I really missed this small, but cozy restaurant that offers such delicious food and cocktails! In my recent trips to here with a few Yelpers, I'm glad to know Dorado hasn't skipped a beat during my 2-year hiatus. My go-to is usually the Paloma cocktail and Enchiladas, but from recent photos I was inspired to order the Quesadillas as my main entree. Along with that, I decided to compliment that with some Chorizo con Queso to share and a smokey, strong Smokehouse cocktail made with mezcal and bourbon. Our server, Chris, was beyond exceptional really drilled down our awesome lunch here! The CcQ portion much larger than expected: we kept digging in with our chips, but no bottom of the bowl was found despite our numerous bites. Being a cheese dish, it wasn't too salty and the ground chorizo was perfect mixture ratio-- but then again, is there such a thing as too much meat? The Quesadillas are awesome to try. The setup was simple, but with the crispy cheese edge contrast on the perfectly grilled tortilla, and the interior absolutely stuffed with shrimp, beans, cheese and veggies... it looked and was muy delicioso! Each bite I took made the innards explode out the side, so I used the crispy cheese side and folded it like an origami sandwich. I really wish that was the chef's intention and not just a half-hazard way to instate my greed. Nonetheless, though the presentation of the food is simple, the flavor, texture and quantity go a long way. I was so stuffed from the appetizer and quesadillas that I actually gave away the rest to my friend. I can't believe I was brought to that level! I enjoyed dinner on at Dorado last week. We had a table outside on the the patio and it was a marvelous way to people watch and take in the final days of summer. I found the service to be attentive and friendly. The menu is straightforward, but in a good way. All items are clearly displayed on one page. I ended up getting the Enchiladas Mole and enjoyed it immensely. The mole sauce was rich and flavorful. It accompanied the tender chicken enchiladas well. I also liked the crema and queso fresco mixed into the dish. Things that were not great included the beans and rice that accompanied the enchiladas. They were really nothing special and just bland filler in my opinion. Also disappointing was the guacamole. Maybe it was an off day, but I definitely make better guacamole. Overall, I had a great dining experience at Dorado. The Park Ave patio atmosphere really makes it work. The good service and food also help. I'll be back. read more

Ate dinner here with my sister a couple weeks ago on our way to an event. It was only my 2nd time eating here in all the years they have been open. I think the fact that they are always so packed and the crowd seems so young have been putting me off. I was imagining that the food would be so-so and the atmosphere more like a 'see and be seen' kind of vibe. But I was wrong (well, about the food anyway), and I am so happy to know their food is so good! The place was, as mentioned above, packed, so we ended up sitting at the bar inside with the bartender taking our orders. We each ordered tacos and the trio of dips (salsa, corn salsa and guac). We expected the dips to come out first, but the bartender forgot to put the order in, so our tacos came out, and no chips/salsa. I reminded her and she promptly brought out a tray of fresh chips and the dips, and then proceeded to profusely apologize and tell us that the dips were on her for the mistake. I like it! As for the tacos, these are not your 'typical' 'street tacos'. We were expecting our plates to contain a couple small (4-inch) tacos that would be filled with a couple bites of meat, but what we got were two enormous tacos stuffed with so much filling I had to eat part of it with a fork before I could pick up the taco! And they were so big I could only eat one and took the other one home. I loved the flavor of the braised meats and combination with the soft taco shell, and the side salad that came on the plate. For $10 I thought it was an awesome meal. I will definitely be back and look forward to eating outside next time and having some cocktails along with my meal. read more

