Hopdoddy in general is an undefeated 10/10 when it comes to their food, pretty healthy, so many choices, incredible shakes (super unhealthy but wouldn't change a thing!) . Let's take a moment of gratitude for the calorie counts on their menu I love that their burgers can be turned into a bowl, or buns swapped for lettuce This branch has great outdoor seating (way more than the south congress branch) and parking space is ample! I did knock one star off though - the indoor seating area has an unclean odour, not sure if the building is older or the oils / food smells got on the all/furniture. I went there after a long morning of working out. My sister in law drove in from San Antonio, and we went to Crunch gym for Pilates, sauna and hydro massage. We were so hungry afterwards, and she asked if there was a good place for burgers. I immediately recommended Hopdoddy, since it is right next to the gym and they are famous for having great burgers! We looked at the menu and both ordered the Magic Shroom burgers: Creamy Goat Cheese, Mushrooms, Mayo, Basil Pesto, Lettuce, Tomato, and Onion. We noticed that any burger can be made into a bowl. This appealed to us, since we both are gluten free and don't like buns on our burgers. We chose the kale salad for the bowls. For carbs instead of the bun, we ordered a side of fries. They were served very quickly and looked beautiful in the bowl. And tasted delicious! The mushrooms, goat cheese and pesto on the burger were fantastic! You can opt for speedy counter service or full service at the bar but if you're on-the-go, there is a drive-thru pick-up window available for online orders. Their focus is on a quick casual burger with speed and convenience. We ordered from the counter and were given a number and picked a table to sit in the dining area. Our food was brought to the table once prepared. It is hard not to default to ordering a burger here, but I had to try the Santorini Bowl with fresh house greens tossed in a bright oregano-lemon vinaigrette, with 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised beef, roasted sweet potatoes, crunchy cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, pickled red onions, creamy pastu avocado, and spicy garbanzo beans. This bowl was light and flavorful with fresh ingredients and great texture. Other people in my party ordered the Llano Poblano burger which was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and packed with bold flavors. I also received a free mini shake for my birthday. It comes with a beef patty, pepper jack, bacon, pablano, pico, avacado, lettuce, and a chipotle aioli. He chose to get it without the pepper jack and without the pico. He enjoyed it. I ordered the Farmhouse Burger which comes with a beef patty, cheese, bacon, a sunny side up egg, crispy onions, lettuce, tomato, and sliced onions. Listen, I've been here a few times now... it's a place that tries to turn burgers upscale, but if I'm being honest, this place isn't that upscale, and I just want Five Guys after I stop by the gym next door! Their fries are large portions, but a perfect sharable. I ordered the parmesan truffle fries as well as the cadillac wagyu, which were both amazing. We ordered online, for pickup, and they conveniently have a drive thru area where you can pick up your order. If you choose to dine in, there is indoor and outdoor seating, and apart from the burgers they also serve beer and milkshakes. Ahh.. how I remember the early days of HopDoddy down on South Congress Avenue. As we used to do frequently back then, we were on our way for some Silver Train Margaritas at Guero's and noticed folks queuing up on the pavement. Upon further investigation, the line was for Hop's. They were getting some great press, the ultimate burger place and 40mins to 1 hr waits. Yeah.. not for us. Burger is a burger in my eyes and in my youth I worked at the Burger Chef on S. Lamar. Meanwhile back in our hood, a couple of years ago up popped Lil'Doddy Burger Lab. We paid no mind, until we happened to meet a very engaging, fiesty young lady at the bar in our neighborhood favorite Mexican joint. She had been working at Hop's for years and was a trainer or some sort. We laughed had a drink or two and promised to visit. Which we eventually did. Upon our first arrival, there was plenty of parking and the interior was much larger than it looked from the outside. You are greated by a large bar on the left and dining tables on the right. We took our usual place at the bar and picked up a menu. Pretty diverse selection here. From Hot Nashville Chicky sammies, to many different Burger types, shakes and a fairly large array of French Frie's in bowls. It was definitely a reminder of my age when looking at a $13.95 burger from the days of a 60 cent Super Shef from Burger Chef.. :) We opted for a fry bowl, seemed the thing to do and split a Llano Poblano burger on this visit. The Parmesan Truffle fries were tasty, crisp and thin. Lots of flavor and easily enough for the both of us. Llano burger was sloppy, dripping with Chipolte Aioli goodness. Very tasty indeed. We enjoyed a couple of Margarita's and casual conversation with folks at the bar. Having a full bar is a nice touch. We have been back several times, if not just for a night cap and some fries. There are some items I keep forgetting to try, the Hot Chicky sammie looks like something I need to get my teeth into on our next visit. Would I wait in line to get in...seriously doubt it. There's a couple things I like about this location. First this location has plenty of parking and second this burger place has a lot of different types of burgers that I don't see at other places. I love that you can make any burger a bun free salad bowl and their fries have unique options like my Nacho Fries or the fact you can order sweet potato fries. I don't drink but the drink menu is large with a full bar and seating inside is plenty, even though I'm a little short and thought the table was a little too high for me in the booth but they have tons of variety for seating including outside patio that was playing some chill reggae music. A little different about this place is you order first and then they tell you what table to sit at and will bring out your food to you. The bartender was really sweet and I loved the strawberry margarita! Most of their drinks are so delicious. I ordered a burger this time. I got The Llano Pablano and a order of large fries (why not :)) the burger was very well balanced and the beef was tender and perfectly seasoned. I enjoyed the toppings and added an egg--simple and a classic well done, literally. My food definitely should have came out hot but it didn't. I hmmm hoping this was a one time error. I've been wanting to try Lil'Doddy for a while now and finally did. My order came out super quick. To start I got the Parmesan Truffle Fries. This was basically just fries with Parmesan, salt, chives, and truffle oil with truffle aioli sauce served on the side. The fries were okay, but nothing exceptional. There were signs all over the restaurant for the Truffle Mac Burger and it looked really good in the picture so I wanted to try it. This burger had a thick beef patty with tomato, arugula, caramelized onions, and truffle macaroni and cheese with truffle aioli. It was good but I was expecting more creamy truffle macaroni and cheese since what I got doesn't really look like what's on the advertisement. I also got the Ahi Tuna Burger. It basically tastes like sushi in burger form. The burger had ahi tuna that's seared rare with lettuce, tomato, crispy nori chips, teriyaki sauce, mayo, and cucumber wasabi with ginger on top.
