Oh, I have such a love-hate relationship with this place. Starting with the positives: this is the place to visit if you're looking for authentic Hunan-style quick stir-fry, similar to Sichuan cuisine in terms of heat but less greasy and oily. Hunan food is also known for its pickled vegetables, a necessity shaped by the region's humidity, which makes food preservation difficult. This restaurant pickles its own vegetables and uses them throughout its dishes. The pickled radishes in the chicken gizzards are sublime. The dish arrived with strong guoqi, that hot steaming air resulting from high temperature pan-frying and it was just salty enough to combine with rice. The same goes for the fermented chilies served with the steamed fish. Now the negatives: the place looks like an old Chinese restaurant that hasn't been renovated since the 1980s. That adds a certain charm, I suppose, but it can also make it harder to fully feel like you're having a "nice dining experience." In addition, they only accept certain types of credit/debit cards, and my Discover card incurs a 2% surcharge. The owner was kind enough not to charge me this time, but it still makes me hesitate about returning. That said, the service is superb, with a real family-run warmth. I came in late at night, close to closing time, but the waitress still checked on me multiple times, asking whether I needed more rice and whether the dishes tasted okay. read more

Accidentally we found this charming authentic Chinese restaurant. Our hostess Mae was hospitable and nice. The food came out piping hot and fast. We ordered stir fried eggplant & green beans which was very good and fresh, beef broccoli was ok but I have had a lot better ones and finally the star of our dinner was fish fillet with chopped pepper (house special) that my husband and I loved. I ordered the sauerkraut fish soup and cured pork with celtuce/asparagus lettuce. The soup was amazing. It isn't the typical sauerkraut made of cabbage, but a pickled mustard green that is used in the soup. It was a perfect combination of sour, spicy, and savory. The fish was super tender and mild-tasting. I didn't get to try my second dish because they delivered spicy pork intestines instead, but holy Toledo! If you're into offal, it was an amazing dish. I couldn't even feel my lips when I was done with my meal. This restaurant was reminiscent of the places I'd eat at growing up in San Gabriel Valley. So yummy! You feel the authenticity when you walk in here. No frills, everyone is super Chinese. We got the fish head, the cauliflower, dry pot with pork intestines, and a kong xin cai. Everything was good and solid. The pork intestines I thought could've been a little more fried and crispy, but still tasty. The best authentic spicy Chinese food in Las Vegas. My friend took me awhile back & I've been addicted ever since. The first time we went it was very spicy but they've since lessen the spice a bit. You can still ask for a higher level if you're up for it. Inside they have large tables for family style dining. My absolute favorite here is the stir fried cabbage. Went here for dine in. It's frequented a lot by Chinese tourists and residents and the food/menu selection is pretty authentic and not Americanized. Got the twice cooked pork: would have liked this to be a bit spicier even though I did ask for extra spicy. The shredded potatoes were pretty decent though. Waiter was friendly and helpful. Our order was for pickup. Which really matters a lot in my review. Some items weren't in stock which was fine, no big deal. Of what we ordered 2 mild General Tso and Pork Chow Mein were available. But we did not receive this the first or second time we went back. What we ended up with: 1. Chicken nuggets and the red chilies mild none of the vegetables listed 2. Chicken nuggets and the red chilies this wasn't medium but it also wasn't Asian hot. None of the vegetables listed in the menu. 3. A delicious pork chow mein on the greasy side but very nice wok flavor and julienne veggies Honestly I'm not sure if I would bother to go back even for the chow mein if this is how it goes. Most of their customers come in a big groups. Currently Decatur road access is under construction, but plenty of parking. If you coming from east flamingo and you can enter thru flamingo street. Ooof chefs kiss to authentic hunan Chinese food. Yeah its not just orange chicken and chow mien folks. If you like spicy, stir fried dishes that make you eat a bucket of rice try it folks. But don't eat the chilis! In terms of hunan restaraunts, this creamed the crop even as someone from southern california. Compared to other places, the flavor is authentically spicy, not too oily or salty, and has the wok essence. It is on the pricier side of 18-20 but the quality is worth it. Another thing to note is