Hidden in the nearly norther tip of Peninsula is the Door County Bakery. Judging by the license plates on the cars, many of the FIB"s from the State Below us have already found this place! I found it funny that they actually advertise on WGN Radio in Chicago! Well for those of you who have not found this place it is located a few miles south of Sister Bay on HWY 57. Not easy to find but well worth the stop when you do! My favorite reason to stop is to buy the Corsica Bread. Somehow this "to die for" bread has olive oil baked, absorbed or infused into the bottom of the bread. It is literally like having great bread with oil without having to actually dip it! No fricken clue how they do it? Don't care... Just glad to eat it! They also have food, pastries, hard to find alcohols and an olive/cheese bar. So as you are driving around looking for your next orchard or winery to stop at, make sure to include this place. You will be so glad you found it! This place also has a soft spot in my heart because it is were I fell in love with Hendricks Gin! Bought my first bottle here! read more

I really wanted to love this place.... My husband and I stopped in on our anniversary weekend and got a small raspberry cheesecake, a peanut butter cookie and a crocodile bar. I also had a vanilla latte. First the good: the gentlemen working were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice and cozy. My latte was expensive, but fine. The crocodile bar was delicious! The not so good... The cheesecake was literally inedible. The raspberry was a thick paste with no flavor. The cheesecake itself tasted like it had gone bad and there was barely any crust to speak of... We didn't even swallow our first bite. The peanut butter cookie we *thought* we bought (and were charged for) was the one that has peanut butter inside... Nope. Got a plain old peanut butter cookie that you could get from any grocery store... Meh. Really very disappointed. read more

After trying it again a couple years later after my first few rude experiences, stopped in with my two daughters one sat. When asked for help I pointed at the two doughnuts left in the glass and said we will have those, but I'm going to keep looking for a second, and the counter person said OK and acknowledged. 90 seconds later when I was ready to add something else on to my order, the donuts were gone and the person behind the counter said I gave them to someone else- you weren't ready. The someone else was a big adult standing right next to me who of course looked at me look at my daughters who were standing there and didn't offer to give them to them. And the counter people were just total assholes about it and said it didn't matter that I had said I would take them. WTH!?!? I have had the most ridiculously rude experiences there! We have been coming here for over a decade, and I was kind of disappointed to see the turn the owners are taking with it. I might understand trying to do outdoor ordering just because of COVID, but it sounds like these steps are permanent and the charm of the bakery is gone. With all the great places to go in Door County I'd say skip this one. We bought a few items in the store after our meal and realized after the fact that they were expired. Not recently expired, I mean the exp was mid 2014... When we went back the next day we were told that they wouldn't accept returns since we couldn't prove when we had purchased them (lost the receipt) but we were literally there the DAY before for almost 2 hours and it was not busy. While the sweets in the bakery cases looked sinful and the plethora of other items in the deli were great, I'd avoid dining in unless you have lots of time and lots of patience. Our party of 4 entered and while we had seen a menu online, it wasn't evident how one would go about getting a table. The staff was very friendly and told us about three different areas we could seat ourselves for breakfast. Given the great weather we chose the patio; which had nice, comfortable chairs and tables to choose from. The menu is minimal, but has a little something for everyone. Everyone selected drinks and beverages, though we had a small hiccup as 3/4 of one glass of orange juice was all the restaurant had left at 10 a.m. on a Sunday; a real dilemma when two of us asked for OJ! The food seemed to take a slightly longer time than usual though three of us did receive our food at the same time. The fourth had to wait about 5-7 minutes for her meal, an error in timing that wasn't explained. Though to be fair, her bread and cheese plate was excellent. Getting plates cleared and the check delivered also took longer than usual and the patio was not overly busy. I think the real issues were a lack of control in seating (if you have only 2 people playing the role of hostess and waitress, you need to limit the places you will have to go to serve those folks) and ineffective planning.(no orange juice after 10 a.m. on a Sunday; meals coming out at wildly different times). All that said, my cinnamon cherry oat french toast was very good and the Black Forest Mocha beats anything I ever order from Starbuck's. With so many choices in Door County, I'm not sure I'd give Door County Bakery another shot when I may be missing out on something better down the road. read more

Delicious goodies. The Corsica bread is to die for (buy the breadsticks and not the loaf because it's only good for a short while before it becomes a rock hard weapon). One minor annoyance, there is only one place to check out which means when it's busy and people are buying coffee drinks as well as deli stuff as well as bakery stuff everyone is funneled into one spot. My husband and I actually used to really like this place. While the service has always been mediocre at best, the food is usually quite good as well as good ambience...and like other reviews state, the corsica bread, oh my god. I recently found myself driving around the pennisula on a beautiful winter day craving an almond milk latte. I drove well out of my way to Door County Bakery because, frankly, I just like it there and hadn't been in a while. While waiting for my latte, I scoped out the menu. $20 for FRENCH ONION SOUP. $18 for a bowl of CHILI. Are you friggin kidding me? I seriously had to read the menu a few times to be sure I was reading it correctly. Those prices are insulting and so was my $7.50 latte. We will never be back, on principle. read more

