I spent the weekend with my family hanging out in LA, we are from the SF bay area. We stayed at hotel not far from Donut Prince one night after dinner I decided to stop there after passing by a few times. I consider myself a donut aficionado so when I'm in different cities I try donut shops. The night before we were at universal City walk and we tried Voodoo donuts and they were ok they were pretty but missed the mark of taste and texture. The first one we got from donut prince was a cinnamon roll with nuts on the top it was soooooo good that I regret letting my wife try it, between her and my youngest daughter I did not get as much as I would have liked. I wasn't too upset because I figured I would just get one tomorrow wrong they didnt have any ,we were going to leave the next day which was Sunday morning we get there around 930 am someone bought all of them!! I was pissed I complained to the guy whose made the donuts he gave me a free donut to go with the other ones that I bought. Nice gesture. I bought some glazed, apple fritters, old fashioned glazed, butter milk bars and cinnamon rolls and cinnamon twists. The were all very good! Not my favorite. I guess i'm not a huge fan of hole in the wall donut shops. The service was pretty bad and the egg sandwich I got was average. I haven't tried the donuts yet so I bet those are great. Better service would make this place great. I will probably not be going back. read more

Decided to pick up a dozen assorted for my birthday at our office. The price was BEYOND fair and reasonable! $14.99 for 12 doughnuts that aren't just glazed? Great! Along with that the doughnuts are fresh and some of the best I've had in LA. Always consistent, always good, and (extra perk!) there is parking. read more

Now I never have to the drive all the way to DK's in Santa Monica to get my cronut fix! I was greeted by, whom I believe, is the owner with a "good morning" and an inviting smile. I went in with one goal, and one goal only - to try their cronut. It was warm and flaky, and I couldn't have imagined it better. The guy working at 9:30pm, Thursday April 17th was extremely angry. So much so that he didn't want to sell any donuts!! Barely any donuts available and when we asked which ones were fresh he angrily stated he didn't care and just told us to get donuts. Then as we were leaving he knocked his fists against the glass!! I went in to buy a donut and decided to get a dozen donuts. Every time I picked a donut it was $.75 extra I was confused I get donuts all the time they're just one price but they want to charge me the price of the donut and $.75 extra for filled doughnut where I get filled donuts for the same price no extra charge so I just walk out. read more

I've been a customer of the Donut Prince for 2 years now. The donuts can taste a bit old at times. I usually go between 10pm to 12am. I really don't know of any other local donut shops that are open that late. The old fashioned donuts are my favorite. They taste the same everywhere though. the employees seem out of it for the most part. They should work on their customer service skills. $ 1.60 for two old fashioned donuts is a bit high. read more

please note: my 4-star review is based SOLELY on the Apple Fritter, which is the star of the shop. apple fritters are a curious thing. everyone has their own idea of what one should be. if you order an apple fritter from krispy kreme be prepared to want to order 400 more because they're cheaper than flagstone at home depot if you're in the mood to re-pave your walkway. if you order an apple fritter from donut prince, be prepared to want to order 400 more because they're downright heavenly. an apple fritter should have nooks and crannies, a small dice of fresh apple throughout dotting the tender, yeasty, chewy-soft dough, a fragrant swirl of good quality cinnamon, a crispy-buttery FRIED exterior and a thin, delicate simple glaze of powdered sugar mixed with a bit of water to thin it and will fill your tummy by the time you're halfway through yet your inner fatass will continue to finish the pastry because you just...can't...stop..eating it. and that is exactly what you get at Donut Prince. my only gripe with DP is the cash-only payment. they DO provide an atm in the shop but it would serve them well to install an atm that provides increments of $10 since taking out $20 to buy donuts is a huge drawback IMO. read more

My co-worker David H. (see review on 8/24/13) sometimes brings in donuts from this place. Sometimes he shares. A couple times Dave "forgot" his wallet and they fronted him a dozen donuts anyway. They knew Dave was good for it since he is there twice a day. I'd like this place more if they had vegan options; so, three stars for Donut Prince. WHAT HAPPENED??? I have been to this place a hundred times and it's always been a 5 star experience. The last couple of times I have been, the owners weren't there so now I am wondering if they possibly sold it. The donuts I tried were decent. The problem was the guy running the place. As I was paying for the donuts, I dropped a buck into the tip jar. When I was trying to sign the slip, the guy here was pushing for a tip and pointing to the tip jar. I couldn't really hear him well so I had to have him repeat it a couple of times. First off, he shouldn't be recommending that someone place a tip. Good service, hell, even halfway decent service will usually get a tip from me. This place is great. Awesome fresh donuts every time! The croissants are wicked good. The ham and cheese one when warmed up! Wow just wow I'm a regular here so every other day I'm here. For some reason I have been on a quest to find a non trendy divey donut nirvana stop......The Donut Prince is not it. The test of every good donut shop for me is the standard glazed donut and this one did not pass the test. It almost tasted like the oil had been used one too many times, not the fresh yeasty dreaminess that I was looking for. I had two bites and trashed it. This is the absolute worst donut shop I've ever been to! The employee refused to make more coffee and give utensils. The owner came because I mentioned that the chocolate croissant was hard and he started to yell at me that I was wrong. He yelled at a few customers for agreeing with me. When I walked through the door groups of senior citizens were clustered at nearby tables. I thought uh-oh, I just walked into a Krispy Kreme knock-off with an early bird special. Feigning for a nice cup of tea I gave in, but seriously contemplated looking elsewhere. As I ordered my tea the donuts/muffins/etc in the glass case were talking to me...SERIOUS! I was starving and once I bit into my blueberry scone and my tastebuds said TGINS (Thank God it's not Starbucks!). Nice, flaky. fresh and fruity. Tea was nice too. Prices are just a little high but there just isn't else along Olive where you can find something similar. read more

