This is a small shop with a limited selection. What they do have are really good. I especially like the chocolate iced. They dip a glazed doughnut in the chocolate for the topping. It like getting two doughnuts in one. The lady working there in the morning is really nice too. read more

I don't get it. Is this the same Donut Star chain as the one off of Alton in Irvine? If it is, it does not have the same quality or offerings. The donuts here do not taste fresh. They taste like they've been there overnight or sitting out all day. Compared to the donuts from the Alton location, this place is sad. There are far fewer choices at this location. They don't offer cronut holes like the other location. I don't even think they make any donuts fresh on site. I don't know why anyone would come unless you live around here as there are no other donut shops around. I'm not a fan of this place and recommend going to the Alton location instead. read more

I originally didn't like this location because there was a lady who worked here who was super rude to me and my husband every time we stopped by. However, as of lately, I haven't seen her so my experience has been good! I am addicted to their ham & cheese croissants. It's a must! They take credit cards- minimum purchase $5 though. Highly recommend! read more

Donuts here are nothing fancy, it's your standard donuts with reasonable prices. I am giving less stars because the person helping me obviously had a flu but was working. I threw away the donut bag right after I got home and also thought about throwing the entire bag out with the donuts. They also had an ancient POS and no contact-less payment system. I will not return. read more

If you want any semblance of choice in your donut, you'd have to arrive by 830a. I came at 915 once and had choice of white sprinkle cake donut or white sprinkle cake donut. So I got the white sprinkle cake donut and it was delicious, the better slightly lemony (a lovely surprise!). On another day I managed to swing by at 845 and they still had several options! So I grabbed a glazed donut, and it was large and delicious. A solid donut shop that rewards the early birds. read more

Northwood location review - Came in early in the am for 6 dozen donuts and the gentleman that waited on me was super annoyed I ordered that many donuts. If I didn't need to get to work early, I would've left and went to another donut store. Our workplace wants to support local shops but after this experience perhaps going back to Dunkin Donuts might not be a bad idea. The donuts themselves are good. Not much seating inside but there is a big patio area to have coffee and a donut. Do not come here for anything more than 2 dozen unless you order in advance. We do come here for one or two separate donuts. read more

My new donut place!! Love the selections and always taste fresh! Cronuts are awesome here (though a bit of a splurge). Fast, friendly service every time I go! They offer online ordering, too, which is super convenient (but watch the cut-off time for placing them). I ordered a dozen donut variety online and it was packaged and ready for pick up by the requested time. The donuts they picked were great, too - a variety and not just the same things. We got muffins, not donuts. $1.75 each for a decent sized muffin, but they were just okay. A little on the dense, chewy side. I was in there around 7:30 am on a weekday, and I have to say I was a little surprised at the lack of selection in donuts (and muffins). The shelves looked half empty. My other complaint is that the employee was not friendly at all. No hello, no smile. Friendliness goes a long way and probably would have made my experience better. read more

UPDATE: Ordered another 6 dozen for a fundraiser again this year and my experience was the same as the year before as far as friendly and ready on time/ease of placing order. The donuts were delicious and fresh! Ordered the day before 6 dozens to pick up the following morning for a fundraiser. If you live in North Irvine, Donut Star is the place to go. It's the kind of local place where you can grab some sweet treats and run into friends. PRICE: $8.50/dozen. More for the fancier donuts. Credit cards allowed for orders of $5 or more. VARIETY: You're not going to find bacon donuts or anything really out there or avant garde at Donut Star but you will find all the classics - sprinkles, twists, maple bars, jelly filled, etc. YEAST DONUTS: The yeast donuts are nice and fluffy just as they should be. Solid choice but not spectacular. CAKE DONUTS: Donut Star's cake donuts stand out. I've never had a problem with them being dry. My favorite is the blueberry donut, which basically tastes like a fried blueberry muffin. Sure, it's probably from some kind of industrial mix but they sure are tasty. Friendly customer service. I usually come in to buy $10 worth of donuts and they always give me a free donut. Today, I brought both kiddos and they gave me a free donut twist and some donut holes as well. My kids love the donut holes there. They also have bagels and bagel sandwiches so it's a one stop shop for breakfast. Their donuts are always fresh and delicious. Open 24 hours! Yaya!... When I'm in Irvine, I go here to fulfill all my blueberry donut needs. Soft and cakey in the inside with a nice, light glaze on the outside. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm... **They also have a variety of cheap donuts...sprinkled, chocolate, frosted, holes, cakey, and crullers with and without the frosting. I saw some other pastries and croissant looking things too but my eyes are always glued on the blueberry donuts. Drinks can be purchased too here. ** Super fresh donuts between 6-10am I heard. I always seem to go here late around 10 or 11pm on the weekend so it's a good sign that the donuts don't taste old stale this late. ** Some seating inside and outside. read more

