Best gluten free pancakes I've ever had! Hubby loves the huevos rancheros! Always great service!

Carroll House is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Door County. I've been coming here since my college days, and it's still a place I look forward to visiting whenever I'm in the area. My go-to is the blueberry pancake--it's always delicious. The bacon is another favorite: thick-cut, flavorful, and cooked just right. The portions are generous and the food has that classic, homemade breakfast feel. The restaurant is usually busy, especially during peak times, but the service is friendly and efficient, and the wait typically moves along pretty quickly. So, we woke up on our last morning in our rental house and the power was out! No coffee! Crisis! We packed up the car and headed here for breakfast. They are quick with the coffee and the menu had great choices at very affordable prices. I really loved that they had half orders of many items which made it possible to choose a breakfast size that fits what you want. I had a half stuffed cherry waffle and a side of bacon. The waffle was crispy and delicious and the cream cheese and cherry filling was perfect and just the right amount. The bacon was crispy, fresh and still hot. Service was fast and friendly. We went for breakfast little before 10am on Thursday. It was busy but wait wasn't that long for five people. Food was served quick and everything tasted delicious. Really enjoyed the pancake with door county cherries. There were many old people and families dining in. It's very cozy and small place. read more

Service was great. They accommodated a party of six even though they were packed, busy but efficient spot for breakfast. Food was decent, good value for money. I wish the corned beef hash had fewer potatoes and morn corned beef but it was still good. Setting is a cross between a diner and a coffee shop, very casual, good spot for what we wanted. read more

When you're told you've got a wait of 1hr 40min at Al Johnson's (and you know that means probably more like just an hour), we figured to drive up to Carroll House since we hadn't eaten and we figured to see how busy it really was since they weren't picking up the phone. Got there and seeing a few empty spots in the lot with folks leaving was a good sign. They were clearing a table as we got in. We got the chorizo hash ($12.75) and a full order of the cherry stuffed waffles ($11.75 - half order option also available for $7.75, and this can be done with French toast instead). Tables are turned over quickly and there is counter seating too. Check the current menu at their Facebook page. You can see they've been trying out new things, particularly it seems Mexican inspired options. Closes in December for the winter and reopens in April. Quickly got coffee but then service went downhill. Female servers looked happy but men were brusque. No extra plate with our omelet to split and $10 omelet with 2 toast and NO potatoes. Took time to get extra jam. The 7 am patrons done and we arrived just after 9. There must be a more pleasant place for tourists to have breakfast! read more

I have drove by this place for years and finally made the effort to stop in for breakfast. I so wanted to love this place because it just seemed like a nice family business located in the heart of more touristy restaurants and bars. As I walked in we were told to sit were we would like and the waitress was very friendly. This changed as a couple of friends came in and sat at the counter. After that we basically only got attention when she delivered our bill! I was excited to try their "world famous" waffles, so my wife and I decided to split one as a side with our entree. The waffle was good, but nothing outstanding that would make the world famous claim... but I would still recommend. For my breakfast I ordered the county fried steak with hash browns and white toast. The steak was also very average but I did like the gravy. The hash browns were a bit burnt on the outside, yet somehow underdone in the middle... not good. And my toast was hurt black one one side and not as bad on the other. (Amazingly they turned the burnt side was turned down so I wouldn't see it... like I wouldn't notice!!!). Why not remake the damn toast? Should have sent it back, but didn't get to talk to the waitress until the bill came, and by then I lost interest. Long wait to eat here... big let down. read more

I thought this was fine overall, but none of our food stuck out as exceptional or particularly recommend-able. I got Eggs Benedict which was, again, just fine, nothing special. It came with hash browns which also were very average. My mom ordered French toast which she was pleased with; they seem to have knowingly given her extra slices which was cool. My sister got a standard eggs/bacon/toast meal which was satisfying. Everything was just kind of down-the-line, and I felt like they could spice things up if they wanted to be really memorable. As it is, if you're around here and are looking for a simple breakfast place, this will definitely do. Also, we wish we'd known there was outdoor seating; we didn't know it existed until we spotted it on the way out. read more

We were on a scouting trip to Sister Bay, WI. In a few weeks we are attending a wedding nearby and we wanted to learn more about the area. We spotted this nice breakfast place as we explored the shops, restaurants and surroundings. We sat down right away, received 2 waters, ordered our food, and in a bit our food arrived. This restaurant is definitely OPEN!! It has been open for many years and is a Sister Bay institution. The food is delicious and prices are reasonable. Staff is friendly and efficient. My husband had the cherry cream cheese French toast and he said it was DELICIOUS!! My daughter is a vegetarian and had the veggie croissant which she loved! So on their sign. Says waffle. Well I guess they should knock your stocks off with their waffle. Not for me Got strawberries on waffle. Well this tis season for fresh strawberries. They used the can strawberries stuff. Not very good. Service lousy but that's pretty much all over the place with the shortage of workers. The waffle I toss in the toaster at home much better. Very poor quality breakfast. Less than mediocre service. We had breakfast here on Aug 18,2022. This place only got one star because first of all the menus were dirty! Took awhile to get a cup of coffee and never got a refill! I ordered a simple two scrambled eggs and toast. Eggs were fair but only got one piece of toast. We had no butter at our table and only one tiny creamer. There is a reason there were only a few cars in there parking lot. Breakfast in a touristy area should be packed. Save yourself and eat at one of the more popular places. read more

Food was very quick to come out. The prices are great for Door County. The biggest drawback is the wait staff. Our waiter was incredibly rude, rolling his eyes at one point. Had there not been Fallfest and so many people, we would have left and went elsewhere. This worked in a pinch, but we won't be back. read more

I'm guessing the omelettes are two-egg, and as an alternative to the tourist-y Al Johnsons, this would be my go-to.
