request or not, but it was topped with shrimp etouffee as well. Great dish. We also shared some hushpuppies just because. I can't say I've ever had bad hushpuppies. Everyone knows Goode Company pecan pies are elite, so we got that to go to satisfy our sweet tooth. If you haven't been yet, check it out. The empanada that comes with the mesquite grilled entree, wow. I had low expectations but it was stuffed perfectly and incredibly flavorful. I tried the catfish and seafood rice and the catfish is underwhelming in flavor. It was pretty bland but I prefer that than something drowned in oil and salt. She ended up not being our server and that is the reason she was so phenomenal!!! The Ac was blasting in part of the restaurant and we ended up getting seated at one of tables under the AC. Before we even sat down, Annie immediately saw that we were cold and asked if we wanted to be at a warmer table. She moved us to another table but it turned out not to be her table anymore. For a server to give up her table for the comfort of the customer before they even ask is absolutely amazing. Her unselfishness was so noticeable and we're so appreciative. Such a kind heart. We have eaten here many times over the last 15 years or so, so I have a pretty good frame of reference. In general, we like the seafood, drinks, service, and casual diner atmosphere. The Campechana and Rita's are great. However, Seafood is expensive--but we understand that. So we kind of go back and forth between being happy after eating here, or feeling like we paid way too much. Today was a "paid way too much" day. I got three small, thin pieces of grilled flounder filet over a corn sauce with one side for $34.00. I'd guess it was 4-5 oz. Of fish, max. There were a couple of bones in it. Hubby got grilled snapper for $38 and it was the same story. They would not let us swap out the shrimp empanada (which we don't care for) for another side. You can ask not to serve it, but that's just a freebie for them. No substitutes. We got 3 margaritas, two fish entrees, one dessert: $125 plus tip. Conclusion: Not worth it. read more
