I've always been a value priced dime-a-dozen haircut guy. My standard #2 fade has been the only style I've done (outside of growing it long) in 20+ years. Granted a fade is very adaptable when it comes to styling so I've been able to keep it fresh over the years. Plus, it's a very standard cut so any place I have gone to has been able to get it right. That said I did happen across some BuzzFeed article singing the praises of an undercut and casually mentioned it to my wife - unimpressed she asked if I was young enough for the cut... Despite her sense of humor I do tend to defer to the opinion of the one who actually has to look at me all the time. Fast forward to last year: having changed barbers after a move to CT, my spot happened to be closed on a day that I needed a cut before a customer meeting. Not only that, but it was 5:30 and timing was a mess for the few places I looked up between Westchester and Stamford, save one Doorbell Barbers. Decided to pull the trigger, despite the heftier pricing, based on need and the posted hours. Labeled the "Uber" of haircuts, I wasn't sure what to make of the service but figured in a pinch it could work. I inquired via Yelp and got an immediate response before I could even roll out of the parking lot of my closed barber. Christian set me up for a cut later in the evening than most places provide so I already liked the scheduling flex. Christian was timely, professional, clean, and quick. The whole process is definitely as advertised and I'd highly recommend Christian's music suggestions. Where things got different for me was the cut. I laid out my usual line for a fade with a little length up front but ended up getting a solid update to my tired fade. The fade was well executed & though not a high fade, Christian managed to get me more in the "underfade" range with a slightly asymmetrical shape upfront. So with a single cut I was given an update to a do I've been getting for decades & my wife was not only pleased but 100% sold on the undercut vibe. I've since gone shorter than a 2 and long enough up front to move away from the glued up "faux hawk horn" to a far more refined comb + pomade style. It works pomp'd up a bit or even straight back. Long to short: not only did I get a great new cut, Christian provides amazing salon level service and quality without the hassle or severely bloated pricing. I highly recommend giving him a whirl and letting him know the style you're going for! read more

If you're particular about your hair, you know that there are some cuts that are so good that you barely have to touch your hair when you style it. You put some product in, comb it, and it just falls into place. Then there are cuts that are decent, but you have to practically beg your hair to take the style you want it to. The haircut I got from this barber was the latter. I typically get my hair cut in a very classic 50s/60s, short sides, long top, side part style. I specified this, and even specified that it had been 3 weeks since my last haircut, but the barber cut far too much off. The fade on the sides as the hair transitions from short to long is not good. There is a hard line, which should never be the case. My second concern is that although the barber vacuumed after the cut, there was hair left on my floor and I ended up having to swiffer it after he left. However, I am admittedly very particular about my hair. This is a very cool service. My barber arrived right on time, on a Sunday, nonetheless! Very convenient not having to leave the house, and he was a very pleasant guy to be around. But if you're wondering if the haircut itself is worth the price, it's probably not. EDIT: Christian has been nothing but helpful in correcting all of the issues mentioned; he has even offered to come in and do another haircut for free after researching the style I wanted more. Read about it on yelp and wanted to give it a try. Very glad I did. I ordered the haircut and shave combo. They come prepared with a chair, drop cloth, barber's cape and everything else. The shave was as good as going to Art of The Shave, certainly more convenient. Christian was very personable and knowledgeable on a variety of subjects including restaurant recommendations etc. He took great care in the haircut and I was quite happy with the result.I can't recommend this service enough. Its a rarity these days to find someone who really knows and understands customer service. I don't say this lightly when I tell you that Christian and the staff at Doorbell Barbers really knows how to take care of their customers. This was a FANTASTIC experience from the ease of booking a haircut online to second the haircut is done. What a great business idea. I just had the best straight shave of my life! My barber Christian has cut and shaved me a total of 3 times now and I will continue to use Doorbell Barbers. I have super sensitive skin and Christian takes the time to listen to me when I let him know what areas of my face are the most sensitive. Additionally, my hair is really thick. Sometimes when barbers cut it they tend to pull my hair when it gets stuck in their clippers. Not Christian! He takes his time and really concentrates on what he's doing! I booked Doorbell Barbers the morning of my wedding for me and my groomsmen - my (now) wife booked their partner service Doorbell Salon for her and her bridesmaids. I was absolutely thrilled with the experience and the results! Christian (the owner/founder) is a consummate professional. He arrived promptly and worked efficiently to cut my hair and performed excellent straight razor shaves for me and my groomsmen. He was extremely flexible and gave everyone the particular cut or beard trim that they requested. The procedure for the shaves involved lots of aromatic oils and hot towels and was one of the most relaxing experiences I have ever enjoyed. Though he spent most of the morning in the hotel room with us, his presence was never awkward or forced - we felt comfortable and relaxed the entire time he was there. His cut and styling made my hair look fantastic all day and night - I can't wait to see the photos from our wedding day! Two small things I thought were nice touches: Doorbell Barbers offers a bourbon package that I gladly paid for and was well worth the cost. They offered a selection of several different bourbons - Christian even called the front desk to provide glasses and ice. The second touch was Christian's decision to save a final touch-up for when the photographer came to the room. He was able to set up his station to look nice for our photos and worked with our photographer to get some nice shots. Never in my life have I loved my haircut immediately after it was done until now. I always needed a couple of days to adjust or play with it or just accept I didn't like it. Christian is a God send. Christian is the man! I had my haircut poolside with a beverage of my choice, this time: club soda and lime. I kno, why not whiskey?! Well, this was my first time and I didn't want to feel tipsy and then be too easily pleased with my cut. I was so happy to have my head shaped the way he did it.
