17k damage, can you see it?

Ranking as one of the biggest mistakes of my life, is taking my 6 year old Tesla model 3 to Dorn's autobody for repair. I was under the assumption that they were certified for Tesla body work. However, they have had their certification revoked, which suggests that they are pretty bad at repairing Tesla's, and likely other vehicles with sophisticated sensors. Of course, they didn't mention this when I contacted them. Instead, I received an email from Miranda Clare at Dorn's stating "We received your approved insurance estimate. After looking over the estimate from Farmers Insurance; we will just need a signed work authorization to confirm your drop-off repair appointment for May 13th". I made the mistake of trusting Dorn's and signed the document without first closely reading it. I just assumed that I wasn't going to get screwed by Dorn's, but in fact that seems to be their business model. They are looking to extract as much money from you and the insurance company as possible. The damage to the car was 3 minor dime sized dents in the driver's and passenger doors from a deer running into them. I was shocked when Farmer's estimated the repair to be $7628.78. I was more shocked when Clay Milburn at Dorn's estimated it to be 17k. After all, my car property tax was 19k. Dorn's apparently thinks that 3 dime sized dents are akin to a near write off. The adjustor at Farmer's told me that the additional parts requested by Dorn's were unnecessary, but Clay at Dorn's insisted that this is the way that Tesla is going. Which is ironic because how does a body shop that has had their certification revoked know which way Tesla is going? Anyway, it was already 2 weeks and nothing had been done, and it looked like there was a standoff between Farmer's and Dorn's. And I was paying for it with nearly $900 in rental car fees already. I asked Dorn's to reassemble my car and that I would bring it back when Farmer's and Dorn's figured it out. But Clay said that it had to remain disassembled for the independent adjuster. After three more weeks, I had had enough and demanded my car back. And this was just the beginning. Dorn's refused to give the money back to Farmer's. They took the $7628.78 and banked it for doing nothing but inconvenience me. Farmer's for nearly a year would not repair my car because Dorn's had absconded with the unearned money. In the end, I took my car to the only certified Tesla body shop in Richmond, Burleigh's. They were great. I dropped it off and it was repaired in less than 2 weeks at the estimated repair cost. No drama, no screwing the owner or insurance company. Just a reliable experience like you would hope. Now before you discount my experience as a one off, there are plenty of other similar complaints about Dorn's. Probably some of the most damning are written by previous employees on Indeed. Dorn's gets a 1.2 out of 5 on that site with one of the employees saying "Management is lacking scruples". It would appear that my negative experience is backed up by the employees who had worked at Dorn's day in and day out. In summary, do not take your car to Dorn's. Their only interests are to line their own pockets at the expense of the owner, the insurance company, and all of us who pay for collision on our cars.

After four months of having a new car with a signature line paint on it, a valet drove into a cement pole! Thankfully Dorn's repaired and painted my car to make it look brand new again. They did great bodywork, but were also very helpful with the insurance company I was dealing with since they were not my own. I highly recommend Dorn's. I've never needed a body shop before this, but if I ever need one again It will be to Dorn's. Thank you to every friendly helpful person there. Special thanks to Angela and Clay

The car was riding less than desirable, so I went back to exchange them for the correct size. They tried to charge me for installation AGAIN, and instead of prorating the extended warranty I already purchased, they tried to charge me for a second one. I finally got the correct size tires, but they were shaking worse than the first set! I took it back the next day for them to rebalance. The salesman asked if I went to get them balanced somewhere else after I left last night. That question was so idiotic that it took me a minute to register. He said there were two different sets of weights on the rim and one set wasn't theirs; he basically admitted that this was the first time they balanced my tires, even though they were supposed to be balanced at the time of purchase. Their corporate team reached out to me after I left a Google review, stating that someone would contact me within two business days. It has been four days, and I still have heard nothing. Response to comment. That's fascinating, because I didn't have any missed calls from that location. Maybe that's the philosophy of that location? Claiming work that wasn't performed? Cody's offered to refund the difference when I reached out to ask for the GM yesterday. I suggested that he have someone come to the Ford dealership to pick up the tires for a full refund; I no longer have faith in your company's work and would rather get new tires from a more reputable business. The fact that the newly purchased tires weren't balanced at all--not just once, but twice--is more than a little unsettling. Whether it was oversight or cutting corners, it put my safety at risk while driving.

Again this is someone whose shirt i complimented, with whom both of us had been cordial, but could not be talked into a calm state. All of this because i leveled with him and expressed nebulously aimed frustration over a job that didn't last for the drive home, as the explanation for why i was asking for a redo. I asked him, "i mean objectively, you can understand why I would expect it to last till i reached home two miles away?". His rumination on the phrase "i felt ripped off" in response to the crashwrap beginning to peel off 0.5 miles from the facility was self-driven. That being said, why even recommend this as a temporary fix if I can't drive home with it? I would've liked it done right the first time and that's fair to express. We don't have to agree or see eye to eye and it's his right to feel I'm overly difficult. It was suggested that I should've cleaned my car first, not that they should've wiped it down the first time before applying wrap. (The car wasn't in the shop to have any crashwrap applied, so why would I have wiped it?) Ultimately I paid $104 to get an issue diagnosed and temporary tape put on the sunroof. I'm frustrated that I'm out $100 and the issue is not any closer to being fixed. The technician himself was amiable and communicative and the owner is also a pleasant man to work with. That being said this experience has burnt this spot for me. Having a disagreeable person work for you isn't a dealbreaker but maybe don't place him front of house.

Will, the manager said no problem it would be a wait before they got to me. The wait wasnt long at all (45 mins) before my truck was driven into the garage bay. When the tire install was nearly finished they noticed the white lettering on the tires was showing outwards when I had asked for it to be showing inward. They advised my of their error and said they were adding more staff to the job so my wait time would be mitigated. When it came to calculating the bill, Will gave me a generous amount off the total bill for the longer wait time. I never asked or suggested a discount but they were kind enough to offer it. The entire crew there is very nice and informative and one employee (Mike I believe, Im bad a names and my apologies if I have the name wrong) shared stories about our older Toyota trucks. I'll be going back there.
