Best tacos in Fresno, no other place compares. I always get Al Pastor, Asada, and Carnitas

It was taco Tuesday and I had a hankering. Since this is around the corner from where I live, it seemed like a good method as I didn't want to drive across town, to stop in here. I didn't end up getting tacos. I ended up ordering nachos; this Don Pepe's has a drive-through which makes it super convenient when you're just beat and want to grab something and go home. and the nice thing about their nachos is that you can get whatever meat you want on them. I really love Carne Al Pastore, or Adovado, the marinated pork that's grilled. It was delicious. For around $11 I got a heaping bunch of nachos with cheese and meat. Salsa on the side is included. They were kind enough to top it with onions which I requested. It was really enough meat serving for two people. Fabulous. read more

We made out order on the intercom and we Got the receipt with the order. It was supposed to be the shrimp a la diabla, a quesadilla and an order of beans. When we got home to our surprise we were missing the beans and the quesadilla. My daughter was so disappointed. They were couple of times that they missed things. We should've checks before leaving. This is so frustrating because they are already closed for the night. Food it's always good. But the disappointment of not getting what we order it's very difficult. read more

After soccer practice, Came here to the South Fresno location and the salsa bar is bigger and nicer. The food is pretty consistent my tripas burritos was delicious and my daughter enjoyed a shrimp burrito. It's clean and has a lot of space to dine in as well. The service is fast per usual and I just enjoy the consistency that Don Pepe gives. The only thing is that the carne asada is DRY. I hope they change that out soon. read more

This last visit is probably going to be my last visit. The first time I got tacos and burritos from here I was very satisfied but the last couple of times I've been grossed out with how much fat and nerves the meat has had. The quality of the food has gone out the door while the prices have been steadily rising. After cringing from paying a large amount and barely eating a few bites I regretted my choice. The folks were nice, but nice doesn't keep me as a customer. I should've known by the recent reviews that I would not be satisfied. Oh well. On to the next taco place. read more

A friend of mine told me about this place, I usually pass it up but today I said let's try it!!... There Spicy shrimp with chicken Burrito was delicious, and long .. but it was spicy as hell you DO NOt need salsa for it But maybe some Lemon, that's it though The lady at the window was nice and gave out extra condiments. read more

I'm sorry to the nice people here, but this was an absolute waste of $20 and our time. First off, how do you call this Pastor!? It was chewy stringy fat! No flavor from the meat or anything in the burrito. Needed the green sauce just to even have a tiny bit of flavor! Threw my burrito cause I couldn't stand trying to power through eating it anymore! I love the food but the service was awful, the cashier had a rude attitude not very nice. If she doesn't like her job she should find another if your in customer service be courtesy. I ordered breakfast burritos to give this place another shot after one disappointing experience. Unfortunately, the beans lacked flavor and so did the carnitas. I don't usually cook with lots of salt and even this was too bland for me. The service is hit or miss. This is my to go place when it comes down to eating Garnet Asada tacos. I usually go to the one on Blackstone that one is the best in my opinion I came into this one. The store is very clean hallways the floor is everything. Maybe it's the cook I have no idea but usually when I come in I order One of the tacos and the meat is just steaming hot with verse of flavor and it taste like grilled beef, not imitation but real beef this time. Unfortunately the taco wasn't sizzling huh and the meat it could definitely use salt and this is the first time ever that I'm actually Eating a taco that I need to put some meat in. I mean some salt I rarely ever have to do that, but who knows Lil off today but I gave them four stars anyways this is kind of chewy too and it taste overcooked. Maybe that's why other than that customer service was very Sweet and the salsa were on point. Fast service especially for only being open for a week! Line is to the back. Doesn't take long to put in your order and doesn't take long to receive your order if you're just ordering tacos. My botana didn't come out until 20 minutes after my family's tacos came out. People who just ordered their spicy botana are receiving theirs within 5 minutes. By the time I get mine, my daughter is almost done eating. They were very apologetic. But I don't think the tickets should be pulled and thrown away until every item is completed. The food tastes as great as the one on Herndon and the one on Blackstone. So happy we don't have to drive all the way across town anymore! Service is great too! Restaurant was nice and clean. I had this for lunch today with my family and honestly it was probably one of the worst places I've been to, the portions were great but the flavor lacked, I had asada tacos with beans and rice the asada had a good grilled flavor but had no seasoning. My brother had the torta and also just lacked in flavor. So very plain. The only thing that actually was delicious was the beans and rice. The restaurant itself is tacky, the atmosphere wasn't anything great it is very black and white, with hand written notes which were unappealing. The service was mediocre, the cashier seemed irritated we took a couple minutes to decide on what we were having (it was our first time and last to say the least) The soda machine also tasted like mildew, like they never clean the spouts. The restaurant looks really nice and has a very contemporary open concept with lots of space. That's probably made you want to run away because what authentic Mexican restaurant feels like that? Lol. In my opinion, Don Pepe is a classic Fresno staple. My first time here since they've opened this location in my hood and the food tastes just like it does at the other locations. Complete nostalgia with my first bite! They've got their classic salsa bar and i love their salsas. The pico wasn't as good as it usually is but honestly, I love Don Pepe so much and coming here really hit the spot. The burrito i ordered was even bigger than the other locations! And i love how they wrap their tacos. Consistency was a hit for me! I couldn't even tell I wasn't at my favorite location. Can't wait to return when I need my fix. And they've got a drive thru. TL;dr decent burritos, good tacos The tacos here are PACKED with meat! Such a great flavor. The burritos here are aight, the top of the burrito has great flavor and meat but as you go down the meat was drier and seemed older. Honestly would come for the tacos but I'd probably pass on burritos. read more

