This was our first dinner on this trip and we loved the vibe of this little town, the restaurant has a great waterfront view with outdoor dining when the weather is good. We started with one of the daily specials Cajun haddock bites, they were good but I think they would have been better without the Cajun seasoning which was a dry addition after it was cooked. We ordered lobster rolls for dinner and it was delicious, tender, flavorful meat with just the right amount of mayonnaise sauce. The fries were also good. The service was awful!! Walked in and was greeted by a young woman who had the worst attitude. Asked about sitting outside and said there was no seats. We asked how long the wait was and she said she had no idea perhaps 10 minutes or an hour. She had no intentions of finding out. Such a turn off. We decided to turn around and go somewhere else. Great service! We went in for April birthdays lunch--we're never able to finish a full meal, so we split the large clam dinner. Our server (Laura M) never missed a beat with our request to split the meal. The extra plates came automatically and with a smile. We had onion rings for appetizer. They were outstanding: lightly fried, wonderfully crunchy, and hot! The clams were likely the best I've ever had: wonderful sweet whole belly clams fried in clean oil in light batter. The Meh: *Brown Bread Pudding was good but we felt like it was missing that strong quinquintessential brown bread molasses flavor. A great lunch experience today at Nautilus Seafood & Grill in Belfast, ME. My wife ordered the Lazy Lobster dish, I went with a Haddock Reuben sandwich. We shared a Fresh Baked Cornbread appetizer to start off. Everything "Hit the Spot". My wife loved her lobster, was tender and the perfect portion size. She thought my Haddock Reuben was an odd combination, but trust me, it was one tasty sandwich. The Russian dressing complemented the fish well. I really loved my lunch at Nautilus. I had the baked stuffed haddock. The haddock was seasoned nicely and the stuffing was fantastic. I upgraded one of my sides to onion rings. They were some of the best onion rings I have ever had. Don't even think about not getting the onion rings! The vegetable of the day was grilled corn on the cob. We came here at the suggestion of the lady at the front desk of The Belfast Inn. They seemed to be on limited staff & therefore super busy. We wanted to sit at the bar, which is small, but it was full. There was one stool but the folks sitting there went out of their way to make room for us & give us another stool! So nice, wow!!! We sooooo appreciated meeting such genuinely kind people that we bought them a round! Cheers :) The bartender, Kelly??? I think, was great. We got some wine, clam chowdah lol & steamed mussels in a garlic white wine broth! All of it was excellent & delicious. For someone who isn't a seafood expert and is expecting to be blown away by the seafood here, curb your expectations. I felt overall it was a slightly higher than average restaurant (3.5*). The menu was fun and they seemed to have quite a selection of interesting items that I wouldn't mind trying. I felt the service, menu options, and the very impressed friends who love seafood who joined me for the meal is what kicked this rating up to 4*. I was nervous the service would be slow after reading some of the other reviews but the service was great. We arrived and were told we'd have a 15 min wait and that was accurate. Our cornbread took a while to come out but our server was communicative with us about that and our entrees came out at the perfect amount of time. What we got: Cornbread (appetizer) with honey butter - 5* this was fantastic cornbread. It was fluffy but with substance and just plain delicious. I wish the honey butter had a little more honey but it paired well with the cornbread. It comes out in three pieces and I would've been fine splitting in three ways. We ended up ordering two to split between the four of us. Stuffed haddock - 3* I wasn't as impressed with this is as I thought I'd be but my partner who ordered it said it was 5*. Brussel sprouts salad with scallops - 4* adding the scallops on was pricey and I think chicken would've been really good as well. The brussel sprouts were fantastic and I thought the dressing was quite refreshing. I did end up using my friend's lemon to add a bit more flavor to the salad which enhanced it nicely. I am not a seafood expert so while I enjoyed the scallops I didn't feel like they were mind blowingly amazing. I've had frozen scallops that were just as good, but this sentiment is probably blasphemous to seafood lovers. This was the worst seafood meal we've ever had. Haddock was tough. Salmon was under cooked. The best thing sadly was the side dinner salad.

It was an acceptable restaurant. If you are on the area and need something to eat it was ok. The service was good. Friendly people and a nice view if you can get a spot on the outside but the food was lack luster and pricey for what you get. I would not go back unless it was for the view and service. read more

My wife and I were on a week long road trip along the coast of Maine and we checked into our hotel and did a Yelp search places to get dinner. Nautilus had good reviews and it had outside seating on the water. SOLD! It was about a 5 minute drive from our hotel. We were seated outside and I ordered an IPA to start off. The view of the water was very serene and I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and a side Caesar salad. It came out pretty quickly and it looked wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised by many aspects of this restaurant. For appetizers we had the boneless wings and shrimp cocktail. Hubby really liked the wings-shrimp cocktail was average of what I would expect. For entrees hubby had the Cobb salad which was fine and even though I typically don't order sandwiches something about the chicken and Brie sandwich appealed to me so I tried that. It was actually quite fantastic...a very different combo of flavors but it really did work and tasted great and very fresh. service was very good ( very few people there for lunch at 11:45) menu had options for smaller portions which was veery good to see. as with many places, too many FF with the sandwich. .. had a haddock rueben. bread nicely toasted/grilled, Morses Sauerkraut was a bit too wet and made for careful eating. the fish was cooked perfectly , but was more of a ball in the middle of the sandwich. so just technical things... except when I went looking for the cheese component. it seemed the slice was microplane or something.. could not coax the tissue of cheese from the bread. .. it had melted it's entire 1.64th thickness into the bread.. and as such there was no flavor addition to the sandwich. everything else was right on. A companion had the BangBang shrimp, although the sauce had BANG at all , I do not recall ever having a more perfectly cooked serving of fried shrimp (31-40s I think) no batter corn starch maybe. but just perfect. Came in to this place a couple times for happy hour. The specials were great on beer, a few mixed drinks and some appetizers. I tried the colimari (sp?) Which was good and an ok portion for $5.