First time on a hot night in Rochester. Place is tiny inside, but plentiful outside tables. Service was interesting in a negative way. Not sure, but felt like we should be in reverse roles. Carnita Asada yummy. Table was the only thing wiped down. Ledge, chairs and hot sauce container on table were dirty. We LOVE LOVE LOVE Dorado. It's intimate with a great menu for anyone looking from tapas to family style. With only a few small tables inside this place is really perfect for outside seating in the summer. Really, this place is fabulous year round but who doesn't love cocktails in the sun? Especially on Park Ave! In my early college days my friends and I would sit outside sipping mojitos watching the men jog by. It's a fabulous view. Now, I often visit Dorado now with friends and occasionally colleagues for a quick bite to nosh and catch up. I didn't get a chance to try the food, due to the fact it was over booked and that's fine. My review is based off the rudeness of the hostess/ waitress . I knew there was a wait and that's to be expected. I asked her if we can have a drink while we waited she said no. So rude and so unprofessional. That's not how you do business. What would it hurt if we had a margarita while we waited for a table? Unfortunately I leave tomorrow I'm from out of town. So I guess I'll never get the chance to actually try the food. If you're looking for a 'date night' spot in the Park Avenue neighborhood, this is a great option for you! The restaurant and bar are small and tables are a bit cramped for more than 2 people. However, the cozy/bistro atmosphere seems intentional. The Cadillac Margarita is delicious and sneaks up on you. I'd recommend trying the Chimichanga or other type of burrito for you're meal. The portions aren't massive so you should definitely start with chips (seasoned perfectly) and salsa, but that's a given! read more

I was in town for business and actually stopped at a local winery Casa Larga, where the girl who helped with my tasting, pointed me in the direction of Park Ave, and recommended Dorado. She said I had to get the Coconut margarita, with sugar on the rim. I was hesitant because I don't typically like coconut but it was TO DIE FOR! I ordered their tacos, which you can mix-n-match....so I got the Tilapia, Chicken and Chorizo. It was excellent, but it's small so make sure you get there before 5, it filled up pretty quickly and 100% worth it! read more

