Very offensive response. For white customers, she probably didn't notice that she talked to them nicely. If you are not white, I don't recommend this shop. I emailed ahead to ask about picking up gear the day before. They replied that I could come in after 4 PM as long as it wasn't busy. However, when I arrived after 4 PM to a nearly empty shop (only one other guest), they refused and said they never do early pickups during the holidays. read more

My old board broke so I rented a demo board and bindings a few days ago to go to sugar bowl, where I have ridden countless times. The rossignol snowboard demo provided was fine, but the bindings were not correctly mounted, and on my third run all of a sudden my front binding went from +15 to -7.. something I've never seen on a snowboard in 25 years (and IMO requires seriously messing up a mounting job), def not something any rider / customer should experience less than an hour after renting. I slammed of course and now my back is screwed. Also at the beginning of the day the bindings were mounted by the shop worker completely forward with 3 in of toe drag, IMO an improper setup for a size 12 boot on a 158 board. And each and every strap on both bindings kept coming undone, as in I would tighten up to three before going on my run, and I would get to the bottom and there would be five or six holes exposed on the latch. Really guys? In my experience setting up and riding snowboards, this all sounds like an improper mounting job. I reported this to the owner, both in person, on a phone call and dozens of emails and was met with an extremely defensive attitude and absolutely no care to inquire about my health and well-being. Completely stonewalled. Still hurting bad, def no riding for awhile. Hopefully it's just internal bruising and goes away in a few weeks but the point is I should not be in this situation. Sketchy as hell, she said on the phone call that they had already ran tests on the binding... It only been like 30 minutes since I dropped it off! 100% will never be frequenting their business again. Most mind-blowing part is neither the worker or owner even asked me about the events of the day that caused my injury, after I reported it to them, or even asked me if I was okay (ie putting liability concerns over customer's immediate health). read more

Donner Ski Shop is the place to rent your skis or snowboards if you're planning on skiing at Soda Springs, Boreal or Donner. Even if you're heading into Truckee or Tahoe City and want to avoid the rush on your way in and out. They're easily accessed, right off I80 on Donner Pass Road. They're nice people and will have you set up and out the door quickly. Rory helped my son and me, and he was friendly and helpful. They've got better equipment than Sports Basement offers near us in the East Bay, so I was glad that I waited to get to Soda Springs and try Donner Ski Shop instead. Glad that I did! read more

We rented boots, skis, poles and a helmet for a trip to Sugar Bowl a few weeks ago. We were able to pick up our gear after 4pm the day before and only be changed for 1 rental day, so we could go straight to the mountain the next morning. The price was great, and the location was very convenient for dropping everything off at the end of the day. read more

It's been a few years but this place used to be down the street closer to the freeway. My co-worker had a ski that was delaminating and tech, only known as "Turtle" fixed it right quick. They definitely have cheap prices and a friendly attitude. May not be the best for latest and greatest but for those beginners just learning or for those that need fixes on old gear they do you right. 3.5 stars read more

First time snowboarding, and intimidated as hell! The guys in this shop were laidback and passionate about the sport. They are open to giving tips, joking around, and recommendations (didn't have to buy goggles, they said I'd be good to go with just sunglasses as it wasn't storming out there at the time), which made me feel at ease. The gear itself worked just fine. Me however not so much. The boots were comfortable, the board survived despite me crashing (what felt like crashing) a dozen times and I am sooo glad I got a helmet. $30 total for everything: snowboard, bindings, boots and helmet. I would recommend hitting this place up to anyone, and will definitely be going there again. read more

Incredible service, great prices, and an overall fantastic experience! First time heading to Soda Springs with a newbie snowboarder: she was outfitted, we got tips for the resort and conditions, and most importantly, everything was so earnest and honest! These folks are great. We've been in a few times in the last 2 months. We dropped off our skis and snowboards for a tune and wax with a one day turnaround. Easy peasy. I also had to rent a board due to equipment issues. I was expecting to end up with some junker but they had a wide selection and let me assist in picking out the board. I ended up with a 156 Ride Havoc which is a great board with a sintered base. Stoked. They were super friendly while they got it set up. If we need to pick up rentals for friends we'll definitely come back. read more

We went the last week of the season and they were the only ones open. Which we didn't mind at all. And the location is only minutes away from the ski resorts. This little shop is truly a gem of a spot. It is much more affordable and less chaotic than renting at a resort, and is super convenient to all of the Donner Summit ski areas. However, what really sets this shop apart from others in the area is the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. We were in town to do some sledding and skiing, and my boys wanted to build a snow fort. I dropped in to see if they sold shovels, and even though they didn't sell them, the staff let me borrow their shovel for the day at no charge. Thanks in large part to their kindness, we ended up having an amazing adventure that day. Will definitely be visiting them again! read more

I rented skis from here over MLK weekend. I passed it on the way to Soda Springs. When we got to Soda, the line for rentals was so long, I left and went back to this shop. The cost of skis, poles and boots was $15. That's less than half the cost of Donner Ski Ranch and Soda Springs. I got my daughter a helmet, which was $5. The staff couldn't have been nicer. My daughter was really shy that morning and one of the guys was great with her and tried to bring her out of her shell. He even helped bring the gear to the car. My only negative comment was that one of my skis didn't lock easily. Once I got it locked, it stayed. I'd definitely go back. read more

This place has cheap (relatively) rental prices, but the rental equipment they have is old and not top of the line. The skis I rented from them were falling apart and it would have been more worth it to spend the extra few dollars to rent better equipment at the resort. read more

I had a horrible experience there. There was a man lying on the floor fixing one of the drink cooler's. My child grabbed a drink from the next cooler and tripped over the man. He dropped the drink and about a quarter of it spilled on the floor and the men's pants. As we were apologizing and going to try and clean it up he started cursing at us and got in our faces. It was a small accident and I was shocked at his reaction. I of course defended my child. I was sure when the owner came over he word apologize, but instead he told us to leave the store and also cursed at us. He was defending his employees reaction about being upset that his pants were a little bit wet. I have stopped at this store for years and was assured they didn't need my business. On a positive note the place was so overpriced that I'm grateful I have an excuse not to stop there. read more
