After a quick search for a Mexican restaurant in Atlanta with great birria tacos, strong cocktails, and an overall solid reputation, I landed on Dos Caminos. Taking over the former Oceanaire space is no small task, but I was excited to give it a try. I grabbed a seat at the bar, and Montez made the experience. I could not decide on a cocktail, so I told him to surprise me with something tequila based. He created a drink that was refreshing, well balanced, and exactly what I was hoping for. If you enjoy sitting at the bar, I highly recommend asking for him. I ordered the birria tacos, which came with queso, beans and rice, plus complimentary chips and salsa. For just $19, I was pleasantly surprised by both the quality and the portion. The plate included four generously filled tacos that were seasoned very well, and the consommé was rich and flavorful, making every bite even better. Between the excellent food, creative cocktails, and outstanding service, this was an easy choice for me. I will definitely be back, especially if Montez is behind the bar. read more

So close to excellent! First, they have listened to the criticism and ARE VALIDATING PARKING in the 1100 parking garage, which is very convenient to the restaurant. The staff are friendly and accommodating with very good service. The atmosphere is very fun and the decor is well done and fits the higher standard they are setting. We were given a choice of inside or outside (on the street side patio). We chose inside and were initially placed right next to the booming speakers. That was not going to fly so we were quickly moved to a better spot. That seems like an ongoing problem though. Most people want to be able to converse and next to or near speakers that loud is never going to work. Now to the food. It was mostly very good. Prices are higher than most Mexican restaurants but not over the top. Chips and salsa were complimentary (yes!). We missed happy hour and so did not try the drinks. My meal was the Baja Pescado tacos w three blackened fish and rice with black beans. Mostly very good , the one problem, which I did not mention to our servers, was that the top parts of 2 of the tortillas for the tacos were unbelievably tough. As in so tough, I could not chew it. I have no idea what would cause that, whether the tortillas were bad from the beginning or had been overcooked/dryed out somehow. Anyway, I was able to work around it just by eating the rest of the tortilla and the contents, which were very good. But this is something they definitely need to address. I saw someone else mentioned the same thing in another review. To sum up, we would definitely go back and next time I hope to be able to give them a five star review, with a few small improvements. What a surprise to see Dos Caminos here in ATL! I took customers here when it was the Oceannaire Seafood Room- but I used to go to Dos Caminos all the time when visiting family in Manhattan. Parking across the street is useful but a little pricey. Two options- 12 or 24 hours, so about $21 for 12 hours. Ease and convenience to just walk across the street. Got a chance to sit outside on the patio, they have the windows up unless there's a need to hold them halfway. Awesome views, and beautiful weather last night. The host was great, didn't catch his name but he provided me with the option to sit outside or in, and gave me a drink menu to choose something to drink at the bar before my friend arrived. I had a "La Noche" while waiting for my friend, and it was tasty! Chose a Tajin rim over black salt and I wasn't mad. Could've had many more if I wasn't driving. George was our server, he was training Lailah last night so we had extra special service and attention. First and foremost- excellent attention to detail, kindness, friendly attitude, helpful with menu questions. Service would rate 10/10 every time. We had a couple of the classic dos Caminos margs, ordered some chips and salsa, and I got the beef enchiladas and my friend got the combo steak and shrimp fajitas. Dos Caminos always delivers. The food was piping hot, my plate was so hot the bottoms of my enchiladas caramelized the sauce, cheese, and tortilla into a nice crunchy gooey mess. (In the best possible way). If I didn't have to drive home, I'd have stayed and had more margaritas but I behaved. Didn't know this was part of the LSC group! Got to use a coupon for the meal, and rack up points for the next time I patronize a place in the group. Huge space, decor was beautiful, and the bathrooms were super clean (with the REALLY GOOD hand towels to dry your hands). Loved catching up with my friend and the fact that I circled it back with Dos Caminos made it even more special. Great service by Lailah and George, the Manager wished us a goodnight on the way out. Misleading menu. The manager was not helpful in resolving the issue. Food tasted as if salt was the only seasoning they had in the kitchen. The cheese dip tasted store bought and microwaved. The guacamole was bland. Overpriced, you're better off going to chipotle down the road. Save your money and don't come here. I honestly don't know how they have a 4.5 rating on google. read more

