There's about as many donair spots on Davie street as there are strip joints in Vegas. The thing is with these guys.....they're supposed to be specializing in Donairs...right? I mean...."DONAIR DUDE"...it's in the name....some dude that makes donairs...no? Well....I wish he would stop making them. I got the lamb tortilla wrap with pickles, tomatoes, onions, tabouli, hummus and feta. I'll keep this brief. I couldn't taste any of these ingredients....Why? Because there was literally less than 1/2 teaspoon of each portion in the wrap (see pic.) The lamb. Pains me to even say "lamb" as it's one of my favourite meats. All the health designations on their menu.....halal, AAA grade, no antib. etc. throw that out the window. The meat tasted like cardboard soaked in salt water. I stopped eating after a couple of bites cuz my mouth was starting to burn...that's how salty it was. Oh...and the stench of "rip-off" disappears my appetite. Every time. Now the yam fries. Have you ever felt sorry for a food you were about to eat? These fries looked so sad and pathetic that I felt guilty digging in. Chicken rice bowl 8.87/10- this was so delicious, they packed on the amount of fresh chicken they put this bowl on top of rice. We got the donair sauce as well as the tahini sauce (you get to choose 2 out of a few sauces). They had a red pepper sauce that also sounded quite good. They served it with fresh pita bread as well as tabouli salad with olives. The salad was dressed very well I believe in olive oil. The portion size is also huge! Lamb pita wrap 7.32/10- they put a lot of lamb in this gigantic wrap which was nice. The lamb was well seasoned and very fresh. I felt that the wrap was a bit dry even though we added sauces to it and with the ingredients put in it, but it was still good and very filling. They let you choose the toppings for what you want inside the wrap, you can choose from: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, cucumbers, pineapples, banana peppers, pickles, pickled turnips, red cabbage, and tabouli. You also have the option of choosing sauce/spread. French fries 8.78/10- these were incredibly seasoned and so crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Incredibly tasty! Ugh. No more. This was our very fav spot for big healthy, crunchy, meaty and delicious donairs for years. We don't splurge on them often.. we started here when there was the 2 donair with pop special for just over 20 bucks. Huge and delicious. Yesterday was a rude awakening.. the price has gone way up! Now $30 plus tax and tip for 2 regular chicken donairs w/ cheese. BTW, compare that with the $17 pricetag for an extra large pizza next door. Ugh. In addition, they're smaller.. here's a list of changes: -- smaller, skimpy shmear of garlic/pepper spread on pita -- no more lettuce!! It's now replaced with shredded chunky cabbage (gah.. even though there's a produce market 2 doors down with nice heads of lettuce. Omg ) -- everything is in small cubes, we get a small spoonful -- no more lettuce (worth repeating), no red onion, banana peppers, or tabouli as optional fillings -- chicken is about half of quantity that it was previously and server shakes meat off the small spoon so it's not heaping but level, portion control at its best/worst! -- grilled half the time (!) so not at all hot inside and not crispy on outside, though the place was empty and it could have been moved in the press for a second grill as before. What's still same: -- still 2 pitas -- still had some of what we like, and what was there was fresh.. tomatoes, pickles, pineapple, olives, onion, white cheese -- donair sauce, sweet sauce (Halifax), etc. Unnecessary changes and updates which nobody cares about but we obviously are paying more for: -- packaging and brown paper bags with multiple coloured branding -- circle stickers with custom labels that were confusing and placed on the bottom of the sauce bottle dispensers -- new and improved payment system offering customers option to tip 15%, to 25% -- or manually enter dollar amount if you're clever and press the correct buttons. -- three workers, two in back one up front serving me. I was shopping around this area and came upon this little donair place. It's small, but they offer a variety of grilled pita donairs, donair boxes, grilled tortilla donairs, and donair rice plates. It's so mouth watering to see the chicken, beef, and lamb rotate on the rotisserie. The place also carry a few side dishes like hummus, tabouli salad, falafel balls and baklava. The prices are reasonable. If I wanted something quick and I'm craving a donair, this is a nice place to go. I was able to get a beef donair box and customize the topping and sauce on it! read more