Where do my friend Amber and I go when we're craving donuts at 1 a.m.? Donut Prince of course! After a guy at another donut joint sneezed, we quickly made our exit and headed to the promised land, er, Donut Prince. It's right by the Vons on Olive, has a yellow retro sign. They close for a few minutes late at night, but quickly reopen for those who are craving something sweet and sugary. The donuts are cheap, try the apple fritters and anything with the white powder on top and white cream inside. The inside is pretty no-frills, but you get the authentic donut "parlor" feel when you go here. They have drinks and random things like eggs here too. read more

Came in today for an chai ice tea with boba and an avocado, egg, and cheese croissant and paid $10.10, way too expensive! While Ive no complaints about the drink, the avocado in my croissant was almost rubbery as the avocado was obviously not ripe, some of the skin was also attached to it, it was so horrible I had to throw the other half away. Poor service and I will def not ever buy this particular item here again. I guess the fact that there was only one person working behind the counter didn't help this matter. This place sucks! I asked for a ham & cheese croissant this morning and got all the way home to discover that I was given just a croissant. I went back and told the staff, and they said that I did not ask for that originally...ok sure. They charged me the difference for the replacement. My family and I have been coming here for over 15 yrs and the food and service never disappoints. If you haven't been to Donut Prince, try their blueberry muffins, apple fritters, bagel rancheros and ham and cheese croissants with jalapeno! These are all of our favorites. Also, I always crack a little smile when I walk up to the door and see that they are closed from 1:00am to 2:00am. One of these days I'll stay up late enough to find out if its true. read more

Love Donut Prince, the donuts are always fresh and delicious. The ham and cheese croissants are the BEST in town! This is the where you want to come pick up a couple dozen donuts to surprise your office or kid's classroom with, it's also the spot you hope to have time to swing by before a really early morning flight or road trip. When I drive by late at night - I speed up just a little to prevent myself from wanting to stop and eat a donut at some off the wall time at night. The family who owns the place is sweet. What can I say, we're fans of Donut Prince and I'm a picky donut eater. I don't get the whole Dunkin Donuts east coast thing and I recently learned donut stores aren't as common in other states - we are spoiled that they are on almost every corner but this one is one we trust. I'm not quite sure how a spinach croissant ($1.80) and an Arizona tea ($0.99) added up to be over four dollars but I'm willing to let it slide just this once. I buy the "Friday donuts" for our office from Donut Prince. I get 2 dozen, and when I get to work, they are gone within about 5 minutes. The plain glazed are the donut of choice for many of my coworkers, but the apple fritters are my personal fave. Mmmmmmmmm... donuts! read more

I don't know what to say but last night when I went to break a peace off a peanut butter filled donut ... two earwigs came out.

Well I ordered a dozen donuts, and I had asked if they'd give me 14 because they had a sign for Buy 6 get one free. So I though i would see if I got two extras. She said no because they sell the dozen at a lower cost than 12 individual donut as I think I understood her. Fine, I get it. So I get 12 and get home realizing that they charged me extra for 5 of my donut choices. As I picked them out she never said anything. So, I paid a couple of extra dollars instead of the $11 as their sign said. So, I was upset went back and he said well we will just change them for "Regualr" donuts. He began putting them back on the shelf. I said, wait, your putting them back? What if I touched them? He asked, did you? I said no, but you can't just put those back on the shelf. So then I just asked for my money back. What they should have done was honor the price and make sure next time they tell the customer, a certain donut is more. (There were not prices nor names next to any to identify "regular" donuts). But the thing that really got me and made me want to not go there and return what I had purchased was the owners not wasting them and putting them on the shelf AGAIN to be resold to someone else. That can not be sanitary. Sorry. No go for me. I wonder if my donuts had been resold to me??? Gross! read more
