Ok, well we went here on Saturday night, 11/8. Was just a 3 of us, me, a coworker and my boyfriend. It got busier and busier after our arrival, we got there around 9:30. From what I recall, there are 2 sides to the place, one is more country and the other iis more hip-hop. Mechanical Bull? Check. Drunk Girls in Cowboy Boots Spilling Drinks all over me every 5 minutes? Check. Coors Lite on tap? NO check. It was pretty entertaining, I don't love Country music but the songs selected were upbeat, the bartenders that hopped up on the bar to do their little dances were pretty good, and not too over the top slutty. Just a enough slutty cowgirl happening. I might go back, probably with a bigger group, and also I would not party so hard the night before and during the day before going. I was really exhausted when we were there, and in addition to a few beers, I had 4 red bulls, which is totally out of character for me. So, what I am saying is that I had fun, even though I was probably hung over from day drinking. It's a good place for bachelorette parties to stop in to, the crowd is more 20's than 30's I think. read more

Came here with the promise of no cover and a free shot...and that's EXACTLY what I got!! I felt like I was in Dallas, TX because all the staff there were clad in cowboy boots and cowboy hats. The bartendresses were really nice and made good drinks. The music kept the mood lively and I think they had a mechanical bull in another section of the bar! I had a great time there...so the next time I'm in SD I'm definitely making a stop here for some hee-haws and yipee's. read more

I'm a big country fan and knew I had to check this place out. So when my friends from out of town came to visit and we went out for the night, we made our way to DD! As we walked down the street we got free entry cards to DD's. SCORE! When we got into the place we grabbed a drink at the bar downstairs. The bartender was really nice and, when we told her we were doing a late birthday presentation, she gave us cards for a free ride on the bull! We grabbed another drink and went upstairs to chill out for a bit and watch the girls slap leather and dance a bit. When we went to the room with the bull it was pretty crowded. Some people are dancing, others are just beings doors in the middle of the walkway, but overall it's bearable. We had a lot of fun there and I intended on going back. read more

Maybe it's just because our visit to this joint was juxtaposed next to our evening at Sway (see my other review), but Double Deuce is A-OK in my book. First off- cover charge? 5 chicks, 1 dude... should we have to pay? Errrr, no. Luckily the door people were chill and waived the fee. Two of our friends decided to ride the bull- & staff were friendly and courteous. Although it did look like they took secret pleasure in "jiggling" the bull for the female riders, especially those who were falling out of their shirt PRIOR to even getting on the bull. Only complaint from my female friends in attendance- more scantily clad males (as opposed to females)! As one of them put it "More equal opportunity." Drinks here are also reasonably priced. Went here after Moonshine Flats was closed for a private event. Wanted to go country for the evening with a group of work peeps so the Double Deuce is where we ended up. We were the first ones there and there were about 17 of us. The bartender was great, fast, and personable. The side of the bar that had the bull riding was closed but we still hung out at the other smaller bar and had a good time. Overall it was good, we didn't stay past 9pm so I do not know how busy it gets in the later hours. read more

There are two levels split in half down the middle. The west side has mostly country and some rock. It's also where the go-go dancers are usually at. The east side has the mechanical bull and plays a mix of top 40, dance, country, and hip-hop. Upstaris is air-conditioned and so does not get that hot. I spend most of my time on the east side. The focal point is the bull riding. There is also a small dance floor that is elevated but there are no stairs to it. You have to be athletic enough to hoist yourself up there. Cover can be free or up to $10. Like most clubs, there are usually way more men than women there. Also like many clubs, they play enough hip-hop to irritate me.They also play songs like Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar on Me. I don't care for old, over-played songs. However, the music is still good, overall. Watching the bull-riding and dancing are always entertaining. I give it four stars for when the cover is $5 or free. read more

I went here two years ago, for my best friends bachelorette party. We all had so much fun and we stayed until closing. Perhaps it was the excitement of the event, but we all had such a great time and it has been very hard to recreate this experience anywhere else. It might be because I was with a great group of people or because I was bought quite a few drinks that night BUT for someone who is the farthest from a fan of Country music as one can be I had a major blast! It's like any other club except 2 rooms that play different types of music, and oh yeah a mechanical bull where you can see drunk fools get destroyed. The dancing was great and the atmosphere was pumped up! If you like getting buck wild I suggest this place for you, though they should add a woman's bathroom because that line is WAY too long! read more

Had such a blast here on a random night! We got lucky and came on a night where it was $5 Jack all night. The bartender was very generous with his pours, and such a cool guy! The music started off country but then turned into an eclectic mix from Ginuwine Pony to the Cha Cha slide. Watching people attempt to conquer the mechanical bull was hilarious. I stumbled in here on the Fourth of July while waiting for the list at the Ivy to open. What first attracted us in was the name. In Miami, there was a dive bar on South Beach called Mac's Club Deuce. It was one of our favorite places to go play pool and get cheap tequila shots. My husband has several t-shirts from there. We were happy to see that SD now has it's own Deuce bar. We tend to call it the douche, but that doesn't reflect how we feel about either establishment. This bar had just opened so it was empty. It's a relatively large space with a "dance club" in one part and a country type bar in the other. We went into the bar to have a few drinks. The bartender was so nice, she asked us what we did for the 4th holiday and chatted with us for a while. It wasn't busy so it was nice to get to talk to the employees. They were playing awesome rock and roll music and had the videos broadcasting on all of their HD tvs (which is a lot). It was fun to watch the Rolling Stones running around on stage back in the day. I asked if during football season they will be playing games, she said yes, the owners are huge football fans and they intend to play games on Sundays. I will definitely be back! read more