The original location. Still the best of the lot. I've had mixed experiences with donair dude. Its all in the person making it. I think they need higher standards for training. Some people pile on the spreads, vegetables, and sauces liberally, and some are shy with it. Obviously, the spreads and the sauces are critical to its flavour. Under new management, at back to the quality it used to be when it started. Quality sized donairs with fresh ingredients. Looks great inside with the new wallpapers and order boards. My only real issue was the ( possible manager ) a couple weeks ago who was up on a ladder and glaring at the staff like a hawk and at us ordering and the people outside the front window ( who I also knew ) He seemed miserable and made me uncomfortable. I dropped into theKitsilano location yesterday, November 28, 2024. I ordered a large felafel pita wrap. It was indeed large! It included several pieces of falafel, unfortunately deep-fried, but very tasty. The theatre was then toasted in a Panini maker and filled with as many vegetables as you want. It was stuffed full! I have never had a pita filled with so many delicious vegetables as well as the falafel. you can order different meats instead of the falafel. A fast, cheap, filling, fresh, "fast food" type of joint located in the heart of Davie St. I ordered the grilled falafel pita. You can customize your toppings (I got their garlic sauce - which is so good, roasted red pepper hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cucumbers, peppers, black olives, pickles, tabouli, and finished it with tahini and hot sauce). Even though I ordered all those sauces, it was a bit dry (I'm pretty sure they missed the tahini and hot sauce). Regardless, the ingredients are fresh and the tabouli goes very well with the rest of the vegetables. The falafels are decent sizes are very filing! It's a hefty meal. We were hungry for a late meal and wandered along Davie. The tantalizing aroma of grilled meat brought us here to Donair Dude. Figured it's worth a try as they were still serving and people still coming and going. I can see they probably mostly do take out. The concept is not unlike a Subway Sandwich shop where you can direct them how to build your pita or whatever by choosing the fillings and sauces to include. The meat is on the rotisserie spit and grilling, but slices are already in bins for building orders. Our food was prepared quickly and we sat at the window so we wouldn't have to wait. It was a lot of food! I managed mine but he couldn't handle it all. The atmosphere is casual and almost divey which is appropriate for the location. Don't trip over the street residents who tend to gather along here. They are generally harmless. For a quick late night bite they were just what we needed. read more

I'd never had donairs before, so I figured I'd come here to try it out, and I wasn't disappointed! Although I asked for a Halifax-style donair and then was asked to build my own, so I don't think what I ate was actually a Halifax-style donair. Who cares - it tasted really good! The basic idea is a pita stuffed with meat and veggies and sauces, all of it folded shut and grilled, kind of in the shape of a calzone. I was worried it would be really breaddy or overfilled with liquid that would drip everywhere, but it was neither - it was meaty and stuffed and all held together well as I ate it, and it tasted delicious. I hot mine with the hot pepper paste, sweet sauce, beef, tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, cucumbers, and feta, and that turned out to be a great combination. A few of the bites were genuinely spicy, but it mostly turned out pretty mild despite me going for the hottest options, but the meat was so nicely seasoned and the whole set of sauces and fillings worked so well together that I didn't care. Donair Dude by far the has the best Donair in Vancouver. This spot is located on Denman St. with street parking available. It isn't a huge place and they only have less than 10 bar type seating so most people just buy their food to-go. Place itself is clean and well maintained. Lines can be quite long at certain times but it is definitely worth the wait. We've tried their donairs, pita with hummus and donair plates and they were all delicious and priced really well too. Their dips and sauces are made really well. I like mixing the hummus, garlic sauce and red pepper sauce together -- sooo good! Portions are huge and very filling. We came in right before close our first night in Vancouver, and this place was awesome- fantastic, friendly service and free samples