Food: 4/5 Food is always decent. Good portions. Savory and filling. Service: 4/5 They're always pretty busy but find a way to fit you in. Staff is generally pretty nice but can sometimes be forgetful since it's so busy. Ambiance: 5/5 Nice view outside

We were visiting a wedding venue viewing on Sunday & was looking for a place for breakfast while we wait for the viewing to occur & chose this place. I am saddened to say I don't remember coming here several years back - per my husband- but I can say I won't forget again. This place is an absolute gem! Luckily we got there early (opens at 0600 - got there around 0800) because after we sat down, it had a constant flow of traffic. Our party of 5 was sat quickly & order taken just as fast. In Oregon, they can't serve alcohol until after 0700 and when I saw their mimosa options I was get happy. I went with the standard mimosa while my husband went for the dole whip option. They were both excellent & priced well. We split the special eggs Benedict which had great flavor& presentation but the egg was over done which was slightly disheartening. I got a side of bacon to go (for my puppies) and cinnamon roll to go as well. I was full but couldn't go without it ! It didn't disappoint and sure would have been better if eaten there directly. Overall the menu is expansive and I will be back to try more options! If in the area, I would highly recommend stopping & giving it a shot

Delicious food!! Sometimes there's a wait but it's always worth it, they have redone the menu a few years ago and all the new dishes are fantastic

food was really good. all the chicken and rooster decor was really cute. the service was not the best, but it was a busy weekend morning. we had to keep asking for specific items multiple times before they brought them. so just be prepared to be a little patient, but the view from the window is enough to make up for it.

Classic breakfast diner environment, friendly and attentive staff with large portions of food. Everything was comforting and pleasant.

Corned beef hash and eggs with breakfast potatoes

Servers were very nice and let us sit on the patio. Food was great. Corned beef hash made in house with veggies mixed in. Eggs just the way we like them. The view from the restaurant across the Columbia is awesome. Banana waffle we destroyed.

    Definitely not marionberry pie

Plenty of parking in a lot across the street and pleasant staff. I'm sure the breakfast experience is amazing but I ended up here in the evening. Food was ok but ordered a slice of marionberry pie and was given strawberry rhubarb. When I pointed it out to our waitress, her exact response was "But the cook said it was marionberry." Not the end of the world, but definitely annoying as it was not what I ordered and also didn't taste good.

Excellent comfort food with a cozy vibe I came here solo on a Sunday around 11 am, so it was packed, but the staff did a great job keeping up. The bartender was knowledgeable and thorough, which was much appreciated!

Chile Relleno Breakfast Tacos were so worth the wait. 5 stars for the mole alone.

Any decent breakfast spot is guaranteed to be crowded on a weekend in Hood River, and Egg River, due to its proximity to downtown, is definitely on that list. Still our wait wasn't terribly long, and was worth it. My Chile Relleno breakfast tacos were an absolute flavor bomb, with the chorizo stuffed peppers playing off the mole rojo like long lost friends, smoky with just the right amount of heat. Nice portion size, too. As you probably guessed, you can get almost any egg-influenced dish you can think of here, from scrambles to omelets to Benedict's and beyond, and it all looked so good coming out of the kitchen (we were sitting right by it). The place is definitely cozy inside, like a small cabin with a diner vibe, with a bunch of wooden tables and booths scattered throughout and kitschy signs and tchotchkes tucked into the corners, but it is definitely cheery. As I mentioned, it gets pretty crowded on weekends and parking is tight, so get there early. Despite the hubbub, our server was efficient and friendly, so there's a very good chance we'll be back. Count me as a happy customer.

    Keep driving!!

    Do they take reservations?

No, they do not. This is a breakfast/lunch joint that is primarily known for their breakfasts. I have always gone a little bit late for breakfast or early for lunch and still had breakfast. I haven't had a problem getting in.

Definitely got the small town diner feel here, and everything on the menu sounded so good! They also have a specials board inside so make sure to take a look before you make your decision. I finally decided on the south of the border omelette, which also comes with hash browns or potatoes or fruit, and a biscuit or muffin or toast. Such a satisfying and filling meal! The omelette itself was not short on ingredients at all, and I loved the cilantro. The menu did mention homemade salsa but I didn't see any of that on the side or inside. Other than that, the eggs were cooked nicely. I picked the chorizo biscuit on the side and it was so soft and fluffy inside! I also appreciated the amount of options on the kids menu. There was plenty more options than just your standard pancake, bacon, and eggs. Our kids loved the pigs in a blanket which was actually quite big and perfect for our two kids to split. Service was awesome, our server was so kind and even brought out our friend's son's maple bar with a candle because he mentioned it was his birthday. She did it without us even asking which was so sweet! The food came out so quickly too despite the entire restaurant being full. Great experience here at Bette's!

We all got different sandwiches and every single one of us loved what we got. Wasn't too busy on a Friday morning, plenty of open seating. They did have pastries as well but did not partake. Ordered the bagel and lox which was amazing- came with all the fixings such as tomatoes, capers & red onions. The salmon was fresh and the bagel was nice and toasty, just the way I prefer. Got to taste the sandwich with the jam and loved it. Kind of wish I got that sandwich instead just cause of the jam. The bread was really good too- I think they were homemade english muffins. Everything on the sandwich was just chef's kiss! All of the employees were really nice. The place was clean as you have to "buss" your own table. Glad that people can follow directions. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The dining space is bright with tons of seating. I love that they make their own bread!! It's super soft and such a nice touch. I usually go with the turkey which has turkey, white cheddar, tomato, pickles, onion, lettuce, and hot mustard. It was a bit spicier than I would have liked, not that it was too hot, but that flavor was really dominant for me so I'd probably modify it a bit in the future or just build my own . My daughter loved her ham sandwich which comes with sprouts, avocado, and cucumber. My husband also really liked his Italian and their clam chowder. This place is definitely worth a stop if you are hungry in the Gorge!

Split the St. Helens Burger, an order of fries, and a side salad with the recommended goat cheese (trust them--it was the right call). The burger was everything you want it to be. A fresh poppy seed bun, a perfectly cooked patty, sweet caramelized onions... and then came the poblano pepper. That little bit of smoky heat tied the whole thing together. Now let's talk about the fries because they deserve their own paragraph. These are, without question, my favorite fries. They arrived hot, crispy, perfectly golden, and had that satisfying crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one. If you're a fry person, these alone are worth the visit. The side salad was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy goat cheese took it from "just a side salad" to something I'd happily order again. It was the perfect balance to all those delicious fries. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers great food in a welcoming atmosphere, Kickstand Coffee should absolutely be on your list. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and it's one of those places we recommend without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone who asks where to eat. I now wish I didn't let my husband eat more of the fries. Gotta head back up there soon! Service was great and love that the girl at the counter asked me if I was doing anything fun today - extra friendliness goes a long way!

They have plenty of outdoor seating for your little pups, though the water dish they left out was unattended to. As far as food, they had a whole plant-based menu to meet my vegan needs. More important, they were able to make a gluten-free sandwich for my partner with celiac. They took precautions to minimize cross-contact with gluten items, including wrapping the sandwich up separately and bringing it out to us first before bringing out our gluten containing items. The three in our group had mixed reviews on the food quality. I enjoyed my reuben very much. My partner and his mom thought their food was okay, and their portions were too small for the price. As far as the actual store goes, they carry a lot of what your typical natural foods store or food co-op would carry, though the prices seem more along the lines of what a Whole Foods would charge. For example, $3.50 for a single avocado. Considering that they are a small business in a somewhat touristy town, I guess that is a sound business decision.
