Another place I had to try during my trip to Birmingham. Is it the best pizza I have tried? No, not even close., To be fair comparing to places like mazzios, Pizza Hut etc I think it better. I had the works mini pizza and bread sticks. Tasty and full of toppings. The crust was very good as well. Worth a stop if you are craving good pizza in a semi quick fashion. I felt the prices were a little high based on what I got. $24 for mini pizza, 2 bread sticks and a drink. No that's not a fair price for this place. I would never order take out for this restaurant. We ordered the pizza for delivery for three people. It showed up over an hour and a half late. The pizza was so small it was not enough for one person. It cost 30 dollars. I went back and looked at the order and it said nothing about the size. The picture looked like a normal large pizza. I have been here quite a few times for take out over the past few months and I find myself saying Donatos often when my wife and I are trying to figure out what to have for dinner on a weeknight. We usually get The Works and have some left over for a snack the next day. The meats have great flavor with that just right amount of spice and the veggies are usually cooked al dente for that cooked but still crisp texture. I have dined in here once and had a great experience. Our party was very comfortable in the booth, we had really friendly service, and the two New Belgium Fat Tires were just the beer to go with our pizzas. Donatos Pizza did not disappoint! I've actually been pretty curious about this place for some time now and would love to try their regular crust pizza once I'm off of my keto diet! However the cauliflower pizza was really good! The best I've had so far! There are still a few places I'd like to try their cauliflower pizza but this place may be a go to for now. The inside is decent. Looks like a normal pizza parlor, like a step up from the normal pizza chains. The pizza was kind of costly but not too bad. We were wanting to get something delivered for dinner and decided on pizza. I'd had Donatos before and it was good. We ordered the food from waitr instead of on yelp as it was free delivery that way versus a 4 dollar delivery to my house. The menus were very different on both apps. For instance the hot chicken pizza was on waitr but not on yelp and a meat lover was on yelp but not waitr. Food arrived and it was good, but not great. I did think that hot chicken pizza was very interesting and I liked it better than the founders favorite. It was kind of pricey for 2 medium pizzas. I actually didn't realize this place existed until we had a Yelp event here once. Looking for something different I suggested this place to a friend and we decided to meet here. Kind of a fast food pizza type of feel when you walk in and see how they are set up (how you order/get drinks/plates/napkins/etc). Plenty of signature pizzas to choose from. We both pretty quickly decided to go with the Founder's Favorite (Peperoni/Sausage/Ham/Banana Pepper). Food came out pretty quick (not too busy) and looked and smelled great. We couldn't have been happier with our choice! The meats were all super flavorful and the banana pepper added a little spice/tart flavor. We both actually liked it so much we kept eating even though we were full. Large would comfortable feed 3 people and there would probably be a little left over. Note: They cut their pizza into little squares...so it kind of feels like you've eaten a lot when in actuality you probably haven't. Also, they have really thin crust and they don't overdue the pizza sauce. Really glad we gave this place a try, looking forward to coming back and trying some other menu items. read more

A friend took me to this place before all hell broke lose due to the global pandemic. I was shocked that I had never heard of it before because it's just THAT good. I'm ashamed to say that I ate my whole half of the pizza in one sitting, which is not something that I usually do. It was perfectly cooked, hot, the sauce was great, and the crust even better. Some of the best pizza I have ever aten. My wife and I split a classic trio -- pepperoni, sausage,and mushrooms. We liked the way the ingredients covered the entire pizza. Had a friend pick up a few pizzas from here and I can confidently say that the pizzas were all super flavorful and of quality ingredients. The crust is thin which for me was a relief trying to maintain low carb. But others may not like it. It's also cut into smaller squares so you feel like you're eating more. This might not be everyone's thing but I loved it. I think we had the veggie and chicken mariachi which had an amazing kick to it with the jalapeños. Apparently they also do personal sizes. If I'm in the Vestavia area, will often pick-up pizza and take to Inverness because it is THE best pizza!

Paid $6 for extra mushrooms and there were at most 3 small slices of mushrooms on each piece. Also paid for extra cheese. Unless there is barely any cheese on a regular pizza, there is no way this would be considered extra cheese or worth the upcharge. They basically kept the extra fees and did not provide the additional ingredients that were paid for. Cant say the pizza was all that great either. Definitely a waste of money. read more

Terrible experience!! Never received order for delivery. Got no refund. Called about 1.5 hours after placing order for delivery (30 minutes after Donato's delivery time in order confirmation). Was told Doordash collected order. Employee explained they use Doordash to make deliveries "on busy nights" because they only ever "have two drivers" available. The use of doordash was not disclosed in order summary emailed by Donato's. Won't go back to Donato's. Suggest you avoid. UPDATE: I went to the location. Was told by store manager that because they involved Doordash to deliver my order, whether I get a refund is up to Doordash. To which I responded, I ordered through Donato's website, not doordash. Let me be clear, yes, I was upset and borderline angry at the fiasco that was ordering delivery through Donato's. I believe justifiably so. BUT, never did I raised my voice or berate the hardworking employees who clearly were struggling to keep up at a newly opened restaurant on a busy night. Ironically, when I arrived at Donato's, happened to get in line behind the doordash driver Donato's called to pick up my order after I called Donato's (30 minutes after scheduled delivery). The driver appears to have arrived at Donato's at about 7:15 pm (1 hour after my order was to have been delivered). Once discovered, I slipped the doordash driver some cash for their effort. He promptly left. I then refused to accept 2 hour old pizza and demanded a refund. Was told I'd have to wait for manager. So I got in another line behind others waiting for refunds. I happened to be last in that line. Once my turn came, the manger clearly was frazzled, upset, and decided to direct that toward me, for having the temerity to show up to the store, 2 hours after I ordered, visibly frustrated, and request a refund. I was essentially informed I had no right to be upset for the shoddy manner Donato's handled my order for delivery. As if it was a privilege to pay for food from what appears to be a third-rate pizza joint. BTW, as I was waiting, I observed the manger on the quality control line, wiping her nose with the back of their hand while holding a kitchen implement. So yeah, think my family and I were lucky in the end! read more

Donatos is in my opinion, the best chain pizza restaurant in the US. I've been ordering delivery every now and then from this location for most of my life, and I have yet to have a negative experience. Today I decided to write a review not only because of the amazing food, but because of how friendly the staff are. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza over the phone, and the person answering the phone was very nice and professional. When the pizza got here, a very friendly older gentleman was there to deliver it to me. I felt bad knowing I gave him only a 30% tip despite him being so nice . I feel like I should've tipped him more. Regardless, I really enjoyed the pizza, and the staff. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone read more

I have been a fan of our local Donatos for years, but I didn't fully appreciate the treasure we have here until I became aware that my niece would drive 125 miles one-way ... (under the ruse of visiting her dear uncle) ... to purchase a Donatos pizza! Since this is the only shop in our area (indeed, in Alabama, I think), we do really have a rare gem in Vestavia. This week I ordered a pizza online and did the "socially distanced" pickup with no issues. Got that warm round of deliciousness on the table and added a salad. A great quick meal for a great price. Yesterday, we decided to get a pepperoni pizza from Donatos for pickup. My Fiancé and I are typically fans of a thin crust pizza, so we were excited to give them a shot. Unfortunately, the pizza that we had left more to be desired. The crust tasted like it was originally frozen or pre-made. The sauce was nothing notable. The pepperoni tasted and looked like it came straight out of a lunchable container. I really wish I could rate them better, but when factoring in the price, you might as well order Godfathers, Papa Johns, or Dominoes.
