The Classic Sundae
Erin F.

This is the sort of place that I can't believe I haven't been before, and now that I know about it, I'm going to be back often! And I want to bring visitors and others who don't know about Sugar Shack yet! The building is freshly painted, clean, bright, and fun for photos. The hubcap ceiling was especially cool. There is a drive-through which was pretty crowded as we were there and plenty of seating in a nice turf area. I don't think of Lockland as having many places to visit, but there really is a great view here of the bridge and old Stearns factory and I'm glad that this place is bringing more people out to the area. I'm currently dairy-free so I was pleasantly surprised by all the options, including Italian ice and dole whip. I got the seasonal dole whip flavor, lime, in a waffle cone...upgrading to the homemade waffle cone was worth it! Delicious. My family got a scoop of hand dipped ice cream and a sundae, and enjoyed them. We all thought the prices were pretty reasonable, especially compared to other ice cream spots in the area. The small scoop is $3.75, so I feel it's affordable to bring my kid out for ice cream versus somewhere else where it's six dollars a scoop. The menu is extensive, the staff is friendly, and the charm is unique. This is a must try!

So cute and instagrammable! The vibes here are all things sugar shack nostalgia. We popped in on a weekday around 5 and there was plenty of parking and seats available. We ordered the cotton candy sundae, a blueberry soft serve in a waffle cone, a pup treat, and a root beer float. The waffle cone serving was huge, way bigger than something I'd usually order. It tasted great and as it should. Everyone else enjoyed their treat including the dog. I'm glad we made the trip out to Lockland, highly recommend if you're in the area!

Massive cones. Delicious ice cream. We also got an ice cream cake and everyone at the party loved it!

Such a cute place to go. Ice cream is delicious and the servings are huge. We also got an Oreo ice cream cake and everyone at the Easter party loved it!

Such a cool and cozy family-owned spot. Immediately when I walked ip to the window, the gentleman (who happened to be the owner), greeted me and my son with the warmest welcome. I wanted to try the banana pudding ice cream, which he informed me was his wife's own recipe. I went for a scoop of it as well as a scoop of butter pecan in a waffle cone. YUMMMMM! My son ordered a cookies and cream milkshake which he absolutely LOVED. There was this feeling of love and warmth from the staff here that larger, more commercial spots are unable to duplicate. This is what elevates the experience from good to great. I will return soon and often.

This place is like a dreamy ice cream paradise. The retro vibes and bright blue colors just add to the mood. Their options are nearly limitless, with tons of unique toppings/mix-ins, crazy specialty sundaes, ice cream nachos, and so much more. You can get hand-dipped or soft serve, plus Italian ice and Dole whip for dairy-free. A great spot to bring the whole family.

Made my way back to Sugar Shack! The sundae was a good change up, but nothing over the top. I liked the theme and the presentation of the sundae. As always, the staff was great and the service was quick! The menu is loaded with fun options! I'll definitely be back to try another item

This place is a gem! Check it out! Great soft serve ice cream with fun options at reasonable prices. I had the turtle Sundae and my daughter had the Cadillac cotton candy! About a ten minute drive for us but made for a fun trip after dinner. Highly recommended!

Cute ice cream stand with a drive-in atmosphere from the 60's. Outside picnic tables and a "porch" with the ceiling lined with old hubcaps... how many can you identify? Fun place. Service was good and the prices were pretty good too!

We've been here twice and each time was fantastic. The service is super friendly and quick. The menu is really expansive with lots of options and unique items. It's very clean with lots of seating. Parking is easy also. So far we've tried their take on an Oreo blizzard. They load the toppings and the soft serve is delightful. Also had their dreamsicle concoction that layers vanilla soft serve and orange Italian ice. Mix it together and you get an awesome dreamsicle flavor. Can't wait to go back next season.

My husband and I came here tonight and absolutely loved our experience! The vibe is so fun with a retro diner theme! I love that they have adequate outdoor seating. The ice cream is so creamy and delicious! I love that it's not overwhelming sweet. The flavors are unique! Having the option of things like Italian ice is a nice change as well! Service was incredible. We will definitely be coming back!!

Love this spot! So many amazing flavors and sweet treats to choose from. The ladies working the day I went were amazing - their smiles are contagious! The pup cup was a big hit and I got the hand dipped cookie dough in a waffle cone. So delicious! I was too busy eating it to take a photo but the cookie dough to ice cream ratio was perfect. There are several benches and tables to sit at while you enjoy your treat; it makes for a perfect summer night!

We stopped in to grab a bite around 115p on a sunday - greeted with "you want breakfast or lunch or…read morewhat" we knew they closed at 2p so we said "whatever is easiest". Told to find a seat and we could only order breakfast, fine, no big! Then a gentlemen comes from the kitchen and says hes turning off the open sign and we were the last table ... we get it, you could have just said you were closing early instead of making us feel so unwelcomed. The food was good, made by Lucy herself but the entire time we felt so uncomfortable. The server was sweet when we sat down but never checked on us, got refills or noticed when we were done to drop our check.... We ate quickly, paid our bill and walked out the door by 140p

