To be fair, the waitress did say that the food would take longer because of reservations (we walked in), but we at least expected the restaurant to fill up more than 1/3. Lionel & Ana continue to be the most gracious, hardworking hosts & owners. I came during peak dinner time & I could tell they care deeply about every guest that walks through their doors. We looked for months for the perfect spot for a rehearsal dinner for our son and his beautiful fiance and without a doubt, we found it. I can not say enough about Double Barrel and how special and lovely they made such an important event for our families. The food was spectacular and the venue is simply the perfect combination rustic, yet elegant Tuscan charm. The owners made every step up to the event easy and stress-free and the staff could not have been more attentive and professional. We tried Double Barrel for the first time on Saturday. Had a reservation and seated right away. We were a party of four. Ordered our drinks and 3 apps. Dates wrapped in Bacon, Coconut Prawns & roasted Brussel sprouts. All was fresh, local and tasty. We selected, Spaghetti Puttanesca, Salmon Picatta, Lasagna Bolognese & Chicken Marsala. Beautiful ambiance and a great selection of wine. But the food was quite underwhelming. We had the coconut prawns, which weren't bad. For the main course, we had the Piccata with Salmon and the Hungarian Beef Stroganoff. The salmon was extremely salty and topped with a ton of salted capers. Wrong on many levels. The spaghetti, on the other hand, had no flavor at all. The stroganoff seemed to be overcooked with very chewy beef pieces. All in all, go there for the wine and ditch the overpriced food. read more

Sometimes, you find the most amazing restaurants in unexpected places. So it was when we took advantage of a sparkling Seattle day to walk around the historic area of the town of Snohomish. The "historical downtown" as the signs proclaim it has the typical selection of boutique and antique shops, a bakery and several restaurants. While exploring the town, I commented that I'd like to have lunch some place where the men didn't wear their baseball caps backward and drop the "F" bomb every other sentence. My wife agreed, but suggested that might be hard to find given the number of pubs and sports bars we'd already passed. As lunch time grew nearer, we spotted the Double Barrel Wine Bar about a half block off the main street on Avenue A. We perused the menu in the window and decided a couple of their small plates could be just the thing. Popping in, we noticed the smooth jazz playing on the sound system. Coupled with the warm, understated atmosphere, we immediately felt at home. We were greeted warmly by Carlene, who invited us to sit wherever we pleased and who came back immediately with water, place settings and menus. It didn't take long to decide on the bleu cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, baked brie, and two glasses of Sanvito Montepulciano A'Abruzzo. The rich, luscious dates were complemented perfectly by the Montepulciano, which was medium fullness with very little tannin. The brie, served with two types of crackers, went equally well. For dessert, our server suggested a chocolate brownie infused with pomegranate and served with a sliced strawberry. It was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. To top things off, she brought us tastings of what she called a "chocolate Port," which she explained is a port made to go well with chocolate, not one with chocolate notes of its own. I had an epic 60th birthday bash at the Double Barrel. I am thrilled to have found out about this place from a friend, as it was the perfect venue. Lionel and Ana were so accommodating in making sure the party was a success, getting it set up ahead of time to accommodate the band I had coming to play as well as making sure there was room to dance. Lionel even had a nice disco light to further set the dancing mood. I chose the appetizer option for my guests, and the food was absolutely delicious. The bar had plenty of options for everyone, too. Brought friends here this weekend as in the past, this had been a great place with fantastic food along with an exceptional wine list. The ambiance is unchanged and service was fine but the menu and our meals were quite a fall from grace. The menu has been reduced by more than half for dinner selections. The chicken marsala was bland served with flavorless spaghetti noodles...the pesto dish ordered by my friend also unremarkable...she felt like the sauce came from a jar. Double Barrel is my favorite place in Snohomish for a girls night out! A trio of us reunited at Double Barrel and had a wonderful experience. We made reservations and ordered a couple bottles of wine right away (ask for Forgeron Cellars' '18 Merlot...it's amazing and great price point!). We almost always go nutso on the appetizer menu everywhere and by the end of the night we realized we had tried *almost* everything