I've had friends visit me in Massachusetts, from all over the place. The one thing they all have in common, they remark how many Dunkin Donuts we have here. Two on every corner. We may be the Dunkin Donuts capital of the world. Donut King is a refreshing change from Dunkin, and frankly offers some of the best donuts in the state. Donut King has ridiculously awesome glazed donuts (I think they call them honey dipped), but either way they are big, flaky, and gooey. They blow away Dunkin Donuts! The best part is that 'inivisble crust' that forms around the Donut King donut. As soon as you bite into it, that clear crust cracks and tiny pieces of white icing cling to your lips. It's donut bliss. I suggest you go here and get donuts. I am happy donut king isn't close to my house, I'd eat there all the time. I was unsure of what to expect as reviews on Yelp cover a broad range, but after a Sunday morning donut run...I'm a huge fan. There is a great selection of donuts here, but to get the full array you definitely need to go on the earlier side. At 8:30 AM on a Sunday morning, I was able to choose from at least 15 varieties...not to mention the huge assortment of pastries they also offer (muffins, croissants, danishes, etc.) The price is RIGHT. For about $6.50, I got a half-dozen donuts (lemon creme x2, Boston creme, chocolate honey glaze, honey glaze and jelly filled). They were amazing...hands down probably one of the best donuts I've ever had. Light and fluffy (with the exception of the chocolate - that bad boy was dense), great filling ratio...so good. The store sells lottery tickets, cigarettes and candy as well (a slightly confusing business model, but they know their clientele and if that's what they want, more power to them!). If you don't like it, take your donut and leave. read more

I had a craving for donuts and drive by this place all the time and wanted to check it out. I got a half dozen of speciality donuts for ~$19.50 which is a lot for donuts but why not splurge since it had been a long time. Sadly, tasting them, some were great like the kit kat, oreo and cinnamon toast crunch, however was really disappointed with the cannoli and the Ferrero Roche. The cannoli had very little cream and didn't taste much like a cannoli. It was an okay donut. The ferrero roche sadly was basically a glorified glazed donut with a bit of chocolate frosting and a candy on top... it wasn't even cut or filled on the inside with anything like the others. Overall it was good and my craving was satisfied but be careful with which donuts you get. read more

All the donuts are made in house and there is a large assortment of flavors! Their specialty donuts are unreal! Favors like Maple Bacon, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruit Pebbles and Creme Brûlée just to name a few! Stopped in and grabbed a half dozen on New Year's Eve. At about 8:30 AM the selection was extensive... I had a hard time deciding which ones to order and was a bit impulsive (totally unlike me.) I also snagged an apple turnover and a cinnamon twist. The donuts and pastries were shared at a brunch with friends so I only tried the butternut, coconut and chocolate honey glazed. They were all solid. I was told the Boston Creme was tasty and the lemon and blackberry (I think?) were untouched so I sent them home with a pal. The pastries I did sample and they were good, albeit a bit dry the next day (not unexpected.) Service was very friendly, efficient and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. NEVER will I give my business to this place. I heard of Donut King before moving to the South Shore area, and how freshly-made their donuts are. It was only 2 weeks ago (before this review) that my wife's cousin had a box of donuts from the business, and let me have one to try. Yes, the donut was excellent, without a doubt. This gave me reason to try and get some of their product on my own during the subsequent weekend. I went the following weekend (of my trying the donut, courtesy of my wife's cousin), and arrived to no people, no lights, no nothing going on. I got out and read a sign taped to the door, stating they were (to paraphrase), "...closed to attend graduation". Listen, I understand small/independent businesses have more "freedom" with their operating hours, but to not open at all for an entire day solely to attend personal matters is not thinking on behalf of the customers who support your business. I would expect at least one person could've been there to sell whatever donuts they could've made the night before. I suppose the customer takes a back seat to their personal life. Fast forward to the weekend after that (which is today). I finally drove 5 minutes from where I live to have attempt # 2 at buying some of Donut King's donuts. Once I enter the establishment, here's what I see being offered: cookies, some type of cake/cupcakes, and for donuts....honey dipped. Yes, I was hoping to get one of their supposed many varieties of donuts (possibly old fashioned or chocolate glazed). Nope...the "Donut King" had ONE TYPE OF DONUT available to buy. Keep in mind, this is around 10:15am. If they've been in business as long as they apparently have been, I don't understand how you can only make enough donuts to last until 10:15am. At that point, is their feeling, "I guess he's s**t out of luck?" As a potential customer, you're supposed to cater to me & my schedule/product needs. It's obvious that at Donut King, you're supposed to cater to their personal life and accept their lack of foresight as to not offering a variety of the one product they name their business after...DONUTS. Come on it's a donut shop and it's 9:30 in the morning on a Saturday. I love do nuts! In the greater Boston area Kane's donuts have to this date reigned supreme but there is now a south shore alternative Donut King in Weymouth. Do yourself a favor and go to DK and see what donuts are supposed to be ! The DK people are not as upscale as their north shore peers but it isn't because of the Donuts. Ok, one thing about my reviews- I base them on service and food. Ambiance and esthetics for me personally don't matter so long as the place is clean. That said, the food and donuts here were excellent. The service was as well. My only complaint is that this place is cold. Literally. We sat in the booths by the restrooms and it was freezing.