First, amazing food. Tok bad the service was poor. If your not dining in or are by yourself, maybe consider somewhere else. They refused to take my to go order and pretty much ignored me after that. I stayed for a drink and dined in at the bar but definitely felt like they were completely unconcerned with me. I had to literally wave and ask for service, very uncomfortable. We were told 30 minutes but it only took 5 minutes. We sat down and that's when it all went downhill. Waited 15 minutes just to get greeted. It's been an hour by now and we were informed our food hasn't even started yet lol. ....Finally our appetizer came out. Waitress didn't give us plates. I was eating off my napkin. We asked a different waiter as he was walking by to give us plates. Then our entrees came out, served by someone else. We didn't see our waitress once after our food was delivered. Didn't ask how it was or anything. We asked a different waiter for the bill after we finished eating. We were maybe hoping for something to be accommodated due to the mishap ...nothing. We finally used a gift card for the five Swan restaurants and chose Dorado after looking at the menu. My wife got the salmon with jalapeño sauce and Ingot the Chimichanga. Both were delish and filling. The happy hour $3 Dos Equis was a nice touch. A small but comfortable space. The server was outstanding as well. And she had a lot of tables to tend to. We went for an early dinner and there was no wait, but enough guests for a comfortable happy hour. The ambiance was okay but the phone kept ringing (it must've been close to our table because it was super loud) and there were annoying bugs (probably because they leave the front door open). Our server was nice but didn't seem to give us as much attention as the surrounding tables, and we had to wait for a bit to place our order despite not getting drinks or an appetizer. I got the El Plato Grande - it was tasty and a big portion! However, it was a bit messy and I think parts of the cheese were burnt, making it all stuck together and difficult to eat. I thought about getting a margarita but it seemed like on the rocks was the only option, and I prefer blended (but other people's did look good)! Dorado is one of my go-tos in the summer. It's my favorite spot to go for a margarita and outdoor seating on Park Ave. I'm pretty partial to their chorizo lately so that's the track I've been on when ordering: - Chorizo tacos - Chorizo quesadilla - that extra crispy cheese that melts outside the quesadilla is just phenomenal - Queso with chorizo - just spicy enough and the portion is huge! Great for a few folks to share. - Their tequila selection is top notch. After a margarita, I'll go for tequila on the rocks with a splash of lime. Usually a reposado -- casamigos is great! - I love their side salad and the vinaigrette. The homemade hot sauce is always a must add. - Salsas are delicious too - the mango one is my fave It's a solid go-to spot for a bite when we don't want to go too far and need to grab a quick, tasty bite and craving Mexican food. This place is a hidden gem. It's very small, I imagine getting a table on the weekend is probably next to impossible, I would go plan on an early or late dinner & not attempt to go during prime dinner time or you will have a long wait to be seated. I am not sure if they take reservations. We visited on a Tuesday and sat at the bar. As I said, limited seating is definitely an issue. It was packed, not a ton of room to move around (including wait staff). It was slightly annoying to be bumped into every few minutes, but idk I wasn't terrible bothered by it. However, if you have social anxiety or a fear of tight spaces, this is not the place for you. The food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the made to order Queso with Chorizo it was fresh, & delicious! The only thing to with the Queso is that, sadly, it's not available to go. I assume because Queso will separate when it cools & doesn't look very appealing. Tuesdays, they have a special Street Tacos for $3.50. I got one Mahi-Mahi, I am not really a fish lover, at my friend's urging I decided to try it & I was happy I did, it was very tasty & one Beef which was also delicious. The bartender was very friendly & on top of everything. He refilled our drinks in a timely manner, got our order right, our food was delivered hot. I placed an order through Grubhub on 4/11/22 at 7:20pm. I received a text at 7:24pm stating "Dorado is preparing your order, to be delivered between 7:56 PM and 8:06 PM." I received another text at 8:03pm stating "Your order is delayed and will now arrive between 8:25 PM and 8:35 PM. We're doing everything we can to get it to you ASAP." I tried to call Dorado several times but the phone is set up for an automated system so no one answers the phone. I texted the drive who was waiting for the order at 8:17pm. He responded with "I'm at the restaurant came to pick it up the order and they said someone els picked up the order now I'm on the phone with grub hub customer service regarding your order". At 8:21pm Grubhub customer service called me stating that the restaurant have my order to someone else and is refusing to remake the order. So waiting an hour for dinner, for Dorado to give away an $90 order to the wrong person and refused to remake it and not care that they gave away my family's dinner. I love dorado and it's a go to when I come home and visit! Today we sadly had the worst service ever. Sat down, our water glasses were dirty. One had a lipstick smudge, mine had food caked onto the inside of the cup. Our server seemed irritated that we didn't order cocktails? We were brought salsa rather than the guacamole we ordered but were still charged for the salsa? Our server never came back to check on us and we had to seek her out to get a refill of chips. We always forget about this Mexican place in Rochester. In summer it has the best outside viewing given it is right on Park avenue. The inside is pretty tight when dining here the rest of the year. I started with a mai tai. What Mexican restaurant has mai tais- nice?! We ordered the chorizo fondue dip appetizer and it was very good. We then both ordered enchiladas one verde and one red. This is a perfect place to go for either a Mexican food craving or a tequila craving. We stopped in tonight and were immediately sat at the bar which was great because it's a little cold out, but they do have outdoor seating with heat lamps so if you want to avoid a wait for indoor seating dress in warm clothes and the outdoor seating will be fine. We ordered chips and salsa, which were a simple start to the meal and held us over until the entrees arrived. The salsa is more of a chunky pico than a thin salsa, next time we'll definitely be getting the trio with guacamole and specialty salsa. I ordered chicken soft tacos served with greens and my spouse ordered spicy fish. The spicy fish was really good, served with rice and was a great seafood Mexican dish that's a little outside of the box. My tacos were simple at first glance, just being a soft taco with meat, cheese and a simple slaw, but once you take a bite it becomes one of the best tacos you've ever had. My spouse and I had to order extra tacos after we had ordered because they were so good. My issues with the tacos are that the menu states tacos are served with guac and alas no guac was found. Also they're served with greens which aren't bad but I'd prefer something more authentic like beans and rice. Our bartender Selena was very attentive and helpful, also making a mean Apple cider margarita. This may not be the most authentic Mexican cuisine in Rochester but it is definitely a front runner. read more

