Coming from Irvine, I picked up six pastries from Lady M Cake Boutique and honestly, they were scrumptious. My favorites were definitely the lavender, pistachio, and the Italian chocolate. The staff is nice but it seems like they're all new. They also overbrewed and overheated the Jasmine tea as I've had better at cheap dim sum takeout restaurants. It's also not enough tea for $8. The guava cake was delicious but their new melon cake with the rice krispy base was not great. Not enough melon, the krispy was soggy and it was mostly vanilla custard. I recently tried the Lady M Cake shop (inside Michelson Park Plaza). Surprisingly, for peak post-lunch hour at 1PM, the shop looks deserted and no one was at the counter. I had to "called out" an energetic "Hello?!?!", before a young man popped his head out behind an enclosed area. It's called a boutique for a reason. :) So, while the presentation and flavor are undeniably exquisite, I do feel the price is a bit much. At $12 - $15 per slice, where the price was not clearly visible, it feels a little absurd, especially considering the portion size. I was expecting a higher than normal price point but was still shocked as what was displayed on the register. :)). I had just come from having lunch at the restaurant next door, and the price of a slice of cake is equivalent to the cost of a full meal so I'm unsure how to justify the cost and now understand why NO ONE was in nor came into the store. The quality is good, and if you're looking to indulge in something special, it's a great choice. However, the service wasn't exceptional, and I couldn't help but laugh when I was charged 10 cents for a bag. I mean give me the bag for FREE! It was an overall average experience.
