Small diner with a large parking area in the back, which was good. Came here for a business meeting..wasn't really that hungry, but when someone else is paying... Very nice and personable staff greets you on the way in and out. Our waitress took a bit of time to wait on us, but she was sweet and apologetic, and I think she was the only one working, so... Ordered a tea (which I didn't drink because the water was lukewarm at best), grits and an omelette with spinach, tomato, and feta. The grits were very creamy, but needed a ton of butter and seasoning, as did the omelette... It was a decent experience, but there are too many options for me to return again.

Eat at your own risk!!! My uncle stopped in yesterday and included cake in his order. Among 3 of the slices 1 was was covered in mold. I don't know about you but, this is completely unacceptable for me. We ended up tossing all the cakes because we didn't want to risk it. If you dare too, my best advise is to check all your food before leaving.

This place has always been on my list to dine. Yes, the service is a hit or miss. However, if you get a good server who takes pride in his/her hospitality and putting their guest first; you are in for a treat. This Diamond in the rough is earning back my business since post pandemic. If in the area, give them a try. It's a cozy spot that welcomes all and the place is pretty simple, not flashy. They also have an all you can eat self-serve buffet Friday -Sunday. You can call them directly for more details.

I have been to Don's Diner several times before the pandemic and always enjoyed the food. I go on the weekend for the take out buffet. Post pandemic you were able to serve yourself. Now they have workers that prepare the plates for you. I like that idea and they have mask on. I took a star away because I feel like they should have gloves on as well. Their fingers have to touch the inside of the plate to pick it up. All the food was hot and looked delicious. I am thankful that I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't go hungry because you can fill your plate pretty quickly. The servers did exactly as I requested not wanting large pieces or potions. Great service. My daughter didn't like her oxtails and said the sweet potato's are under cooked. Everything else was good. All was good on my plate except the Turkey wing was super dry. I added a slice of strawberry cheesecake. Total bill....$42.00. That's really pricy for a togo plate but it's $10.15 per pound. I do have specific things I love to eat from Don's Diner so will return in the future but will not try anything new I haven't had before.

This place is no joke if you're dying for some serious soul food action. I was kind of in the area and I read about the epic soul food buffet so I gave it a whirl on a Sunday afternoon. In aggregate the food was pretty darn tasty, although I did feel dizzy after eating what felt like an uncanny amount of sodium and grease. My favorite buffet items were the wings, fried fish, baby back ribs, string beans and another type of cajun spiced fish that escapes me. The banana pudding was also killer. You know it's good when I ate to the point I wanted to literally fall asleep on my chair (which I nearly did) and ended up passing out when I got home from a food coma. I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, though I also came in right around the time when many were coming after church so the whole vibe was a bit more formal than I anticipated. However, the folks here were super friendly and very helpful with recommendations. I had a great time overall. It's also nice they have a fairly big parking lot, though it definitely gets super packed there so be warned. Overall it's a solid place for soul food but you'll likely end up passing out like me after the meal.

Great burger! The sauce on the burger was awesome. We all did the specials. An interesting twist on sauerkraut.

Went for Brunch Sunday, missed our appetizer, but the owner was extremely apologetic. Picked up the cost of our beverages. The Benedict was awesome. Lori had the truffled eggs and they were the bomb. I would highly recommend that dish. A little slow with coffee and drinks but a must visit.

I was thoroughly impressed! To date, I've ordered the Jerk Chicken platter AND the Signature Fried Chicken platter and they were BOTH absolutely delicious, striking that perfect balance of wholesome goodness and rich flavor that defines great comfort food! In addition, both meals came with a complementary side of cornbread that was exceptionally good..fresh fluffy, and moist!! The portions are generous and everything was seasoned to perfection, avoiding being overly salty or bland. It truly tasted like a home-cooked meal.. If you're craving authentic, satisfying Soul Food with hearty servings, this place is an absolute must-try. I'll definitely be ordering from them again!

It came with 2 pieces of fish, two sides and a piece of cornbread. For my sides , I got baked Mac & cheese and collard greens. Everything was tasty. The fish was fried and seasoned well and wasn't greasy. The baked Mac & cheese was delicious and my favorite part of the meal. The collard greens were flavorful. I don't typically like cornbread but I enjoyed theirs. I would definitely order from here again.

As we entered the restaurant, the floors were "crunchy", sticky and tacky. I assume they mopped the dining room with the same mop they use to clean the greasy floors in the kitchen. They don't have high chairs, So we spent most of the time with our toddler in our lap. The sweet tea tasted off, sour almost. Had to give it back to the server because I couldn't stomach it. Had my husband taste it, and he immediately agreed that something was wrong with it. The plastic utensils were such a turn off. We're dining in, is it too much of a hassle to give your customers actual silverware?? Got fish and grits. Potatoes, toast and eggs. Honestly, the only flavorful item on my plate was the potatoes and eggs. Was upcharged to add cheese to my grits, but the cheese never melted. Pre shredded bagged cheese is what they have on hand it seems. My husband ordered shrimp and grits and asked for a side of eggs, but that arrived 15 minutes after we all received our food. Not sure why it took so long so cook up 2 eggs for him. He was also disappointed in his brunch. It was obvious they used frozen bagged shrimp. Probably the 26-30/lb because the shrimp were really small and had the nerve to be overcooked. Workers just seemed disheveled. Not sure what happened to Vondas but it fell off for sure. We're not from Newark and would travel here for years. Not anymore. This is the end of an era, definitely won't be back. Absolutely don't recommend.

However, this place wasn't bad. It has more of a Caribbean flare than southern. Still, delicious! Before the food, there's the service. I stopped in to make an order to-go. I was greeted upon entry and given the space/time to browse the menu before ordering. I partially knew what I wanted prior to coming; who doesn't take a peek at the menu beforehand, right?! The gentleman behind the counter who took my order was pleasant and patient. The food - I ordered a chicken dinner that consisted of henny wings (4) with 2 sides (mac & cheese, candied yams). And added an extra side of brussel sprouts, they looked too good to ignore. lso, I went on a Saturday but they seem to have pretty good deals going on during the week. My wings were delicious and flavorful. Pretty decent size for full wings, not stingy at all. I could have used a little more sauce, just a personal preference. Now the sides, they were just okay, except the brussels - they were AMAZING. The mac & cheese needed more cheese, it wasn't ooey gooey at all. The yams were good, a different type of sweet than the usual candied flavor. Eh. Ambiance - it's a quaint place with a few seats to relax while you wait. The wait wasn't bad being that your food is made to order. I will absolutely be back to try more menu items and get plenty more brussels. They're the star!!!

Over an hour and a half later, still didn't have the food, and it turns out that they had completely lost the order and didn't say anything, despite the fact that we were waiting there in the restaurant. Is the food any good? I'll never know. Normally I ignore this type of review, but there are plenty of other reviews that mention this same thing, so I'm guessing this is simply part of their experience.