YEEEE HAW! im in a country bar.. sorta. this place is silly, but fun... for someone who is not into the whole country deal, this place is a fine balance. they play country music [i recognized garth brooks and faith hills husband]. and guests wear country hats and boot. DD's country girl dancers strut their stuff with choreographed boot scootin numbers, wearing daisy dukes and boots. and its cute and it all works... BUT... if you do not want the country music ambiance, head over to the next room and ride their mechanical bull. in that room, the typical hip hop pop stuff plays on. drinks are priced well for downtown, and its casual and relaxed. nice joint when you have a mixed group who do the country thing.. and those who do not. read more

Having worked in the bar industry for over 10 years. I was disappointed on so many levels. The bartender service. The prices. The entertainment. The cover charge. And mostly the clientele. I walked into a bar that looked like a bunch of teeny boppers. People that didn't look of age to be serving alcohol or even partying there. I was hounded by the bouncer and door girl to hand me the $10 cover that I thought was ridiculous to be paying at 1 am, seeing as the bar closed at 2 am. Whatever, all my friends were headed in, and so I was going where the birthday party was going. It was full of military d-bags, and girls dressed scandalously. People dancing on the bar, mini stages, and riding the mechanical bull. The DJ was constantly on the mic. I found my way upstairs.... the only upside- GREAT PEOPLE WATCHING! ha! You could pretty much oversee the entire venue from upstairs. My first round of drinks was from the main bar on the ground level. I ordered a Miller Lite and 3 shots of Rumpleminz. It was $34! It just didn't add up. This was no Las Vegas or Miami pricing, especially when I had just gone to a bar on 5th Ave, previously and ordered the same thing for about $25. I ordered another round at the bar upstairs, and it was cheaper. Almost like the prices weren't consistent, or perhaps the bartender upstairs was hooking me up, or the bartender downstairs was overcharging. Either way, felt like I was getting played on pricing. I will say besides the amazing people watching, there was a pretty fun boxing game that they had upstairs. Our group probably put $25 in the machine to see who could punch the hardest. Pretty entertaining. This is your place if you like to watch girls wannabe go-gos dancing and dressed scandalously... Guys that are d-bags, and a fan of mechanical bull-riding. Mechanical bull for $5. That's enough to make me a fan. The main room with the full bar plays country music (win!) and the room with the mechanical bull plays top 40 hits and current hits as well. So this is the second time in my life I've been to a country music club, the first being in the good ole IE. But this place is located right in Downtown SD. The club is split in two to play country in one, hip hop in the other. However, when I went, it was one side playing all country music and the other side playing country music with a hip hop song thrown in once every 4 country songs. I have to admit, I'm Asian and country jammin' just isn't my thing, but after a few drinks I was line dancing with the best of them! I don't even know if I got the steps right, but who cares when you're having a good time?!? I may/may not ever come back, but it was fun to be outside of my comfort zone for one night. read more

Several of my military friends were visiting and as many men do some of them trimmed their wallets down to 1 form of ID, cash and 1 credit card. Double Deuce not only rejected taking military IDs, but their employees weren't very polite about it. We quitely went somewhere else without a fuss. These friend of mine, fathers and career soldiers who are all 30+ and many of which have multiple bronze stars for heroism, shouldn't have been treated impolitely for only having carried a military ID. From my personal experience, this is a common form of ID if you are in the military to carry when you only choose 1 form and 99.99% of US establishments will take it (it is certainly more secure than many state IDs that they would have accepted). Take it or not, the rude attitude at the door was classless and innapropriate. I would appreciate it if people avoided this establishment. Best, Nick read more

Love the "check-in" offers for free dranks - one if you check in on Yelp, and another if you check in on facebook! You don't get to pick what they are (I think ours were some sort of watermelon shooter), but hey, beggars can't be choosers. With the country music, mechanical bull, and photobooth, it's definitely a hit. They also only play country in about half the bar, so if you're anti, you can typically find an escape. But why would you ever want to do that !? read more

