I love this place. I have loved it since it used to be Mr. Donut when I was a child. I always get the same thing...Swiss Chocolate filled donuts and Strawberry Shortcake Donuts. You cannot find another donut with that flavor profile anywhere in the world. Trust me, I have looked. I have found amazing creme filled donuts, but nothing like the Swiss chocolate or strawberry shortcake anywhere. I don't really get anything else here. The other donuts like the glazed are a bit above average but I haven't found any other knockouts other than the ones I mentioned. If you can catch them early enough in the morning when they are baking them fresh and stuffing them you can ask them to really stuff the donuts you buy and that's the way I like them but I'm almost never there that early. Usually I'm passing through on my way to or from NC. My kids love a bunch of the other flavors of donuts and they do have a bunch. Service is usually quick and friendly. Donuts are an essential part of any road trip in my house, so when I saw Donut Connection just off 77, I knew I needed to stop in! Based on the humble exterior, I wasn't expecting much, but I was instantly charmed by the retro, homey feel of the interior. It was like stepping into a scene of a 1950s sitcom! I couldn't believe the variety of donuts: exotic flavors like honeydew, seasonal selections like pumpkin, and even decadent eclairs filled with chocolate or Bavarian crème. I instantly noticed the "Dutch crumb" donut, which is coated in coffee cake crumbs and reminiscent of my favorite, now-defunct, donut from Dunkin: Butternut. Adding to the old-school theme, Donut Connection is the only place I know that still makes donuts with handles for dipping into coffee! The donuts at Donut Connection can only be described as out-of-this-world delicious. I was blown away by the rich chocolate icing and the moist cake donut base. My mom loved her pumpkin donut cream cheese frosting, and my sister enjoyed the pink and white icing on her eclair. All of the donuts were fresh and still warm, which made our experience even better! I have called the shop FOR DAYS and no one will answer. I will go to spring street despite this being right down from my work and home. I had a bad experience last spring with you and placed an order in advance. My order was not ready and a note was left for me that you could not fill my order. I was disappointed a year ago and had to scramble and go to Krispy crème to fill my order. No one called me or let me know my order wouldn't be completely filled until I showed up. Donuts for the customer on what I hope is my last day in Charlie West. Donut Connection is a small parking lot, but super easy to access with the layout of the offramps and the bridge. It's a little harder if you want to get back onto I64-E/I-77S. I asked for two Boston Kreme and let the girl fill in the rest. I was bummed when I got back to the office and stepped out to make coffee. When I came back, BOTH of them were gone! Argh! Six bucks for the donuts and a dollar in the tip jar. It was my first time so the workers were incredibly helpful in narrowing down my options. We settled with the cronut, cruller, and chocolate glazed donut. I loved it all! I'm not gonna lie, I'm salivating just thinking about how fluffy and moist it was. The cruller was very eggy, which I loved, and the cronut was amazing! It was my first one ever and I can't wait to try more! From outside looking in, I wasn't expecting the donuts to be as good as they were. The chocolate donut was a cake donut, so if that's not your thing, make sure you ask which ones are cake donuts vs. traditional donuts! This is the second time that I've been to this Donut Connection location and they were closed before their posted hours of operation. Last time I was there about 10 minutes before they were supposed to close and knocked on the door wanting coffee and the girl literally poured two pots of coffee into the sink while she was telling me they were closed. This time, two customers standing outside at 1045 pm ready to spend money and we were told they were closed. Last time it said online that they closed at midnight and I let them know that. Over the course of 3 months, I have discovered that the time of day nor day of week makes a difference to my conclusion that 97.8% of all their baked goods were originally made sometime in the year 2014. Seriously. How does a donut shop not even smell like baked goods?? The reason is everything is old, dry, and stale. The only saving grace are the muffins. They're probably just as old and dusty as everything else but they're wrapped in plastic wrap so that helps. read more
