I have never had their bbq, but have been going for breakfast tacos for years. Great corn tortillas, the best salsa bar in Austin.

The macaroni tastes like bread. It was very horrible. It's also kind of soupy. Didn't have enough cheese. The Coke is good. But that's the only thing. I got the breakfast tacos and the bacon was cut into small pieces and very sparsely placed. Mostly egg. The plates and cutlery are very low quality. They just did a new paint job but it did not improve the food. They don't let you bring your own cups for refills. read more

I got a hamburger with Onion rings. It was okay, nothing great to hurry back. The breakfast burrito was delicious and big. The pulled pork was good. Seems to be Hispanic owned and operated and I love the diversity of the dinners. Cashier was kind enough to be patient while we struggled with our decisions. Luckily she recommended the Catfish & didn't disappoint!! A very casual lunch time spot with huge menu of Mexican dishes as well as BBQ plates. I came for BBQ so I ordered the Brisket plate & My Husband got the Fried Catfish. "I Tell YOU WHAT" I'm in love with the food in Texas!! Been around these parts my entire life but never made Donn's a regular dining spot. Back in the day I worked for the Salt Lick in Driftwood so I had BBQ covered. Just 100 yards away is Jim's which I've been dining at religiously for breakfast since my teens. That about covers my dining needs every day of the week. I guess curiosity got the better of me on a recent morning and headed in for breakfast. I mean, my buddy Joe G. eats here near daily as he lives in the Scenic Brook neighborhood. What am I missing here? My ideal breakfast taco when featuring BBQ is fluffy eggs, crispy taters, mound of cheddar, and a perfectly sliced slab of fatty brisket. Salsa too! Donn's was OK. Eggs and meat cooked together; wished for Valentina's craftmanship and presentation. Second plate was biscuit and gravy; part of my usual "Country Boy Combo". Nicely cooked biscuit served in a paper boat with a plastic cup of gravy. Coupe dashes of black pepper made the dish acceptable fare. All tacos served on a single foam plate. Y'all could have splurged and gave my GF her own plate! Condiments were plentiful and appreciated. Most interesting was Donn's version of red salsa with notes of New Mexico red chili with hints of a BBQ sauce. Salsa verde and the pico were tasty too. read more

Donn's is consistently good and easy to get delivery pretty quickly even on the weekends. During this last visit, we got the three meat plate, which came with a decent sized portion of brisket, pork ribs, and pulled pork. You can choose, which ever three meats you'd like. The plate also comes with two sides, so we got the mac & cheese, which is my favorite side of theirs, and the baked beans, which was also tasty The delivery came with pickles, onions and bread. The brisket was a bit of a let down with the rubbery texture and the pork ribs rounded up with a 6/10. The fries were the star of the show with a good balance of salt and not too greasy. Cons: Service wasn't as cooperative while ordering and at one point ignored a customer who had spilled a drink and didn't even offer to clean up in a high traffic area. The brisket was greasy - not fatty - and tasted VERY bland. My sides were fried okra and cream corn and my kids got mac & cheese and potato salad. Pretty disappointing. We had lean brisket sandwiches. I trimmed fat off almost every piece on my sandwich. The brisket was fairly tasteless and not tender at all. It was either out too long or just not smoked well. The sauce wasn't particularly good either, just not much flavor. We bought 1/2 pound of barbecue brisket, 1/2 pound of lean brisket, and 1/2 pound of mild sausage with three sides to go for $50 including tax. I gave a $5 tip, so $55 in total. Our food was ready in 5 minutes. The quality of the food was excellent with the only quibble being that the lean brisket was a little dry. The regular brisket was moist and flavorful and the sausage was very good. The potato salad was the mashed style and it was very good. Cole slaw leaned towards a vinaigrette style and it was very good. Finally, the mac and cheese was excellent. Overall, a good value. Tip: skip the lean brisket and get the regular. read more

Stumbled upon this place while in Austin and it is easily one of the best barbecue spots in the area and state. I believe it is hispanic owned by the choices on the menu which includes typical bbq plates while also offering breakfast tacos, burritos, and plates like migas and huevos rancheros. I got a barbacoa burrito which was massive and delicious. The brisket taco was a tortilla with 4 thick slices of lean brisket. I highly recommend this place if you're near and hungry. read more

We go get take out three or four times a month. We enjoy the food. So tonight my husband went to get dinner of brisket and potato salad. When he got home we noticed what we thought was potato salad was a bowl of tarter sauce. So he drove back to let them know what happened. They laughed and made it out as no big deal. My husband said for his troubles would the give him a second potato salad. They really didn't want to do it. They said ok and gave him the very small one and seemed to be put out. Not good customer service. Ps. There potato salad is very good. I believe you make the customer happy within reason Well we tried it again. Brisket, Sausage and Chicken with pints of Beans, Mac & Cheese, Mashed Potato's and Cole Slaw. Well, no Cole Slaw since Suzie forgot to pick it out of the fridge on her way out. That would be the only slight, not sure why they cannot put that in the order so it won't be forgotten. Didn't want to go back after discovering the over sight when we opened the bags at the house. This certainly isn't gourmet Mac, but good enough. Mashers were potato's and some cream gravy, just added some ground pepper and salt and they were good to go. The beans were tasty, I think there may have been some bits of brisket in there. We also got a half a loaf of white bread, which was unusual, but we ate it anyway.. well not all of it. All the meats were fine. Fatty Brisket here and there amongst some lean bits were moist and flavorful. Chick very tender, moist and smoky. Sausage was just a tiny bit dry, but nothing a dunk in the BBQ sauce didn't cure. All in all, my hangover subsided and a diet coke went well with everything. Whenever I walk into a barbecue restaurant, i take a huge deep breath to soak in the barbecue smell. There was only a slight smell when we walked into here. But we decided to eat here anyways. We ordered the family special they included 2 pounds of meat and four sides. The sides were fried okra, cream corn, green beans, and mac & cheese. The okra tasted good not great, the other three sides were average at best, there was no special flavor. For the meats we ordered brisket, turkey, and jalapeño cheese sausage. The sausage had adequate flavor but definitely needed more jalapeño. Turkey was not smoked, definitely from the oven. It could've used more space and flavor. The brisket was tender but lacked smoke flavor. It was overall bland. Barbecue sauce was pretty good at least to compensate for the lack of flavor in the meat.