Husband and i went for dinner on a Sunday eve. Ordered the chips and salsas (trio) which was pretty good. We both ordered tacos. We waited over 45 minutes for the meal. Server apologetic but 45+ min for tacos? When the meal finally came my tacos were refrigerator cold. Inedible. I usually don't mind waiting but to wait this long AND have an Inedible meal when it is served? Unacceptable in my book. I would not recommend someone come here. The atmosphere is nice but the service and food make it not worth the trip. In terms of food I got two mahi mahi tacos with a "side of greens". Tacos were good enough and the side of greens was literally just lettuce on the side of my plate. Not worth is for $12.50. In terms of service, our waiter kept going to the bar to take shots and flirts with the bartender and even forgot to come back to us once he dropped off the check. I had to get up and ask the hostess to ring me up. Additionally I went to the restroom at one point and it doesn't seem to be cleaned regularly and on top of it the soap was empty.... it also seemed as if that was the employee restroom as well so that was incredibly concerning. If you want a real margarita, come here! The bartender is always super friendly and eager to impress with his alchemy skills. Their margaritas are a perfect blend of sour mix and tequila, and I like a rim of salt. My girlfriend is obsessed with the coconut margarita. There are many to choose from, and happy hour is from 3 to 6, featuring the house margaritas and the classic margaritas for $5. This place is always hopping in the summer, so good luck getting a seat. What I don't like about it is is extremely small and cramped and can only fit a few select number of people. But if you're able to sit at the bar or a table, it's worth it. We had a quesadilla on special the other day and it was great. I believe that was the steak quesadilla, which I would never order but the girls did and it was a very nice surprise. We also had the chips with the 3 dips. Guacamole , queso and I believe a mango salsa... loved it. He also brought us more chips when he noticed that the chips are almost gone but the dip wasn't. A long established restaurant on Park Avenue. I have spent years avoiding it but last night it became my second choice because the wait time at my first choice was too long. There is ample outdoor seating and maybe seven or eight tables inside comfortably arranged. Monday night was slow. The server inside was very friendly and attentive. I started with the house Margarita. Freshly made but not a great taste and definitely short on Tequila. The Trio is an appetizer with fresh totopos and three dips: guacamole, salsa and pineapple. I don't know how the pineapple got there, it's not from Mexico. The salsa tasted acrid, like it came from a can. The guacamole was fresh but mediocre. We split an entrée of Mahi-Mahi and rice. The sauce for the fish was great but the fish tasted fishy. I should have remembered not to order fish on Mondays. The fish is left over from the weekend. The chef should know this too and remove it from the menu if it is not the catch of the day. read more

Dorado is a cozy little restaurant on Park Avenue that serves great Latin-style food and cocktails! The first time I tried Dorado was with my date who was looking to challenge their "Best Margarita!" claim. It was rather late on a Saturday night, but we found two seats at the small "bar" in the center of the restaurant. The decor is bright and features crafty artwork as well as interesting murals, and a ceiling that evokes a sunny sky. The staff was friendly and made us feel right at home and made several good suggestions for drinks. Since it was late October, my date tried the Halloween-themed margarita while I stuck with the traditional. Both were tasty and fresh and worth the visit! Second visit was last month for dinner with friends. Our trio was promptly greeted and seated. We enjoyed homemade salsa and chips and tasty margaritas while we waited for our entrees. My Enchiladas Verdes were tasty and fresh, which both subtle and strong seasonings complementing the meats and cheeses. We tried for dessert but unfortunately they were out of flan. After traipsing about Rochester, co-working, brainstorming, meeting-ing, we decided to celebrate the afternoon with a well-deserved marg. And Dorado did us proud! Their margarita (and cocktail) list is pretty choice, from a coconut option to a Mexican car crash, there's likely a beverage for any taste. Breanna and I both went with the recommended house margarita, made with reposado. Said beverage was none too sweet or sour and went well with our trio dips (guac, flavorful roasted tomato salsa, and black bean/corn salsa). The salsa was the star of the trio, while I found the guac and the black bean/corn salsa pretty bland. Both of those dips could have used some salt, lime, and spice. The patio was a great place for a cocktail, and the service was friendly and helpful. When I find myself in Rochester again and enjoying another glorious patio-right day, Dorado is on my list! read more

