Amazing food. Just wow. We hadn't tried Dos Gatos because they were only open for dinner but not long ago they opened for lunch on Mondays. This is pretty much tacos only as mains but they are hearty portions. Complex flavors, fresh ingredients- we had the chicken and pork tacos which were delicious. The guac and chips were perfectly seasoned with lime and garlic. Love, love, love. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small place with mostly bar seating or lounge/couch seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was really friendly.

Whoa!!! The words uttered after we all took our first bite. The tacos were amazing! So much so my husband is already doing the math of when we can visit again during our vacation in Belfast. They also have a decent selection of tequila. The restaurant itself has such an interesting vibe. You walk down a set of stairs to a dark space - very jazz club like. There are a couple of tables, a bar, then a couple interesting seating areas. We were sat in what felt like a VIP lounge. We were greeted with a couch and 2 chairs. There was a bunch of side tables for placing food and drinks. I cannot say enough about the tacos. We all finished our meals. The chips and salsa are pretty good too.

The Carnita taco was Mexico meet micro green infused, just delicious! The Mezcal Last Word was a Mexican French fusion and delightful! I'm well versed in Mezcal mixology and I really liked it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service and the vibe was just awesome, thank you Crystal for all the suggestions and wonderful experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Finally was able to check this spot out after seeing their pre-open and open stages on social media. After going down the stairs you enter into the dark lit restaurant that has an inviting bar with an overall vintage and unique vibe that makes you think of a speakeasy. With some of the seats being couches and cozy comfy chairs. Good luck finding anywhere else in Belfast with this much charm and personality. Such a standout spot you will not forget after you visit. We thankfully beat the rush showing up early and snagged two bar seats. The bartenders and other staff were so friendly and attentive as well as food came out in a quick manner even with them being busy. Gladly tried out their normal margarita and was impressed and even more so look forward to trying more cocktails. If you love tequila this is the cocktail spot for you and let me tell you about the tacos....! Firstly I chose the Tamarind Duck and my fiancée chose the Carnitas and wow both would be immediate order again! Not living close by and being hungry we decided to get the Gringo Tacos and split the three and while I preferred the other tacos more I was still impressed and would enjoy them again. Homemade tortillas and tasty fillings made me looking forward to every next bite! Easily some of the best tacos I can recall having and would make future trips back up to Belfast with the only intention of coming here! Add this to your list of must-try.

Who'da believed we found the BEST Mexican food in Belfast, Maine??!!! It's definitely not your father's neighborhood greasy Mexican place, but instead Dos Gatos is a great and maybe even unique experience. We were lucky to arrive a little early and score a couple seats at the bar, where we were served by Robert - and it's just a treat to watch a true professional bartender working his magic behind the bar. They have a great selection of spirits, especially tequilas, and they know how to make great drinks. We had (me) a classic lime margarita (and for a backer a pint of draft Salud from Marshall's Wharf); and wife had the signature spicy margarita. Both drinks were a hit. By the way, it's a cool sign when the menu has one page for food and three pages for drinks . My kind of place. For food we ordered queso to accompany the house tortilla chips. Their chips are served hot and salty (awesome!). Normally I don't love queso because it usually tastes like velveeta, but not the case here. Their queso was good enough to eat with a spoon!!! Then for the main course arrived - I had the ground beef tacos and Boss had the beet tacos. Yes, you heard me - BEET tacis. I felt this was a bold and risky move on her part, but it paid off - they turned out superb. Overall the food was delish. Not the cheapest taco place around, but a great experience and we'll definitely be back!!

This place is an absolute gem & was very unexpected! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff are incredibly fun and welcoming, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere from the moment you walk in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The guac & chips are simple, fresh & delicious. The carnitas tacos are simply unbelievable--full of rich, savory flavor that keeps you coming back for more. The quesadilla is perfectly cheesy and satisfying, with fresh salsa. The bartender knew I loved hot sauce & let me try their homemade sauces - perfection! Their mocktails are creative and refreshing, and the beer selection is stellar, too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All of this comes together in a cool, hip restaurant setting that's perfect for a night out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food, drinks, and vibes! We were so excited about our food, we forgot to take pics, but here are our drinks.

Loved the outdoor seating area and bar - owners Jesse and Adam were great hosts!

Dos Gatos is a great addition to downtown Belfast. Our group enjoyed a tasty meal served by owner Jesse. The service was friendly and unpretentious but the food was delicious. I shared the mushroom tacos and the beet tacos with my companions. Sounds unusual but they were both really great. Companions also enjoyed the chicken tacos and the duck tacos. We loved the outdoor seating area. Can't wait to return.

Margaritas, tacos with perfectly charred tortillas.

Hey Sailor in Searsport, Maine, delivers something surprisingly rare along this stretch of coast:…read morebold, confident flavor that actually lands. I'm from New Orleans, where food doesn't whisper--it speaks up. After spending a full month traveling the Maine coast from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, I found plenty of fresh seafood and scenic charm, but very few dishes that truly woke up my palate. Then I walked into Hey Sailor. This place doesn't hold back. The flavors are layered, intentional, and memorable--each bite feels thoughtfully built rather than simply assembled. There's a balance here between creativity and comfort, with dishes that feel both elevated and satisfying. It's the kind of food that makes you pause mid-conversation because your attention suddenly shifts to what's happening on the plate. In a region where subtlety often takes the lead, Hey Sailor confidently turns up the volume without losing finesse. It's not just good for Maine--it's good, period. If you're someone who craves food with depth, personality, and a little punch, this is a stop worth making. For me, it stood out as one of only two places on this entire coastal stretch that truly delivered that kind of experience.

Never written an online review in my life. traveling. "hey…read moresailor" had a funky name and advertised good tacos. give it a shot, right? $8 per taco-which seemed like a lot- but expecting a big crunch very tasty taco. Nope. tiny. think smallest grocery store street taco wraps. they doubled them up presumably to add weight to it and to keep it from falling apart but they did anyway. which was a minor miracle because there was barely anything in it. said it would be ready in an hour. took hour and 15 min. worst of all, they left out the sauces which presumably would give these tiny things some personality. got house made taco chips to go with it, they tasted like they had been sitting around a lot longer than an hour. terrible salsa. like diced tomatoes and water. overall, fifty bucks (sixty after tip) for 4 little soft tacos and some nasty chips. I get it. it's a tough business and hard to get good help. I had my own small restaurant for 40 years. but I was always there making sure everything was as good as possible. and it was. get it together guys. put some effort into it and don't disappoint people like us traveling who don't want fried seafood or pizza, for Christ's sake.
