Never been to the original place, so I can't compare there. Although not a traditional cheesesteak on a hoagie roll, this seeded Kaiser roll is a decent size. Comes with plenty of meat. The fries are seasoned (I believe with old bay). They have five outdoor tables to sit at, but the place is mainly take out. There aren't many options to add toppings - the cheesesteak is just cheese, steak, and onions. Thought it was overall decent but nothing to write home about. However, service was pretty fast and order was ready in a few minutes. read more

Donkey's downtown delivers! Delicious cheese steak and chicken cheese. The fries were full of that nostalgic Donkey's seasoning too. The panzarotinis were also good. However, don't rush to a harsh judgment based on nonconformity. This is a superior take on a classic sandwich. Add some French fries and a bottled soda and you're in for a treat! Con: It's a cheesesteak spot. Don't show up and expect mozzarella sticks! Also, the outdoor seating is a summer-only option. Don't brave the winter chill to enjoy. Go home and dine in warmth. Someplace I've been waiting to try and I didn't feel like going to Camden to do it. Mt. Holly is much closer and safer. So I took a ride Saturday to try it out. It's a take out or eat outside venue. Very clean and staffed with friendly people. I ordered the cheesesteak with fried onions, onion rings and a Mexican Coke, made with real sugar not corn syrup. Not cheap at $24. The sandwich was on a large round, poppyseed roll. Very fresh and soft. The beef isn't just shaved beef. It's good quality that seemingly melts in your mouth. I put the pepper salsa on it. Nice and spicy! The onion rings are a gigantic portion. Feed two people easily. Hot and fresh. Real whole onion not ground up and reconstituted. The Coke was different but not bad. Not something I eat regularly, but a nice change of pace. I like supporting local businesses when I can and this is a place I'll visit again. You should too! read more

Really tasty cheesesteaks and huge portions! The meat has a seasoning on it I can't quite put my finger on but it is good, a bit salty though. Especially for those who are salt intolerant but it was seasoned to me. My husband has a low salt tolerance so he wasn't a big fan. I'm down with Phili cheesesteaks so if you want the best here make sure you get it with whiz!! I got extra whiz on mine cause I'm a cheese girl. Fries were seasoned generous Lou as well and I ordered the panzaroni I think it was? That was small cheese filled dough, good snack but little heavy. I have been here twice. Bought only cheesesteaks both times. Onions are amazing. Great taste and crunch. Had American and Cheese Wiz. Rolls are better than I ever would have thought. Not sure why all others use something else than round with poppy seeds. Sandwiches are big. Steak delicious too. Be prepared to wait a bit but it's definitely worth it. Great food can't be rushed. I drove 35 minutes each way best on recommendation. Definitely worth it. And certainly will be back. Donkeys is already a family favorite. So good!!! read more

Stopped here for a cheese steak to eat with some suds at Village Idiot brewery in town with my partner. Ordered only one cheese steak with wiz, extra meat and onion rings. Started to eat it and realized how greasy it was to the point that the bottom piece of bun was soaked. Good flavor but heavy on grease and a mess to eat. Onion rings were excellent. After hearing the rave reviews, I wanted to try it: First thing that was a shocker, was the $13 price (80 cents less if paying cash) Stadium pricing. Even though inflation is through the roof, this price is higher than anyone around, even in Philly. The staff are wonderful and super friendly, but the sandwich left me begging for flavor and authenticity of what a Philly Steak really is. Meat and onion portion was good, but the best way to describe the taste of the sandwich is sugary, but no flavor of meat. I don't know what the seasoning is, but guessing honey or sugar. A great Philly steak at the least should have juicy thin sliced steak and good caramelized onions, plus a chewy tasty roll. The sandwich here had a tasty poppy seed roll, and juicy meat with well caramelized onions, but the meat flavor was absent, almost as if it there was great meat texture, but all meaty flavor masked or hidden. I gave it three stars because it isn't a bad sandwich, just not something I would ever pay for for $13 and still left me craving for a Philly steak. The steak was delicious. They don't chop it all up. Plenty of cheese. Such a juicy cheesesteak. I usually put ketchup but didn't because it didn't need it at all. I picked some of the onions off. They were delicious as well but overwhelmed the flavor to me and I didn't need as many on the sandwich as they put on it. I also was skeptical about the kaiser roll concept but it works! Only thing is that poppy seeds are not my thing to begin with, they have a flavor and the sandwich doesn't need that flavor so while the rolls are delicious and bigger than the usual kaiser roll (could finish the sandwich) the seeds didn't work for me, hence 4 stars instead of 5. I tried to scrape off as much as possible. I would definitely go back. Cute little outdoor seating area and a connect four game, which was fun to do while waiting. read more
