Dos Toros, welcome to Long Island! I love these New York City hot spots are now moving to Long Island. The Dos Toros Taqueria standout for me are their chips. Their chips are a thicker, quality chip compared to the other chains. What I didn't notice was a salsa bar. Are they hiding the salsa? Is it free? Is there an upcharge to ask for chips AND salsa? I've been here twice, both of my orders have been carne asada, a bowl for the first time and my second visit was a carne asada burrito. The steak was very fresh and plentiful. Total fan of Dos Toros Taqueria! I must point out, if you download their app? You can get discounts like on National Burrito Day I recieved $5 off my big boi burrito. Oh, this place has potential--like, "Chipotle, beware" kind of potential--if they could just get their act together. First on the to-do list? Hire actual employees, not this crew of high schoolers who seem more invested in swapping weave tips than providing service to paying customers. The three girls behind the counter were so deep into beauty tutorials that the poor customer in front of me had to repeat their toppings, like, three times. Priorities, right? Hire a team leader and a manager. Someone who has an interest in running the restaurant. I placed my order online, and they were still working on it when I arrived. Then I spotted this massive burrito sitting on the counter, and my eyes lit up like a little kid at a candy store. I politely asked if that masterpiece was mine. Her response? A snarky "No," followed by the ever-professional teeth-sucking routine. Apparently, my simple question was a direct assault on her tortilla-wrapping prowess. Spoiler alert: it was my burrito, but the tortilla had ripped, and I guess my curiosity bruised her fragile ego as that's what she thought I had inquired about meanwhile I hadn't even noticed it was ripped. Then begrudgingly she walks away to get a new tortilla. Who knew burrito-making was such an emotional rollercoaster? *shrugs* The excitement? Poof! gone. First bite? Ice cold. The meat? Tasted like it was cooked before the sun even came up, not exactly what you'd call "fresh." But hey, the restaurant looks great! It's comfy, and the disposable cutlery and takeaway packaging, wow they clearly splurged on that. Now if they could put the same care into hiring people who actually care or at least into keeping the food hot they might have a shot at attracting actual customers. We commented on this and just got some snarky response from the girl behind the counter. Didn't appreciate the attitude on top of the tiny portions. Told our kid no more dos toros from now on. Zero customer service. Zero stars. Customer service at Dos Toros in New Hyde Park is abysmal, and staff has been telling customers, "We are not cooperating with any schools, today or any other day." Prior to driving there, I called twice to confirm that they would be giving a percentage of their profits to a local school that I received a flyer from, and was shocked both times to hear, "No." The third time I called back, another employee responded, "Let me check." When he returned, he responded, "Yes. Today. We do." I calmly explained to him that the other employees need to understand that a portion of the profits will be given to a local school, as I had received a flyer and was headed over there to support the school. I was stunned to hear this employee rudely respond, "Don't yell at ME!" before hanging up the phone. There is no way I am frequenting this establishment, and I hope the local school chooses better dining options next time. read more

Welcome to Long Island, Dos Toros! This business just had their grand opening on January 19th, 2023. They are the first Long Island location to open in New Hyde Park. Restaurant is very spacious and clean! Plenty of seating available and decorated in an outdoorsy theme. They also have 2 food counters. Plenty of parking available as well, since it's located in the New Hyde Park shopping center. The line was a bit long, but moved up rather quickly. My mom and I both ordered the carne asada bowls for ourselves and picked our own ingredients. It's essentially set up like Chipotle, but better quality ingredients. All of the ingredients tasted so fresh! We also got chips and guac on the side. Chips are standard, way better than Chipotle's in my opinion. They also carry Jarritos Mexican soft drinks, and we opted for pineapple. I'd say the taste was pleasant. Food is definitely on the pricier end, but you are paying for quality. Their protein options are rather limited compared to places like Hot Peppers (they only have one cooking style of steak and chicken) but it's tasty. I recommend you give it a try. read more

This is supposed to be a DT Quesadilla. What on gods earth is this? First off customer service was absolutely terrible. I took it she was having a bad day ok fine everyone does. Then I ordered a CHEESE quesadilla. She proceeds to put one slice of cheese in it. I figured okay they must do it differently than chipotle, fine. Then she takes it off and asks if i want anything on it and i said um cheese? After a tiny cup filled with shredded cheese was put on i asked to put guacamole on it because i mean really? Came into this place 2/26 around 430..I should've known this place was gonna suck when I went in and it was empty..I ordered my food got a steak burrito bowl and to be honest the steak was hard and chewy..I tasted more beans then anything..my wife got a chicken bowl and it was mostly rice..40 dollars for two bowls with barely anything in them..you're better off going to Chipotle..plus almost all the tables were sticky no matter how much you wiped it down..I don't recommend read more

First time trying this place and really enjoyed my burrito bowl. The portion was definitely smaller than chipotle and guac shop but it was delicious. I would def come again but if I'm looking to save half the bowl or hungry for a bigger meal, I'd probably go to one of the other spots. read more

This place is spotless. I was jazzed to find a new Mexican spot in the area. There's plenty of seating inside also. That aside, it wasn't the experience I was hoping for. The counter seemed a bit confused. Think an upscale Chipotle process where you let them know what you want and then go step by step adding ingredients. Problem was they were using half the counter at dinner time so everyone was clustered in the same area. Worse still -- most of the protein containers were essentially empty leaving traces of steak or chicken or pork. The pork was most full of all the options but it was a bit dry and didn't have much flavor. The chicken and steak container's didn't have enough for a single burrito. The chips and salsa were ok but the salsa is in a tiny cup that you can't fit a chip into and neither is it sufficient to use with a small bag of chips. The pico de gallo looked fresh but it didn't have much flavor either. We were a party of four so having things near empty at 7PM was strange and limiting. Containers were great with tightly affixed lids. Beverages are not fountain based so you get cans. Parking is abundant since you're in a small mall lot with Smashburger nearby. I might give them another shot but lacking flavor in a Mexican place is not easy to overcome. Too many alternatives to pick from. read more

