This is my first time visiting Donutchew. I was drawn to it being that I'm a donut fiend. I've had freshly made, delicious mochi donuts before, so this definitely didn't compare. However, I love the decoration, the customer service and the extensive menu, which is the reason for the 4 stars. I originally stopped by to eye the menu and plan my post-lunch coffee-time dessert. I let the barista know that I'll be returning but will order something simple. She suggested the cortado and I said yes immediately, and asked for iced. It was perfectly strong and not watered down. Fast forward a few hours, I returned as promised and she remembered me. We decided to order 2 mochi donuts and a few drinks: -chocolate and cinnamon/sugar donuts -red velvet latte -hazelnut latte -regular latte One thing to note is that she couldn't really describe the drinks. For example, I asked her if the red velvet latte tastes like chocolate or just sugary (since it's basically red-dyed chocolate) and she had no idea. I asked her what are the top drinks (besides what was shown on the board) and she couldn't answer that. But she was friendly. The donuts tasted a little stale and the chocolate frosting was definitely a little too hard. The cinnamon toast crunch was a cute touch to the donut, but again was stale. I wasn't a fan of the red velvet latte, it was pure sugar and aside from the intense pink color didn't taste the way I expected a red velvet cake to taste (most likely because the cream cheese is important to the flavor). The decoration and swag for purchase are all show-stoppers, perfect for photo ops or even social media. They have a cute little photo booth inside as well. There is plenty of seating available. There are pastries and donuts shape like a perfect flower of 6 donut balls attached to each other that made up the flower form, that's their own unique distinction to typical donut shape. Boba tea I ordered was taro and taste was similar to any other boba teas, solid and refreshing on a hot summer day. The donut comes in different flavors and if you order half a dozen $18, essentially you get 1 donut free. A donut is $3.50 each. Taste was okay, not too sweet, in fact the breading was bland and flavor really was on top so of you order peanut butter flavor, it's like a soft very light bread (almost a puff pastry) in ball shape slathered with the peanut butter creme or any other flavor in similar theme. Mochi Donuts! The first time I ever tried one was in Hawaii. I'm so glad there are Mochi Donuts in VA for us to enjoy. Had their Annandale location bookmarked but this one is much closer to home. Located inside Fair Oaks Mall Level 1 (in front of H&M). Plenty of seating is available. It's clean and organized inside. They have a nice variety of mochi donuts, teas, and coffee. The cashier is incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. Our order was neatly wrapped and ready to go in no time. Their mochi donuts are well made. Light, lovely chew, flavorful toppings, just the right amounts of sweetness. Their fruit teas and milk teas are delicious as well. Great depth of flavor. Parking: this is located inside the mall, so there is a ton of parking outside. It is across from H&M. You can park near Cheesecake Factory! Seating: there are a good number of seats and tables inside. It's not super crowded, so you should be good. Food: the drink was pretty good! The mochi donut was not warm, but it was tasty. Happened to walk by this place at fair oaks mall and was tempted to try since I love mochi donuts. But I also have a high standard because the one I had in Japan was SO GOOD I keep thinking other places will be the same and although delicious it just hasn't been the same. This place was honestly pretty good. I liked the openness and they have seating inside and the workers were friendly. I tried the honeydew donut which was pretty good but if you are not a big fan of sweet ones I suggest the original which I feel like would be good too. I love mochi donuts and was pleasantly surprised to find these in the middle of Fairview! All of the flavors were excellent - distinct and tasty (the matcha tastes like matcha!) but not artificial. Just an okay dessert shop; I probably would not come back. I ordered the creme brulee croffle, and it was ready for me in under one minute. However, the croffle was cold and hard, and the burn marks made it look less appetizing to me. I waited till I got home to air fry it, which definitely made the croffle better - crispy, flaky, buttery and sweet. I enjoyed the creamy custard topping, too. So, while service was quick, I just wish they took the extra step to reheat the croffle in the store, or at least offer me that option. Otherwise, if I didn't have access to an air fryer/oven, it would've been disappointing to bite into. Besides the strange, pungent smell of the store, the ambiance was fine and I liked their decorations. Deducting a few stars since they failed to mention that they were out of something *after* I had paid for it instead of offering an alternative. They said that they were out of the powder to make the aurora effect and that it should still taste the same. This was Grand Opening day and I was so excited to try their Mochi donuts. They had stated 10am opening on social media but did not actually open until 11. They were not even ready to receive guests until the very last minute. I ordered a six pack of donuts (strawberry milk, ube, matcha, black sesame, fruity pebbles and trix). The donuts are so adorable, like a beaded bangle, and are very pleasing to look at. I would like to come back to try the Thai milk tea flavor. I hope they change out seasonal and creative flavors often! I docked one star because while