We haven't been to Don Zarape 2 in a few years. Today for lunch we were trying to decide what we had a taste for and we decided on fish. The Mojarra Fritas (tilapia) is always banging!! Fried and seasoned to perfection!! It was great seeing some of the same employees working there. Service was great. During lunch there wasn't many folks there so we go a table really quick. We got waters, chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. They have some of the best salsa in town! We love patronizing small businesses and not chains. I'm glad this place survived Covid. It's small but tables are always clean and and environment is always welcoming. They have two big screen TV's as well. Can't wait to visit again. read more

My mom and dad like to eat hear occasionally when they want a dish mom doesn't want to cook. I ordered a torta and a burrito de machaca. Both were pretty big and enjoyable. Good in size they added jalapeños for spice. Everything was fine but average. Great for a quick meal. read more

One of my favorite spots to grab caldo de res or abondigas. Their tacos always hit. I'm so lucky my stepdad is Mexican so he takes me to all the good spots. The ladies are super friendly and give great service! Their corn tortillas are made in house and so good. The store is cute and has tvs on both ends of the store, one in english, one in spanish. Only ordered a large Camarones de Cockteil and a lemonade. $30.00. The shrimp were small and not cleaned. The only ingredients were some small pieces of avocado and very small shrimp. Definitely the worst prepared Mexican shrimp cocktail I've ever had. I poured all of the red salsa that you get with the chips along with ketchup and some lemon (no lime) but there were no other vegetables present. And the lemonade was definitely from powder, but cost six dollars. It tasted terrible so yeah in my neighborhood but I'm never going back. The waitress was very nice. read more

I love the food here, tonight I ordered again for the second night in a row. Unfortunately my order was wrong but they were kind enough to replace the wrong item. Unfortunately when I did get to eating the caldo the res I ordered, both of them were wrong as well. They were chicken. Lesson learned, I will do my best to check my order right there. The portions are enough to keep you full and definitely still have some left over food to take home. Price: BE AWARE!! their food prices are definitely overpriced comparison to other Mexican restaurants around this neighborhood (example: large side of beans cost $12.99 Rice $12.99 menudo $18.99 whole asado chicken $28.99, bottle coke $5.00 & horchata $5.99) they are definitely overpricing their items without having actual prices on their menu's and this is a strategy many restaurants use to charge you more without you knowing the prices. We paid over $88.00 for those items and we thought it was way too pricey if you asked me. I'm usually the type of customer to support local businesses specially in my neighborhood but this was definitely the last time I give this restaurant my business. It is with great sadness that I write this review. In fact, I slept on it to make sure my spirit was right. I take pride in writing positive reviews. You can check my record. A couple of days ago, I ordered a Chicken Enchilada Combo Plate and was sorely displeased. It was clear to me that the rice was mixed with old rice. This made my entire plate suspect. The black beans come with a broth so more than likely, Don Zarape can mix old and new beans easily as well. I stopped dining here before because not only did I discover this mixing problem (at least two times) before, but I can link one of my COVID episodes directly to Don Zarape. What brought me back was their Chilaquiles which are to die for. No one to date has made Chilaquiles any better. If I do return, I will not purchase anything including rice or beans because I have been burned three times now. I hated to write this but somebody had to do it. read more

I tried Don Zarape's food a few weeks ago and went back for seconds this past week. It was that good. When you pull into the parking lot, they're grilling carne asada, pollo and chorizo links and the smell is amazing! Of the food I've tried, the carne asada plate with shrimp is amazing, I had them custom make a chimichanga with carne asada, which was really good, the nachos.... Wow! If you're hungry the serving of nachos will easily feed several people. I saw another person's post of people being rude, I find quite the contrary. The people that work here are really pleasant. The food is great, they take their time making it for you so it's perfect. These days, unless you go to a fast food establishment, it's tough to feed a family of 5 quality food for under $100 bucks.... Don Zarape delivers both quality and authentic Mexican food to those who appreciate it. If you haven't tried it, try it! You'll be glad you did! read more

