We went to this other French-American restaurant (Isa's Bistro), and they didn't have Creme Brulee...so, we ended up here afterward to order JUST the Creme Brulee. First of all, the place was very small, with this caved-in feel...a very grungy, dive-like ambiance. I felt quite claustrophic. Also, they didn't have the A/C on, so it was quite humid in there. Sadly, things didn't get any better. One of the best thing about the brulee is the glazed crust...and well, their version was just slack, in that only about a third of the top was glazed! HUH?!? Plus, they used this thin slab of Orange instead of the usual Blueberries or Strawberries...making the dessert have this Yellow on Yellow type presentation. Not appealing at all...at least to me. Initially, I thought we'd wait...and get our waitress-bartender to send it back to the kitchen to get it glazed fully. However, we just couldn't get her attention...so we just ended up eating it. I did, however, decide to bring up this issue...after getting the hostess to literally grab our server! I just felt that something this slack should be pointed out. Since we did eat some of it, I didn't ask for a redo or anything like that...but simply telling her that I wanted my feedback to go to the kitchen and the manager. In any case, she didn't bill us for the dessert. I thought that was the right call. From the grungy ambiance (with no A/C), to their botched dessert, I just can't say this was a worthy experience in the least. I totally regretted not going to Crave dessert bar instead. Bouchon French Bistro is a solid spot for French food in the Asheville area. If you're looking for some classic, French bistro fare then Bouchon likely has it. I've never had a bad meal here. In my most recent visit to Bouchon, we had a reservation for the three of us on a Sunday evening for dinner. In fact, I recommend making a reservation if you're planning to dine here as Bouchon gets busy. Even for a Sunday, nearly every table was taken. The place is dark and romantic, but bustling and lively. As mentioned previously, Bouchon has classic, French plates that are timeless. From French onion soup to start with, to steak frites for your main, and profiteroles for dessert, there's something you're likely familiar with if you've had French food before. Plus, the large wine menu, including Bordeaux style reds are something to rave about. I ordered the Canard a L'Orange Chocolate for my entrée and we wanted to start with the escargots, but it never came. We had to remind our server that we ordered escargots, which we later received and was taken off the bill. That was nice. I did enjoy my canard/duck entrée, which was prepared with a rub from cocoa nibs and an orange glaze with broccolini and potato au gratin on the side. The duck was also a good portion, as it was half the size and cooked perfectly. Overall, if you like French food then Bouchon has some traditional dishes that you'll enjoy. Service was a little spotty, but not terrible. It's not my first choice for dining out in Asheville where the competition is fierce, but if I'm visiting on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, then you best believe I'm down for the AYCE moules frites, which yes, I've totally done and definitely got my money's worth. read more

The former French comfort food, full dining restaurant Bouchon has reopened as Creperie Bouchon. Decor is the same (French cafe style), but the menu and hours have completely changed. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. It's a cozy little cafe but has several tables including 2-3 outside tables tucked away adjacent to the front door (opening onto Lexington). The restaurant is now a creperie/cafe serving crepes (both savory and dessert), light bites, sandwiches, soup and salads. Open for lunch thru early dinner hour. The bar (beer, wine and cocktails) remains. Their sister restaurant, Rendezvous in East Asheville, is open for dinner serving a full French county entree menu. I'm super happy to see this change. We go for a full French country dinner maybe once a year, but we'll go here for French cafe food much more often. We had a Toulouse duck confit crepe. The crepe itself was very tasty -- traditional French street style. The duck confit inside was also very good and was accompanied by some mushrooms, goat cheese and caramelized onions. Not a huge amount of filing, but it fit the crepe and was a good portion given it was served with a side roquette salad. Even the salad was excellent, with a few wonderful grapes, shaved fennel and a great vinaigrette dressing. We also had a Croque Bouchon, which is turkey with brie and bechamel on local sourdough. The bread was brushed with butter and dijon and grilled to get an absolutely perfect "croque" brown crunchy outside. There were a few tart green apple slices pushed into the bread on the outside and so also browned a bit. Nice touch. This was the best croque sandwich I've ever had! The sandwich came with a side of Bouchon's famous frites, often named the best in Asheville. They are still very, very good. Thin cut (French style) fries with great herb seasoning and well-prepared. They are served with a red pepper mayo aioli that is excellent. We had a Kronenbourg 1664 Lager and a Chai spice hard cider from local cidery, Noble. Reasonably priced. We will definitely be coming to this place periodically for lunch or an early light dinner. read more

