I don't know what some of these reviewers are smoking. The food at this place is awesome. Everything is fresh and delicious. We went for dinner: I had the carnitas and my girlfriend had the beef tacos. We also had guacamole, which had the exact amount of lime tartness. There is NO Mexican restaurant in the area that matches the freshness and quality here. To those who are confused at whether its a "take out joint" or a restaurant: it's both. Get over it. read more

Returned for a second time this past weekend and had a great experience once again. The service was quick and understanding in dealing with a group of six that was celebrating a birthday. Once again, I can't help but recommend the margarita mixes that they have. Delicious. I had the Carne Asada, which was cooked perfectly. The chipotle mashers were so good I almost wanted to ask for an extra side of only them. I tried a piece of the beer braised beef short ribs. They were really tasty and made end up being the next dish I try here. I can't help but continue to heap praise on my favorite restaurant in Media. read more

We had not been here before going tonight, but had heard decent things about it. The waitress was nice and brought us chips and drinks quickly. We shared two appetizers and one entree for the two of us and it was a good amount of food. The chorizo queso was to die for (I am now going to crave this). However, the rest of the food, while good, seemed underseasoned. The ceviche was definitely underseasoned and the fajitas we shared were as well. They hit us with a $2.95 share fee without mentioning it or asking, which was a little annoying. The salsas were really bland (I make a much better roasted vegetable one with serious jalapenos) and the mild one just tasted like ketchup. Atmosphere fine--little tight on space (not many tables) but didn't feel squished. Basically, a-okay but not something I would HAVE to return to regularly. read more

This place tries to make fancy Mexican food but fails. Not sure if anyone cooking there has ever had Mexican food, but the food has downfalls on just about every front. No flavor, everything doused in bad sauces, overcooked meat to the point you can't taste it, wrong type of rice, on and on. A couple friends and I dined at Dos Gringos on a Friday night out in Media. The interior is very small and cramped and the prices were very high for the quality of food we received. My entree was bland and soggy and my friends had similar feelings about their choices. There are many other choices of restaurants in Media and I can't see us going here again anytime soon! However, the staff was nice, albeit we didn't really have many requests . Also, it is a BYOB (which we didn't take advantage of), but we heard that Diego's down the street has a full bar, so we will most likely try that next time we go to Media. read more

Sat outside on a gorgeous night, and although the sidewalk slopes down, we were pretty comfortable. (I heard someone who sat inside complaining that it was too cold inside, so we were happy with our choice.) Started with chips and 4 different kinds of salsa. I only tried 3, as one was described as hot and I'm not a huge fan of spicy foods! All 3 that I tried were delicious. They should bottle them and sell them! I'd definitely buy the chipotle salsa. We brought our own drinks: I had tequila to make margaritas and my husband brought his own beer. The margarita mix is sold by the pitcher and was $10. I got the traditional mix, and it was delicious. We ordered guacamole, which was advertised as "Best of the Main Line 2014," and it lived up to the standards -- absolutely delicious. We also had queso fundido, which was really good as well. We shared chicken enchiladas, (they charge a few dollars to share an entree, FYI) and although I only ate half of my share and took the rest home, they were really delicious! We shared the blueberry guava cobbler, which was almost too sweet but still very good. I wish it came with a scoop of ice cream, that's my only suggestion. All in all we will be back! I ate lunch here today and I'm glad I did. I, too, was waiting for this restaurant to open so I have another choice for lunch during my work week. With that said, I got a chicken burrito (to go) and I thought it was very good. And, mine was seasoned. So, maybe they changed things between their 2nd day open and today. I know they haven't been open very long, but I think that if they continue to impress, they will do very well. A few other people from my office went (on Monday) and said they liked their food, too. I gave it 5 out of 5 stars because of the food (quality and taste) and the service. I read the other reviews before writing this and I think that most of us are rating the restaurant by the food and service and not by whether it's a fancy, high-priced restaurant (re: Alex's "Ruth's Chris or Le Bec Fin" comment). Anyone can go to a "five star restaurant" but that doesn't mean they will have a five-star experience. For example, I went to Ruth's Chris twice (once in Philly and once in Louisville, KY). The first time my steak was awesome. But, the second time, my steak tasted like butter. Anyway, I only mentioned that so I don't get slammed by someone else for giving a 5 out of 5. I look forward to trying more things on their menu and I can't wait to try their dinner (I hope they offer dinner items to-go). read more