From the Service to the great location in downtown right in the heart of midtown everything at this restaurant was a 10 out of 10 they have done a great job with decorations the restaurant and it's a huge space that gives you the option to sit indoors or enjoy their covered patio, which gives you a glimpse of city life. Immediately upon sitting down, you are served a fresh basket of chips and salsa, which were quite delicious because I was very hungry. The tacos were yummy. The short rib was cooked to perfection. I have to come back and try other items from the menu because everything was great. Please make sure you ask for jalapeños. They were very fresh and tasty as well. Service was slow. Waiter disappeared a few times. I don't understand why we have to go looking for the waiter so we can pay our check. Really a poor experience overall on my second and likely last visit. It's a shame. Let me start by saying there were no cocktails so maybe we missed what this place is beloved for. Atmosphere is a plus, festive and pretty, loud but not obnoxious. Our server was also working the bar but she was friendly and got the job done despite obviously having a lot of multi tasking to do. I hated the Mexican street corn- one bite and my taste buds recoiled although my eyes sent the signal as soon as the dish arrived. Ewww...Ummm what? Since when does elote look like canned corn swimming in red sauce? At places like this I try to keep it simple and I thought we did by getting a salad and chicken tacos. The salad had cold chicken which I didn't hate although hubby did but cold chorizo???! For starters he ordered the salad without chorizo period and when he asked me to taste something Because he didn't know what it was? I knew we were in trouble. Second eww of the night. Cold fatty congealed ground chorizo is not a winner. Yuck. The chicken tacos were not good. I ate only 1 of the 3 and made it palatable by packing it with pieces of lettuce from his salad and drizzling a bit of the cilantro vinaigrette on top. The salad dressing was my favorite part of the entire meal. That statement says a LOT about the food at a Mexican restaurant. Before the waitress came and got the salad he had already pushed it to the side and sadly ended up just eating the side of refried beans as his dinner. Booooooo. I'm very happy that I opted not to get anything expensive bc I would have been pissed to get stuck with a big bill for what turned out to be a very disappointing meal. Lighting is good. If the drinks are good I guess wouldn't rule it out for a drinks only event but since I just had water I have to keep this off the list unless I want to bring someone I don't like but still want to look cute in the beautiful lighting. Nice sized restaurant. Appreciate the parking deck attached to the building. They don't validate though. We came in on a Saturday night. No reservations and seated quickly. There was a good amount of people inside. We ordered a couple of drinks and had chips, salsa and queso to start. We went during opening week for this restaurant so I was expecting some hiccups with service or food, but they seemed very well prepared for everything. The food was all delicious. The service was a bit slow but not bad given their newness. I tried their Cadillac margarita on tap and it was just ok but their frozen margarita tower was delicious and super fun for a group. I also really enjoyed all of the food. Their queso is excellent and feels like real homemade queso rather than some of the jar ones other restaurants put out. The beans and Spanish rice were also elevated version of the usual Tex mex in the area. The prices are high for Tex mex but the vibes in the restaurant make up for it. They did really well the decorations and I could come here for a lot of different types of gatherings. If they keep the food quality up, I think it will be worth the prices. Service was really great and patio was perfect. The restaurant fell short on the beef enchilada. I couldn't cut it with a knife bc it was overcooked. The other drawback was no refills on soda. This is Atlanta. The margaritas were good and the churros were some of the best in the City... making up for the bad entree and having to order another small cute glass Coke for over 5 bucks, which is kinda important for me when I'm eating Mexican. Checked out the new Dos Caminos in Midtown for food and drinks. Drinks were cool, and the staff was hustling hard; even if things felt a little scrambled on a very busy night. They're clearly still finding their groove. Food-wise, everything we ordered (ceviche, Birria tacos, Picadillo burrito) was decent but nothing memorable. For the elevated prices, I was hoping for a little more "wow." Especially since Midtown has plenty of strong Mexican options already (Zocalo, Rreal Tacos, Alta Toro, etc.) Midtown is basically a taco Thunderdome at this point. Also, no parking validation at all for the attached lot (certainly a miss for this location). I'm rooting for them. I hope they iron things out and stick around, because competition in this area is no joke. But based on my first visit... I've got some early doubts. read more

The ambience is very nice and they had plenty of servers. When it comes to the food there's some work that needs to be done. The nachos were very dry, there was no queso cheese on it. But instead it was shredded cheese melted on each chip. The steak tacos were okay, only issue was it was cold. I enjoy the patio. After two visits the food is no more than ok. The queso dip taste and has the consistency of corn starch. The 'beef' quesadillas had plenty of chewy beef fat to share. The bowl of beans arrived with no spoon and the empty plates stayed too long at what is supposed to be a high service restaurant. But the telltale sign is charging for refills on tea. So the restaurant is huge and pretty, and I'm sure the vibe is great later at night, but the bill was $170!!!! For what you ask - 2 margaritas (very light on the alcohol), nachos, fajitas, steak asada and churros. There were 3 of us and we didn't even have 3 entrees. And the portions were so small! This is the problem with Atlanta, people think that paying a lot for food makes them fancy or rich and allows them to look good to others, but truly wealthy people value quality.