The kids asked for donuts and after being unimpressed with Dunkin' we popped into Donut Star. This is our new favorite joint for fresh melt in your mouth donuts that aren't overly sweet. At 9:45 they still had a great selection and the prices are great! After choosing 5 normal sized donuts we couldn't resist the cake box sized glaze with sprinkles. Shame on me for being lazy. I needed to get about 3 dozen donuts for my kid's class party and since I haven't had a donut in eons, I took on the onerous task of tasting donuts from a few places in the area to see which place had the best goods. I tried the Donut Star in Irvine which was good, but I liked DK's in Tustin the best because the donut didn't have that overly oily or greasy taste - it was perfectly light and airy and not overly sweet. Buuut, after running around the morning of the party getting last minute items I figured, eh, what the hell, just get Donut Star instead since I had to stop by a store in the same shopping center there. I called ahead to make sure they'd have 3 dozen glazed donuts available and they said yes, they even provide a discount for larger orders. When I went to pick up the donuts I noticed that I didn't get the discount advertised and asked about it only to be told that you have to place the order at least 24 hours in advance to get the discount. Okkurr, didn't mention that on the phone. In fact, why say you offer a discount if you know it's not going to apply? But more than that, the 2 stars is because the donuts were pretty lackluster and the glaze was overly sweet. In fact, in a room full of kids, several of them only ate a fraction of the donut and commented that it was too sweet to finish. If you're going in just to pick up a donut or two, make sure you go early. When I arrived mid-morning the display case was almost entirely empty. As in, maybe a total of 10-12 donuts left in total. Even if I were a donut lover, I probably wouldn't return. read more

I live across the street from Donut Star, and after coming here a few times..this is my go-to donut shop. Their donuts are always fresh and of course there are more options the earlier you come. It's a nice place to sit and eat if you've got the time, there are some tables inside and right outside the door. The Latina women are always sweet and I've been helped my an Asian man who is also very nice. I prefer grabbing food or coffee here rather than Champagne a few doors down, they are way overpriced for okay food. read more

I don't know what's up with this location, I have been to this place twice now, usually right around 9:15, and both times they had less than 20 donuts left in their display case. They same guy tells me they had a busy morning, basically once they run out, that's it!!!! Then the only option left is coffee. They should change the name to Coffee Star. read more

This review is for the croissants only. Very solid croissant for a donut shop. Lots of donut shops have decent croissants if you're in a pinch though! The croissant here is good for many reasons. 1. Its HUGE 2. Crispy on the outside and soft inside 3. Its not trying to be fancy, its just trying to be good...and good it is. 4. Consistency isn't super croissant like inside...its flaky...but in a way that a biscuit is flaky...a little more dense than your normal croissant I guess this is more like a biscuit croissant than a croissant...but seriously, there is nothing wrong with that, its so delicious! Definitely a great breakfast croissant if you are in a rush! read more

I love this place! First of all it is a local business right behind my home so it is close and convenient and it's a great feeling to support local business owners! I went here for the first time this past sunday and was impressed! I've heard that you have to get here early because the donuts fly off the shelf when they are fresh. I got there around 8:30 on Sunday morning and there was a small line, but in my opinion that is a good sign! Service was quick and professional with a smile! The selection of donuts was amazing and the presentation was beautiful! I ordered a dozen donuts and couldn't wait to eat them. The donuts were so soft and tasty and melt in your mouth! They were a hit with everyone so you know I'm going back here for more. As a realtor in this area, I like to take donuts to the home inspections, and you can be sure that I have found my new favorite spot! read more