This is an enjoyable place. It's actually kinda fun to watch the crazy-drunk people ride the bull. It's a big place too, so it's fun to walk around and check out the different areas. I'm not one for country music, but the music actually wasn't too bad, and there's different areas to escape to that play other music. Plus, they played Sublime which adds a star in my book! Patrick Swayze where are you? This bar is nothing more than the Martini Ranch with cowboy boots on. Yes the music is better, the crowd has cleaned up, but it's still the same place. Corn-fed mid western boys still wet behind the ears will love this place for it offers a rough shot of classic country with a splash of city ego. The cocktail servers play homage to the movie Road House with their similar costume. All they need now is a stage covered with broken glass and guys kicking each others asses over a pool table. It has a western vibe in terms of the name, but they play pop music there as well. This place is two stories, has a mechanical bull and a dance floor... oh and a "VIP" section. Based on my ONE visit - I found this place to have no air/ventilation, dirty, over priced drinks, overly crowded. Double deuce is allllright. I feel so out of place in a country/western themed place though. Anyway, I always do a discreet little Yelp check beforehand and discovered that upon check-in, you can get a free shot! YAY a free shot! The bartender put some red syrupy looking liquid in our free shots, and when I drank it, that's all I tasted. The rest of their Yelp drink specials were okay, but not strong in my opinion. Ok, not a dealbreaker. Walked to the adjoining room where the infamous mechanical bull was. It's pretty funny watching other people get on it and fail miserably. It's $5 per person, but they let you get back on once after you fall off, so that's nice of them. The music was very Top 40, with some old school classics thrown in (Michael Jackson, Journey). The crowd is a little on the older side - absolutely nothing wrong with that! - but the guys were creepy when I was there. I also saw a ton of people with some sort of dark face paint obscuring part of their face, so it made it even weirder when you see someone eyeing you/your friends up and down...no thanks! Double Deuce was decent for a night out in downtown, but not somewhere where I would be dying to go back asap. read more

When I'm downtown and not at a club like Stingaree, Ivy, Fluxx, etc., I am usually at Double Deuce. I love that they have two different downstairs/upstairs area with different atmosphere and music. Where you first enter is the more western/country area. To the right is another room with the mechanical bull ($5 to ride unless you have a ticket) with regular club music. The upstairs area has the VIP bar and bottle service. They have screens all around playing messages like happy birthdays or music videos. Oh and if you check in, you get a free shot. **GREAT PLACE FOR COUNTRY MUSIC FANS** I went here to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday night. It was AWESOME! There are two levels and two different rooms on each level. On the upper floor are places for you to sit & more of a lounge feel (with 2 mini bars in each room). Where as down stairs has the bull and the main bar. There is a bull you can ride in one room that people walking down the street can see you on. Tons of cowboys all around :) always good for the ladies. But you need to like country music or you probably wont be a fan of this place. Towards the end of the night they do change their music to more club music. Be prepared there is a cover charge (they have an ATM by the door for you to get cash out if you need)....I didn't pay for my cover but I think it was $10 or $15 to get in. read more

Deuce is cool. There are 2 main rooms, that host 3 different types of parties, the country room, and the club room for those people who like top 40 songs not country. The mechanical bull is fun, it costs money, but you will be allowed to get thrown off 3-4 times. That beast is tiring. Honestly I only go here because I know some people who work here, but in my opinion, people are what drive business. They are pretty busy in here on fri and sat nights, but its fun. Ok, it was my first time at a "country" bar. I'm glad this was the place to be the first! My good friend took me around for my birthday and this is where we ended up for most of the night. I loved that there were 2 bars upstairs in addition to the main one downstairs. There's 2 rooms, one seems mostly if not ALL country and the other side is pretty much everything else. Checked this place out on July 4th. Drinks were pricey, but it is Gaslamp territory. The mechanical bull is fun to watch for a while, but the place is just pretty forgettable. Seems like a tourist trap-- they even have pedicabs out front that prey on drunk people who think it might be fun to take a spin around the block until they realize its $20-40 a HEAD. A couple of the bartenders are pretty nice and helpful, though the guy upstairs couldn't seem to get a vodka tonic right. I did like how expansive the place is-- plenty of rooms to explore and pretty decent music. I definitely knocked one star due to the bouncers. They literally started telling people to leave like ten minutes after last call. read more

I've gone here every weekend for the 2 years I've lived downtown despite the overpriced drinks ($12 for a Jack and Coke) because the staff is friendly. Dave, who gives stamps on the corner, is cool AF, so is the door guy and the bartenders and basically all the staff. Love the free popcorn,too. Unfortunately I met the owner or manager or someone tonight and I'll never go back. Unfortunate that such a fun place is owned or managed by such an unfriendly person. read more

That being said, I'm originally from the South and I love me some country music so this bar is like my dream bar. Some friends and I went last night for her birthday and had an awesome time. $5 cover, but sometimes they have coupons on their facebook/twitter for free cover + a shot so if you're in to planning ahead check it out. Decent prices for beer/drinks and they usually have some specials going on. The dancers are so sweet and fun, my friend and I got up on their little stage and danced and they treated us to two free shots (read: really fruity probably no alcohol included) but still - it was fun! If you don't like country music, fair enough, this isn't your place. If you do, this will be your new favorite bar! read more

This is not the place for me. Macho dudes trying to hit on everything they see and pick fights with other guys. Been there 3 times and its always the same thing. The place has a great layout and feel but the people that go there are not that fun, easy going crowd that I prefer. On the plus side I was treated really well by management once voicing my opinion and I give them an A for follow thru and customer service. The crowd is no fault of theirs. read more

This place is just very poorly managed and does not treat people or there customers with respect. They employees are wonderful only a few. You do have some employees that do lack in respecting there paying customers. I have.