The cheeseboard was okay. Surprised to find a soft cheese (burrata) on the board. However, everything was local and that was a win! I had the special of night which was braised short ribs over risotto and aspargus. The meat was very tender and tasty but the risotto was a bit under cooked and the sauce was very salty. Cozy cafe that instantly transports you to the countryside of France. Bouchon is a long time staple in Aville and there are so many reasons why it's a locals favorite. From their steak au poivre which is perfectly cooked with a delicious cognac sauce to the duck a l'orange everything is deliciously rich. Their escargot is the best I've ever had (and I've been to France). It comes with buttery puff pastry, a scorching hot herb butter, and delicious baguette so you can soak up alllllll of that butter. Truly amazing. On Thursdays they offer their steak tartare and once it sells out, it's gone. It's perfectly tender and flavored. Definitely try and go on a Thursday just to get this! Started going to Bouchon from a recommendation by a local in 2020. Go every year on trips to Asheville.. always a terrific experience; service, food, atmosphere. However; on a recent visit in September 2024; this was not the case. Notice ced changes in some of the house red wines, not great. Also, sitting upstairs made for extended delay in food delivery and the temperature of it. I've had the pleasure of dining Al fresco on a beautiful day in May with my date. We enjoying the nearby shops and happen to walk by their open door and the scent was to hard to refuse. We took a look at their menu and saw a good variety of meals so we decided to stay. We asked for outdoor seating and we're immediately seated in one of their three side alley tables. Our server was very accommodating and took our order for drinks and appetizer which we decided on the wine and bread and garlic. We enjoyed our appetizer while watching the Asheville tourists walking bye. We decided on a special which was their gnocchi, shrimp with marinara. We also ordered the portobello and onions with melted brie over a pastry. They were both delicious but we still needed to take some to go afterwards. It was a good idea that I brought a cooler with some ice packs. We opted to skip dessert and take a walk nearby for another pastry. I had the opportunity to dine at Bouchon again while in Asheville! Masks were required to enter the restaurant and check in was at the stand outside the restaurant. I liked that they were taking more precautions to keep customers and the staff safer. They still offer reservations so that is a huge plus. Lily was my waitress and remembered me from previous visits. I went with the steak frites again as I do enjoy that meal. I am always tempted to try something else but come back to what I know I will enjoy. The steak quality is very good and cooked to order. Then who can resist the frites. I have the banana bouree for dessert. It was a magical combination of flavors with the banana; caramel and coconut. I know where I will be having dinner again in a few months. I have had far better Steak Au Poivre, and my wife's beef Burgundy did not look appetizing served in a metal mixing bowl and was practically swimming in sauce like a soup. I love French food and this place did not disappoint. It was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was wonderful. My husband and I were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. The food we had was so good I'm pretty sure this was the best meal I have ever had in my life and I have been to Paris . The way the flavors of the Boeuf Bourguignon just melted together with the red wine and all the veggies. That was the most tender beef I think I have ever tasted. It was like butter . It was just a delight for the taste buds. White staff was wonderful. They took care of everything we needed. Make sure we had plenty of drinks kept coming back and checking on us. I'm already missing Bouchon's food so much and will definitely come back here, if I return to Asheville! My boyfriend and I dined in the second floor outdoor area. It was very cozy with the space heater and felt safe with the open