We used to love this restaurant for breakfast. Unfortunately on our most recent visit, the prices had been raised at least 30%. Even having lived in New York and Chicago, I have never seen a piece of French toast for $20. We found an old receipt from 2016 showing the salmon mousse for $16 -- in August 2018, the price was $22. You can now also have the pleasure of paying more than $7 for a cappuccino. The food here is good, but not that good. Although this used to be a staple of our Door County visit, since the restaurant itself is very charming, I think sadly we will not be back. I have been using Door County Bakery since they opened. A pricey bakery but I always thought it was worth it for special occasions . Custom cakes were always so special. We make a point to get a Corsica Loaf at least once for entertaining. I understand changes that had to be made due to CoVid but this last weekend we were so disappointed. We waited in the long line and bought a Corsica Loaf that I'm pretty sure was not fresh. It may have been frozen earlier in the week to be sold on Saturday. I was embarrassed to serve the bread to guests who had never tasted it before. Worth the drive! We went for breakfast and tasted lots of the bakery treats: cherry cheese danish, cinnamon roll, cherry turnover, cake doughnut, oatmeal raisin cookies, chocolate glazed doughnut. The doughnuts weren't anything special, but the danish and turnover were excellent! Go with the cherries when it Door County!!! And they use a real espresso machine for mochas, cappuccino, and Americana coffee drinks which tasted really well. There's a larger breakfast menu, but since it's a bakery we just wanted to try their expertise. Also it's owned by genuinely nice people that work really hard to deliver exceptional quality. We talked to them for awhile to find out more about their story, and they do everything natural from scratch with real butter!!! You can taste the quality. The food is delicious, the sweets are quite tasty. They have a beautiful outside patio with a sweet family owners. The food is great, but theres a few things with it that could be troublesome. The food takes a little to get to you, and my meal came to me at room temperature. They have one waiter. The food is amazing! We drove out on Monday; found out they're closed on Mondays. Then we tried again, and drove out on Tuesday. Sign said they had to close due to an "emergency". So then today, Wednesday, we drove out once more. It's a good half hour drive from where we stay in Egg Harbor, but my dad was dying to get some of their amazing bakery... Unfortunately, we left disappointed, and as much as my dad loves their bakery, he vowed never to return. The main issue is the service. The woman serving us (older, gray hair, round black glasses) was very impolite, and inattentive. She couldn't care less about getting us what we asked for, and she acted very inconvenienced by us. The other issue is the prices. As others have mentioned, the prices are outrageous, to the point of actually being insulting. I noticed that there is no menu available to view online, so I snapped pictures. The bakery is delicious, but not worth the insult of the poor service and the ridiculous prices. Now that we live right down the road we wanted to try it but we unfortunately will not be back. When lattes (only one size) is $7 a piece, with pastries being expensive as well the bill for two people for lattes and a pastry was $25! I know it's Door County but wow! Also tried a crocodile and a cherry turnover. Both were exceptional. I'd say skip the bread but its still fresh bakery bread (in other words better than any brand sitting on a grocery store shelf). September 2019 - this was our last meal in Door County in 2019. Our breakfast was good, but not great. The standards in Door County are very high and considering the price we paid for two breakfasts ($56 with tax and tip), the food was OK. We passed by The Door County Bakery on our way in to Sister Bay. Once we got settled into our inn, we decided to make a trip back to their store for a look and perhaps some snacks and let me say that we were glad we did. What an amazing little business. On the bakery side, they have fresh breads and baked goods which we sampled and loved both the Danish and coffee cake we had. The coffee was made fresh to order and was the best coffee I may have ever had. Like others mention the Corsica Bread draws an audience...there was a line forming 15 minutes before the last loaf came out of the oven. In addition to the bakery, they also offer a small deli that has a great little selection of fresh cheeses, meats, and other assortments of frozen/fresh pasta, etc. More impressive was the beer selection on hand - offering a number of world beers and a decent selection of wines. This place has always been a staple of the neighborhood. While pricy, it's well worth it as everything is made from scratch. We always go for the Corsica loaf which is a delicious meditation on fermented French style bread infused with a heavy dose of olive oil. Best to eat this fresh and we (in typical unhealthy fashion) love to smear it with butter. Highly recommend getting this in a half load or (if you're feeling up to the challenge) full load. read more

