We stopped here on our way to Mt. Hood for an afternoon visit to the Timberline Lodge. My wife accidentally left her wallet on the counter with her ID and a bunch of cash in it. By the time we realized it, they were closed ... of course our flight home was early the next day. We called and left a message on the store's voicemail that night. When we got to the store (30 minutes before they opened) the next morning. The young lady met my wife at the door by name and returned the wallet and all of its contents. ... oh yeah, the coffee was good and the atmosphere can't be beat! read more

Such a lovely spot to grab breakfast and sit outside. Great scene. Thoroughly enjoyed our morning here. My husband had a coffee and milk/granola topped with strawberries and bananas. I had the breakfast sandwich and tea. They serve it in a beautiful tea pot that makes you want to savor every sip. The sandwich was more than enough. This place is fabulous! Such a fun atmosphere. The baristas are great and the coffee is AMAZING!!! The food is awesome too! I had avocado toast one day and the next I had a breakfast sandwich. Fantastic pastries. The gluten free carrot muffin was extremely moist--hard to even believe it is gluten free. Ample indoor and outdoor seating make this a great place to stay for awhile. The coffee is good, too. read more

I'm a big fan of Doppio. My favorite coffee places in town all get 5 stars and they have different aspects that I equally appreciate. 10-SPEED - Chill vibe, friendly staff, less busy than others because it's not downtown, which makes it especially great in the summer. KICKSTAND - Best food, great outdoor and indoor seating. Louder and more social than the others so it's better for larger groups and mingling. And they have coffeebeans and cool logo merchandise for sale! GROUND - Always plays the best music. Good work space and good for meetings. DOPPIO - Best working space coffeehouse in the winter. This place is a average. Located in the heart of the city with a cute ambiance. The food is just middle of the road, the Thai coffee tasted simply like iced coffee there was nothing special. Awesome coffee spot. Right in the heart of Hood River on Oak street and perfect to sit midday and have a soup and sandwich and a coffee and do some work. Walking in, there's adorable merchandise on the sides and you immediately see the huge windows that open up to the outside seating. There's a big list of coffees, teas, espresso drinks, and lunch foods, and ordering is straight forward. The drinks come out on the bar on the side and you are given a number if you get food. The food is always amazing and comes out in a good amount of time. Slightly hectic when it's busy, but everything always comes out right and it's always good! read more

Little local trivia for you: Doppio was originally opened by Shane and Ryan, who were the boys behind Holsteins. The new owner, Michael has dramatically reshaped the business. First, beverages: They serve local Pacific Rim Coffee. While not one of my favorite roasters (the espresso profile is a little over-roasted and acidic for a 3rd Wave coffee geek like me) they are a socially responsible company putting out a consistent product. Michael has taken steps to up the quality of their espresso service. First, he invested in a new La Marzocco 3 group Linea. And he pimped it out. Temperature controls, flow restricters, spinners (kidding) And of course training baristas. The key. The owner himself is probably the best barista in the house, but everybody on that machine is well-trained. They also have a selection of beer and wines, that has probably changed quite a bit from my last visit. For food they serve panini, soups, and spectacular salads. My favorite panino was the turkey with cranberries and cream cheese. + kettle chips = Yum! Everything is fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. To be perfectly honest, in a town of overpriced hamburgers and mediocre pasta dishes Doppio is probably the best lunch spot in town. *sigh* Gelato. I have these friends who went to Italy during college who swear up and down that it's not "real" gelato. You know what? I don't care if it's "authentic" or not. Oreo? Mango? Probably not flavors you get in Italy. All of that will mean nothing once you taste it. There are no words. Okay. There ARE words. But they're the kind of words I reserve for when I dirty-talk my BF. Doppio could rock the FVSTR for their space alone. Huge open ceilings and great acoustics. A good mixture of tables and bar seating, plus a comfy couch. They manage that modern, clean look without feeling pretentious. It's downright relaxing. But. Oh. My. The outdoor seating? Gorgeous. Sleek tables overlook little steps and a courtyard with a water fountain. During the summer it's heaven to sit on the steps with affogatto and watch the little kiddies play in the fountain. Went here on a recent quick visit to Hood River. Since we had a free breakfast provided to us through our hotel, I figured we would just stop in for a coffee before heading back home. Good luck with that one. Once we saw the menu, we couldn't help but try a plethora of items. I got my standard nonfat vanilla latte with half the vanilla (decaf for me this time since I have a baby on board). It was sufficiently creamy for a nonfat latte, and hit the spot. I also got the last chocolate croissant of the day. Very fluffy and light, which was good since I had just had a huge breakfast, but needed something for my miniscule sweet tooth. My husband ordered an array of items since he had only had a bloody mary for breakfast (hey, it's a meal in a glass!), one of which was Opa's Super Cup. Good. Lord. Almighty. He got one bite of this, and let me have the rest. Best to let the pregnant lady have what she wants. The flavors were spot on, and I was so stuffed from my earlier breakfast and croissant that I was literally forcing it down. I couldn't resist it though. It had a Svengali-like hold over me. Yogurt, fresh fruit, seeds & grains, honey, almonds, and raisins all in one magical tiny bowl. I thought about ordering a vat of it to go. Thinking about it now, I may just have to drive out there again strictly for this entrancing dish. Another plus about it...outdoor seating. Came in for a coffee around 3:30 waiting for Double Mountain around the corner to open. The place was pretty busy and I'm not sure why because the coffee wasn't good. Doppio is a clean and modern coffee shop, which could be something you're looking for but I tend to like the homey mismatched furniture and old hardwood floors kind of place. If you're looking for a better cup of coffee head up to 10 Speed Coffee in the heights. read more