Only giving this place two stars because the food was good but the service did NOT match. Started the night off waiting at least 15 minutes for our server to rudely acknowledge us. Only asked for water to start but had to ask several people several times and it still took over 35 minutes JUST for water. That's ridiculous. Seemed as if our server was avoiding us the whole time. It's a small place so that's hard but she managed to do so. Asked a simple question about a dish however the server clearly had no interest in answering. Great chips, purchased some at Wolf's produce before. We tried to stop by here on other time but didn't realize they are closed on Sunday. Nice place, close to free parking in Media. Quaint, close together but comfortable seating, easy to make reservation online. Appetizers on specials menu very good. Main course special - plenty, well prepared, nicely presented, high marks from all 3 of us, with some going home. Handled disaster pretty well with storm and electricity going out well into our meal. Server opened window for comfort. All in all, a good experience, a little pricy but not unexpected. Update: I ate here again today and ordered a shrimp burrito. It was awesome! There was some melted cheese in it that was really good. I put some Pico de Gallo on it and it was perfect. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and cleaned (I HATE when I order shrimp at some places and they either don't clean it at all or it's only partially cleaned!) So, I was relieved to see it cleaned properly. I am definitely going to get that again. I'm bringing a friend there with me next week. Maybe I'll do another update. I've had Mexican food in countless restaurants in this area, other states and other countries, as well. I can tell you, this is authentic and not from a cookbook. Besides, I read in an article that one of the owners went to culinary school. So, I'm not sure I trust what Jim B says about the cookbook. I ate in - did not do take out - and my food was very fresh and very tasty. I also had a burrito and it did satisfy me without making me feel overstuffed like burritos from some of the local chain restaurants that fill their burritos with 75% rice and very little else. The ratio of rice to meat/veggie filling was perfect, as was the seasoning. Everything inside the tortilla was cooked perfectly. Also, I got a quesadilla (just plain cheese) and it was very good!! I really loved the cheese they used. I asked what kind it was and they said it was called Queso Chihuahua. It was SOOO yummy, very creamy and almost buttery...melt-in-your-mouth! Second, as I waited for my food, I paid attention to what people were saying around me. It was easy to hear what people were saying at the tables next to me and, being a foodie, when I hear other people talk about food it always catches my interest. Anyway, the people to my right were waiting for their food when I sat down (3 women, 2 men). When it came, they started eating and immediately started saying how great it was. One used the word "awesome" to describe their sandwich (sorry, I don't know which one they were eating). This made me even more excited for my food to arrive! The two women sitting to my left both got burritos. They discussed what they liked about the food...mostly they talked about how flavorful it was and what they were looking forward to ordering next time they eat there. The place was packed - I got there around 1:30pm on a Wednesday, so there was a heavy lunch crowd. I didn't try the fresh salsa bar or any of the baked goods at the counter because I didn't want to get in the way of the lines. I DID, however, bring home a Mexican Brownie, which I will try tomorrow and report back. Overall, I really enjoyed myself. The food was great, everyone was friendly, there were sufficient food choices (yes, also for those who are vegetarian and who prefer fish/shrimp...I'm going to try shrimp tacos next), and the place looked clean and cheerful. I have not eaten a lot of food on the menu, I usually stick to basic food. I just got the steak tacos. They were really good. That was not the most impressive part though. In this fast casual place you order inside, I had a dog with me. Wasn't sure what to do because I've never been there before. As I debated, a bus boy was outside and offered to get me a menu and bring it outside. Then when I ordered my tacos and an extra side of steak for the dog, the people at the counter were more than accommodating. Very courteous and friendly. Offered to bring me my food outside, put the extra side of meat in a special bowl for the dog and also wanted to bring a bowl of water for the dog outside as well!! My GF and I ate here twice now. Its ok at best and pricey for dinner. The wait for the waitress was way too long. We got the scallop appetizer and was 9 dollars for three small Scallops. I wasn't impressed. We split a steaks and potatoes dish was was good but small portions for 17.95. They charged me 2.95 to hand me another dish, it wasn't even split up on the plate. The place is way over priced and portions way to small. Just go there and bring your wine or drinks eat the chips people watch and then eat across the street at Arianos' much better food. read more