offered...and it's an extensive appetizer list. If bacon wrapped dates are your jam, you will want to try an order (or two...let's be honest!) here. They are plated with a walnut purée that's takes this delicious dish to the next level no question! Other favorites included the Brussels Sprouts, Smoked Salmon Carpaccio and the Antipasto Rustico (highly recommend for garlic lovers and non-veggie lovers...the flavors are incredible and really make this dish stand out. One of my fave highlights of dining out with these specific ladies is we always seem to get an extra special experience. This time we chatted extensively with Anna (current owner) and Carline (former owner) and it was just wonderful to hear their stories! Insider tidbit: Carline made the awesome serving boards from wine barrels. We told her she should sell them in store as there would definitely be a market for them! I highly recommend Double Barrel to any food and wine lover for it's fantastic food, inviting atmosphere, and top-notch service! Checked very closely with their menu selected 3 items because no mention of pork or dairy cheese (for my husband's alkergy). The duck fries came with Parmesan cheese. "Oh sorry " waitress says I'll have remade. Then after eating the brussel sprouts my sister says oh my God I taste bacon! The chef will not come to table, makes my husband go to the bar to talk to him. Oh it's just a typo. I spent the next week deathly ill. It is not a typo it is a valagrant omission! Lovely little spot right off 1st street up one of the side streets, had combo of table seating, lounge seating and a few bar height tables. They have a good size menu, with lots of small plates to share and some delicious signature entrees that had a protein choice for everyone pallet. I had a chicken marsala, duck fries, my friend had the sirloin steak and my other friend does what he always does at a new restaurant he's never been too. He looks at the menu then proceeds yo ask the server what thei favorites are and ask them to surprise him with an appetizer and entree. Snohomish needs some more quality dining options, and less barlike places to hang out. In comes Double Barrel Wine Bar & Lounge! While they have just opened and are only serving small plates, they have a chef on staff and are reported to be planning on serving full meals. The husband and I stopped in on a Friday evening, parking is a pain, it's located inside the old VFW on Ave A between 1st and 2nd, but anything downtown, especially on a Friday eve, is expected to be difficult to get to. The building it's in is rad, having lived in Europe, it gave me that classy European pub vibe when we walked in. Especially when I saw the comfortable looking leather couches in front of a fireplace. My feelings of nostalgia came to a halt when I saw the, no doubt expensive, but cafeteria like low tops and matching chairs they filled the place with. This definitely ruined the ambiance, and made for a less comfortable, intimate evening. Having a local craftsman make some long chunky wooden tables would have put them over the top and really made it perfect. Service was friendly, and we were greeted right away, very casually, as our waitress sat herself right down at our table to tell us about their wine flights and small plates. We went for a $15 wine flight, they focus on local wines that are lesser known / publicized, which I think is pretty cool. We enjoyed them all. For food we chose the $18 charcuterie, the $11 bacon wrapped dates, and the $14 pork belly sliders. The charcuterie was a tremendous value at $18, it came with a ton of meat and cheese. The water crackers were appropriate, but the other crackers they provided were over seasoned and too overpowering for this plate. We would have liked an explanation of the meats and cheeses we were provided, and the plate would have benefit from a sweet item such as local honey or jam. The bacon wrapped dates were fabulous, nothing more to say here, I will definitely get them again. The pork belly sliders I am on the fence about. The pork was good, well-seasoned / marinated Korean style. The pickle, which I expect was house made, had gone mushy so it wasn't very pleasant. The weird flat bread things they used for the bun, tasted commercial and weren't my jam. These would be amazing with a bao bun and a crunchy pickled veg. Something we found to be missing is, there wasn't any beer on tap, one or two taps would be awesome, but they do have bottles. At the moment their bottle selection isn't anything we'd drink, it was Stella, Blue Moon and Coors Light. In a beer-centric town, like Snohomish has become, you really need to have craft beer, preferably on tap. They did say they plan on having craft from local breweries that bottle, so that is something to look forward to. Having just opened, I'd say they're on the right track! We will definitely be back, at the minimum for a couple glasses of wine and the charcuterie. Next time I hope to sit by the fire. read more
