I can't speak more highly of Donna and her family. I think there's somewhat of a stigma with shopping for a diamond on Jeweler's row. There's so much competition, and a first-time buyer can only hope that they're getting a fair deal. I visited a few places on Wabash before I ended up in Donna's shop, and when I did, I realized she was far and away the most genuine person to work with. The shop is actually only an unassuming strip of jewelers cases located at the entrance to a diamond mall, but don't get the wrong idea. They might as well rename the mall after their shop, because there's nothing else to see there. Donna found me a high-quality diamond at a price that was better than what I was being quoted elsewhere for diamonds with lesser clarity and color. They didn't hesitate to offer that diamond with a custom-designed setting at the same price point. I sketched out the design that I was looking for, and they executed it beautifully. My budget was modest, but you'd never be able to tell by looking at the ring. I had plans to get engaged while visiting family in Arizona, so Donna offered to ship the finished ring with a secure shipping agency and the appropriate insurance. A few months later I was so excited for my now-wife to meet Donna and her family, and they set us up with equally-stunning wedding bands. Fast-forward 6 years later. My wife and I live on the East coast now, but while on a business trip back to the city, I thought I'd take a shot at visiting Donna to see if she could replace a small diamond on my wife's eternity band. Buying an engagement ring is perhaps one of the most stressful things a guy will ever have to do in his lifetime. Think about it: - You want to buy the perfect ring that your girl will love but you also don't want to blow a huge amount of $$$ for some piece of jewelry that she won't even wear all the time due to activities such as washing dishes, taking showers, etc. - You try to become an educated ring buying by doing some research online beforehand but you discover that the engagement ring industry comes with a crap load of esoteric jargon that goes far beyond just knowing the 4 C's ("Band flush with shank"? Come again?) - You decide to ask people for help, thinking they will impart wisdom and knowledge that will alleviate your worries. Instead, you come to find that everyone in the jewelry business only seems to care about making the sale (How can every single ring I ask to look at be "the perfect one for her"?). Result: you start to openly curse the bastard who successfully put the idea into women's heads that an engagement ring is a BIG DEAL. Needless to say, buying an engagement ring is not exactly the most pleasant experience in the world. However, the folks at Donna Jewelry will try their best to make the ring buying process as painless and stress-free as possible. Danny and his wife Jenny are simply nice, honest people who will work with you to come up with the "perfect" ring, regardless of your budget or time frame. When I bought my now fiance's engagement ring, I was impressed by how Donna Jewelry came through in three areas: * Price: To save on costs, I had initially planned on buying the diamond online and then setting it in the store. When I mentioned this to Danny, he encouraged me to research prices online but also asked me to come to him first before I made a decision because he felt that he could match or beat any price on the internet. So I did some research on Blue Nile and brought in a print out of the ring that I wanted. He took a look at the specs and proceeded to produce a very comparable diamond at roughly the same price. This turned out well because I had been leery about buying a diamond that I couldn't first see in person. * Service When I decided on the diamond that I wanted to buy, I noticed that the GIA laser inscription was missing. While I didn't feel like Danny & Jenny were trying to scam me with a bogus diamond, I was still uncomfortable buying a diamond without the inscription. I pointed this out to Danny and he immediately agreed to send the diamond to GIA to get the number inscribed. He said it would take max two weeks but it ended up taking closer to 3.5 weeks. Even though the delay was not his fault, he felt bad that I had to wait longer than he initially promised and tried to make it up to me by paying for the appraisal for the ring as well as putting in bigger supporting stones (I had gotten a three-stone setting). I'm not sure how many other jewelers would've done the same so I appreciated the extra effort on the customer service front. * Quality/Value I honestly think I got a pretty nice diamond for the price that I paid. I'm sure everyone feels the same way about the diamond that they bought but seriously -- the sucker shines like you wouldn't believe. Point is: you'll get a good bang for your buck at Donna Jewelry. When I was ring shopping, I had a specific idea in mind -- a Colombian round emerald solitaire engagement ring in a diamond setting. Our experience with Donna's jewelry could not have been better. My now husband found her through Yelp and her and the team were incredibly kind and very helpful as he decided what engagement ring to buy (made the process so much less intimidating!). As we started planning our wedding, he was so proud to bring me to Donna and we had such a fun time picking out our wedding rings. Donna was great! The experience was not quite what I expected though. It was not the "cushy" comfortable engagement ring consultation that I had experienced else where. It's in kind of a strip mall venue and there is just one case of diamonds and you just walk right up. They left it up to us to lead the consultation and I wasn't really sure what to ask, so it was a little awkward. We only stayed for about 20 minutes of our 1 hour appointment because they weren't really showing us styles unless we explicitly asked for a certain diamond size on a certain setting. They also said we needed to call ahead and request certain shapes/sizes if we wanted to see them in person (they don't ask any of these preliminary questions when making an appointment online). They did quote us lower though than the diamonds we were quoted at other shops, so I do believe they have great value diamonds. The quote we received for the setting we want was 1/2 the cost at Donna than it was at other locations. I would say to come here after you have shopped around and have a good knowledge of diamonds and what you want and the level of clarity/color/and carat size you can get for your budget. read more

The story of how Donna saved me from blowing 25k on a terribly sub par blue nile diamond...the story begins with this novice of an engagement ring purchaser buying what appeared by all accounts on blue nile a diamond of relatively high quality and decent size. The Gia certificate showed a few grains but otherwise flawless to the naked eye. I even called blue nile to get their opinion and they assured me that the diamond I was purchasing was excellent. I purchased it. 25k. I then took it to Donna for her opinion and a comparison test. Literally, within 10 seconds of looking at the blue nile diamond with her naked eye, she noticed a significant issue. The interior graining caused the diamond to appear extremely cloudy and milky to the naked eye. Only when compared to a diamond Donna had at the store did I notice immediately the stark and clear difference. I immediately returned the blue nile diamond and purchased a diamond and setting from Donna at the same price I spent at blue nile without sacrificing any of the cut, clarity or size. I'll give blue nile this - they provide decent value compared to the corporate chains but NOTHING is comparable to the family owned and cherished jewelry store like Donna jewelry company. Donna saved me from a significant mistake both financially and emotionally when I think about possibly giving my fiancée a subpar diamond for the price I paid.