door! The ambiance was also super cute and romantic! Perfect for a date night! We ordered so much food and shared everything! We started with the beet salad. The golden beets, goat cheese, and apples were an amazing combo! It was so good that we made a salad with those ingredients the next day at home. Next up were the mussels (half order). We got the Le Bleu because we love blue cheese and bacon. It did not disappoint! The mussels were perfectly cooked and we kept soaking our bread in the sauce. Probably would have drank the sauce too, if the waitress hadn't told us it had a lot of butter! We also ordered the escargot. These were the best escargot that I've had! The herby butter sauce, well cooked escargot, and crispy puff pastry on top were *chefs kiss*. I would definitely order this, even if you've never had escargot before. It's delicious and the perfect way to try it for the first time! For our entree, we shared the steak au poivre. The steak was a little salty. But the peppery crust and the decadent sauce were PERFECT! It came with a side of fries, which were perfectly crispy and well seasoned. They were perfect for soaking up the extra sauce! And yes, we saved room for dessert! We got the creme brûlée and it was the perfect ending to the meal. I always wish my creme brûlée had more berries on top, but besides that, the caramelized sugar on top was perfect with the rich cream filling!! Absolutely amazing! My spouse ordered the steak frites bouchon and suffered the same shoe leather indignity. We left the majority of our portions on our plates. In all fairness, the pomme frites were decent. Rather than tempt fate, we did not order any dessert and left, wondering why even the most modest bistro in France would offer selections heads and shoulders above Bouchon French bistro in Asheville. What a hidden gem. This unassuming little space provides some of the most amazing food! We were in town for an event and lucked into a reservation same day. There is street parking, which is free after 6 and on weekends. They are using very strict co vid precautions, so we waited outside for the hostess to greet us. We were seated in the small patio area which had such a cozy feel and they have fans and heaters for evenings when the weather is less than perfect. Almost everything on the menu is either gluten free or can be made that way (except the cordon bleu). I started with a daily special salad which had heirloom tomato with goat cheese and a balsamic reduction, one of THE most delicious things I have eaten! Others had the house salad. We were so looking forward to dining at Bouchons for our anniversary dinner. We were spending a long weekend in Asheville, our first time here, and this dinner was supposed to be one of the highlights. It was recommended by some friends who lived here. The place was easy enough to find and we had reservations for upstairs. We were seated quickly and greeted by our server almost immediately. (We were never told her name and we didn't ask). We order a cheese charcuterie board for an appetizer. My wife ordered a Thyme Herb Chicken dish served with roasted rainbow carrots and rice. I ordered the duck dish served with potatoes au gratin and broccolini. The server pointed out what the menu said which was the potion is a half duck. I told her "perfect!" The cheese board was good, nothing amazing, but I was counting on the duck to blow me away. Our dinners arrived. My wife's chicken dinner was (to be nice), blah. Nothing was seasoned and carrots for not fully cooked. My half duck was not the left side or the right side, but the bottom side; two thighs and two legs. It was cooked well done and the flavor was fine. The broccolini was cold, but the unanticipated star of the show was the potatoes. They were excellent. I didn't say anything because this was supposed to be a wonderful anniversary dinner and I didn't want to cause any kind of scene. I also considered that if I was served a half duck, a bottom half of a duck, the cooks clearly wouldn't understand how to fix any of our dinners. Needless to say, we won't be back. I would, in reality rate this a 3.5 star rating. Our table was in the back of the restaurant. A great, more private spot. A lovely space. (There is no outdoor seating). We were a party of 6. We were seated minutes after our 7:00 reservation. Three of us had the duck (excellent), two had chicken cordon bleu and the last in our party had the beef stew. Two had the French onion soup & we shared the pate plate - both excellent. The 3.5 rating comes because: the stew was served 5+ minutes after the other meals, plates were not warmed and it was stifling hot in the restaurant. We inquired "if it was always that hot in the restaurant" and were given as dismissive answer. Not sure I would return. read more