some items are super popular /freshly made ( pig ear), so they might run out. I recommend the dry pot (cured meat, intestines). They used the square system and are on the chinese delivery app! A bite of spice, a bite of rice makes everything nice .. continue the cycle of serotonin. chicken gizzard- tender, spicy, its paired with vinegar pickled radishes which add a tangy essence. Not gamey at all. Intestines- fried perfectly to have the softness and crisp, very clean & perfect spice without being too oily or processed tasting Cured pork w/ celtuce- celtuce is either fresh or stirfried to the smoothest velvety texture. The meat is AUTHENTIC. its smoked and cured with chili flavored smoke, you have to try! The pork is thinly sliced and as precious as gold, but def worth for the flavor. Beer duck- chopped to bite size pieces with black fungus, not as spicy as the other dishes. Duck is tender. It doesn't have the modern fancies or flair, but i feel it can be hard to find authentic flavor that bring immigrant parents joy. The place is clean, and has enough space. The staff constantly look out to make sure everything is running smoothly. On a bonus- the waitress has extremely good sense. She noticed the types of dishes and asked if we wanted more rice, as well as automatically supplying tissues when she noticed our runny noses. A part of me doesn't want to post and give away this locals' secret to some of THE BEST HUNAN food ever, but here goes My family is from the Hunan province in China which is known for their hot dry spice that's eaten with white rice (to offset the spiciness). We ordered the following: an eggplant with thousand year old egg dish, a cabbage dish, a peppered beef dish, a shrimp dish, and a mushroom soup. Everything was so flavorful and so good! The eggplant dish was served in a cool old fashioned mortar and pestle - never seen that before but loved it. It was not spicy so it served as an offset to the spicier beef and shrimp dish. Beef was so tender and chewy, and had a delicious peppery spicy taste. It was so good with the white rice. The cabbage was also so flavorful. I've never really enjoyed eating cooked cabbage, but this was amazing. It had a umami flavor with it, hard to pinpoint what it was but it was great. The shrimp was cooked with cumin and hot spice and was delicious too! Be warned that Shrimp prepared in a Chinese kitchen means the shell is included bc it has all the flavor. The only thing I didn't like about the shrimp was that they left the black vein in it. Parking was easy, service super great and fast. If I was t with my parents I would never have thought to eat here as it's located in a kind of run down shopping center and the outside has no curb appeal. This is a pleasant surprise. I was taken aback by the look of the restaurant at beginning. There was a table blocking the entrance and I didn't see anyone in it. I was about to take off, the chef came to move away the table to let us in. I came with my parents and two little kids. I didn't realize the portions were generous and thus way over ordered. Wished the waiter would suggest us to stop ordering. Anyway, the food was very delicious. Especially the fresh fish. The fish is kinda pricey but worth every penny. I want to love this place, because everything did taste great and have a unique flavor in everything we tried. However, we wanted a fresh fish -which is my grandmas favorite whenever we visit- and they said they had none. It was 5pm on a Tuesday, so if make sure you call ahead and check if they have fish if that is what you are looking for. The best dish I had was for sure was the eggplant and the preserved egg, I fully recommend that. If you do not speak Chinese, it maybe hard to communicate with the waiters but it is worth it! read more

Wanting some spice in our life, we headed in the direction of food from the Hunan province. Our usual go to spot would be Yun Nan Garden, but we decided to change it up a bit and give its neighbor "Dong Ting Spring" a chance. It's conveniently located right next door to Yun Nan and taking a peek inside, you can see which one has more customers. That's okay though, we're an adventurous bunch and we'll give any place a go! (It doesn't hurt that all their reviews are between a four and five star.) Walking in, we were warmly greeted by the waitress and shown to a table. She asked in Mandarin if we wanted tea or water (or at least I think that's what she asked.) We confirmed tea and it arrived quickly, along with a menu. Utilizing Tony T.'s posted pics, it helped with our dinner choice. We figure it was a bit of gamble, but was confident we'd be satisfied. After putting in our order, the waitress asked us how we wanted our spice level and we chose medium. * Spicy Wild Mushroom Hot Pot ($11.95) - The first dish to arrive and it comes sizzling