they tasted similar to other Mochi donuts I've had, they were smaller and greasier. Lots of mochi donuts popping up in NoVA! I first had these in hawaii too so was very eager to try them again. The shop is in fair oaks mall, so very convenient to visit while shopping. There are tons of flavors to choose from, but not every flavor is available every day as they rotate it out. They also have bubble tea and other drink options. The mochi donuts I got were overall delicious! A few too sweet but a few just right as well. Texture is great. I also tried the Taro bubble tea and wasn't the biggest fan. Always happy to support an Asian-owned establishment. I found these to be less chewy than other mochi donuts I've tried, but I liked that it ate lighter than your typical mochi donut. I wish they injected more flavor into the dough itself though instead of just relying on the toppings alone. The dough reminded me of a DD French cruller but with fun toppings. The shop itself was really cute and pretty. It was well decorated and the signs outside helped explain what everything was. The employee at the register was kind and ready for us to order. When she handed us our donuts she told us that they had just made them and they needed to sit for a while, but they gave us a complimentary donut! Which was very kind and it was good. Heard there was a new mochi donut place that opened up and of course I had to check it out. But when I got there I realized the mochi donuts were familiar.. and after doing some research I realized it was the exact same as the mochi donuts in K market. The donuts seemed relatively fresh, which I think is key for mochi (otherwise it just turns the longer it sits). Since mochi donuts are more of a specialty product compared to regular donuts I can see why the price is a bit higher than a regular donut. There are a variety of flavors along with different drink options on their menu (e.g., boba, coffee, etc). The employee stated that flavors can rotate every other day to every couple of days, which is nice to have flavors switched up. Overall good flavors and love the chewiness of the donuts. While some of the flavors could be tweaked to take it a step up, a majority of the flavors were good and it is definitely a place I would come back to if I craved mochi donuts. I tried to buy a bottle of water and because I wasn't spending a certain amount, they refused me service because I wanted to use a card. I don't understand why businesses do this. The minimal charge they have to pay for debits should be considered a business expense and carry on. Nail places are doing this as well or won't even let you leave a tip on the card. It's so frustrating in the year of 2024 when literally no one ever carries cash. I'm personally going to start boycotting this type of service. read more

We came here with a group of friends to try out their boba tea drinks and donut chew. The place was cool and was definitely Instagram-worthy for selfies and FB posts. The donut chews were just what you would expect. I like that they have a lot of different flavors/toppings. We tried the ube, chocolate, strawberry, green tea matcha, and marshmallow and toasted rice krispies (or something like that) and I honestly think the toasted rice was my favorite. Surprisingly, the match was everyone's least favorite. I don't necessarily think it tasted bad but I think the other flavors were better. As far as drinks, we had the honey dew, green tea, strawberry and brown caramel drinks. I think the best was honey dew and green tea but they all tasted really good. I liked that it wasn't too sweet and just had the right amount of ice although you can add more or less of either one. Will definitely come back if I'm ever in Fair Oaks mall again. Came here on a Tuesday around noon! Interior: spacey Staff: staff was young. There was one person who appeared to be a supervisor, and another working everything else that appeared to be a novice. Service: service was a bit sluggish. The supervisor was counting tips while the novice worked through. Although, I did appreciate that the novice remade my drink because it was very watered down the first time, and the second time it came out pretty good! Food: their donuts are pretty tasty! This place is located on the lower level of Fair Oaks Mall with the closest entrance being near The Cheesecake Factory, Brio Tuscan Grill, and Build-a- Bear. There are tables and chairs with room to sit and hangout. They only make 12 flavors a day, so they're will not have all donuts on the menu. I wanted to try the black sesame which they did not have when we went on a Friday. We tried the Ube and Coffee donuts. The ube was my favorite of the too. The donuts are chewy and not overly sweet. I'm on the pursuit of mapping out all the locations of the best mochidonuts from the west coast to the east. Donutchew is excitingly now in the Fair Oaks Mall, which is a fun place to stop in while taking a break from shopping. The bright pastels creates a cheerful atmosphere where there are chairs in front of a giant donut which is great for cute photos. They have a fun range of flavors--some more conventional than others. I believe I tried a special flavor which was a lilac earl grey one. The texture was pretty decent. Not as springy and chewy as I typically like but it was better than a few other places I've had them at. I prefer the icing//glaze to be more hardened/dried on so that it's easier to eat and split. In addition, it helps maintain an equal donut to icing ratio per bite. Unfortunately, for this donut, the icing was kind of sliding off at certain parts, so that was a bit disappointing. And although the flavor was interesting, it was a bit too sweet. read more
