we had the tastiest dinner here omg! also there were multiple TVs so those interested at the table could watch the Masters from any spot at the table first of all, everything in here is totally gluten free. pork tamale and chicken enmoladas were our favorites WOWWW! guac was chunky and freshly made. so much flavor in all the dishes. churros came with spicy chocolate whipped cream to dip them in, absolutely lovely service was fast and friendly. place was clean and after a long walk the AC inside was very welcomed. only thing was it was a bit loud and they could probably use some rugs inside to dampen the sound we will definitely returning again and again!!! read more

As a person whose partner requires gluten-free food, I *love* Rosa because everything is safe for her. We don't need to ask about different dishes; we don't need to ask for a gluten-free menu; we don't need to look for some tiny tiny symbol that says something is gluten-free. However, all that is icing on the cake! Rosa is a really nice neighborhood restaurant. There's always a variety of people there; it is lively but generally not too too loud; and the food is absolutely delicious. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and prices are reasonable. And they have really really excellent corn chips and salsa. read more

When I went here, I had no idea that it was a gluten-free restaurant, and the food is so delicious that it doesn't matter! I ordered the veggie burrito and it was outstanding. I was very impressed by the mixture of flavors and their gluten-free tortilla is actually very good with a burrito. It is very filling and it comes with a delicious salsa and sour cream. The ambience is nice as they have a large outdoor patio, and the service is very prompt. There's also a scan to order and pay option which I appreciate and it makes it easy for a big group. We came to Rosa on Memorial Day for a late lunch because of a lot of places were closed and I am so glad we came here but unfortunately one guy was waiting on the whole restaurant so it did end up being quite a long lunch.. but nevertheless we felt bad for him and honestly it was fine and ended up being totally worth it! Our waiter was super generous and kept the chips coming and the queso was great! The guac was a little too chunky for my liking but I still enjoyed it. We also got a marg pitcher to share and they did not skimp on the tequila For my main, I opted for the carne asada quesadilla and it was great! A great portion size and I thought it was a good price as well. The meat was well seasoned and tender and I really enjoyed it. Overall I really liked this place and enjoyed sitting on the patio. Been wanting to try this place even with the mixed reviews. We chose to sit inside since it was so hot outside. First I have to say I love that you get 3 salsas to start with. I really enjoyed two out of three of them. The chips were thicker than most places but really good. I ordered the Taco and Enchilada combo. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it. The Carne Asada taco was very tender and good but the chicken enchilada sauce reminded me of Spaghettio's sauce. The beans were ok and the rice was mushy. We recently had the fine folks at Rosa cater a birthday party for 50 guests and to say that did a PHENOMENAL job, would be an understatement. The food was absolutely delicious and our guests raved about it, even a couple of days *after* the party! The Chef also made a special request item for us (stuffed Poblano peppers), something that's not on their regular menu and they were outstanding. We went to celebrate with family and were excited to try out Rosa. The restaurant was fairly busy and the patio was full. We ate inside, which was well decorated but a bit loud due to hard surfaces. They could probably use some rugs or wall hangings to reduce sound reflection. Service was a little bit slow due to the push but our waiter was communicative and apologized for delays in gettin our drinks and food. Everyone in our party liked their food and we especially enjoyed the totopos. Really good addition to the neighborhood. Would absolutely recommend and go back. read more

Vibes are low. Prices are high. Food is bad. The only saving grace here is the service - they were highly attentive and super nice. I really wanted to like this place. But - the prices are almost double what you'd pay at a traditional Mexican restaurant - and frankly - everything was gross. Even the salsa was gross. It feels like a sad dive bar inside (I love dive bars, just not sad dive bars). The enchiladas were drowned in some vinegar based soup-y stuff. The queso was just weird - like the stuff you might buy from Kroger in a moment of desperation and impulse. Anyway, we won't be back unfortunately. Go to like...any other Mexican joint and save a bunch of money and have a much better time (and culinary experience). read more

Really pleased with Rosa!! Restaurant was kept clean. Chips salted perfectly throughout- fresh and not greasy. 3 types of salsa and had a hard time picking a favorite. Queso was light and tasty. Phone didn't eat first for my chicken quesadilla but it was great! Rice has a nice smoky flavor. Next time we go I'll get the fajitas because they kept smelling so good!!! Staff is quick and helpful. This place is a dream come true for those with celiac or a gluten allergy. The burrito is amazing I don't know what tortilla they use but it's great. Even if you aren't gluten free, it's a pretty solid Mexican option! My only comment would be please add more vegetarian items on the menu :) also the desserts are wonderful too! read more

Yummy. Terrific family friendly place. Their chips and salsa rule!! Best in town. Oh and cheese sauce and quacamole too. Had mole chicken thing which was perfection. And shrimp tacos, carne tacos, etc. All good. Insanely nice service especially dealing with kids. My 5yr old loves the grilled shrimp on kids menu. And wife loves rice bowl with meat. As a Texan transplant living in VA Highlands, I have been patiently waiting for a real deal Tex-Mex spot for years. Rosa answered my prayers. Margaritas on tap, sizzling fajitas, and frijoles charros (finally!), it's all I could have ever asked for. Make sure to ask for extra salsa aguacate- a rarity around these parts- they do a great version that will get the job done. Plus some of the friendliest bartenders in town. The menu has recently been revamped and is much smaller than it used to be. The trio of salsas is now a single, rather tasteless, odd looking one. The tacos are tiny and the fish taco contained a microscopic quantity of grouper. We didn't have any alcoholic drinks (in fact, the server never asked us if we wanted drinks other than water. Seemed strange since alcohol is where restaurants make money.) Other than that the service was fine. Since this restaurant is fairly new, it seems they are still trying to find their footing. If the manager is reading this, here are some suggestions for improvement: 1. Put some signage on the street. People driving down No. Highland have no idea you exist. 2. The ambience is bland and doesnt say "Mexican." Maybe put some more personality into the decor? 3. Increase portion sizes even if it means adding a few dollars to the price. 4. Everything, including the salsa, was very bland tasting. Try adding a bit more spices. I hope Rosa succeeds as VA HI needs a good Mexican place. Unfortunately, right now, this isn't it. read more

The service has improved since opening, but the food is so bland. There is no seasoning. I will not be returning until there are new recipes.