They said she thought I said another burrito I don't even know the name of. I wanted the sour crème and avocado on the top Like the picture. Chicken wet supreme burrito. I'm SO DISAPPOINTED with the shrimp ceviche I ordered last night. It was tasteless and thrown together. It was like they opened a can of crushed tomatoes, threw the juice in a bowl, some of the tomatoes, (not enough), tried to chop up some cucumbers, added some chopped onions and avocado and then a lot of whole pieces of shrimp, with no seasoning whatsoever. This place is disgusting. I should've known when I walked in the door. Not a single customer. I ordered an asada burritos. It was ready in 1 minute. I bit into it the food was literally room temperature. The food all tasted old and stale. The meat was hard and very dry. I threw it away after a couple bites and my stomach hurt a couple hours later. Do not buy food from here. I don't know how they're still in business. read more

Stopped by Don Zarape today for lunch with a few coworkers. Everyone here felt like family! We were greeted and seated immediately when we arrived. Tables are placed quite closely together in the restaurant but it wasn't too busy so we sat in the corner away from other tables. As we sat down, iced water, chips, and salsa were placed on the table alongside a couple menus. We ordered the wet burrito, al pastor tacos, enchiladas and a plate of half chicken with chorizo. The food arrived really quickly. Everyone was happy with their orders. I got the al pastor tacos and it tasted like their corn tortillas were made fresh. Extremely tasty. They also offer horchata and agua Fresca drinks that are ready to go. My coworkers and I are appreciative to have this gem so close to our workplace. Expect to see us there again! read more

I Order The Garlic Butter Shrimp the rice and beans where supper flavorful & come with handmade tortillas the shrimp was pan seared which gave it nice crunch but flavorful bite with alot of fresh fried garlic made it to good I enjoyed my meal I took left over home nice serving size I would be back I also got an agua de Jamaica , it needed more sugar in my liking but it was so refreshing on a hot day I would definitely come back to try different food in the menu read more

Every time i drive up from San Diego to visit my daughters, I always stop by Dons for one whole grilled chicken meal with corn tortillas, rice, beans, and salsa and chips. I am very disappointed with this place. I ordered two breakfasts this morning, and the food was completely overcooked--the meat was dry, the beans were dry--and I was shocked that a breakfast plate costs $22, as if it were a high-end or more sophisticated restaurant. Im disappointed and shocked when I paid $44 for two plates, considering the place doesn't deserve it. Went here for pick up and we ordered their chicken barbeque first. Their grilling station outside was what made us go inside and order. We already came from the other store to pick up japanese food and we saw this guys barbecuing outside. Smeeled so good so we were tempted to try it. Theyre soooo good! Came to eat at a restaurant next door Aki Shabu with my siblings but found out how expensive it was so we ate next door at Don Zarape Mexican and Seafood. What an amazing find. Rosie up. We loved the food but we are surprised how amazing the service was. A++ on service. We tried a variety of dishes but the soups are amazing! Albondigas, caldo de pollo, caldo de res all served boiling hot. We got carne Asada plate w grilled shrimp, Chile relleno plate, enchiladas, and the chips and salsa.... So good chips newly made still hot. Great presentation. We usually go to Salsa and Beer but will come here instead just for the service and great food. Surprised by how dirty the inside is. The smells from the outside cookers are amazing but I was disappointed once I stepped inside. I will give benefit of the doubt and hope that the cleanliness issue was due to a lunch rush and they didn't have time to clean up before I arrive. One can only hope. There is also no salsa bar - another disappointment whether it's dine in or take out. They were also out of tamales. Had the Huevos con Tocino breakfast plate. Eggs with bacon, rice, beans, and tortillas for $6.50 (tax included). The plate had a lot of food and was really fresh and good. This place also has a nice selection of seafood plates and home made Mexican dishes that range from about $9 to $11. The server was very friendly and worked fast. One of my favorite mexican places in NoHo! I come here frequently and really love their veggie burrito. The place is usually not too packed and the food comes out quickly and efficiently! The staff is always quite friendly! My only critique is that, 10% of the time, I get what I call an "off burrito"--one that just isn't amazing like it usually is. This is my favorite place for a veggie burrito nonetheless because when it's on point, it's unbelievable! read more