I came here to pick up lunch for my coworkers and I because were excited something new was opening in the area. They had it cutely decorated and the staff seemed so happy to be there. We often order from Dos Toros for lunch, however this will be the last time. The order came missing all sides, including items we paid extra for. When we called to let them know, the person who answered was extremely nasty and not helpful at all. They did say they would send the missing items, but at this point our lunch hour was over and they still haven't showed up. Not a way to build your business! read more

We ordered from the catering menu for 15 guests and what a disappointment. Talk about cheaping out on the rice, beans and steak. I had to order more food. The embarrassment we experienced after opening up the food was something else. I suggest not catering from here for a party. Avoid the embarrassment and save your money. Fourth time there in 2 weeks, the place, the food, the vibe is all amazing!!! Except tonight was beyond awesome. The food was not only fresh but the service by Daniella and Amy was simply off the charts! I've been in the food business for 30 years. Restaurants, Deli's, Nightclubs. These two young ladies, were kind, observant, caring and friendly. We have an a son with special needs and I have a bad knee. Daniella went out of her way to help me bring the food to our table! Amy was so helpful when she was reviewing our food selections! Don't lose these two bright stars. Again this franchise is special and the food is off the chain. Avoid at all costs until the staff and management get more organized! We came here on a Saturday evening and the service was SO SO SO slow. There were apparently 4 people helping with just 1 order?? The assembly line is terrible. They didn't even make sure the toppings in the containers were full so that took additional time between them going back and forth to refill them. And when we paid with cash, they only had nickels left so we ended up with a bunch of nickels for 79 cents in change... I built my own burrito bowl and the chicken tasted bland and was lacking flavor. While the bowl was relatively full, I was disappointed with how lackluster it was. There was barely any sauce and all the ingredients were just very plain. Now imagine how long it took for our 4 orders in addition to waiting for the people ahead of us considering the pace of the assembly line. Holy crap! Everyone here is so angry. Every customer looks pissed off. I asked for a plastic knife. We don't have one. Then I asked them to cut the burrito in half. They said we can't do that. The people here are crazy slow. Not just in moving. Five or six people just clustered together looking confused, which I get for a new store, but there should probably be some seasoned leadership too. Ambiance is ok physically but the tons of people just randomly sitting everywhere waiting for food and sense of confusion creates a weird awkwardness that is unappealing. Food is ok. No better than a chipotle but it's the service that is god awful. Not great for your first foray into Long Island. Hip music does not a good experience make. I go to DT in the city and I was expecting more. This experience is just bad. Food is aight what you would expect from a DT. Hopefully kinks are ironed out if I ever come back. I've been to and DoorDashed Dos Toros and never had a problem before. The food is usually delicious. I was super excited to see that there was one opening up closer to me in New Hyde Park. I ordered off DoorDash, food was confirmed right away and delivered within 15 mins. So far so good. I open the bag, and noticed the food was cold. Ok, I could work with that. Good thing the office I was working out of today has a microwave. Open up the lid and noticed right away there was 0 guac which I confirmed was in my order by the receipt. There was 0 mole sauce, also on the receipt, and there was no mild smoky sauce. It was a dry bowl. I'm not sure where the miscommunication happened, but it's a bit concerning that they missed not 1, but 3 different sauces. DoorDash gave me credit for the missing guac and mole, and I am here eating a dry bowl of carne asada, which was fairly tasty. Maybe I'll try again in the future when they work out their kinks, but definitely disappointed today. read more

I was SO excited when this opened up in NHP. I've been going to Dos Toros in NYC for years. I used to live on the upper East side, the location of one of their first NY restaurants. I will say, when they expanded in the city, I felt the quality went down. Portions were smaller, food seemed rushed to make etc. But this location is like the good old days- the pricing is good for the portions you are getting and everything is fresh and delicious. Staff is also super friendly. The verde sauce is my favorite. It is so delicious. I also love love love their quesadillas. Get one and you will not be disappointed. I'm also a fan of their bowls. Their guac is also really good. This place is a million times better than Chipotle, and more affordable. I literally could eat here every day. read more

I'm really glad they came to New Hyde Park! I went last year when it first opened and they definitely needed to straighten out some kinks. And they absolutely have. Went twice in the last couple of weeks and we've been loving their tacos. Definitely not skimpy portions as past reviewers noted about some items. It's not cheap but what is in this town?! The staff were all so nice and explained what everything was and how it works. First off for $15 bucks I got a cold burrito the wrap and chicken was cold , the employee serving me didn't listen and slap on cold peppers and onions I didn't ask for . When I ask for cheese I get a square piece of Kraft American cheese . I don't even get a side of chips . Our pickup order wasn't ready for 10 minutes after stated time, 2 of 3 dishes were missing ingredients, the food was over salted. Won't be be running back anytime soon. Overall the food was okay, wasn't as tasty. Definitely fresh just lacked flavor. But what gives my review a strong 4 is the outstanding customer service from Scotty and his team. He was so patient as my best friend and I decided on what to order, had great suggestions and handled our food with care. I wasn't crazy about the queso on the nachos, so he was kind enough to redo the nachos with the melted cheese which was much better with the food.
