Don's Bike Center is the best bike shop on planet Earth. I've only experienced like six of them in my lifetime, but regardless Don's is far and away #1. The last bike I bought here was over four years ago, and I loved it. Sadly it was stolen a couple weeks ago, and I assumed that there was nothing I could do about it because I had no idea when I bought it, and I definitely didn't know what card I used to buy it and wasn't even sure if I used the card. So I'm filling out the information for the insurance claim and I thought why not give Don's a call, the bike was the most valuable thing that was stolen from my vehicle so I wanted to try and at least get some reimbursement for it. Shockingly, Eric was able to find my transaction information and send me a receipt directly to my phone via text (within literally 1 minute somehow), so that I could properly note everything for the insurance claim. Eric was unbelievably helpful and very appreciative of my appreciativeness. I am so glad that I called Don's and spoke to Eric. I hate talking on the phone with anyone and it was not only a great conversation because I was able to get the receipt from him but genuinely he just sounded like an amazing person and was extremely kind the whole time. Top-Notch Hometown Service! When I first started shopping for bikes, I was in Florida and was told by another shop that I had to order my Specialized bike online -- so that's what I did. Once I got back home, I took it to Don's Bike Shop, and I'm sure glad I did. Even though I didn't buy the bike directly from them, they treated me like a valued customer from the start. They built the bike, tuned it perfectly, installed all the accessories I purchased through them, and made sure everything fit and functioned just right. I feel like we have lived at Don's Bike Shop lately. We are getting into mountain biking as a family, and this means we've bought 4 bikes in the last 2 months. We do buy them used as the kids will be outgrowing them soon and we wanted to see if this is something they really do love before spending thousands on new bikes. However, each bike has had to be tuned up and tweaked a bit to get it up to par- so we went to Don's. They are always knowledgable, fair priced and friendly. I have been into BikeKraft once recently, and though I now own a Trek (which BikeKraft specializes in) I will not be returning as they have poor customer service and are rude. So I am not too impressed with this bike shop. I went in to get two bikes fully serviced the other day because I just moved to town and wanted to have the ability to ride around town. I get the bikes back and they don't tell me anything is wrong and that they are good to go. The next day I ride to Safeway to get some groceries and when I am half way home my pedal starts wobbling, so I go check it out and it just falls off. Needless to say I wasn't too happy trying to get home with a back pack full of groceries and only one pedal. I get home and figure out how to bolt it back on so I can take it into the shop So on my way to the shop It seems like since I rode it around with a wobble that the something is now bent because it's riding really weird. Anyway so I take it into the shop and the guy tells me " ya on cheap bikes like these this precision parts tends to wear down easily and I would have to replace it" All I know for sure is A: My pedal would never fell off before I had taken it to this shop yet it started to the day I got it back from them. B: If there was a serious issue with this bike shouldn't they have noticed and told me that my petal may just fall off because I can really have hurt myself. C: I thought it was really rude and inconsiderate for they guy to call my bike a "cheap bike" I'm sorry I don't have tons of money like he no doubt does to buy a super expensive bike but its what I can afford and I have to live with it and him insulting it doesn't help the situation. This is a very mixed review for me because in general they seem nice but on the other hand they also seem very elitist and maybe just don't care about bikes that aren't super high quality . I mean my bike isn't even a crazy off brand its a Mongoose Mountain bike from Costco . Anyway I just don't have faith in their service and don't need people talking down about my bike so I'm pretty sure I won't be going back there and would probably recommend that people try one of the other bike shops in town before they come here. read more

Drove down all the way from Seattle to pick up a bike that I couldn't find anything similar anywhere in Washington. Eric was super friendly and helpful. Was the first bike I'd bought in over 20 years and he walked me through tips and the bike in detail, as well as the various accessories while not pushing me to buy anything I don't need or want. I walked out of there feeling comfortable about the bike and overall had a very great experience throughout the purchase. Just wanted to yelp out a quick thank you to Don and his mechanic for the excellent advice on the trails in the area and also the quick brake pad replacement they did on my mountain bike. The bike is now in great stopping shape and I was able to do some epic riding in Mendocino and then around Lake Tahoe later in the week without the fear of crashing or ending up in a lake. I have had a lot of different shops work on my bikes but never before have I been able to walk my bike in and have it worked on while my wife and I had lunch next door. I searched high and low for a bike shop that was willing and capable of repairing my rear brakes on my electric bike. I traveled from Ashland to Medford and Grants Pass and let numerous bike mechanics work on it to no avail. I spent a lot of money doing so to the point of frustration that led me to believe it might not be reparable until I went to Dons Bike Center. These guys were not only courteous but genuinely concerned for my predicament and didn't even hesitate to accept the challenge with certainty. They not only repaired my brakes promptly but also repaired a slow leak in the front tire of the two wheel drive system on my bike that is not a conventional repair. By doing so they also advised me to install protective liners in each tire to prevent punctures from blackberries etc. This idea has proven to be vital for the extreme backcountry riding I use my bike for. When I say these guys are professional, in the highest sense of the word, is an understatement. This review is as honest and true as they are are. I have been a customer of Don's Bike Center for over 8 years. This shop is located in the historic downtown section of Grants Pass On G street. From the brick walls to the rustic wood floors and open beam constructions, you know your in a old classic building. Eric, or EZ as I call him is the shop manager and head mechanic. He has a comfortable laid back manner which makes regulars and first timers to the shop feel comfortable. He is also an excellent mechanic. Eric donates his time to the Pistis Ministries Mountain Bike racing team. He helps take care of almost 40 Mt. Bikes during race season. Thanks in part to his efforts, Pistis has won the 2009 OBRA ( Oregon Bike Racing Association) Cross country Cup championships as well as the BAR ( Best All Around Rider) Team awards. .So let me start off by saying Eric is AWESOME. He is so helpful. Always kind. Never hesitates to help someone out and the ALWAYS has a cheery smile on his face. Dons is LUCKY to have such a fine employee. This review is on customer service, not quality of the store. The store has a great selection and lots of accessories. I bought a bike there a few weeks ago and have always bought my gear there. But a few days ago, in the middle of the day . . . Town empty, I parked in front of their store. I was the only car in front of there store. Mind you, when I purchased my bike a few weeks prior I didn't even use that spot haha, I parked in the plaza. Within moments of me walking out of my car just to drop something off for a friend at the clam. The owners wife begins to yell "ma'am! Ma'am stop right now" she then began to treat me like I was incompetent. Asking me if I "could read signs" she didn't even really let me explain that as soon as I dropped of this item I was actually about to go buy a usb chargeable head light from them that I had been waiting for them to get in. I could have bought that cheaper online but I wanted to support local business . . . Just like I could have bought my bike somewhere else. The way the owners wife talked to me was belittling and embarrassing. I literally can not believe a downtown shop owner would talk to a customer like that. I might be young, but that does not merit the disrespect. My family and I just recently bought bikes from there. I guess our thousands of dollars in business wasn't enough to use an empty parking space. And it's not just me. I have seen this woman YELL at people for parking there. She'll go and ask every person "is that your Car"!? "Where did you park"!? Are you kidding me!? That's what your focusing time into? I'm sorry but if I had a business in the heart of downtown, I would have a very different attidtude. And be more companionate. So I'm REALLY BUMMED because I've been going there for years. And I really like Eric and some of the other employees. And I DO want to shop there. But I'd rather go somewhere where the owners treat people with kindness. No matter if they are buying something from them that day . . . I'm just not down with being yelled at in public for no reason. read more