Ordered the Veggie Panini on GlutenFree bread. I have been a celiac since 2003 so it is a need not a want. My sandwich came with burnt bread. Didn't want to ask for a replacement as she was not very friendly. Not sure if she was upset about having to clean the machine for the GlutenFree or what, but have some pride in what you do. If you don't want to do the things needed for Gluten-Free, then don't offer it. Guy at front counter was friendly and my husband's panini was good. read more

This was my first ever time here, and the lady I spoke to was very nice & patient with me (as I was being quite indecisive lol). She suggested I try the chai latte and it was amazing! I always stop here when I'm in Hood River but have never thought to write a review. They're coffee is always fresh and good. They have a nice assortment of salads and sandwiches. Got an egg, sausage & cheddar sandwich today. Good but a little bland. The ciabatta roll was fresh and sausage flavorful. My friend had a Kona Mocha smoothie. Excellent. I had an iced doppio. Serendipity stepped in when we landed at this fine cafe! We had just come from Cascade Locks and knew that we would find our first cup of the day in Hood River. Little did we know what kind of treat we were in for... I glanced left and saw the sign "Doppio" which my brain registered immediately as "Coffee" having spent some time in Italy. Low and behold, there was a single parking spot on my right hand side. The coffee here is fantastic! The service was also great as the freckle-faced redhead behind the counter made fun of my bowling shirt. It was a warm day in May and there were many people sitting outside in the courtyard. We were content to stay out of the heat and enjoy the atmosphere with high ceilings. The food menu was tempting but we were on our way East so we continued on.. I would highly recommend a visit when you are in Hood River, you can't go wrong here. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. The coffee is bland and lacks flavor and or aroma that one desires in the morning to wake up. Even the way the new " Manager " treated me was insulting to the regulars. This place has gone down hill in the last month and will not be returning again. Headed out to Portland at the end of March for a conference. Decided to hit Hood River for some beer and coffee. Good choices on both accounts. I was lucky enough to have the chai at Doppio. It's the best chai I've ever had. Don't wimp out and order it with skim milk. Go whole milk here and you won't regret it. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Michael B.

I discovered Hood River, OR in 2003 while on a 1 year RV adventure. I immediately fell in love with the town and the many outdoor activities that are all right here. After 15 years as an international corporate warrior for Mercedes-Benz, I finally realized my dream of moving to the Columbia Gorge when I purchased Doppio in 2006. I wanted to create an atmosphere here that reflected my roots, bringing a little of Europe with me to the US. We have also adapted to our wonderful surroundings, focusing on the rich coffee culture of the Northwest and providing fresh, delicious foods from the bounty of the Columbia River Gorge.

The side salad was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy goat cheese took it from "just a side salad" to something I'd happily order again. It was the perfect balance to all those delicious fries. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers great food in a welcoming atmosphere, Kickstand Coffee should absolutely be on your list. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and it's one of those places we recommend without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone who asks where to eat. A great coffee shop with a great atmosphere! Plenty of locals in here year round, which is always a positive sign. I am mostly an expresso drinker, sometimes Americano's, and I thouroughly enjoy the coffee here. The baristas are well trained and have a very nice la marzocco machine. The food is also notable here, not common for a coffee shop in my experience. Tasty breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfait's, good croissants and muffins, plus a wide selection of lunch options. My favorite lunch item is the turkey sandwich on fresh whole wheat bread. They load on the vegetables, which are always fresh, to make a great sandwich. I like to switch out the chips for a side salad, which is consistently crisp and fresh. (Does *not* taste of preservatives, a pet peeve). They have good music, speedy no password wi-fi, and a modern interior of wood, stone and glass. They maintain a friendly, inviting atmosphere to relax in. The staff do a very good job of remembering regular customers names and favorite orders. It's the place to be especially in summer with an awesome patio to sit in the sun and watch oak street roll by. The huge wall to wall windows all fold back in the summer too, which feels more like coffee shops I've been to in Florence, Italy than Oregon.