This is the best donut bakery ever that I'v seen. Donut star is even better than the other donut bakeries in my home town and state.This morning I went there with my relatives for a nice treat and when we got our donuts it looked so delicious that I could have this all day. So when I tasted my chocolate frosted glaised donut it had a lot of sweetness in it and the best part was that it was a short line and wasn't taking time to be made. This is worth waiting for and wish this place good luck as their business grows with more profits than ever. read more

I got there at 930 am and there was less than a dozen donuts left w/ no plans of making more w/ 3.5 hrs left til closing. Clearly, the donuts I wanted were not available, so I ended up w/ the chocolate frosting donut. It was no better than any other donut shop. Disappointed w/ the few selection remaining but clearly, people must love it since im assuming they had more earlier in the morning. read more

While their donuts and croissants are good there is less than a 50% chance they'll even have what you are looking for. They are always out of stuff to the point we stopped going there. We go to the Donut Star on Jamboree for a sure shot of getting what we want. The lady there always even gives us a free donut or 2 at that location (Jamboree/Irvine Blvd) read more

Worst customer service ever!!! The cashier is this huge guy huffing, puffing, and sighing as he takes your order and throws your donuts into a bag. He doesn't even have the courtesy of folding it shut so the donut won't fall out onto the table and he collects your money. We only bought 3 donuts. Was that really too much work? read more

I came in today on a Saturday morning a little after 10:00 and they were already out of donuts except for 3 unpopular ones. This is not the first time this has happened. The owner asked me a few weeks ago why I haven't been coming in as much and that is the reason. Their donuts are delicious, but their lack of availability makes this location undependable. read more

Donut star is a great quick stop for some breakfast with the kids. They are friendly, and fast service. I think their best deal is the donut holes. I believe they are $.10 each! They have a good selection of drinks, and as long as you're there by 10AM, the donut lineup is still well intact. It's a great 1-2 punch if you need to hit Albertson's and you want a quick donut. read more

Love this place! Went in for donuts this morning, it was not to busy! I came in specifically for apple fritters/donuts. Then I saw they have Crossants. so I asked for a ham and cheese, and they guy behind the counter says good morning to my husband, I'm sure noticing that he's mexican.. So he looks at me and says do you want one with Jalepenos!!?? I say YES!!! Do we look like we don't like Jalepenos!!:) The best thing I have eaten in a long time! It was Delicious!! We ate it all by the time we were out of the parking lot. It was Cheesy, Hammy, and the jalepenos tasted fresh from mason jar. (the homemade pickled kind) It was fabulous!!! And I say dripping everywhere bc by the time he finished the last cup/. The others were melted from taking so long. They should probably just stick to donuts if they can't fully support the ice cream products. If I knew now/ I wouldn't have chosen to try there for ice cream. Very unfortunate, bc we probably would have loved the ice cream - but the experience clearly trumped the product.

And walked away leaving me with my drink as is. Didn't offer any sort of resolution. I walked in and asked they could charge me extra for the foam. The same girl with the attitude remade my drink and handed it to me. No thank you, no sorry, nothing. First time experiencing this kind of service. The orange flavor was phenomenal and I have no notes. We also got the strawberry donut and hot chocolate with almond milk, both obviously very good as well. It was my first time getting the hot chocolate and I was honestly surprised with how yummy it was. It was not too chocolatey and not too milky. It was the perfect balance and the perfect pairing with the donuts.

They also sell mochi donuts -- this looks like a rebrand Bober Tea shop that's known for their "stir fried" boba. The brown sugar boba in our drinks tasted like the super soft and flavorful boba. My husband and I really loved the boba. But at 100% sweet, the drink was wayyy too sweet that we had to dilute it with water. Next time I would get half sweet. It had a very nice black tea flavor that shone through which is unique from other boba shops.

We have made pit stops at this OG branch of Cream Pan in Tustin over the years. The location of…read morethis well-known Japanese/French bakery was unusual in that it's isolated in a corner of the El Camino Plaza. I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. Ultimately, I think they can configure the operation to more efficiently handle the higher volume periods of the day.
