This is my old stomping grounds. There was a time this spot had a line outside and was the most popular place to go. I visited here recently again because I was craving their boiled spicy beef dish. I was a bit, surprised that there was no way in a lot of tables were available. They've really changed the interior completely and remodeled inside. If you're craving legit Sichuan food, this place delivers. Everything we tried was packed with flavor and that signature numbing kick you want from a proper Sichuan food. Ambiance is nice. Felt like I've stepped into a spot straight out of Chengdu. The stir fry cabbage is hands down one of the best versions I've ever had. The wok hei hits you right away. You can tell it was cooked fast and hot. Simple dish, but absolutely bursting with flavor. The suan cai yu was phenomenal. The broth was rich, tangy, and spicy. Loved all the layers of pickled mustard greens, chili oil, and Sichuan peppercorns. The fish itself was silky and tender, practically melting in your mouth. Easily a must-order dish here. One downside though, you have to pay for rice separately, which feels a little stingy considering how much sauce and broth these dishes come with. You'll definitely need rice so just add it on. Service is about what you'd expect from a busy Chinese restaurant, efficient, a bit no-nonsense, but not unfriendly. If you speak Mandarin, you'll probably get quicker service. read more

Given there are so many good Chinese restaurants, it was a tough decision where to have each meal, given the short trip and limited # of meals we can have. But alas, we were not disappointed. We went when they first opened and the restaurant was pretty quiet. It's nice and spacious. The service was friendly and prompt. We ordered 3 dishes and wish we were with a large group to order more because there are so many good dishes to try. We ended up trying the beef with red and green pepper (tasty and beef so tender), stir fried pig's liver & kidney (so delicious), and our go-to lazi chicken or chicken cube with chili pepper (which surprisingly, was not as flavorful as expected). Great little find in Chinatown away from all the craziness of many of the larger plazas. We were quickly seated and ordered our food after a few questions. Went with the Seaweed Eggdrop soup since it was a family style portion. It was great. Tasted fresh and perfectly seasoned. The Cold Noodles with Garlic Sauce was new to us. It included fresh minced garlic and lots of cucumbers plus peanuts and a chili crisp like sauce. Yummy. I ate most of the cucumbers and went light on sauce. Love this spot. Was craving Szechuan and stopped at this spot. I love the rattan pepper fish soup, and this spot is superb. It reminds me of Sichuan Impression, but this dish has extra flavors with the addition of bamboo shoots and cucumber. These two addition help cut down the greasy feeling and really made the soup taste light. We took the leftover soup home and added fish and bean sprouts to it the next day. The taste of the soup was still amazingly flavored and spicy. We also ordered green beans and spicy chili chicken l, and both are tasty. The spicy chili chicken definitely has a lot of Szechuan peppercorn, and it's been awhile since I experienced lip numbness for like 10min after eating this dish. Even wit the lip numbness, I still wanted to eat more. The staff was quick and friendly. They have highchair for kids. Overall, I absolutely love the food. Chengdu Taste is such a common name for a Sichuan restaurant that I've ate at more than a few of them in all different states and they are all unrelated. What I liked here in Vegas is their authentic flavors and generous portions! One order of mapo tofu here is like double the size of typical Chinese restaurants. We also got the Cuiyun boiled fish with pickled cabbage & chili and that was delicious! The soup was well balanced and a great choice if you want something a little less oily. Pickled cabbage is great for digestion too. What I was not crazy for here is bring nicked & dimed for white rice. There's no large or family size white rice so you're stuck paying for bowl after bowl. I'm back! The restaurant is located on 3950 Schiff Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89103. This is authentic as it gets! There are things such as diaphragm, gizzard, tripe, stomach, intestine, bullfrog, etc. if you like the truly exotic. They serve ice water is a huge pitcher with metal cups. For my drink, I am having the Ice Powder. This is more like a dessert! The clear things you see are not ice cubes (they're clear jelly fragments. A drink served in a bowl! I see sesame, granola, clear jelly, etc. It's sweet, but not overly so. I like it! For our appetizers, we are having the Mung Bean Jelly Noodles in Chili sauce, Cold Noodles with Garlic Sauce and Cucumber Salad. The Mung Bean Jelly is real good with the chili sauce! Watch out! Those little red peppers pack a lunch! The "nuts" on top are actually dried soybeans. The Cucumber Salad is huge! It's lightly seasoned and goes well with one of those chili sauces we also ordered. It is very easy to eat. The Cold Noodles are very lightly seasoned and also go well with the chili sauce. The music is also very authentic. For my entree, I'm having the Boiled Sliced Fish in Hot Sauce. This is on the "Numbing and Spicy Boiled Dish" menu. "Numbing"?! That is TWO chili peppers on their heat scale so watch out!! They go up to 3 chili peppers on their heat scale and that's REAL hot! I remember ordering a dish with a 3 chili pepper rating and it was VERY hard to eat even for me! Well, it's very spicy but edible. Rice is optional. It's piping hot too and served in a metal bowl. Beneath the fish is a bed of bean sprouts. My friend is getting the Chengdu Style Fried Rice. That is a huge mound! The food comes outside pretty quick! Of course there are only two tables now. I believe this is first come first serve so get early especially if doing dinner. This is my favorite Szechuan restaurant in Las Vegas if not anywhere I've been. The rice is so plain looking but crazy good with that obvious and addicting Szechuan papper numbing seasoning. This is a 626 classic whose prices shot up once they picked up significant hype from mainstream food media a while back (e.g. Jonathan Gold, Michelin's Bib Gourmand, etc). I hadn't frequented them for a while because of these disproportionate prices, but their price discrepancy compared to other Chinese restaurants have become a bit more reasonable over the years. I've now tried this Vegas location several times now and the quality is on par with their 626 locations. They carry all the classics, and the ones I rotate through most include their Boiled Fish, Twice Cooked Pork, Ma Po Tofu, Toothpick Lamb, Kung Pao Chicken, and Sauteed Eggplant. They're also one of the few Chinese restaurants in town I've seen with Mung Bean Jelly Noodles. read more