of sauces and meats. The huge, cheap shawarma wrap for under $10 was enough to feed us both! Ordered this for dinner and oh boy...im stuffed! Everything about this bundle.of joy was a treat. From the size to the filling...absolutely yummy!! Went with the beef and filled it with capers, hit banana peppers, cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes, humus, garlic sauce and donair sauce, and finished with cheddar cheese. Wow! Total food porn in every bite. You know you have it good when the sauce drips down the side of your mouth as you take a bite. The flour pita wrap was tender and held the awesome goodness inside. Came here on the recommendation of a friend, another fellow ghetto-foodie who will hopefully join the ranks of the Yelp Elite one day. Parking here sucks, but try the streets directly S of Davie. The place is coloured a tacky lime green, and really makes one say "Dude". It is boiling hot in here. I feel sorry for the staff. There is an exhaust fan, but thanks to the layout (the fans vent out of the restaurant directly above the front entrance), they're asking for massive amounts of heat. The inside is also so tiny, people are packed in there like sardines. Which adds to the heat, of course. As Kenneth N. mentioned, this place is completely staffed with younger attractive ladies instead of some worn down middle aged guy. It was definitely noticeable. With that said, the place was so loud that they kept messing up our order. First it was the item, then it was the meat, then it was the toppings. I asked for sweet sauce, then watched the girl squirt hot sauce into my donair. No honey, the OTHER sweet sauce. Oh, then they forgot our pop with the order. By that time we had forgotten which staff member originally took our order. Fortunately they sorted things out. They were even kind enough to mark our donairs so we'd know which one was which! As for the food.. The donairs are pretty freaking huge. They are easily double the size of those from other establishments. They also do not skimp out on the meat at all. I was a happy camper. The other piece of advice I can offer is to eat the donairs quickly. They hold the heat very well, but the liquid in the sauces begin to separate within minutes, turning into a puddle at the bottom of the wrap, and getting all over your hands. Would I come back? It used to be good years ago but they have gone really cheap on all AND the taste was so blah so disappointing felt was totally not worth its cost. I can't say I had a horrible plate of chicken sharwma ever in vancouver but this one, I have to say it was horrible. To sum it up: one of the sauces they put on the chicken and rice was sweet and inedible. What kind of sharwma places uses sweet sauce? It tasted more like some sweet Mexican taco sauce. The Greek salad smelt like it has gone bad already and most importantly the chicken was tasteless. The hummus tasteless as well and I can't say the service was good either. Went to donair dude on Broadway for lunch to celebrate my birthday I do not eat much in the way of spices so my donair was quite plain, but that in turn means I get more flavour of the meat, in this case ir was lamb And I sadly have to say that I think the lamb I had also had a birthday that day It was very dry and tasted very old Not unpleasant but definitely not fresh like I have had elsewhere So I feel like the toppings and sauces are merely covering up the actual flavour of the meat, might I also add that it was 11am when I had my donair, and the store opened at 10:30, so I am guessing I was eating the meat that didn't get sold the day or rather night before, and it was obvious to me that that was the case So I give 2 stars, could definitely be a whole lot better, but could also be worse read more

Donair Dude needs to get its Franchises in line with each other. One serves larger portions than the other, another in New West doesn't serve Lamb and the one on Westend won't allow you to have some veggies on meat and fry plates. The Davie St location said they would have to charge extra but gave me a little anyways. The Franchise owners need to address these inconsistencies as it makes for confusing dining. Found this place on yelp back in 2014 and it has been a blessing ever since. Im from seattle so im in Vancouver like 1-2 times a year. This is my must go destination no matter what. The portion is absolutely massive for roughly $6-7USD. You order your food however you like it, and i go with everything. Meat choices include lamb, beef, or chicken, and my top pick is beef, but i always end up ordering 2 of each for the drive back to seattle and for lunch over the next day.
