My friend and I got pedicures. I paid $50 for the most basic callus remover one. No lotion, no massage, no hot stone, not even cuticle oil and there's still plenty of dry skin on my feet. The whole service lasted about 15 minutes. My nails dried for about 25 minutes while I waited for my friend and I gave them my card to pay. I said I'd tip $5. The receptionist said that's not 20% I said I know, that's what I want to tip. She argued with me about it so I gave in and paid 20%. When I got in the car the corner of my toe immediately chipped. Was visiting the area and wanted to get my nails done and this was one of the only places still open until 7:30. I called ahead and was told they had availability for a gel manicure and pedicure that evening. The entire service ended up keeping me there until 8 pm- it was somewhat awkward as everyone was closing up shop and cleaning all around me for the last 30 mins of the appointment. As for the actual service I think it's hit or miss depending on the technician you get. I think I just got unlucky because a lot of the other services going on around me looked better quality. The biggest reg flag is that my technician didn't use the cuticle cutters for either of my services At first I asked for a basic pedicure but then I saw a women next to me getting some kind of treatment that looked like it was getting a LOT of dead skin off, so I asked to upgrade to that pedicure treatment. Once it was my turn, my technician just wasn't able to do it. I'm not sure if she was weak or tired or scared to hurt me but it felt like I was barely being scrubbed. Same with the 10 minute timed leg massage, she essentially just rubbed lotion onto my leg for 10 minutes while I watched other techs really get into it and squeeze, push, knead other people. As for my gel manicure, I had to get my previous gel polish soaked off so they wrapped them in acetone and tinfoil before my pedicure and had my fingers soaking in that for the entire 45+ minute pedicure.. I'm not sure if that's typical but I felt like that wasn't good for my fingers. Lastly, when given the gel color options for my manicure I pointed to the color I wanted- white and said "white". The color she ended up using was very transparent and not what I asked for. When it was time to pay what looked like the manager/owner told me the total "$97". Then verbally asked how much I would like to tip- I think to add it to the total credit card transaction. Then while I was doing some math in my head to calculate a tip, he suggested "20%?".. I typically tip 20% on all nail services, but was considering doing 15% or 18% today. But my tech was standing right next to him when he suggested 20% and I didn't want to be rude. So I agreed and he added $20. Which isn't a huge deal but is a bit more than 20% of $97. The only reason I have 2 stars instead of 1 is because I felt pity toward my technician, even though she did a bad job I think she did the best she could, and maybe the whole salon isn't as bad as the service that I was unfortunate to get. read more

I called them an hour ahead to see if they had availability and thank god they did. I'm so sad I don't live anywhere near this place! The nail tech was pleasant, efficient, and handled that e-file like a champ. The manicure lasted me 5 weeks with absolutley no chipping or lifting. The space was clean and tidy. There's enough space with their work stations so that your chair isn't presseing up against anyone else's. Please do yourself a favor and try their services. This is the only place I will go for dip manicures on and around Aquidneck Island after trying a bunch of places. They take walk ins, but I usually call to make an appointment an hour or two before just to make sure. They are quick and fantastic while still paying attention to detail. My biggest pet peeve is badly shaped nails and they pay great attention to that and the smoothness. My manicures usually last 3-4 weeks and for $50, I think that's fantastic! The girl that was doing my nails buffed/filed my nails so hard that my fingers are now bleeding. Very disappointed and they hurt SO much. I am new to the area and have been searching for a new "go-to" salon. I believe the gentleman I had to my services is named Harry. He was very polite and courteous. I'm starting to see that it is kind of pricey around the Newport area. I received the classic pedicure and added the French gel polish (extra making the pedicure $50). The classic was good. After the gel pedicure I got a French gel manicure. I don't like they they cut your cuticles dry here (I'm noticing that's the norm around here). Overall everything turned out good. Got over charged for basic tips with gel. These are short tips with a plain Gel color nail polish, no design. "EUV Gel" They charged $85 dollars($87 for using card) for my daughter's friend's nail and then put upon themselves to add whatever tip they wanted on top of that. Over 20%. That is not for them to decide. They forced her to pay when I specifically asked to wait until I got back there to pay when they finished. I spoke to someone regarding the payment. If it was not Ok, then they should have told me that in the beginning. They tried to give me 3 dollars back after I questioned them about the money and pricing. Insulting and this is not Ok. Actually there is nothing even on their list for EUV gel for 85.00. Even a French set was cheaper. 20% would made it around 87 total. But they charged 85 then made her pay another 20 dollar separately. Taking advantage of a young lady of color while an older adult wasn't present with her. read more

