Cute little spot! I tried the beef (carne molida) empanada and the "Pabellon" (carne, beans, platano y queso). It all taste good and the empanadas are huge (that's what she said lol). I was a bit disappointed with the beef empanada because it seem to not have enough beef. The pabellon is very filling and had more beef along with everything else. I ordered a all natural mango juice which was good as well. I paid $11.30 for the three items, kind of costly for empanadas. I think the juice was about $4. Oh yeah, try the white sauce! read more

Super delicious empanadas with a really amazing, unexpectedly diffferent crust. These empanadas are HUGE! Two empanadas make for a filling meal. The dough is a very different type of dough like nothing I've never had. Soft inside and crispy outside. I had the panela de empanada de platano y queso. It was slightly sweet, salty, and just plain yummy! I The downside is that the empanadas were definitely greasy, but luckily it didn't compromise the crispiness. I also tried the empanada de carne mechada which was also really yummy. The marinade was super flavorful and also had a nice sweet/salty thing going on. I would definitely recommend going to try this place. It's worth the drive, which was actually surprisingly pleasant. This part of Doral is like falling off of the face of the planet, lol--cows, gigantic houses, etc, lol. I highly recommend trying the Pannela drink, which is made from panela/piloncillo, lime, and water. It tastes like a really delicious sweet tea. read more

I had come here long ago and the first thing I noticed was that it is completely remodeled; much more modern, cleaner and nicer. I was next door running some errands in the morning and decided to grab a quick empanada to-go. Being Venezuelan, I can NEVER turn down an empanada. I immediately checked-in and was happy that it had 10%, however, the girl at the front said they were not granting it since it's from the old owner; bummer. She went on to explain that the old owner does not want to give them the Yelp password and does not return their phone calls and whatnot- turned me off completely. Anyhow, the empanada de pollo was okay. To my surprise, it was not too greasy (thankfully) and had the right amount of chicken inside, but it felt re-heated and not too fresh for being early in the morning. I most probably would not come back because I feel I've had better in the area, but I didn't entirely hate it, so who knows... Word of advice: do not tell your clients too much information. This may be the best Venezuelan style empanaderia in Miami so far. I haven't had one better yet. The yellow corn crust for the empanada was thin, not too thick, and the stuffing was plentiful and delicious in the pabellon. It is an affordable place, but I thought some empanadas might be a bit pricier than it should be - in particular the one with cheese although it wasn't just any cheese. Empanadas here are so crispy and delicious , made to order, they have great combinations. My favorite are the sweet plantains with cheese(I love the taste of sweet and salty), and my second favorite is the Pabellon one, it has sheared meat, black beans and sweet plantains, it may sound weird, but is sooooo delicious!!, . They cost approx. $5 depending on the type of empanada you get, but one will fill you up. Also they serve authentic Venezuelan breakfast, drinks, and a variety of products. Being born and raised in Mexico I didnt have too much exposure to Latinamerican food other than Argentinean, but when I arrived to Miami I really began to explore the different flavors from Central and Soouth America and of the things that I found the most amazing was how we are so interconnected and how food in some ways are so similar, so my loved with the underworld of fried food from (specially Colombia and Venezuela) began. And then, then somebody took me to this strip mall hole in the wall, with the MOST AMAZING Venezuelan empanadas in the world, why I loved them so much, well, first of all any food that is fried...tastes good, but secondly because this fried Venezuelan empanadas remindend me so much Mexican REAL quesadillas, not the cheddar flour tortillas you order at Chilis, you cant really find them here in Miami, and they are practically the same, fried corn dough with a sort of stuffing. So make your self a favor, and stop eating those burgers or fried chicken as a comfort food, give this hidden gem a try. I really recommend the one with beef and cheese, and the best one; the one with plantains. And dont forget to have an Agua de Panela instead of a coke, its basically Limeade. read more

First- it's a small place in a strip center and I had several choices for dinner. You place your order at the counter and then pick it up. I ordered the ground bees empanada. After all, I came for the empanadas. When I tried to order an arepa, I was told the empanada was very big. It was. I love fried food and what is not? This was good!! A little oily but good. After all, fat makes food taste good. The juice selection was wonderful. The spicy sauce and garlic sauce a great combination. The ambiance with the lighting was cheap looking but what the heck? Definitely the best empanadas ever! Fresh, super crunchy and tasty, empanadas are little bit sweet which I completely love. You can't leave without trying the Jugo de Parchita (passion fruit juice), you might find it pricy but is totally worth it, prices are very reasonable. I ordered something that they usually don't do: an empanada operada with plátano, and they still did it for me and it was out of this world. La encargada de atender a la clientela esta de mal humor, hice mi pedido (muy simple) pues es un sitio que vende empanadas. Pedi 6 empanadas para los adultos y 2 raciones de mini empanadas de queso para mis hijos. Se supone que siempre la comida de los ninos sale primero. Despues de entregarnos nuestras empanadas, demoraron mas de 15 min en entregar la de los ninos y trajeron 1 sola orden, despues de 10 min traen la segunda orden de empanaditas sorpresa eran todas de carne y no de queso como se habian pedido. Cabe destacar que el lugar estaba vacio cuando llegamos por ende fuimos los unicos en ser atendidos en ese momento....aún estoy esperando las empanadas de mis hijos. The empanadas are really really reeeeally good... However, they are very pricy. I can get an empanada just across the street at La Pergola for 2.50 and here they are charging around 3.15 for a basic empanada. They have increased the prices about 5 times already. I mean, I know they have to make money, but I think it is too much for an empanada. The portions of the other dishes are not that big either for the price. At least everything is tasty :) read more

I read reviews for this restaurant and since I had not had an empanada (venezuelan style) in such a long time and was visiting the Miami area I felt I had to go. The empanadas are good but they are too greasy and need to be drained before presenting to customers. When you bite into it all this grease comes out. Also, if you purchase to go, the bag is drenced in grease. Service is also slow. Because of the grease factor I would rate ok. I recently had the opportunity to return to this restaurant only to be disappointed again. First, service is extremely slow. They take your order and just stare at you or into space for 15 to 20 minutes. Sometimes the person at the counter can disappear for darn near the entire time...so you just wait and watch the flat panel tv that usually has Global Vision on. They do not try to make conversation. We usually order to go. Second, when the food comes it is drenched in grease. I give up. I thought it would be different this time. I guess I will have to make my own empananadas! read more

Well, since I was in Doral (on the western edge of Miami), I was turned on to La Reina de las Empanadas. If you don't have a vehicle, it may be very difficult to make your way over here. Otherwise, this is worthy of the pilgrimage. This restaurant serves empenadas (the pastry filled treats of Latin America) and Arepas (a sandwich like torta also filled with treats). In my initial tasting, I can say that the empanadas are great but the arepas are ok. I would go hear just for the empenadas. They are a good size (about 6"). One of them is a nice snack. Add a second one, and you'll be full for the rest of the day. The choices are numerous and they are made to order. So, if you're in Miami, try and give La Reina your undivided attention.