Came prime time on a Saturday night as a party of 5 and still got seated right away. That should've been a hint that it's not an exceptionally popular place, but we actually had a great experience! Got 4 different dishes: the chicken mole was wonderful, especially the calabaza (which tastes like sweet potatoes). Veggie Enchiladas were on point with a delicious sauce. Fajitas were average, and the refried beans looked pretty gross, but the jicama slaw was awesome. I really love Dos Gringos in Media. The menu is inventive and always delicious. I opt for the specials as I know a lot of thought and planning went into them, however, the main menu is just as creative. I highly recommend the tamales, flautas, empanadas and anything "carnitas". The staff is friendly and helpful. It's a small/intimate place but very welcoming. Dos Gringos has a "come as you are" type of atmosphere and I come back often. The space is small, but so colorful and cute! The food is a bit pricy, but off the charts delicious and worth every last cent, even down to the tortilla chips and quacamole! Dos Gringos is the best Mexican food I've had in the Delco area, and trust me I'm a Mexican-food-junkie, so I've tried a lot of them. I'm looking forward to coming back. Tried this place on a Saturday around 1:30 in the afternoon. I started with the Chips & Guacamole. The Chips were warm and the Guacamole was fresh. I made great use of their Salsa bar (there were 5 different salsas available!) and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I then proceeded to try their Tortilla Soup. I found it to be flavorful and filling. While I was waiting for my Cemita, the owners sent out a sample of their chicken wings in adobo sauce to everyone in the establishment at the time (Nice Touch!). At first glance, I thought that my Cemita looked like a hamburger, but after I took a bite I realized that this wasn't a hamburger at all--instead it was a festival of flavors and textures nestled between a pillow-soft bun. The Chorizo had great flavor with a little bit of kick. I will definitely be back. Can't wait to see their dinner menu & come in with a bottle of Tequila (the staff indicated that Dinner service will be "BYOT") to try their house-made Margarita mixes. read more

I really want to give this place a better score-- I mean, the atmosphere is nice, the BYOT is great, and the food wasn't bad-- but if people ask me how Dos Gringos Mexican Kitchen is, the first thing I'll probably comment on is the service...because it was TERRIBLE. So my family and I chose Dos Gringos on a whim-- we were walking through Media at around dinner time and it looked busy enough to be good, but not too busy to give us a long wait. Poor choice. I'll get right to it: after being seated outside and given a basket of chips by a bus boy who told us that someone would be with us shortly, we were ignored by two different waitresses who walked by our table multiple times. When my dad tried signaling to one of them to get some service, she paused, looked at our table, then walked across the street to another restaurant to presumably order her own dinner (which we should have taken as a sign right there). No less than fifteen minutes later, I finally got up and walked into the restaurant and asked if we would be seated. The man at the counter apologized and sent a waitress out after me, who greeted my family with a cold "What can I get you." Her attitude continued throughout the time we spent there, and she even forgot to bring us silverware or the check, which we had to ask the poor bus boy for (we should have just left). But as for the food, between the four of us we tried the tilapia and rice, a chicken empanada, a chicken and bean enchilada, and the surf and turf fajitas. The first three were good (I really enjoyed the tilapia, which wasn't too salty or greasy and gave me plenty of leftovers for later), but the fajita plate was rather bland and lacking for the price. This could be a good place to grab an empanada and hang out with your bottle of tequila on a Friday or Saturday night, but the service just ruined it. I hate giving poor scores, but this one is deserved. read more