This cozy little respite was a perfect stop for our Wisconsin drive. The cabin was made from reclaimed wood over two hundred years old. They not only had the freshest and best tasting Oatmeal Raisin cookies, but they offered a great selection of wines and other tasting treats. The staff was as warm as the atmosphere. We will definitely be making this one of our regular coffee stops--Door County Bakery definitely 'aint no Starbucks! The only complaint I have is they don't carry Splenda. That's not good, guys! Awesome place. We have a place close by and have been in a few times for wine, bread, etc... Today we tried breakfast and were treated to an amazing meal. What sounded simple (eggs, ham, fruit, etc...) was prepared so well we were practically licking the plates. The eggs were so creamy and the ham steak was juicy and cooked perfectly. This place has the rudest people working there and the most outrageous prices. I've paid less for coffee and a pastry in downtown Paris France. This bakery is only open 5 hrs on Saturday! That's it for the whole week. Their food is awful as expected as they are not open long enough to have fresh food. It's obvious the owner is not interested in serving customers in Door Cty anymore. Sweet Treat with Bitter Staff I have not idea how this place stays in business. Maybe because there is no competition in the area. The staff behind the coffee bar is arrogant and dismissive. The coffee guy (not qualified to be called a barista) with the Harold Lloyd glasses was too busy being catty to bother with customer service. He was nothing but rude. The bread is god here. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We actually threw out the pastries they were that bad.....tasted stale.....they were so expensive it was a sinful thing to do but they had the most rancid taste......what has happened? They were always expensive but a treat when you were on vacation. It would be better to close the door than tease your old customers with this bad food....make up your mind about your business plan. Yelp really needs to add a 1/2 star option. Would have liked to give 4.5 stars for Door County Bakery. Was a pleasant surprise on our trip to Door County. We stopped in one morning to get a coffee and a danish or two for breakfast. We didn't realize they had dining available. We took the tour of the place. What a great shop. Excellent selection of breads and pastries. They have a fantastic selection of wines, deli items, and assorted jam, jellies, and sauces. After walking around we grabbed a table on the patio. I had the breakfast sandwich and my friend had the cheese blintz. Both were fantastic, especially the blintz. Huge portions, almost too big for breakfast. The blood orange Mimosa was ok, but the bloody mary was fantastic. We went back the next morning to grab a pastry and coffee to go. The pecan roll and bear claw were outstanding. Their coffee is excellent. You must try the Corsica Bread. Out of this world good. Really expensive, but worth it. The reason for the .5 star decrease is the prices. A little high for what you get, but I don't feel it's insanely high. The quality and selection are really good. Cheers! read more

Posting what I think is the first yelp review for the dc bakery's new sushi bar called barracuda. I don't see it listed separately, but it should as it is rather distinct from the bakery and deli. First off, I know what you are thinking, sushi in dc? What is this place coming to??? True, but there are a lot of urban types up here jones-ing for it. We had two youngsters in tow and we got the obvious looks from a few patrons, however the staff was very welcoming to us. First the highs - sushi was good!! Truly. Very tasty. The surroundings are nice. Overall pretty authentic experience for a sushi bar far off the beaten path. The lows. Service was terrible. It really was. Took forever to have our orders taken, get beverages (including water) and get our food. In fact, our two kids were so squarely, we nearly left. Fortunately some edamamme appeared and we quickly put in an order for more. usually sushi is a quick hit which is good when you have two little kids. Not so here. In their defense, this is relatively new and I am sure they are working out the kinks. The server was sweet and helpful, just not fast or thinking ahead at all. Very nice place and don't be fooled by the curb side appearance. When you walk in the little counter top and baked counter to the left grab your attention, but do look to the right where you'll see the entrance to the restaurant which is very nice. I'll admit, my rating here is for the baked good and we did not order off the main menu. We did however sample a good number of items during our weekend stay in Door County and we were not disappointed with anything! It all had that fresh baked feel and taste not to mention it all smelled so good. Clearly we'll be checking in here again next time we visit Door County! read more

This is our favorite place in door county for breakfast! The owners are so nice and awesome to talk too!! They will tell you stories as you sit at the bar and drink your coffee. Get the Black Forest mocha! Very rich and fantastic! Also get the Corsica loaf. It will be the best decision you will make all day! It is olive oil infused bread. It is crunchy and wonderful! This bakery was once known for it's beautifully laminated pastries. I observed during this visit the prices were dramatically higher than previous visits, but as covid had affected many businesses, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, pasties were bad - dense & some were a dough with no laminations at all. All the choices were disappointing. This makes me sad, this was one of my favorite places in Door County. read more
