Wow. My boyfriend and I regularly eat here and love the food and the service. But tonight our server Alejandro (took from the receipt- he never introduced himself) made for a very bad experience. Right from the start he acted as if we were an inconvenience for him. He never said anything to us other than muttering under his breath and not being professional. The food came out ok but not as good as it usually is. They charged us $1.79 for a plate of lettuce with our ACP??? All around just a bad experience tonight. read more

I have always enjoyed this restaurant. Today was a very different experience. It was clean, but my waitress had her mask hanging. She put it on when I asked, but she made it clear she was not happy. My chips were not warm and seemed stale. When my food came, it was at room temperature only and my taco shell was so stale that it didn't snap when I bit it. I told the cashier who seemed to be the manager about the mask. He was very polite and seemed concerned, which was a plus. read more

I'm going to go on a bit of a rant. My father, brother and I went to dinner at a local restaurant and as we sat down a table of kids were talking, as we started ordering they kept getting louder and louder due to all the drinks they had ordered. Before we got our food the employees had sat two families to eat also. Well these kids (college age) started cussing like sailors and were being very very loud. As drinks kept coming we finished our meal and and were not only super ready to leave because the language was out of hand but they were being so loud it was a mini house party. As we left my father went up to the table and asked the guys to refrain from so much language around the kids and the guy bucked at my father stating what kids? With my father being the man that he is, he said once again to refrain from so much language around the kids. Kid bucked at my dad again. My rant is this. The kids that have been raised do not have the thoughtfulness of others around them. They care for themselves and no one else. I hate that I have to be part of the generation that is about me, myself and I. The kids that do not have any manners around others. Have respect for others. For the ones that actually raise their kids with manners. Have respect for families. We will never return to this establishment again because they do not know how to tell the patrons no that they have had enough to drink. We will not return to this establishment because when we spoke to a manager about the situation he said nothing other than sorry. Service is hit or miss here, usually always very quick, but staff may/may not be friendly. I really like the seafood options and the California burrito is also a favorite. My main complaint with this restaurant is the cleanliness, it's usually rather dirty. I still think it's the best Mexican food in town. read more

I eat here every year when I travel in the area. Tonight was the worst experience I've had here. They did not have the ingredients for 2 menu margaritas. Ordered my dish with no black beans and it came loaded with them. It was a seafood dish that included clams and mussels. We ate and take out here often because the food is good and reasonable priced. Last night we did take out again. Be ready, if you get anything saucy, the they do not close the containers securely. Half of each dish ends up in the bags. I am very cautious keeping the bags level in the car and transporting it, but somehow it always happens. If they secured each container it sure not have happened. My husband loves the Pollo con Crema, chicken and vegetables in a cream sauce. This time it only had two chucks of chicken, two pieces of carrot and two pieces of broccoli, the rest was cream. Usually it is loaded with chicken and veggies. I do not know if it was just a miss last night. We will give them another shot, but with all the New Mexican restaurants that recently opened, I am willing to try another. I had Chori Pollo and it was loaded with chicken and ground chorizo, however, this time the chorizo with heavily seasoned with clove that I cannot stand to the point it made me ill. This place has great Mexican food and plenty to choose from on the menu. Also has excellent wait staff and service! Even the manager was going around and filling diners' glasses. The atmosphere is a bit brighter than the usual Mexican restaurant and has an almost Italian look to it. When we received the bill, it was less than we had expected it to be. Dos Amigos is certainly in the top 2 Mexican places in Boone. Ok, there are only 2 in Boone. I've always had good meals here and the service is fine. It's a pretty big place and looks nice after the recent renovations. It has a nice little bar with a couple of tv's. Now that Boone can serve booze, it's probably a popular spot to get tipsy at night. The only thing that I really don't like is the prices have gone up a little and the portions have gotten a little smaller. Oh well, eat more chips I guess. read more

Great service ! Food came out quickly. Dos amigos has a huge menu with many different options , from customary Mexican dishes to some unique ones as well. They all looked very good. The lunch specials and the combinations are a good deal, but everything was priced fairly on the menu. The salsa was 'ok' but the guacamole dip was excellent . Also, I definitely recommend trying the choriqueso dip- a cheese dip with chorizo mixed in- super good! The sopes , an appetizer dish that I had as an entree was pretty good.- I had a steak one and a cheese one. Wings were spicy. read more