with a flame below it. It's a combination of mushrooms, some sort of meat, peppers, and packed with flavor. Great choice! * Shredded Potatoes with Vinegar Sauce ($6.95) - We discovered this shredded potato dish at Yun Nan and really enjoy it. But when it comes with vinegar sauce, woah - what a tangy contrast! One bite and I knew the Husband would be loving this dish. Something so simple and basic, but yet has so much flavor. We're down with the potatoes! Steamed rice is 50 cents per person. Service - although English is limited here, the friendly face and patient look on the waitress's face makes ordering and eating here a much better and pleasant experience than other Hunan restaurants in town. Although it's not quite as busy as their neighbor, we did notice families eating in the back and a group of regulars arrive shortly after us. So they do have a steady following. Overall, you can't go wrong with Hunan food. It's just so full of flavor, spice, and kick. Their food is far from bland. Our only downfall was not making this a group thing. The more the merrier, and in this case that means more dishes to try and share! Next time you want to add some spice in your life, do it with a group - it's always better that way! read more

I gotta say. My friend and I got SUPER confused when we found this place. We didn't know whether or not we found the right place. When we looked at the picture of the restaurant front on yelp and the actual restaurant, there were some differences. But then we compared the chairs/background and it matched what was in the restaurant so we were at the right place. No worries guys, I am extremely helpful: I completely forgot to take a picture of the front of the restaurant. But also no worries, it's the ONLY Chinese restaurant in that plaza! And I also believe it has the word "CHINESE" on their sign after all the Chinese characters. Anywho, we went for dinner and it was kind of empty, which is sort of weird. You know how when a restaurant is empty during the peak hours of dinner, it's a bad sign. But we walked right in anyways because we have to try their SPICY WILD MUSHROOM HOT POT that I've been seeing so much on this page. I just gotta try it! The hostess was very friendly. Asked if we wanted tea or water. We opted for both and she didn't even blink and eye and got it for us. After much decisions, we ended up going for the Spicy Wild Mushroom Hot Pot (of course) and the Lamb with Cumin Sauce. At first we weren't sure if we had to order rice or not but rice auto came with our meals. There are three spiciness levels from 1 to 3, 3 being the spiciest. My friend and I LOVE spicy stuff so we choose 3 for both of our dishes. We figured, hey, why not. Let's enjoy our meal now and we'll deal with the bathroom portion of it later if our stomachs did not agree. Spicy Wild Mushroom Hot Pot? Yelpers definitely don't steer you wrong. It tasted AMAZING. It wasn't bland because they had strips of pork in it to give it some flavor. The spicy peppers add a kick to it as well. It is definitely something you should order and try if you like mushrooms. As for the Lamb with Cumin? It was good too! Though the pieces of lamb kind of bunched up together because they probably used sliced shabu shabu style lamb. The only problem I had with these dishes was that it was SUPER oily towards the bottom of the dish. But it was SO GOOD. We ate some of the peppers too and they were SPICY. You know how in some dishes, it'll say "Jalapeno ____" and you eat the supposed jalapeno and it's not spicy at all? You won't have a problem here. But be sure you can handle it. Oh, remember how I said the rice was auto'd into our meals? It was also auto'd into our bill. Rice is $0.60 per person. Which isn't bad at all cause we took some of the food home and there was a good portion of the rice that we took home as well. The wait was around 40 minutes. When we got to the table, we thought we could now enjoy our meal. But no, it took an additional 40 minutes to GET a waiter to take our order. We called him around 5 times and he would just nod his head and then never come back. The waiter proceeded to try to squish as much parties into one big table. After finally getting our order in, it took another 40 minutes for the food to come. They completely forgot about our last 2 dishes which was the boiled fish + beef and smoked pork with lettuce. Despite terrible service, I would be fine if the food was good. But no, it was one of the worst Chinese food meals I've had. It was SO SO salty. You could hear the parties around us murmuring about how salty the food was. We used rice to try to soften down the bitter salty taste. The beef was a sad few strips that were so hard and tough to chew like a dog toy. It took them so long to serve the very salty dishes, that I saw many dishes uneaten.