I went in for a powder dip manicure and regular pedicure. The nail tech cut the side cuticle on the sides of my large toe snd made me bleed. She didn't seem too concerned. I was nit thrilled but allowed her to proceed and complete the pedicure. The went yo her area for the powder dip manicure. She didn't listen when I repeatedly told her not the file the sides of my nails inward as I wanted them squared nit pointy or rounded. I paid over $105. With a tip. I won't be going back. I have been going to j nails since it opened... I have recommended it to MULTIPLE people and I can honestly say I will NEVER go there again. I had my nails done on Thursday- full set and pedicure for $100. Not only did they rush and it looked terrible but I called to make a polish change 5 days later to make it look better and they refused to do it once I got there... I told them I would pay whatever just to change the color and as they were figuring whatever out, they booked someone over me while I was waiting there!! Then I finally convinced them to take the color off and put something else on and they rushed again... they took the color off and then refused to put more color on and sent me home and charged me $10.00 (picture below). My first experience was decent. Lily did a good job, but the "politics" of the establishment were annoying. I want one person to start and finish my nails. At the end the nails looked good. Fast forward a few weeks and we've unpacked and I walk down for a mani / pedi. We live about a mile away so I walked down to J's. I explained immediately what I wanted done. Gel manicure / pedicure. They asked about dip powder and I said I didn't mine which one, I can work with either. I was told to sit in a chair for the pedi portion so I proceed to remove my tennis shoes and socks. Remember I walked down, and get gel so tennis shoes are best for walking, right? I sit for a few minutes to be told I get to choose either fingers or toes to be done because they have a party of xx amount of people and just don't have time for both ‍‍. If I come to your establishment and pay you for arrive, I decide what I want done. Not you. He continued to insist I just choose fingers or toes and the rest later. Are you serious? I have a life and event to attend also. Your "party of xx" coming in isn't the knot one. As I said then, I will never return. The way I was treated was unacceptable. Know from the beginning you cannot take me as a customer at this time before I've taken off my shoes and relaxed. It's unfortunate because I truly liked how Lily did my nails. Thank you to the other company who called me Back based on caller ID and was happy take me as a customer. You're further away, so I'll drive! They offered to have me come back to have it done again, or to give me $20 for a color change, but refused to refund me my money. I have been having my nails powder dipped here for a while now. I always wondered if the tools they just took out of the "sealed package" were really cleaned or if it was just for show. Well, I got the answer today. After the tech finished my nails, she took the tools, wiped them off with a small square of paper towel dipped in what I am assuming was polish remover. She then got up walked to the back behind the curtain and got another "sanitary" package. She put the tools in and sealed them up and put them in the sanitizer machine behind the counter ready for the next person. YUCK! Will not be going back. read more

I got dip polish manicure with tip extensions and they are super uneven and thick and lumpy. They have a policy where you can get the fixed within a week, but I'm not going to bother. Anyone who knows me will know that I am very meticulous when it comes to my nails. I have been seeing the same nail tech for years, but after moving to Newport I had to give up the 45 minute commute to get a fill. After striking out with three local nail salons that did not offer acrylics I finally found J Nails. The spa is immaculately clean, staff are friendly and accommodating and my nails look the best they have in a long time. I am beyond impressed by this salon and will be returning as a full time customer. My nail technician took the time to repair the cracked and half falling off acrylic nails I came in with after waiting too long for a fill and they look good as new. Great experience! My boyfriend lives in Newport and I needed my gel nails redone badly so I decided to come here. I loved the bright white decor inside, very my style so I may be biased. But the nail tech I had was very sweet and meticulous. I also couldn't believe all of the awesome extras that came with this gel manicure that I don't typically see for only $30 at other salons. In addition to a typical gel manicure you get a nice shoulder massage with a warm towel. You also get hand exfoliant as well as a paraffin wax treatment that will leave your hands so soft.