The prices are rather steep for a Mexican restaurant; you can drop $20 on a meal before you know it. Parking can be difficult because it's located in a shopping center. I was surprised when we walked in how big the place was and it was 90% full. The menu is vast, all the usual suspects for Mexican. I'm from Charlotte, and this weekend I chose to go with my family to this restaurant, the food is good, but the waiters service is terrible, if not very bad. We went Friday and the waitress who treated us was new, but her husband who is also a server was training (very good) we returned on Saturday, and the waitress who is familiar with the manager treated us very badly. We returned Sunday because the food is good, but after waiting for more than 15 minutes to be seated, even when there was no one waiting and many tables unoccupied, they ignored us and not even the manager's fat man who was watching everything, did not say nor did anything about it. read more

While visiting nearby Watauga Lake we dropped in for lunch. Felt welcomed and were seated right away. Received the complimentary chips and salsa and drink orders quickly. If I could give this scummy money hungry restaurant a -28 rating I would. This poor establishment that goes by "Dos Amigos" profits so much from college students. You would think this would form some sort of bound between students and the restaurant but sadly that is not true. Quite recently as in Aug 31 2021 me and some friends ordered food from Dos. I was on pickup duty so I was the one who had to go an pay/pickup the food. Upon arrival I was met with a $63 dollar bill which did not seem right but I had no clue what my friends had ordered so I asked for an itemized receipt and my request was quickly denied. Instead of staying there and arguing about why I just paid for it and went on with my day. When finally getting to my destination and opening the to go order I had realized that my food was left out and there was food there that I had paid for but not ordered. Amongst the madness and outrage we were in I sat down and began calculating everyone's orders and came to a subtotal that was a lot less than what I was charged. I then quickly realized that I was charged for food that I had not ordered nor received. So the first thing I thought to do was to call DOS and to asking for a refund for the food I had not received and the food I was charged for but did not order. They responded by saying "Bring all of the Food back and we will get you a refund". I then stated that I lived pretty far away and that there was a terrible storm hitting Boone at the moment and that I was not going to drive 20mins back to Dos today, not to mention the amount of trees down. They then said If I came back the next day I could get a fresh order of my food. I responded by saying its okay I would just like a refund. They tried denying me a refund though I was charged incorrectly. It then became an issue because the workers were passing me from person to person and then the manager finally got the back and still tried denying me my refund. So instead of continuing to play phone tag with them I let them know that I would be coming up there to speak with them and to collect my refund the next day. The next day comes and after my classes I stop by there and ask for a manager. Once the manager approaches I greeted him then tried speaking about the situation. Instead of being a manager he walks away from me while I was speaking. He then instructs and employ to grab us a menu and he begins saying that I will only be refunded for my order that I did not revive not the fully amount that was incorrectly charged. He then walks to the register and tells the cashier to give me an amount less then what I requested for the order and walks to the back. Soon after another employee approached me and asked what the problem was and then I filled him in. As I am speaking the cashier is speaking Spanish and is upset with me . Me being who I am I couldn't of cared less and continued my conversation with the one gentleman I was speaking to prior. As I am speaking the manager walks back up and speaks in Spanish to the worker I was conversing with as I am speaking and I look at him and said "Okay I will wait" Since I was so rudely cut off. I then began saying its either I receive the amount back that I was incorrectly charged for or I can call my credit card company and receive the full payment back which is not what I wanted to do because I would feel as though I was stealing from them in a way. They seemed to not care and their customer service was terrible minus the one guy I spoke to. So to speed this story up I ended up leaving and contacting my credit card company and getting it handled. I will no longer be eating/ordering food from Dos. I feel as though they tried stealing from me in a way once they declined my request for food that I did not order but paid for. PS. ALSO I really hope y'all read this post and take it to heart. I have always loved this restaurant but last time I went we had poor service!! We sat at our table for over 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us and I had to flag someone down and ask them if we had a server. Our food also came out nearly cold like it had been sitting out and I ordered guacamole that was $6 and queso and when I asked for more chips to take in my to go box with my guac they told me they would have to charge me for the chips that they gave me for free on the table. This is ridiculous being that they offer endless refills of free chips in the restaurant. These people are trying to get anything they can from your wallet. read more