Only go to this restaurant if you want to experience HORRIBLE customer service and to feel very disrespected. My friends are I love Dorado, and have never had a bad experience. We were looking forward to having a good night out with great food. When we showed up to the restaurant around 8:00pm we asked for a table of 5- I was told the wait would be 45 minutes and we could wait outside or in. We thought "sure we will wait". We noticed our other friends were sitting out side so we decided to talk to them and say hi. I heard one of the servers say to my group of friends "you need to move because I need to put a table here". Instead of saying "please" or being a little nicer about it. So then we went inside and one of the servers pushed me out of the way saying "coming through". Again no please, no excuse me. I saw a table open up for 5 people and I went up to ask if we could sit there because no one else was waiting. The server then said "hold on one minute I have to take this shot " and proceeded to take a shot of Alcohol right in front of me. I walked away and was standing next to my friends and the same server came over and instead of saying "excuse me" she said "what is going on here". We weren't causing any trouble, we were waiting for our table patiently. Dorado is a very small place so there wasn't much room to begin with. My friend then spoke up and told the bartender about how rude the severs were being toward us. The bartender then had a word with the servers and we thought the service would get better. The bartender was great, she was so nice, helpful and apologetic that the two servers working were being very rude. Finally our table is ready around 9:30pm and we sit down to order. I then order my meal and I said "can I have a burrito bowl with no cheese and no beans because I am lactose intolerant". when our food finally came out my bowl had beans and cheese in it. She came over 5 minutes after dropping the food off and said "your bowl has cheese and beans in it want us to remake it" instead of apologizing or seeming sincere and if she knew my food was wrong why did she drop it off in the first place. I said no because my table was so hungry after waiting so long for a table and it was already such a horrible experience I just wanted to get out of there. When our bill came she didn't take my meal off the bill, she didn't apologize, nothing. The only person who apologized or seemed like they cared was the bartender. She was great. I am very sad to say my friends and I will never be coming back to Dorato after that horrible experience and I have spread the word around as well. This was my first time here. The place is very small and quaint, so if you are looking for a romantic dinner where you can speak without other tables hearing, this is not the scene. However, it has a very intriguing and artsy aesthetic. The bottles hanging from the bar are so fun. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I got the Salsa Trio as an appetizer and the El Plato Grande. My boyfriend got the Seared Steak Fajitas. For drinks, I got a spicy margarita and the coconut margarita, both were excellent. My boyfriend who rarely drinks when we go out to eat had the house margarita and loved it as well. Street parking was limited and we had to park off a side street. read more

The soft breeze, the people watching and light discussion was great. These pleasantries made this first visit bearable. After arriving, the menus were promptly delivered. However the one waiter was very busy. We sat for about 20 minutes before he returned to take our order. In these cases, I recommend ordering drinks and entrees at once - you may not see the server again. This was the case, our soft drinks arrived about 15 minutes later. Our entrees took 45 minutes to arrive. We're just talking salad and sandwiches. The Cuban pork that a couple people raved about was just short of horrible. I gave Dorado the benefit of doubt in my rating. And I almost always give restaurants a second or third chance. But, I will certainly not be returning to Dorado. read more

We ordered margaritas and a salsa trio to start. The salsa's and guacamole tasted great and were very fresh. Our margaritas were also made well and hit the spot. We ordered the carne asada tacos and the grande plate. The carne asada tacos seemed a little flavorless and the beef was chewy. Eh, the food is just okay and it seems over-hyped. It was really busy on a Friday night, but that's to be expected. They seemed pretty disorganized with taking names of people waiting and seating parties who were waiting. We had the trio and the salsas were decent but the guacamole was flavorless. I had the verde enchiladas with chicken and rice and beans. The rice and beans were just okay but were served lukewarm which wasn't the best. The verde sauce lacked flavor and was just average, at best. I don't think I'd go back, other than for the cocktails which were great. I am the type of person who enjoys always trying new restaurants and not frequenting the same places time and time again, but I must say, I think I'd become a regular here. And that's coming from someone who would take Italian or Chinese over Mexican most days. I felt like I was transported to a small authentic tequileria in Old Town San Diego and I couldn't get enough of it. We sat at the bar which somehow seemed to make it more enjoyable. Ordered some Mexican beers, the guac (fresh and delicious), some house cured Spanish olives which had a bite but were very good if you like that sort of thing, and a shrimp quesadilla that was oozing cheese and was out of this world. Staff was friendly, it has a quiet yet eclectic and engaging atmosphere at the bar - great for a date or catching up with a friend. Highly recommend. read more