It was a Sunday and we were immediately told that they are Breakfast only on Sunday. I'm not certain if this is every Sunday or just that day, so keep that in mind. The service was fast and friendly. It wasn't very busy when we stopped in so we didn't have to wait on anything. I had ordered the Strawberry Pancakes. Not to be discouraging, but they weren't anything special. The cakes themselves were quite dense and heavy, so they filled you up easily. The strawberries on top were little to be desired. It was more of a strawberry jam that was put on top. Considering that a solid strawberry topping consists of a few minutes of cooking up fresh strawberries, sugar and water, I was disappointed with the topping. It truly is a bare bones diner. Nothing fancy, but that's okay. Good food and good service goes miles above anything else. They've got the service down perfectly. The only other thing that might be a helpful, yet discouraging, comment would be the front desk area. When you walk in, there is a front counter that you pay at. It's very visible and it's the first thing you see when you walk in. You see the counter and a fish tank right behind it. The state of the counter and the fish tank need work. The counter is cluttered and just looks dirty. Now, if this was an office in the back, so be it. My office is sometimes a cluttered mess. But this dusty cluttered mess is right in the front and center of this restaurant. I can't help but think what areas look like that I can't see. The fish tank would be a nice touch of ambiance however it too is pretty dank and dirty looking. If you're going to have it right there where everyone can see, you need to put a little effort into making it presentable. These may sound like harsh points, but they are honest observations. Would I go back? It's not very local to me, so probably not. But, if I was in the area, I would absolutely give Lucy's Diner another shot at lunch. I wasn't blown away during my first visit.

The spice tastes like pickled jalapeños you'd get with stadium nachos. I'll revisit it since there was a ton of it. The sandwich was amazing. Great crispy bread that wasn't tough. It's hard to find one that does both. Meat was great and well seasoned. We got the tip dip (au jus) to dip it in and that was great. We will definitely be eating here again.

I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, and unfortunately it tasted awful. The chicken salad itself wasn't good, with very large chunks of onion that completely overpowered the flavor. The shop also only offers one type of bread--white--which made the sandwich feel even more plain. Overall, the presentation looked sloppy and the taste was very disappointing. I always like to support local sandwich shops and spread a little love when I can, but this experience just didn't work for me. Sadly, I don't see myself coming back.

I thought they (slaw & banana pudding) were a little pricy for the size, but they were both tasted very fresh and delicous. I bought the slaw to make a slaw dog when I got home, but ended up eating it all up, as is. The banana pudding was absolutely delicious. I was so disappointed when I got home & realize 1/2 of it had spilled into my bag (my fault). For my son's birthday I ordered a large family size banana pudding. It did not disappoint! It was just as delicious as the individual one I had weeks earlier! I would say 3/4 cup would be a serving size. 13 people had some and some had 2nds and the birthday man had 3rds and we still had about a serving or 2 left over (b/c I hid it). I think b/c it was so good we wanted more of it, so depending on your group size & appetite you may want to order more than one or have other desserts on hand to either lure them away from the pudding or to have as back up (that's what I did). I do believe if I would've had another one the other desserts would've gone untouched. Honestly, I did think it was a little pricy for the size, especially since we had another tasty dessert just slightly smaller than the banana pudding size and it was $10. The fact that it was delicious helped, it would've been like adding insult to injury if it would've been pricy and nasty. Certhainly not the case here. Everyone absolutely enjoyed it! Thank you Vonderhaar's. *tip order at least 48hrs in advance, I ordered 24hrs in advance & got lucky. Truly, it's best to call & ask how much notice is needed. Every Saturday we see them grilling out on the sidewalk on Wyoming avenue and wanted to stop by. It's such a fun tradition that's worth the stop off 75- you can take a walk around Wyoming Avenue to the Village Green or Crescent Park if it's a nice day! The shop is neat and cozy inside. They've got a great selection of wines and cold drinks. The only reason I took off a star is that the ordering process can be a little confusing. There was a handwritten sign for sandwiches, and some premade sandwiches in the case. But they looked a little bare- it wasn't clear that they came with toppings, could be warmed up, customized, etc. I took the leap and ordered one- the turkey and Colby on sourdough- and I found out that I could add toppings and that my bread was toasted. But I couldn't see them while making it to know whether it was made fresh or one of the ones in the display case. The sandwich was good- don't get me wrong! But it was a little basic for $13- mayo, lettuce, tomato (light on the toppings), red onion, and pickle. I think one thing that could've helped was some more specialty condiments- Dijon or dark mustard, a speciality aioli, etc. and the pickles were room temp dark green pickles (not fresh). Some fresh, crunchy homemade pickles would have taken this to the next level and really amplified that high quality meat that you're paying for. To the same point, none of the yummy looking salads or sides were labeled in the case. How much were they? Did they contain allergens? Could I get them as a side for my sandwich? Overall a great spot and we'll be back! But I'm left wondering if I'm getting the full experience or not because of the lack of ordering instructions inside. Oh- the staff were friendly and I'm sure could make up the difference! They happened to be busy because of the busy festival outside though, so I'm sure on a normal day they'd be able to provide more information.

This place has tons of parking which is free. The pricing for mini golf was really good better than anywhere else - unlimited and two different 18-hole courses (I will say the courses itself could use an upgrade - new paint or adding some objects to the course to make the established holes a bit more challenging. We paid 9 dollars per person. The driving range was also pretty cheap for buckets of balls - it would be a fun afternoon to bring the dads for driving range, the kids for mini golf and the moms can eat food and hang or enjoy the range as well. The food looked good, but we did not partake - the drinks were decently well priced - a can of beer 3.50 - a sway was 6 bucks. They have free concerts every now and then at their art installation, which is pretty cool, I also think it's cool how they do 5 buck Mondays. The staff was nice enough, my only complaint is the grass was a little overgrown, so we got ate up with chiggers and skeeters.
