Stopped by Doppio zero in San Carlos the other night for a late dinner and overall had a great time. We got sat promptly and even though it was busy we didn't have to have long for our server (Christan) to come over and greet us which was fantastic. We started with the nectarine salad and the burrata and prosciutto. Both were super fresh and crisp. Great way to start the meal. They have a great bar selection and wine selection I went with a sparkling rose which definitely complimented the appetizers. I then got the wild boar pasta subbed the fettuccine for a gluten-free penne. I love that they have the option to sub for a gluten free pasta it makes it so I have many more options to choose from for entrees. My dish had such deep rich flavors I would definitely come back just for that. My mother and sister decided to split one of the wood fire pizzas the formagio and sage. Both said it had the perfect crunch on the crust and flavor was nice. One highlight is that our server Christan was fabulous he was always readily available and he made sure we had new clean share plates and personal silverware between courses. Only low lights would be the acoustics inside. The restaurant are not very good. You will have a very hard time hearing each other unless you sit outside. I surprisingly really enjoyed our meal here. I've been to the SF location before, but honestly couldn't remember whether I liked it or not. My husband and I were in downtown San Carlos for date night and while we didn't originally plan to eat here, we ended up stopping in and I'm glad we did. It helped that it wasn't too busy, but still a good amount of tables were taken. We started with the cauliflower appetizer and it was better than expected. At first, I wished it were a little crispier, but I realized some pieces were cooked better than others (would prefer if all pieces were crispy!). It was one of those dishes that got better the more I ate it and I think I enjoyed it so much because of the sauce it came with. For our mains, we ordered the fettuccine oxtail or short rib?? pasta and the Doppio pizza and both were solid. This has become a place we go to every time we're in the area. This time we had: 1. Bread and oil/vinegar. The first basket is free, then they charge $2.50 for each additional basket. The bread is pretty good--baked in house daily, they say. 2. Fave e Cavolo, $15. Very good! Tuscan kale with shaved parmiggiano reggiano on fava puree. 3. Cauliflower, $15. Lightly battered and fried cauliflower florets, parmiggiano reggiano, Calabrian chili aioli, fried basil. Pretty good! Not overly battered or oily. 4. Il Polpo, $19. Octopus, arugula, cherry tomatoes, garbanzo bean puree, arugula. I only had the salad portion, but it was very good! My dining companions enjoyed the octopus. 5. Nectarine salad, $15. Excellent, as always! Still one of the best (or the best) salads I've had. I have to order this every time I come. It is somewhat sizable, so could easily be shared between 2-3 people unless you want to make this the bulk of your meal. 6. Spaghetti Pescatore, $26. Pretty good! Slightly spicy tomato sauce, calamari rings, octopus slices. 7. Pulcinella Pizza, $23. Very good/excellent! Probably my favorite pizza here (Margherita is also very good). Tender chunks of eggplant, mozzarella, tomato sauce, little bit of pesto here and there, and some shreds of ricotta salata. 8. Tiramisu, $10. A cup of creamy tiramisu. Nice espresso flavor, but I would have liked more ladyfingers in proportion to the amount of creamy filling/topping. 9. Limoncello cake, $14. Sicilian lemon sponge cake, mascarpone, white chocolate curls, and berries. Excellent! Probably my favorite dessert here. Good balance of sweet, fruity, creamy, tangy. 10. Mango sorbet. Excellent! 11. Cannolo. Excellent, although I'm not really a cannolo person and so didn't love it for myself. This was an excellent cannolo, though! 12. Tartufo (I think) Chocolate/hazelnut ice cream. Very good! 13. Truffle fries, $12. Very good! Overall, my favorite things were the Pulcinella pizza, nectarine salad, and the limoncello cake. I've been to Dippio Zero in Campbell before, I love their pizzas, calamari and cocktails! This was my first time in this San Carlos location. I know was was late as we were seated this particular Friday night, but the waitress we had was basically missing! Hee. We had to ask for more water from the guy bussing the table and then once we got our food from that food runner, he was more helpful in getting us our bill and a box. I'm guessing our waitress was trying to close out her till or cleaning up in the back, but the 19 year old college student helped us more than she did! I really need to start carrying cash on me, because I would've tipped him $5-10 for all the help we got from him versus tipping her..... ugh. That young gentleman will make it as a server! He was very apologetic, had a great smile and he spoke Spanish too. Knowing multiple languages is always a plus, especially around Silicon Valley! Finally got to trying this place! The location is fantastic and they have great indoor and outdoor seating! Inside is decorated very well and has different seating areas/types. The menu has a good number of options for everyone and prices are pretty fair for the experience/food. Service was good (nothing notable). Wait times were average (except they ran out of bread so that came after our entrees haha). The fried articles were surprisingly so yummy! They were crispy, soft, and flavorful. My pasta was amazing. The sauce was flavorful and there was so much seafood! The pizza was