For our last meal in Vegas, we decided to try the Sichuan food at Chengdu Taste in Chinatown. We stopped by Sunday around noon and snagged one of the last open booths. The menu is very easy to peruse with large pictures of most of the dishes and clearly marked pepper signs to indicate how spicy the dish is. As someone who doesn't handle spicy food very well, I was glad to see they have a decent selection of non-spicy dishes as well. Prices are on the higher end, as each dish is in the $20-30 range. Portions are big but not as big as you'd expect from the prices. Service was slow, which is why I'm deducting a star. It took a while each time we needed the server's attention, whether that was to order or add a bowl of rice or get the bill. We ordered one appetizer and three dishes to share: Veggie spring rolls ($8.99) - this was fried to a nice crisp but I found it bland without the sauce Twice cooked pork ($20.99) - my second favorite dish of the meal. It was marked with one pepper sign but I could barely taste the heat Sauteed beef with green onions ($21.99) - best dish of the meal. The beef was tender and flavorful and it wasn't spicy at all! Chengdu Taste is a famous Szechuan Restaurant located in China Town. They specialize in serving foods that are well known from the Chinese City of Chengdu. Not all but most of the foods served are very spicy. This isn't a big restaurant and can fill up fast. Pro Tips - Most people don't think of Szechuan Food early on Sunday Mornings...This place filled up after I left. Also you need a cell phone to dine here. They use those QR code menus here. We started off by sharing cucumber salad. It was light and refreshing. We shared the boiled fish with green pepper sauce and the boiled beef in hot sauce. Both were prepared to perfection and both seemed fresh as can be. Both proteins were prepared expertly well. We also were surprised that the portions were generously large and are for sharing. The only off thing was the heat level of the dishes differed from the menu description. The fish dish was marked one Chile pepper and the beef dish was marked two Chile peppers so we were expecting the beef dish to be hotter but the fish dish came out MUCH more spicy hot than the beef. Service was efficient. It was a joy to try very good Szechuan food again. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to Chile Heads. read more

I asked for it to be less spicy than normal, but it was still VERY spicy. Even thinking about it makes my eyes water. Never thought I would do a review on eggplant. Everything we had was so delicious and had a kick of spice. Our friend from Cali took us here and said that it is the closest to authentic Chinese food. The restaurant itself sits behind a major shopping plaza and is easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Food is ordered family style and portions were large enough to share at our table of 7. Their was a short male server with glasses who brought out our white rice bowls, he had his thumbs and fingernail in our rice as he served it to us!!!! He could of at least put the 3 rice bowls on a tray! But his WHOLE thumb was in our rice and he just threw it in the table because he was in a rush. With the whole pandemic that happened, you would've thought proper sanitation and cleanliness is important to them. But I guess not.