I praise this place for consistently having great food and very quick turnaround. The shrimp diabla is amazing every time. My wife is a little more than mad they took the sopas off the menu. It was her very favorite item. My kids love the tacos, and the super nachos. I've come with friends for the beer. The beer should be reviewed separately. It's a little experience worth having. The staff is always friendly. It has everything we look for in a taco shop. Except sopas. read more

I had not wanted to try any location of this small local chain since my first experience was not so good with their original location. A friend of mine brought a veggie burrito for me from here and I was pleasantly surprised. Since then I have been back multiple times. The place itself is nice they took over the old Steak and Shake which to me is part of the appeal. Its open and bright and updated. I get either their veggie burrito or nachos. I try and go on week days though because the weekend cook makes the burrito all rice so it's not consistent. Their horchata is usually pretty good too. Their portions are pre good as well. read more

Conveniently located by Wal-Mart, I decided to stop by the drive thru and I was actually surprised of how the service and the food turned out. Upon arrival at the speaker I was greeted the lady that took my order was very welcoming and friendly. I ordered a carne asada super burrito which consisted of meat, cheese, rice, beans and avocado. There was three cars ahead of me but didn't wait long to pay and get my order. I literally ordered, paid and got my food in less than 5 mins. When you pull up to the second window you can see the workers and the food being prepped, thought that was interesting. The worker that handed my food, asked if I wanted salsa and I said yes, and he said it's all in the bag. I got home and opened the bag and I was pleasantly surprised that they gave all the condiments. There was 4 different types of salsa, lemon, onions and cilantro included. The super carne asada burrito was a good size, delicious and very filling. The avocado was fresh. My only complaint is the fact that the onions and cilantro was placed on the side. Luckily, I wasn't on a lunch break or eating in the car because it could be quite difficult to open the burrito and add all the sides to it. I wish they had just added the cilantro and onions in the burrito it would definitely be much less of a hassle opening it back up hoping it would seal the way it did the first time. COVID-19 phase: Drive-thru taken with my mother. Workers are masked and masks are required. She ordered a chicken super burrito for me, but asked if they could make it into a bowl w/the flour tortilla on the side. She also ordered the same for herself, but with a combination of Asada and chicken with the flour tortilla on the side as well. She also asked for extra veggies, jalapeños and hot sauce. The line was long! It moved pretty quickly! The worker was very kind and welcoming. We waited a short amount and the food was given and we left to go enjoy it. The chicken burrito bowl was scrumptious! Amazingly delicious! I put the hot sauce and jalapeños given on it to make it even better! Plus the flour tortillas are homemade and fantastic! Chicken cooked perfectly! Great pinto beans and rice! It had so much flavor! Yum! Plus you get A LOT! Two meals! ;D My mother thought hers was fresh with a lot of flavor too! Carnitas was really good. Food was great! I had a tostada. Only complaint was the styrofoam plates were hard to cut the tostada on.

Asked my burrito to be extra grilled after rolling. That didn't happen either.then the cheese that's included with the super, they forgot to put inside. The sauce was very good. Went thru the drive thru last night. I liked the ceviche. It was fresh, flavorful and a generous portion. Unfortunately i absolutely hated the fish tacos. The drive thru at this location is very quick and efficient. When i went, the drive thru ordering booth wasn't operating so they just had us order straight from the first window. Food is so good! Don Pepe Taqueria is probably one of my favorite go-to spots whenever I find myself in Fresno. The portions are huuuge and the prices are unbeatable for what you're getting. For meats, I've only tried the al pastor and lengua, but both are delicious. I personally like the lengua slightly more because they make it well here.. chunky, juicy pieces and plenty of it!! I also highly recommend their fish or shrimp tacos. Can't go wrong with those. Especially recommend the spicy fish and spicy shrimp tacos. They're not spicy at all to be honest with you but I find them slightly more flavorful than the regular ones! They're served on flour tortillas and they're steamed/grilled rather than fried and battered like many other places serve them.