average...it needed more oven time cause the bottom was a bit soggy and light-colored. So that was a bit disappointing! Located in San Carlos downtown, parking is plentiful but busy. Ambiance is not too busy. We had a group of 20 which by far were the largest and loudest...oops. The servers were kind and efficient. There were also a lot of available tables given a Sunday afternoon. Figs & prosciutto (4/5): so yummy. The prosciutto was salty but the figs and burrata helped balance the flavor. The dog was also very fluffy and soft even though it was thin. Overall, Doppio zero has some delicious pizza. Service is spectacular as waiters check in and fill waters as needed. Additionally I want to point out that they messed up one of our orders by giving it to the wrong person. However they rectified it by making a replacement order free of charge. read more

Didn't want to cook, decided pizza, but somewhere new - wow a reasonable price for two pizzas - I ordered the doppio zero pizza and husband ordered the salciccia - we shared them and still only ate the equivalent to f 1 pizza - really was looking forward to cold pizza for breakfast, but son found it when he got home and snarfed it right down. The flavors are each so good, from the prosciutto to the buffalo to the olives - the only downside was that it was a little salty - but what would I change to make it less so? No idea. Boyfriend and I were in Redwood City looking for something to eat but couldn't find parking so we went here. Still a little hard to find parking in this area but eventually did find one. It is hard to get a table here without a reservation but luckily, they had first come first serve bar seating so we did not wait long at all. If you do have a big party, I suggest making a reservation. The inside is beautifully decorated and great for date night or group outing. They had outdoor street seating and big inside area. The bar was spacious and long splitting the restaurant in half. I believe I saw a spacious area in the back where you can have a big party. We ordered the hot honey pizza (only a daily special item), fettuccine short ribs, and Brussel sprouts. Everything was super tasty. My favorite was the fettuccine short rib and it had good ratio short ribs to fettuccine. I didn't run out of short ribs which was a great sign. Some places give you very little protein with your pasta but not this one. Brussel sprouts were crispy and not soggy at all. 10/10 would come back again. read more

Came in right at 4:30 for happy hour. Some restaurants are very particular about letting me dine indoors with my service dog, but the staff here was friendly about it and very welcoming, which I appreciate. Good to know before going that happy hour is only for the indoor bar area. I got the Gnocchi Sorrentina from the happy hour menu for $12. Large portion and really good sauce. At these prices, and with this level of quality of food and service, it just felt sort of like being in a cafeteria to me. And we were placed at a table which was super awkward, kind of partly next to a wall, partly not, and one of the waiters for a big table behind us literally bumped into my chair every time he walked by, which was super annoying. They have cheesy plastic cards on the table with a QR code that you're supposed to look at for something... I'm not sure what as they actually hand you a real menu. Tacky. We were seated in the back, we had several small kids and I asked about where to park the stroller and was met with some ridiculous comment how it was "the size of a car" or something we ended up tucking the stroller in the back. San Carlos is very family-oriented so good luck with that attitude! Server came by, forgot my drink, we ordered two pizzas and a salad to start. Food came fast. The sausage pizza was good, the margarita one was ok, the mushroom was probably one of the more filling and flavorful ones. The short rib ragu was simple. Salad was ok. I wasn't blown away by any of the dishes but literally had to flag down the maitre d and servers every time we needed water, utensils, more food. It was comical. Came in on a Thursday night and had a great evening with delicious food. I don't usually have Italian cuisine but I was in the mood for it, and I'm so glad I gave this place a shot. To me the star of the show is their pizzas; there's a variety of options and they're each made very well. The pizza had a good snap and thin crust- made it addictive; burrata cheese was creamy and the pistachios were a great addition on the mortadella pizza for added texture. Thursday night still had a decent amount of people so it's a little noisy but I could walk in and get a table no problem. Updating my review: After months of trying to resolve this issue directly, I eventually reached out to NBC Bay Area's consumer team. Shortly after that, Doppio Zero refunded a portion of the disputed fees. While I appreciate receiving a partial refund, it came nearly two months after the event and only after outside media involvement. The timing made it difficult not to feel that the refund occurred only because the situation had been escalated. Based on my experience, I would recommend getting all pricing, fees, guest counts, and event terms in writing before booking. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled has left me without confidence in the business, and I would not choose to host another event there in the future. read more

Ambiance is fantastic- I'd go back simply for the light and breezy feel of the place. I took my parents for their anniversary lunch and it was a wonderful experience. I really appreciate the two clearly labeled vegan entrees- ravioli and pizza. Couple areas of improvement- while the broccolini and fries starters were amazing, the vegan entrees were quite bland. Definitely could use more flavor- that being said, I got some Calabrian chilies on the side and that really brightened up the dish. Secondly, I wonder what was going on with the service because the restaurant was only maybe 20% full but service was slow, forgetful, and lacked attention to details. We ordered a second glass of wine and it never came and we ignored it, but it was on the bill. I pointed it out and they were super apologetic and said they'd take it off, but when they ran my card it was the same wrong amount. It then took them another 20 minutes to figure out their system and fix it. Beautiful inside and out -- this is the kind of place that works for everything from a casual brunch to a fancy romantic dinner. Definitely a spot you can dress up for if you want to. The space is huge, with plenty of indoor seating and a large, dog-friendly outdoor patio. Their squid ink pasta seems to be a favorite here, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. I also loved that they offer a nice variety of mocktails for non-alcoholic folks like me. And yes -- everything here is super Instagrammable, which is always a bonus. The service was very attentive. Came here on a weekday with family few weeks ago. I also came here last year one time but never had the chance to write a review till now. Parking was easy to find on the streets. We got seated indoors since it was pretty hot that day. We got here right around opening too so barely any customers which was nice. (I'm sure they are super busy at night though) What we ordered: Nectarine salad: So delicious and refreshing to eat on a hot summer day. I am a huge arugula leaf fan so I was excited to try this and it was soooo good. Def a must order! Figs pizza: Mhmm figs + prosciutto! It can't get any better than that. Soooooo good!! This was our 2nd time dining here and 3rd time if you include take out. I came here with my wife for my bday dinner. We arrived an hour early than our reservation time and was greeted by a friendly team. They seated us right away in the area we requested which was the side next to the bar. We love the energy and ambiance of that side more than the main room, which is also well designed but a bit different vibe. Since it was my birthday, we decided to order 3 dishes vs our usual 2. We ordered the squid ink pasta with clams and scallops, the short rib pasta, and the margarita pizza. Squid Ink Pasta- the seafood was super fresh and the sauce really complimented the pasta and seafood. My wife and I would have like the pasta a little more al dente but still really good. I also prefer a bit more squid ink for the seafood and tartness it brings. Other than that, the dish was balanced with the creamy spicy red sauce and the buttery scallops and perfectly cooked clams. Short Rib Pasta- this dish is consistently good. It was our second time ordering it and it did not disappoint. I like that the ribs were shredded into the sauce but still had texture and its own flavor. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce had the right amount of acidity to balance out the dish. The short rib was tender and added the richness and the pasta was a great vehicle for enjoying that. Portion was generous so we had leftovers. Margarita Pizza- pizza in its purest form. This is always something we order here. Whether to go or dine in, the pizza dough, sauce and cheese always deliver. There was a nice chew with the dough while also have the char and smoke that we like. There was the perfect amount of sauce, cheese and basil so it wasn't super watery or soggy. Probably our favorite pizza for this style. We also like the fungi pizza from Delfina in Burlingame but the texture on dough is different. Pausa was too salty and not smoky enough for us. Tiramisu- not pictured but they surprised us and comped us our dessert which was tiramisu. The flavors and texture were good. Only critique is for the lady fingers, to not have sugar sprinkled on it. It made the dish a bit too sweet and the crunchy texture of the sugar took away from the dish. The custard and espresso and chocolate were great. Another fantastic Italian choice in the Bay Area. This is my third time here, but my first review. If you go, please start slow, take your time, and enjoy some wine and appetizers. Start with some olives and the fried artichoke. It's a Roman specialty and Dopio Zero does it well. Tonight my group had the gnocchi, fettuccini with short rib sauce, and a pizza -- all were spot on. I heard great things about Doppio and wanted to give this location a try. May be I came with great expectations, and walked out feeling just another ordinary place. I love squid ink pasta and I would order this everytime I see this on the menu. When comparing theirs with my regular go-to place, mine was much better. While their pasta was al dente, but i felt another 30 sec would do the trick. In terms of the sauce and the level of spiciness, they were also a tad behind. Was looking for a spot to dine for late lunch and came across this spot in downtown San Carlos area. I have dined at a similar restaurant before in a different location, so first time to try them in San Carlos. The ambiance is elegant and catchy. The place is clean, fresh with gorgeous design. They have both indoor and outdoor dinning. The host was friendly and accommodating and he was able to seat me to a table quickly. It was almost nearing the time of their afternoon closing in preparation for thier dinner, he explained that to me so I immediately elected to order my drink, my meal and dessert. My server was prompt and helpful. My drink aperole spritz was perfectly refreshing and my gnochi pasta was tasty and delicious as well as my desert was really good too! Doppio Zero popped up on my Instagram feed that they offer truffle fettucine made in a cheese wheel on Tuesdays! So I check their website to confirm, and there it is, Fettucini Tartufo Nero for $36. My ten year old daughter loves this dish! The only place we've ordered it from was Eataly, which is all the way in Santa Clara. I was so excited to bring the family so we get to the restaurant last Tuesday at 5pm to take advantage of the Happy Hour menu and my daughter ends up in tears when the host informs us that there is no truffle pasta today and that the website is not up to date!!! What a disappointment! We decided to dine at Doppio Zero anyways since we were already there. I must say they have an incredible Happy Hour menu! Cocktails are $3 off and wines by the glass are $4 off! We ordered the truffle French fries, arugula salad, croquettes, polpettine (meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce), gnocchi, and two pizzas-a margherita and one with chorizo. The menu said the pizzas were 6", but they were more like 8" or 9." It was a total bargain for all that food, plus drinks for about $100! Food was great and so was the service! My disappointed daughter even loved the gnocci, which was served carbonara style. We'll definitely be back! I'll just call next time to make sure they have the truffle pasta dish!!! read more

This was my first time at Doppio Zero San Carlos, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. For a table of three, we ordered a well-balanced spread: a salad, a pasta, and two pizzas to share--and we devoured almost everything (just one lonely slice of pizza made it home). The Beet Salad was a standout starter--fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. I especially loved the creamy cheese paired with the sweetness of the roasted beets and citrus notes. The Figs White Pizza was hands down my favorite dish of the night. Sweet figs, savory cheese, and just the right amount of bite--it was that perfect combo of salty and sweet that keeps you reaching for another slice. We also tried the Fettuccine with Short Rib, which was rich, hearty, and beautifully cooked. The pasta was fresh and the meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender. The Jalapeño Pizza had a nice kick but not too spicy. I liked it but did not LOVE. It. Drinks-wise, I couldn't resist the Dragon Aperol Spritz--so good I had to order a second. Refreshing, slightly bitter, and perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, and it paired great with everything on the table. The only downside: our table was right next to the kitchen, and it got noticeably warm at times. But Overall, the experience was great: friendly service, food that impressed, and a cool, modern vibe. Came in for lunch based on recommendations from a colleague. Was seated immediately and water delivered. Small menu for lunch so I got the meatballs, gotta try meatballs in any Italian place, and the squid ink pasta with scallops and clams. Meatballs were delicious, so much like homemade from my youth. Pasta was delicious, clams cooked perfectly, it stuck to the shells, scallops were cut into pieces but cooked well. Little spicy, really tasty. Pasta cooked perfectly as well. Doppio zero has tasty food and decent service. I went for a friend's birthday party and we had to wave down our server on more than one occasion. This upscale Italian spot has nice ambiance and homemade pasta at a reasonable price. I had the doppio bourbon as a drink and it was...interesting. A sangria of sorts but you get to chose how much (and when) to add the wine. It was pretty strong though so that was a plus. In terms of food, I tried the meatballs (3.5/5; nothing special. Sauce needed more flavor), croquettes (4/5; decent. Basically fried mashed potatoes), truffle fries (4.5/5; nice flavor but a little oily), short rib fettuccini (4.5/5, very flavorful with a good portion), and my main was the marechiaro (4.25/5; a squid ink pasta was clams and scallops in a tomato sauce. This dish was quite flavorful and the seafood was plentiful but I honestly felt a bit hungry when I finished). Overall, I had a good meal at doppio zero and the food was reasonably priced (for the area) but the service and cake fee ($2 per slice for a cake we brought!) soured my experience a bit. read more

Amazing wide selection of pizzas and appetizers/pastas, there's something for everyone here! The restaurant is beautiful and has a lively chatter, perfect for a birthday or fun night out. For appetizers we got the Polettine (meatballs), little gem salad (basically a Caesar), and Crostone del Vesuvio. The crostone was a let down, it wasn't bad but there just wasn't much depth of flavor. Pretty much just tasted like buratta with a little salt. La Carne pizza was great, but we asked for some fresh basil and they charged us $1.50 for 5 leaves... I loved my mushroom ravioli w truffle sauce, it was so rich, but here are my criticisms. First off, I think it was overcooked. Not sure if ravioli isn't supposed to be al dente but this definitely was not. And secondly, the flavor is so rich and the texture so monotonous that without taking bites of other people's food in between, it felt exhausting to eat. I would order again, but request it cooked less. read more
